Well it's nice that you gave me the magic device that could very well save my life, you're assuming that I can use "use magic device" to save my life
GM Snowheart
If a wand's spell is on your spell list, you can use it. You don't need UMD.
GM Snowheart
By the way, I've got you guys moving a little quickly through things in light of the desire to rescue Ilsa. While the book is written with days or weeks between some events, I'm seriously compressing things. So, if you notice some narrative inconsistencies (or improbabilities), that's why. Please just suspend disbelief. :-)
I'm trying to smooth it over as much as I can but am placing an emphasis on keeping things moving and having fun.
GM Snowheart
Hey all. I'll have a post up tonight. Work has been crazy (huge project came in Monday night with a due date of tomorrow). And, Given that you're going to be going into the building, I want to get descriptions right and also think about how Vancaskerkin responds to you. My apologies for the delay.
Quinlan
sorry for the confusion, Quinlan is fine where he is... I just thought only Brin and Ilsa went in and the rest of us were outside with Bash... so I was going off that assumption. I will try to keep up and react as appropriate in the future...
GM Snowheart
Sorry for the delay. I had a post I was working on for y'all when the forums crashed. I'll try again tonight or tomorrow.
But the guard did fail his save, so Varor (who hits) can either apply the damage from his attack to the guard who falls asleep or the one who is coming at him from the south.
Bashiel Eland
@Snow damn, thats a shame. I saw they were acting up earlier today when I tried to post for the other game I'm playing in.
GM Snowheart
All,
I've begun editing the Slides (via the Maps link) to incorporate handouts and images. This will put everything in one place rather than have them spread out across multiple links. The downside to this may be that eventually the Slides document becomes quite large and image intensive. If you notice that's the case, let me know and I'll come up with a different approach.
In the meantime, I thought this was both more convenient and maybe a little more attractive.
Bashiel Eland
Wow, the new visuals look sweet. They made some incredible art for this AP. The one with Castle Korvosa looks hella sinister.
Also, thanks for the legend on the map. Really helps to keep things straight.
GM Snowheart
Cookie looks up at him, No, No what I did was way different. I mean I didn't hand it out to people.... at least..[/I]
BWAHAHAHAAH!
GM Snowheart
Hey all. I'm going to have a weird couple days at work and am not sure what my posting schedule is going to be like. I'll try to catch up on anything each evening if I can't get to it during the day.
GM Snowheart
I'm not responding just yet because it's the weekend and folks' posting frequency tends to really trail off and I want to give everyone an opportunity to chime in. But, I'll aim to post a response this evening. If you'd like to chime in but won't have time to write whatever you think is appropriate, just holler in the Discussion thread and I'll wait.
GM Snowheart
Also, back when the campaign started, I recall someone had Grau (this NPC) in their backstory. I thought it was one of you but when I skimmed your backgrounds I didn't see it. It may have been a submission I wound up not being able to accept. But, if it is one of you, holler out because your PC will recognize him instantly.
And, on reflection, I'll also let Quinlan make an untrained Knowledge Local check to recognize him -- or, if Quin has the skill, with a +2 bonus.
Bashiel Eland
Yeah, Saturdays are usually my most busy day, since I run a non-PbP campaign in the evenings and try to do everything else I need to do during the day.
Seems like other people might have something similar going on.
GM Snowheart
Apropos of nothing whatsoever...y'all are still holding onto the codes docs from Gaidren and now Vancaskerkin, right?
Bashiel Eland
Bashiel has the code docs from Vancaskerkin, I think Ilsa still has the ones from Gaedren.
Quinlan
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Here's the original post... 600gp alive, half that dead per the post, plus she said we could keep anything we liberated like equipment and such.
GM Snowheart
I've got my F2F game today then a dinner guest is coming over so I probably won't be updating today.
Bashiel Eland
With the hint Quin just got, I've managed to work out what happened with Vancaskerkin. Shame its: A) all out of game knowledge, B) not possible for Bashiel to contribute anyhow since he's in time-out.
Bashiel Eland
Whoa, that seems really quick. I don't think I made more than 2 or 3 attack rolls for the entirety of level 2. Did we accidentally manage to resolve a bunch of encounters without fighting? Or did we skip something significant?
Also, I get the feeling that we might've missed a bunch of loot somewhere, because wow do I feel poor for level 3. Assuming we sell everything but Lamm's +1 dagger and the "key shaped" dagger (which are still reserved for Varor and Brin respectively), I still don't have enough for full plate. :<
GM Snowheart
Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, to be frank, but I'm following the leveling guide at the beginning of the chapter. I think this AP may be on the fast advancement track. In terms of loot and WBL.... lemme think about it. If folks could post here what their current total wealth is, it would be helpful.
PS, there are some not random "random encounter"-type scripted events, a few of which Ive thrown at you, but on the whole aren't very interesting and don't do much to advance the story.
Remember, the AP literally had you level up after your first series of fights at Gaedrens. I think it's just designed to move quick.

No complaints on leveling faster here! In fact, I'm leveled and ready to roll. I think I'm going to start having a lot of fun with this character. Also, I should stop and thank you for this great adventure...really fun so far, and I hope we can all keep it going.
Here's all my gear...I think the total value is 953 gp, including the 383 gp in coinage.
Combat Gear potion of cure light wounds (x2), potion of remove fear, acid flask (x3) Other Gear MW sap, spiked gauntlet (cold iron), dagger (cold iron), sling, bullets (10), studded leather armor, outfit (cold-weather), backpack, bandolier, bell, candle, chalk, charcoal, fishhook, string, flint and steel, parchment, sewing needle, signal whistle, oil (flask)(x3), tindertwig (x2), earplugs, MW perception tool, 383 gp
Quinlan
do we auto gain a harrow point for going up a level (like you would with hero points?)
edit:
also.. here is a list of my equipment:
Lamellar cuirass, spell component pouch, shortbow, 20 arrows, rapier, journal, ink/pens, rations x 5, backpack, belt pouches (2), clothing, silver dagger, alchemist fire x3, tobacco, pipe, soap, chalk, potion clw x2, 2 vials of acid, Zellara's Harrow deck, sap, thunderstone, tanglefoot bag, 142gp 9sp 3cp, 220gp 6sp 6cp...
I think everything but the two cure light potions and zellara's harrow deck are things he started with :\
Bashiel Eland
Bashiel's at 1396gp +/- 50 gp (based on buy prices and a quick calc of stuff. That number includes gold on hand).
We also have 4200gp (sell prices) worth of stuff sitting in the loot log, so about 700 gp per person (that includes the two reserved items though, so its only around 400gp/person excluding those).
Bashiel's total value of stuff might even be on the higher end for the party, since I picked up some of the stuff we looted (like that composite longbow @ Gaedrens) rather than buying it at full price.
@Quin: You seem on the lower end. Here are the times we gained gold so far (you may have missed to include the ~550 gp from our first set of loot sales):
Total liquid gold gains (per person):
- 100gp for bringing in Vancaskerkin
- 220.66gp in gold and jewels from All the World's Meat
- 31.43gp from Vancaskerkin + Pals
- 13 gp from NPCs in Gaedren's base
(Gold bar reward from queen is in the loot log, not included here)
Total: 365.09 gp
PLUS, we have profits from the first wave of loot sales (modified by what we claimed) which looked like this:
Brin: +405.75 gp
Bashiel: +232.75 gp
Kalem: +555.75 gp
Ilsa: +555.75 gp
Varor: -44.65 gp
Quinlan: +555.75 gp

Hmmm...I'm wondering if I missed any of the allocations.
I should have around 1070 gp just from what you listed (including 150 gp starting), and I've only got 953.
Bashiel Eland
Wait, I'm making this too complicated... Using the loot log I can see we had (on a per-person basis):
~150gp starting gold/equipment
~350gp in liquid gold gains
~500gp on average from the first big loot sale and distribution
~700gp of stuff still sitting in the loot log and waiting to be sold or claimed
~125gp per person of equity in our group wand of CLW
So effectively we're at about 1825 gp per person.
@Ilsa: You could check your purchases so far? It does strike me that you should have a bit more gold on hand unless you bought something expensive.

The only thing I've bought is a MW weapon, which I included in my calculation. I was on vacation for a bit and may have missed an allocation. I'll double-check things.

Yup. Now and forever always.
Bashiel Eland
@Kalem: You'll have to do some post archeology to check for yourself. As a baseline though for Kalem:
150gp+365.09gp+555.75gp = 1070.84 gp (the same thing Ilsa calculated).
Then you have to subtract out money you 'lost' by selling for half price any items you bought for full price (you lose 50% of the buy price of the item), subtract out any money you spent on services/bribes/whatever (Bashiel for example subtracts out the silvers given as tips to messengers he's hired), then add the extra value you may have gained by claiming and using items we looted instead of buying them for full price (I think there wasn't any of those in the first wave for Kalem).
@Snow: Thanks! My lucky 10 on the d10 roll doesn't go to waste!

Alright time to roll:
HP: 1d10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
For money all he bought was masterwork as an upgrade for his hammer. So...1070.84-300=770.84. If he had to sell his earthbreaker that is -25 for 695.84
Varor
I don't think this adventure path uses the fast-track I think it's just that the loot at the beginning for Curse of the Crimson Throne is a bit low, it'll catch back up when we start getting into combat encounters with more loot to loot. As for the level track, some Adventure Paths open with stuff like this, in which the majority of XP at the beginning is dealt by non-combat encounters, Giant Slayer's opens up with a murder investigation and does the same thing.
But the more important question is, why complain! It's a free level, don't question it.

Sorry about the hold up on the posts I will be posting tomorrow, I had a really bad allergic reaction. and was home sick for the last few days. and going back and forth to the doctor. on heavy meds but will be back to normal posting tomorrow.
Bashiel Eland
Sorry to hear it Brin, hope your recovery is quick from here on out.
------
On an unrelated note, here are the loot sales. Keep in mind that we're still holding on to:
Varor and Brin, let me know when you're ready to take your respective desired item (Lamm's dagger, Key shaped dagger respectively), or if you've chosen to let it be sold so that the gold value can be split up.
BTW, Do we just want to destroy the Shiver? Seems like a good in-character thing for some of us to do (I figure Bashiel, Ilsa, maybe Quin?), and its not a big gold-loss at this point for the rest of ya'll.
So, after this wave of sales, here are your gold gains:

So I had a huge fire drill come up at work last night and it's going through today. I'll try to get something posted today but might be a delay. My apologies.
