@Io You hear some grunting and shuffling around, but nothing right near the door. It sounds like a wolf, or multiple wolves..?
@Headsman It's a pair of Korvosan water warped doors, so they're not that sturdy. If you have Knowledge (architecture), Profession (woodworker), Craft (carpentry), etc, you can get an exact estimate of the hardness and hp of the door.
@The Albatross I think you need to take the dice roller on a date or something. After your third attempt (18 seconds/3 rounds), the lock yields itself to your skullduggery.

"Headsman" |

"The old man was always fond of mutts. Maybe he's got a few of those in there. Let's go."
Headsman takes point, leading the group into the building.

The Black Merlin |

The Merlin falls into the back of the formation with his companions. He tucks the pistol back into his belt and draws his club.
'This thing's not as effective, but it won't give up our position every time he uses it.'

Io Dorean |

As Headsman starts to open the door, Io grabs him frantically.
"Wait!" She whispers harshly, "Not yet. We don't know what's in there."
Io opens the door a crack, peering inside to ascertain what they would be fighting.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Corvus Cator |

@Storm - maybe now's a good time to get the map going? Mind putting a link to the map in the campaign info. If you put it in the short description, it will show up on all the pages.

Machaera Selanna |

Machaera braces herself for what the doors might reveal, her left hand holding on tightly to her pet rock while her right flexes its fingers in anticipation of the spells she might soon want to cast.
She acknowledges the Black Merlin's comment quietly but somewhat distractedly, most of her mind still on the possibilities of the spells she has prepared. "I expect things might get loud despite us," Machaera whispers ruefully, "but I don't mind drawing attention if necessary, especially if that lets the stealthier of us get into position."

Machaera Selanna |

While Io cautiously peeks inside, an idea crystallizes in Machaera's head, since she's thinking about spells. Knowing that not all of the group has brilliant night vision, she quickly recites a trivial incantation and gestures as if to brush off some dust from the shoulder of her armour, causing the entire shirt to glow brightly.
I guess it might be more useful to cast it on something a human is carrying, but then again I figured nothing screams "Aaaagh! Mage! Kill it quick!" like an active spell effect, so I thought maybe I wouldn't paint a target on anyone else. :)

Io Dorean |

"Woah! Bright!" Io blinks rapidly, trying to get her vision readjusted to the new light source. When her vision reorients, Io looks over at the elf, nods thoughtfully, and pulls a pair of stones out of her pocket. She places them in the air above her head, where they begin to spin around. One is barely visible in the night, but catches the glow of Machaera's shirt, and the other glows brightly.
She peers through the doors, but not apparently seeing anything, shakes her head mutters something under her breath, and kicks the door open, ready to attack anything on the other side.
Strength (For fun): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Initiative (may not be needed yet, but it saves time if it is): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Forgot my ioun stones.
Besides, what screams mage more than "unarmed human in little, light, or no armor?" Really, the light may as well be given to Io. It would be a nasty surprise to anyone expecting a squishy caster.

"Headsman" |

Ooo! Light me, light me! I want to be a target!
Headsman opts to take point, thankful for the provided lighting keeping his hands free. He draws his axe and keeps it ready to strike should need be.

Yanis Boulin |

Yanis places a hand on the shoulders of each Io and Huntsman, he allows a portion of his essence to infuse them. Smiling at the two, he motions them forward.
"I have warded you, your wounds are now mine, have no fear of being struck."
I can add 2 more people to my collective, allows me to manifest powers into you or transfer your wounds to myself."

stormcrow27 |

Each square on the map is five feet
Io bursts the door down with a swift kick of brawler awesomeness as the party sees the following: A single desk sits in the middle of this room, with a moldy chair pushed up against it. A small pile of ratty furs and straw is heaped under the desk. Two doors lead north, while another leads east and west.
Standing next to the chair are a pair of large, bristling wolves, with vile red eyes and standing 3 feet tall, snarl at you and say "Lambs to the slaughter..."
Behind them at the back of the room, appear a pair of wolflike humanoids with massive builds, wearing well crafted suits of chainmail and carrying greataxes and slings. They appear not to like you....
All of them move to attack!
Please roll inits
Init Wolf with 4 legs 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Init Wolf with 4 legs 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Init Wolf with 2 legs 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Init Wolf with 2 legs 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Besides, what screams mage more than "unarmed human in little, light, or no armor?" Really, the light may as well be given to Io. It would be a nasty surprise to anyone expecting a squishy caster.
A man in a gray robe pops into Io's mind and says Hey, I'm not squishy, I killed a balrog in free flight with a sword and 2 minutes of epic music!

Io Dorean |

What? Where did that thought come from? Besides, didn't the Balrog technically die from falling damage, and you died too? Also, what's a Balrog? Io thinks, not sure what tricks her mind is playing on her.
"Now this is more like it." Io grins as the wolf-men bear down on them, "But where did these guys come from? I've never seen them before."
Rolled initiative above. Got a 19.

Yanis Boulin |

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Yanis will hang back, spear drawn and leveled at the approaching wolves. Taking the whole room in and looking for a place to help out.

"Headsman" |

Given the roll I got, I'm going to go ahead and assume I'm going first. If not, I'll do another post when my turn comes.
No stranger to combat, Headsman immediately rushes forth, and strikes for the nearest wolf, his greataxe coming down and sideways.
Greataxe Power Attack vs. Flatfooted: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Damage: 1d12 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 3 = 21

Corvus Cator |

Init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Apparently The Albatross waits for the party to move in to cover the rear.

Machaera Selanna |

OK, I’ll keep Io and Headsman’s enthusiasm in mind when the cantrip is due to be refreshed. Those of us who are less in-your-face appreciate it!
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Just a few steps behind Headsman, Machaera takes the room in with a glance, her eyes narrowing at the wolf-creatures’ words. Far too much of this lamb business, she thinks, even as she tries to place what these bipedal wolves might be. Knowledge (arcana) (I guess?): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Almost casually, she clenches her free hand into a fist and swings it as if in a vicious backhand. Using telekinetic fist, targeting one of the bipedal critters for preference if she has a clear shot at one of them, or the nearest free beastie otherwise. Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Damage, if hits: 1d4 ⇒ 1

stormcrow27 |

Battle map in campaign information link.
Headsman's axe strikes at the wolf, but even with his reaction speed, the wolf barely dodges out of the way. Machaera can't seem to find any relation to magic that these bipedal wolves may be. Her telekinetic fist punches 1 of the bipedal wolves, but it appears to barely do any damage to their metal skin backed by tough hide.

The Black Merlin |

Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
oh shucky ducky, since I was at the rear of the formation I'll hold my action for now...
The Black Merlin watches as his companions pour into the now-open doorway. He prepares to gun down anyone coming into his field of vision or to follow his cohorts into the building.

Io Dorean |

Oh, the choices. So much many combat feats. What to choose....
Also, I threw up an icon of Io onto the map. We're in A4, right? Or A7?
Io clenches her fists, making a half-leap towards the nearest wolf, bringing her shield directly down at the canine's skull as she uses the momentum from her jump to put every ounce of effort into the blow, grasping the edge of her shield to put both hands into the attack.
Two-Handed Power Attack (v. Flatfooted?): 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 12

stormcrow27 |

A4. I was lazy last night and forgot to add in the monsters.
Wolves added, wolfy dudes (or dudettes, or potentially both). coming soon. Also @the Black Merlin you can shoot either bipedal wolf without any of those nasty precise shot shenanigans since no one is in melee with them at this time.
The wolf takes the strike and shakes it head from the blow.

Yanis Boulin |

Yanis online
Yanis will move in beside Io so that the wolves cannot tag team her, he keeps his spear levels and jabs at the wolf.
Spear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Corvus Cator |

I thought we went in through the doors from the loading dock?

Io Dorean |

That was an error; we were at the front doors during the whole "walk up to the front and knock" ordeal, but there was a miscommunication once the map came online.

The Black Merlin |

Hearing battle joined, The Black Merlin steps into the doorway amd draws his pistol. With a loud report and large puff of smoke he discharges the weapon at the biped on the left side if the room.
Pistol+point blank: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
The vigilante quickly reloads his weapon.

Io Dorean |

"What the-" Io recoils slightly, careful to not let her guard down,"That should have dropped him! What are these things? Please don't be werewolves, please don't be werewolves...." She racks her brain for anything that might help her here, trying to remember what the were, or if there were any legends about this sort of thing.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

stormcrow27 |

@Io, good to know that you're covering the entire basis, but strangely, none of your teaching or experience tells you anything about wolves with 4 legs that talk. The bipedal wolves, however, appear to be skinwalkers with half-orc blood that are also enhanced in some way beyond normal, but they aren't werewolves (well, as far as you can tell anyway)
Yanis' spear grazes off the quadrupedal wolf that Io hit, but he still takes the blow and keeps on standing. Black Merlin's gunshot hits the first bipedal wolf blows a chunk of fur and steel off the creature, but she simply smiles.
Quad Wolf - 16 hp
Quad Wolf 2 - no damage
Bipedal Wolf 1 -9 hp
Bipedal Wolf 2 no damage
Still need an init roll from the Albatross.
Bipedal Wolf 2-Moves up and will swing at Headsman. Headsman, Io and Yanis, roll attacks of opportunity.

This is the unit that applies to this scenario...

Io Dorean |

"What in... Just die, why won't you!" Io swings her shield as hard as she can at the wolf-man as it approaches, both hands propelling the edge straight at the skinwalker.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

"Headsman" |

I'm not sure I understand how that provoked an AoO. The wolf only entered my threatened area, no moved within or left it, no?

Corvus Cator |

Who is actually up and what turn order are we on? The Albatross has an init of an 11.
@11:
The Albatross fires his shortbow at the bipedal in the back.
shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
If they were unaware of Albatross before the shot:
+hidden strike: 1d8 ⇒ 4

stormcrow27 |

Grr, sorry I had that piece's movement in my mind wrong. Ignore the AOOs. Albatross you'll be up after this wolf goes.
Which one in the back?
The 2nd bipedal wolf swings at Headsman.
Greataxe ho!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
The axe cleaves down and through Headsman's chain shirt, the rage intensified strength lending it more power.
damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Corvus Cator |

I marked the target as blue on the map. Everyone else is in melee and The Albatross doesn't have Precise Shot.

stormcrow27 |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Quad Wolf 1 - 16 hp
Quad Wolf 2 - no damage
Bipedal Wolf 1 -9 hp
Bipedal Wolf 2 -10 hp
The Albatross' arrow impacts into the other bipedal wolf, sinking deep, but the wolf simply pulls it out.
Quad Wolf 1 bites at Io
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Io takes 6 pts as the wolf bites her, but her improved sense of balance keeps her on her feet.
Quad Wolf 2 attacks Headsman
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
The second wolf misses Headsman clean.
The other wolf in the rear hurls a sling stone at Headsman
Sling: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The sling stone goes wide and hurls into the desk.

"Headsman" |

Headsman recoils from the blow.
"You don't scare me, mutt!"
He rushes back forward, roaring as he hefts his axe once more.
Greataxe (Power Attack): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16Damage: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
HP 18/26
