Corvus' family fled Cheliax in 4640 AR to escape the rise of House of Thrune. Owners of a successful mercantile business, they boarded one of their ships and headed to Korvosa, purchasing a home in South Shore.
Corvus grew up learning the family trade. His father kept him close, and he would spend days in his office, listening to discussions about supply and demand, the quality of goods, and plotting sea routes. When business would prevent his father from keeping Corvus to a regimented schedule, Corvus would study old maps and listen to captain's stories or romanticize exploring far away locations. Occasionally he was lucky, and his family would travel on one of their ships, where he could sample exotic dates from Kelesh, listen to the artists of Absalom, or watch the duels of Brevoy sword lords.
This world ended when his parents were murdered in a back ally while returning home. Immediately the weight of the family legacy was thrust upon Corvus, but all he could think about was his grief and the need to find out why. Corvus quickly assigned Captain Amato as steward of the Cator Trading Company and departed. Whispers and rumors suggested that Corvus had turned away from anything that reminded him of the tragedy, to escape the sorrow. But in reality he nurtured his need for justice and sought out the lands of the sword lords. There he found a mentor and embraced his studies, driven to perfection by the need to act, to find retribution, and to prevent such tragedies from occurring again needlessly in his homeland.
After two years, Corvus returned to Korvosa.
