About Hung Hei Kwoon

Hung Hei Kwoon (family name Hung) was born in the peaceful nation of Hwanggot, which is part of Tian Xia. Unfortunately at the young age of 9, Hung Hei Kwoon was captured by slavers and his parents were killed. Sold into slavery in the city of Goka, where the inhabitants worshiped Abadar. Hung Hei Kwoon respected the bringer of civilization, but he didn't understand why they accepted slavery.

When Hung Hei Kwoon reached puberty, he had enough strength to climb the wall of his master's plantation and escaped. Unsure of where to go, he ran to a monastery for protection and hiding. The monks there were wise and did not believe people should be enslaved, and they hid Hung Hei Kwoon for many years. While there, he learned to walk on rice paper without breaking it, to sit on ice blocks and let them melt to toughen his body, and to preach the way of peace and civilization.

His final task was to take a coin from his master's hand. His master was very fast, but finally he was able to do it shortly after reaching his 20th birthday. His master told him it was time to go, he had learned much, and to preach the way of civilization and that it not need to involve slavery.

From Goka in Tian Xia, he took a boat to the the Inner Sea, working as a sailor and cook to pay for his trip. He asked the captain which land near the inner sea was in most need of hope and civilization? The captain told him that the ship was sailing to Korvosa, so Hung could go there if he wanted, otherwise he could swim.

Upon arriving in Korvosa, he admired the people's hard work ethic and adherence to strength, devotion, and the respect of wealth that comes from smart and wise decisions. He found employment in Midland working at a tavern as a bouncer. It was honest work that also provided Hung with a place to sleep but minimal wages. A few large drunk men have had a go at Hung Hei Kwoon, but after a few beatdowns, the men realized the slight and fragile eastern man wasn't to be trifled with.

Indeed, Hung Hei Kwoon liked being the bouncer, as his calm demeanor and reputation allowed him to solve most problems peacefully, but should the need arise he never needed to pull out a big weapon like the soldiers.

His employer also allowed his child Jovalson to live upstairs in the room next to Hung Hei Kwoon. One night he heard some muffled sounds and assumed Jovalson was just playing around when he should be asleep. When he awoke the next morning, he realized that instead Jovalson had been abducted. His employer decided his bouncer duties could wait and asked Hung Hei Kwoon to look for Jovalson. He has interviewed many people in town, and his sense for when people are trying to deceive him has proved useful in his ongoing investigation.

Hung Hei Kwoon believes that good deeds should be rewarded, not just with honor but also with wealth. He also believes evil should be punished when found. He is currently unemployed as protest for the employer changing the deal by demanding he pay people who were not there to save Jovalson.

Hung Hei Kwoon would like to bring about civilization, obtain wealth from doing good deeds, and perfect himself and master the snake style of combat. Eventually, he hopes to have enough wealth to open his own monastery in a forsaken land to promote these things.
