So, yeah, had a great night of Jazz, drinking, gambling, drinking... and more. It was awesome.
The absolute best, though, was an airboat ride with a true old school coonass swamp dweller. Saw some amazing alligators. There was also a lone raccoon on a small swampy island eating out of a deer feeder. So, picture this: massive fan on the airboat. Small raccoon on a small island surrounded by swamp. Turns the airboat so the fans, powered by a ford V8 engine, are facing the raccoon. Thick, thick New Orleans drawl:
"Well, I'm'a gonna give this here 'coon a Cajun blow job!"
Hammers the throttle. Deafening roar from engine and fan. Raccoon blown head over heels straight into the swamp.
Absolute classic.
Glad to see you are experiencing all this great country has to offer. Might I suggest for your next vacation to tour all our country's truck rest stops?

Ha, found the GM discussion thread for Crypt. No "errata" keyword on the thread, messing with my Google-fu. The southwest door in the room you are in (area 6) is actually not locked.
The issue, as I can tell you now, is it is disable device DC 30, and yet there is no key for it anywhere. Also, the dungeon doesn't really flow properly if the players can't get through that door.
The southeast door is still locked up tight (DC 30).
So do we still need to dive for the key? What level 1-2 can DD DC 30?

![]() |

It can be done... Just need a high DEX and masterwork picks. As It is, Trask can take 20 for 28 right now, and if Jaender can aid him, we can do it. Or we just take an axe to it, and chop it down.

![]() |

FYI. I will be posting in both games in a couple of hours. Got a surprise call to GM slave ships yesterday. Thank you Damo for GMing it so well. Helped me a lot. They did go "murder hobo" a lot more than we did, but was fun. And we finished in 3.5 hours. I never have scenarios finish that fast!

![]() |

Well, that being the case, Trask can still pull it off.
If he takes off his armor (which is giving him a -2 ACP) he'll have a +10...
2 ranks + DEX 14 + Class Skill + trapfinding (+1) + MW Picks
2 + 2 + 3 + 1 + 2 = +10
Add in a Guidance, and it is no big deal (just will take quite a while, and then he'll need to put his armor back on).
I personally could see another Aiding with picking locks... they could be talking through the lock, and all. However, since Jaender cannot achieve a DC30 it could be said that he cannot assist in any case.
No big deal, we'll do what we need to do :)
But, to answer "Poochie", it is very possible to be able to open a DC30 lock at level 1.
16 DEX + 1 Rank + Class Skill + Trapfinding + MW Picks
3 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 2 = +10
And, Open Locks is one of the examples for taking 20! It would take 2 minutes (20 rounds), since opening locks is a full round action.

Ok, so I wanted to tell everyone how Ibid pulled off the key "riddle" in our live table game. We had a warpriest who cast detect magic, and was in the process of taking her armor off to swim down and get the key. Ibid was feeling plucky, and said, "Can I just swim down and try to randomly grab the right key?"
I said, "Sure, I don't see why not." And thought, Fat chance that is going to work... I will pick a random number between 1 and 100... Lets go with 97. "Ok, Ibid. How many times are you going to try? 3? Good. Roll percentile. If you hit the number I have secretly written down here, I will say you come up to the surface with the right key. 61. Nope. 23. Nope. 97? What? Wow.... Yea, you got it."
And this was about the time the Warpriest had just finished taking her armor off.... Moral of the story is you don't always have to solve every riddle. Sometimes button mashing does work :) Ironically, it can be just as fun!

Not a fan of Louisiana-style red neck tour guides? ;-) It's been great fun. I flew this time, but I may drive next time so I can sample some truck rest stops as you suggest. I'll drink the coffee and eat the sandwiches... and I'll try to remember to pack the emergency bucket.
Great to hear that Ibid did well with random - my night was not so lucky. Lost $400 when I had aces and he had ace king. All in pre flop. He makes his straight on the turn. Grrr.
So, for those who played this before, can anyone remember how they got through the south western door? PM me if there is a spoiler. I'm just curious as to how other GMs have handled it.

I'm sorry it took me a bit to do my surprise round action. I saw the posts on the forum a little earlier, and that it was my turn to act, but I was tied up tonight with my Ann Arbor (in person) gaming group. I'm GMing a homebrew campaign setting using the white wolf system and everyone had to make their characters tonight. I'm going with a supernatural Wild West setting, kind of like Deadlands/Weird West (if anyone is familiar with that setting), and I hope it will be very neat. We're calling our version of the supernatural wild west setting, Tequilapunk, I think I read that term somewhere once and liked it a lot.
end rant #1
Also, Jaender is right about how our other gaming group was able to solve the water/key puzzle from Crypt of the Everflame. My toon grabbed 3 random keys from the bottom and completely lucked out. I must say, it worked out super well. That being said, I knew my luck wouldn't hold out if I tried the same tactic a second time, so I didn't try it in this game :)
end rant #2

FYI - I will be out of town at a convention from Nov 6-9, so may not be able to post during this time. GM Damo, you are welcome to bot Trask during this time, if needed.

GM Damo |

So, little further has been said on Play by Post Gameday 3, but I'd really like to know if any of you are interested in playing this exact same format (all us) but just signed up to Gameday 3. The way I see it, the table will be pre-recruited, we just get boons and have to finish our sessions by Feb (piece of cake, right?).
I'd like to run Hall of the Flesh Eaters (available today!) and I'm not entirely sure what to run after that.
It would be for the "original" group (the guys currently playing with Lort).
We'll still all be level 2 or 3, so I'm open to suggestions for any tier 1-5 scenarios you'd like to play. Just suggest them before tomorrow night (I think I have to register before then).
Also, Silbeg, you said we couldn't play tier 3-7 until the characters were all level 3 (even if the average tier was still 3). I can't find that reference... is it online or in the GOP?

![]() |

I am fully on board with this. I'm down for any scenario, honestly. I haven't played many of them.

GM Damo |

Ooh, as the highest rated / reviewed tier 1-5 in season 5 (well, part 2 is anyway), how about Destiny of the Sands (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3)? By my calculations, we should be able to do part 1, 2 and then jump straight into part 3 (tier 3-7, but we'll all have leveled by then).
I would also suggest that some of the higher level characters may like to take a back seat (Amaranti, Gunari, Lort's GM credits - all of which will be level 3 after Throaty Mermaid) in favor of some different level 1-2 PCs during at least some of the tier 1-2 scenarios. Out-of-subtier gold isn't too bad, but it might be nice if we got closer to each other's levels for future gaming.
With Silbeg's upcoming hiatus, it looks like we'll be finished Crypt of the Everflame in time to do the switcharoo for me running the old group again, and Silbeg running Thorn Keep, too. So that would make the next game with me GMing the group the PbP Gameday one (assuming everyone likes free boons).
I just read some of the FAQs and rules for the gameday, there is absolutely no issues running pre-recruited private tables. So unless I have a good reason not to, we're in!

GM Damo |

Also, Silbeg, you said we couldn't play tier 3-7 until the characters were all level 3 (even if the average tier was still 3). I can't find that reference... is it online or in the GOP?
Found the reference. It was split over two columns, so I missed it on the first few reads:
Tiers are a level restriction for play. If a PC’s level does not fall within the level range of a scenario’s tier, that character can not legally play in that scenario.

![]() |

I am fully on board with this. I'm down for any scenario, honestly. I haven't played many of them.
+1

GM Damo |

Ah, didn't realize you couldn't replay them (well, I knew about part 3 unless you wanted to waste a GM star on it).
Aren't they covered under: "All Tier 1 scenarios and Tier 1–2 sanctioned modules are available for unlimited replay with a 1st-level character for credit"? Or does it have to be a specific Tier 1 scenario? If so, what are Tier 1 scenarios? Even The Confirmation is tier 1-2.
I've played but not run Horn of Aroden (or maybe I was going to but played something else... can't recall) and would be happy to run it and Merchant's Wake.
Anyone else for Horn of Aroden and Merchant's Wake? After that, we'll have some more season 6 scenarios to play at 3-7.

![]() |

Sign me up for whatever with this group... I have played merchants wake with a different character, not with Cyrus
-Posted with Wayfinder

GM Damo |

Sign yourself up! ;-) If you've played merchant's wake, I'll do Horn of Aroden next, then. Hopefully one of the November releases will be tier 1-5.
I must have some kind of sickness. I really must.
Hall of the Flesh Eaters is now open. Please dot in whenever you feel the need. I've made the campaign inactive so it won't appear on your lists. I'll activate it when the Throaty Mermaid is over... unless you'd like it to be active now?
Post away! I'll try to check in every now and again.

![]() |

Posting at my usual pace has been a challenge today... well the last few days really.
Just FYI - Hall of the flesh eaters will be Cyrus' 6th chronicle sheet, which will ding him to level 3 (yay!) I believe the same is true for Ibid. So we will be level 3 when we play Horn of Aroden. I also have no problem re-playing the merchant's wake with a different character, and it would still fit the tier we are playing in. That scenario was tough for pbp, but I think the quality of GM and player here would lend itself very well. Whatever we can do to get boons and freebies for the pbp gameday, I am all for!

![]() |

Jaender, technically you cannot replay Merchant's Wake. You could run it, though (and let Gunari and Lort ride again!).
Oh, and I'll set up the Thornkeep level this evening... and post the link here.

![]() |

Oh man... I suppose I could run it... I am suddenly nervous, the thought of GM'ing for this group is a little intimidating... would be fun though.
I will admit though that game would go slower, I can do a decent amount of posting as a player, but the effort necessary to posting as a GM might get some sideways looks from my Boss Wife.

GM Damo |

We don't have to play Merchant's Wake. Hall of the Flesh Eaters first, then Horn of Aroden... and then we can worry about what's next. I will say, though, that I don't think I could take a back seat and not GM any game at all (I really love the GM chair). I'd be happy to GM one and play in two, though! If you wanted to run one, Steve, a slower pace would work just fine.

![]() |

I'm down, I love playing Ibid. Sounds like an amazing time!

![]() |

Anyone seen this?

![]() |

Well don't get to excited. We don't know what it means, yet. Still, I am excited to hear what they are planning.
Also, worst case, I currently have three replays, and soon three more, due to GM stars and a boon. So I might be convinced to replay a scenario, if it is a good one, and one conducive to replay.
I want to save four for replaying Eyes of the Ten, which will leave two (or four by February, when I hit four stars).

![]() |

Don't be afraid... A good group is always a joy to GM for. I am sure that we will all do what we can to make it enjoyable for you! I would not be concerned about playing Ina a game with any of you GMING.

![]() |

I have played Horn of Aroden, but haven't played Merchant's wake. In any case, Hall of the Flesh Eaters sounds good. I trust that is only starting after once "Murder" is finished?
Let's see if the replay rules will change (fingers crossed...)

BTW, I was browsing through the new Occult Adventures -playtest yesterday, and when reading the Spiritualist class, Ophiuchus & Merian came immediately to my mind :)

FYI - I've created the game for Thornkeep.
http://paizo.com/campaigns/v5748p75hok0t/gameplay#1
It is session 120 for the Gameday!

![]() |

Feels strange being one to say "no, sorry, played that already". I used to be the one in our local pfs groups who would be fine with any scenario. I don't know if it helps, but I made a sheet (here) where you can mark what scenarios you have played, so we could find the ones which would suit everyone

![]() |

Ok, so between our two games and the beginning of our now legendary bar scene intros, This is exactly the stuff that makes me refresh every 5 minutes. So freaking fun...
And I think I may have projected some of the "clench" into my character... little nervous here!

![]() |

Holy crap! Crit on a strength drain? Looks like Trask is going to be pretty much useless the rest of this adventure.... he'll be, at best, at a STR10. Do we know if there is a healer in town that we could get some lesser restos from? I know none of us can cast the spell. Are we under time constraints? I thought we were. If so, I am pretty much screwed.

![]() |

I can list out the scenarios in 1-5 that I haven't played:
Season 1:
TDWK (29, 30, 41, 48 - have played part 3, not sure i wanna replay it)
#39: The Citadel of Flame
#49: Among the Dead
#55: The Infernal Vault
Season 2:
#2-15: Shades if Ice I
#2-17: Shades if Ice II
#2-19: Shades if Ice III (actually have played it, but will replay)
#2-21: The Dalsine Affair (this is the one hinted at in Slave Ships)
#2-23: Shadows Last Stand I
#2-24: Shadows Last Stand II
Season 3:
3-05: Tide of Twilight
3-09: Quest for Perfection I (actually, have played, but will replay)
3-11: QFP II
3-13: QFP III
Season 4:
#4-07: Severing Ties
Season 5:
#5-19: The Horn of Aroden
#5-21: The Merchant's Wake
Season 6:
#6-06: Hall of the Flesh Eaters
I did not note season 0, though I have only played a couple from then.
Another option might be for me to run one of the best, ever... #3-21 The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment.
Also, I may play a different character for a scenario or two, just so you all can catch up to Gunari.

![]() |

I know I have played lots of scenarios, but I didn't realize so few were actually in season 5... I am pretty wide open. Curious to see what it looks like all filled in, nice job Amaranti!

Wilmannator |

Dude, Silbeg, that is a f*cking small list of stuff you haven't played! Crazy, man, crazy.
Does that mean you have played all the other season 6 scenarios? Notably the level 3-7 ones? What am I to do with you?
**EDIT:** Read, Damien, read... yeah, 1-5 scenarios you haven't played. Have you played any 3-7 from 6? Because that's where I'm planning to go once we've all leveled enough.

GM Damo |

Merian Vargidan wrote:It is neither, actually. A little quirk in the system... probably for playability, or maybe an oversight.** spoiler omitted **
Hamilton Trask wrote:Good thing that carrying capacity isn't affected by strength damage! Otherwise Trask would be laying on the ground/Really, is that only drain? I never knew...
Probably more like the system for negative levels. They likely wanted to make it easy to apply and also make it not so much of a murderous c*nt of a thing to happen.

GM Damo |

The cleric in town can't cast the spell. He may have another scroll (since he had that first one) but no-one would know for sure (since there are no pious types here).
Also, there is something of a time constraint in that Roldare's sister is still down there somewhere. You could assume she's dead... but that's up to you guys.
I will say, though, that this is a very well designed module. You should feel free to push on a little bit more, even on STR 10. Also, I don't believe Trask will be useless even so hampered. You've got a great build there.

GM Damo |

Really, really sorry about that guys. I realize now that I made extinguishing the fire seem tantalizing (especially with the penalty) by adding in some text for how to get rid of it. I would have described that method in a real life game anyway... but wow. So bad there right now.
Hamilton is not getting the effects of the smoke, so the next room is "safe" from the acrid cloud. Jaender can only move 20 ft a round now, though...
So, so sorry. I'll try to allow you as much time to think and consider your actions to avoid PC death here.
FYI: Strong Brute is strong enough that he can "retrieve" Jaender and carry him one handed. With Jaender's assistance, he won't provoke an AoO for doing so.

![]() |

It's not your fault, GM Damo, that was completely my fault. I'm sorry everyone. I hope I don't cause anyone's toon to die here, with my actions.

GM Damo |

:-)
You gave everyone a full round to say "No! if they didn't want you to douse the flames. Don't be hard on yourself. The main issue with a dead toon is what happens to the corpse in 1d4 rounds... but you definitely do not want to think about that!
Oh, the help I could offer if but one of you had knowledge (religion)!!!

![]() |

Why would an Oracle take ranks in Knowledge (Religion)? Oh ...

GM Damo |

GM Damo wrote:In game chat please! Or just choose. ;-)[ashamed]Sorry. How long do I have to sit in time out?[/ashamed]
5 minutes or until you apologize to your sister!
Oh, wait...
...erm... no worries, Ophiuchus. Just trying to make sure the gameplay thread stayed pure... and that such things were handled by character chat. It's actually more fun (for me at least) that way, and perfectly acceptable to do (talking as a free action and all that). I play very loose with the amount of talking you can do in 6 seconds - especially since so much else can also happen in those 6 seconds. Look what happened in just over 12!!!!

Test:
Edit: Okay, apparently the dice roller just disregards any text that is not in the correct format. (Some of you might already know this, surely). I was wondering why it put the 20 but not the D.
