Meg barely notices Kast getting hit again, as now this 'finding the creature's heart' situation is a serious problem that she simply must solve. She keeps moving her sword as she tries to figure out some metric she can use to make an educated guess about the creature's anatomy.

As this happens, she realizes that the sinspawn has left the back of its head open. "Aha! I should have guessed that you are absolutely heartless. Let us see how good the head is on your shoulders."

She simply does the sensible thing and runs her blade through the back of its skull.

Meg immediately cleans her sword with her magic, not wanting to let that monstrosity's scent linger on it a moment longer than necessary. "Always search, I say. Never know what you may find hiding away." Meg's curiosity is more personal, though. She has been to prisons before with Sapphira to support her beloved friend in her work, but such visits were always mediated by staff. Further, Meg has never been known for powers of observation, so the details of those visits quickly faded from her mind, if they were even present in the first place.

But now, with her real name being wanted for murder, a prison has a much more personal feeling. Is this like where they would send her in Magnimar? She probably would not be there long, as she could not imagine the people would want anything but a quick execution. Swift justice for the vile woman that murdered her family. She can certainly understand the need for vengeance deep in her gut, the desire to see someone broken and defeated at your feet as they plead for mercy from your righteous wrath. She was a mother once. Not much of one, but one nonetheless. Those two girls would have certainly grown to be better than her, but now they will never have a chance.

Did something similar happen to Nualia? There was no mention of a child in the diary. Such a tragedy would certainly explain her anger, her hatred. Of course, Meg might just be projecting her own experiences on to another, but the mere possibility of a connection there leaves Meg with this feeling that she has to just talk to this woman. "Nothing--and nobody--is lost until you stop looking." Sapphira loves her aphorisms. Meg wonders if she should look for Nualia.

She shakes herself out of her thoughts. She will have more time for this kind of reverie later. She needs to focus for now.

Retired to Taldor?

"Nice trick!" Watching as Meg uses magic to clean her, Seamus turns from the hallway and quickly searches all of the small cells. Looking around to the others, "did anyone else find anything?"

Once the conversation about what anyone found is over, Seamus begins to proceed down the hallway to the east.

At Meg's request, Seamus will take 10 (21) on perception for the jail. Then return to the hallway.

Kast, I usually just keep track per battle, assuming you’re at max hp, or close enough. So I’ll occasionally be off by a few points.

After a thorough search of the prison, you find little of anything at all. Some bones here and there, but most are so old as to be crumbly. The skull the two sinspawn were fighting over is remarkably solid for its age, but drop it, even from a short height, and it’ll shatter into many meaningless pieces.

Proceeding eastward down the gradual slope, you enter a room containing several ancient relics of what appear to be torture implements, although their function and style seem strange and archaic. In one corner sits a spherical cage with spikes protruding inward from its iron bars. In another stands what appears to be a star-shaped wooden frame, its surface studded with hooks. And in the center of the room is a long table covered with leather straps and a number of cranks that seem designed to rotate and swivel.

While the torture devices here may have seen plenty of use back in the day, they are far too decayed and rusted to be of any use today. In fact touching one of the whips causes it to crumble nearly to dust.

Izomandakus comes to observe the still alive body Kizzy is pointing out "It certainly breathes and bleeds like any of us, thus, they are no undead at all..." the boy is starting to count pulses pressing the wrist of the beast when Seamus passes the knife through the chest.

"Tsk!" Izomandakus drops the wrist and the count "We could have taken it to the Watch prison, or put it into one of these cells. Imagine the amount of information we could have learned about sinspawns studying its behavioral and nutrition patterns"

"If we do not write down all that and publish it, how will adventurers know vital information about them? Not everyone is as deadly skillful as Meg" the boy arches an eyebrow holding the stare at Seamus. Pachemu strokes her head against his leg trying to calm him down.

As the group moves on towards the east, Izomandakus examines the torture devices in search of some mechanic parts that might help him on his projects.

While Seamus checks the eastern door, the boy goes for the southern one instead.

'Taken it to the watch?' Raising an eyebrow at his friend's outburst Seamus wipes the blood off of his longknife onto the corpse. "Take it back to Sandpoint with us? Hell's no! Figure out it's behavior? It was summoned out of a fountain." He gestures towards Meg, "She figured out everything anyone needs to know, stick 'em with the pointy end." Standing up and moving toward the hallway. "I'm sure miss statue out there kept notes for posterity, that's what you academic types do, right? When we're done killing all these things you can go to a bloody library and find her autobiography." Seamus huffs and heads down the hallway.

You open the southern door first to reveal the crumbling remnants of several chairs and a long table cluttering the floor of this room. To the south stand three stone doors, each bearing a strange symbol that resembles a seven-pointed star. After quick examination, these three doors are also opened (GMPC). The small chambers beyond were prison cells. Two have skeletons within - badly deformed humanoids. One has a misshapen skull and the other a rib cage that goes all the way down to the pelvis - a pelvis with stunted leg bones strewn below its strangely flat girth.

Meanwhile, the eastern door reveals a long staircase descending into the earth. You can see the beginnings of another chamber, well lit, beyond the staircase. From within however, you hear the high pitched voice of a goblin, calling out!

What strikes you more though, is that this chamber is well lit, and well guarded. An insane, three armed goblin (image) stands on the far side of the room, keeping watch over the wood covered pits.

Meg double moves to the next chamber to join the others. Izomandakus descends the stairwell as well and tries to disarm the angry goblin, though he maintains his grip. Seamus rolls in, critically striking the poor goblin in the chest, slashing him deeply. Kizzy moves into position, exposing herself more than she’d like as she tries to avoid the trap-doors, but she does connect firmly, slashing the goblins leg once in position. Kast, taking little damage, finds its enough as he works to keep his breakfast down.

Taking advantage of the AoO, the opposition tries to shorten her stride.
longsword on Kizzy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Kizzy pays the price for her maneuver, as the goblin lashes out rather strongly against her.

The goblin roars with anger, or rather squeals. He lashes out at Seamus before taking a 5’ step southeast.

Kizzy fails to get her spear in the right place at the right time, and Seamus is also blooded - though the strike was true enough it might have hit anyway.

The goblin laughs heartily as his blades find their mark.

Meg moves into position, but cannot land a blow. Izomandakus greases the floor under the poor goblin trying to prevent escape. Seamus connects with both blows! Kizzy also connects with her borrowed longspear, and the goblin drops, bleeding to the floor, a deep gouge through his right lung. Kast moves up, but misses the falling goblin.

The goblin coughs up a wad of blood, as his weapons clatter to the floor. He follows shortly thereafter and begins to bleed out.

We are out of initiative.

Seeing Kizzy run the goblin through, Seamus nods, 'Well done Kizzy!"

Lowering his weapons, keeping his wounded arm cradled, Seamus Points at the grease with the other, asking Ixomandakus, "Can you remove the grease? I'd rather not slip into one of theses pits finishing the Goblin." He raises an eyebrow, "Unless you object to me putting this thing out of it's misery too."

He gestures back towards one of the wooden platforms, "Should we see what's down below?"

Kast will examine the weapons of the creature, also if there is any loot around.

What is under the cratey things?

Retired to Taldor?

Nodding approvingly at Kast's handywork, Seamus moves out from amongst the pallets, against the wall. Shifting the pallet in the south east corner with his foot, he slides it back out of the way so they can see what's inside.

You open one of the unlatched, but truly decrepit trap doors and look into the hole… It’s a small hole, just a few feet across but ten feet deep. Scarcely large enough to fit someone down standing up. But that’s what someone has done. Deep in the pit is what’s left of a prisoner, sacrificed here who knows how long ago. Their corpse has animated into a zombie, eternally scratching to try and climb out of its pit.

But it cannot.

When you check the other trap doors, they too contain zombies, or at least most of them do. All trying slowly to crawl out of their individual pits.

The goblin had
Longsword made of bloodcrystal and glowing like a torch +1 (3,815gp)
Dagger, silver (22gp)
Handaxe, MW (306gp)

Female Human(varisian)

Meg glances down one of the holes. The space between her cheek and her lips pulls up in an expression of disgust. ”What vile mind thought this was a clever idea. And were these bodies murdered and raised or just graverobbed? Disgusting.” She pulls out her hand crossbow and reloads it. ”I think it perhaps best that we put these dead to rest, would you not say so?”

If we decide to clear them out, I’m cool with just crossing off some ammo and moving on since it doesnt look like they can get out

Retired to Taldor?

Moving back from the pit, Seamus turns to, Kast, "At least we got him before he could get down the hall." He gestures towards the wand, lifting his wounded arm. "You mind using the wand again?" as Kast waives the wand, Seamus moves the arm, "Thanks!"

Nodding in agreement with Meg, "Yeah it makes no sense. But putting them down does." He gestures towards Kizzy who's still holding the spear, "Do we want to waste arrows? Or use the spear." Moving back toward the goblin, he lifts the silver dagger. "What's the point of making a dagger of silver? Anyone mind if I use it?"

As the others decide what to do with the zombies, Seamus moves down the hallway and looks to the left.

"Yeah, I think so too. We need to put them to rest...forever," Kast would help but doesn't have adequate ranged weaponry for it...unless he takes back the longspear he offered Kizzy.

"Kizzy, did you want this sword? It's glowy and still sharp," Kast looks at the longsword wistfully, but he knows he hasn't trained with the blade to make it worthwhile for him to keep.

"I can take back my longspear to handle these zombies, unless you'd rather do it?" Kast is fine either way, but wants the zombies laid to rest.

Kast offers the fancy dagger to 'Mus.
