Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you all a heads-up...I got married earlier this afternoon and and won't be back from my honeymoon until Tuesday evening.
Please feel free to bot me as necessary! Thank you!

Amelleanne |

Well that's no excuse. ;-) Congratulations.

Let me explain my thoughts here. The raiders dead at the village were wearing blue feathers, but this group is wearing reddish skins. I'm betting that there's more than one tribe of lizardfolk in the swamps. If I'm guessing right, these guys are a different group from the raiders, and we may be able to get through this without a fight. That will let us save resources for the raiders and they might even be able to help us, depending on what they think of the group the raiders come from.

Kyrus Leafstrider |

Okay, does anyone have any plans other than attempting to just kill them all as fast as possible? Because I can probably hit the sentry pretty hard if someone else can reliably finish him off. But then we're going to have to hit hard and fast. Also, remember that a charge attack is a standard action, so you can charge in to melee with a surprise round.

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Blitzkrieg sounds viable to me.

Craft Traps: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Total of 14 gold
Alright, so we should each be getting 220 gold (well 120 gold and 1 platinum but it amounts to the same) plus we need to have the jewels appraised and sold off as well as any of the rest of the gear that we have no intention of keeping. I'm guessing that we want to keep the ring.

Quick question - Average Wealth by Level would have us at 3,000 gp by 3rd level. Before the gems are appraised and sold, we are about 400 gp. I'm fine with a low treasure campaign. I'm having fun with this campaign, but was curious if this was by design or if we'll be catching up? I was planning on focusing on crafting items, but with the low wealth that makes it hard. Just wondering if I should shift my thinking about what feats to take at 3rd level.

Treasure:
100 gp each from Piann.
The lizard stash of 120gp + 6pp = 180 gp.
The amethyst is worth 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 = 10 x10 = 100 gp
Both pieces of jade are worth 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 3) + 5 = 11 x10 = 110 gp each
The pearl is worth 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6x50 +250 = 550 gp
(180 + 100 + 110 + 110 + 550) / 6 = 175 +100 = 175 gp each
You have the magic amulet and a ring of fire resistance.
Between the magic, coins, and gems, you are about right for an APL of 2 (plus your caravan duty gave you serious magic for the level). I also don't take a cost of living tax from you... =)
I don't want to short you, but also trying to translate an old AD&D module into Pathfinder ;-)

Kyrus Leafstrider |

Honestly, we might just want to sell the ring and the amulet and put the money toward more practical equipment. I feel sort of bad about selling off Cromm's ring, but putting the vast majority of the party's wealth in to one item, especially since it's sort of a situational piece of equipment, is sort of a waste. Honestly, the amulet is incredibly situational as well. Even if we only get 50% value for them, that's enough for the entire party to get a +1 enchantment on their armor or a minor item with more general use like some potions, a cloak of resistance, or a ring of protection.

Brynderie del'Agost |

GM - I'm fine with any wealth level, just was trying to get a feel for where to best allocate my feats.
I would agree with Kyrus on selling the two items. It would be better for the group to spread out the wealth of those items. I will be taking Craft Wonderous Item, so I can help with some minor items if you want to risk the skill check.

Kyrus Leafstrider |

True, though we do have a friendly merchant who likes us. I bet that if we asked, he could have equipment we need shipped in if it's not available in town. Though, basic +1 equipment is generally pretty easy to get, either by purchasing or by hiring someone to do enchanting. Maybe the court wizard would be willing to take commissions.

GM &rew |

The minor ring of energy resistance (best conversion from AD&D to Pathfinder) is 12,000 gp. Not sure what the amulet would be in Pathfinder, so let's make an educated guess and go with a minor wondrous item worth 6,000 gp. Your traveling merchant friend can sell these for full price in the capital. Although it would be a good story to give you half now and half when he next rolls through Daggerford, for ease of tracking, you can have the full price now =) So that's an additional 3,000 gp each for selling off the magic items!
And yes, there are craftsmen and enchanters to get you the basic buffs to armor and weapons. Like Pathfinder Society always available magic items and enchantments. Anything beyond a +2 and we'll have to work out a trip to the capital or something else ;-)

Brynderie del'Agost |

Thanks, GM!
I can now craft wonderous items for the party. I have an additional 5% off the cost due to a trait. So, for example, a cloak of protection +1 is 475 gp. I will of course make them at cost for the party. I only ask that if it requires a spell I don't have, you help me buy the spell.
As we are 3rd level, I can only make items that require 2nd level spells and below and caster level 3 and below. So, cloak of protection +1 is available as it is a cantrip and CL 3. But a handy haversack is not available as it requires a 5th level spell. Belt of Giant Strength is available costing 1,900 gp for the belt and 40gp for Bull's Strength. If multiple people want the same item, the can split the cost of Bull's Strength as I only need it once.
The DC to make any wonderous item is 5 + the CL. So, the cloak or belt is DC 8. I have a +12 in spellcraft, so it should be an auto-success.
The time to craft is 8 hours for each 1,000 of base price. So, a cloak is 8 hours and the belt is 24 hours. I figure I can craft for 16 hours a day and still get sufficient sleep. The number of items I can craft will depend on how many days we have until the next mission.
Please let me know if you want any items. If time is short, I'll spread out the items among the party.
Update on leveling:
Learned Spells for new level (4): Create Pit, Stone Call, Summon Monster II, Web
Purchased 1st lv Spells: Feather Fall, Floating Disk, Identify, Magic Missile, Mount, Obscuring Mist, Reduce Person, Silent Image & Snowball (90gp)
Purchase 2nd lv Spells: Alter Self, Flaming Sphere, Fox's Cunning, Glitterdust, Invisibility, Levitate, & Mirror Image (280gp)
Crafted Items for Self:
Cloak of Protection +1 (475gp)
Headband of Vast Intelligence (Fly) (1,900gp)

Kyrus Leafstrider |

Hmmm, so if I wanted Bryn to make a Cloak of Protection +1 and a Belt of Incredible Dexterity, it would cost 2415gp (475 + 1900 + 40) correct? Would that be okay?
Also, I don't think we resolved what we're doing with the common weapons are armor we got from the lizardfolk. I suggested either donating them to someone who could make use of them (Cromm's Hold or the Militia) or selling them for some pocket money.

GM &rew |

Just one correction - the total gold for this adventure is 3,175. I already added in Piann's reward.
And while Bryn's math is likely correct, I haven't researched crafting in a while =) Let me double check the time and resources required to understand it. My "practical" side is skeptical that anyone can just mass-produce magic items...if it was this easy EVERYONE would be sporting a ton of killer magic!

Kyrus Leafstrider |

The trick is that your average peasant makes very little and even the cheapest magic items cost a decent amount of gold. If you're not a somewhat skilled adventurer, you're can afford any off it. Plus, most wizards charge twice production cost so that they make a decent profit. It only comes relatively cheap if you have a personal wizard friend who won't charge the premium for the gear.

Brynderie del'Agost |

Yea, the cost is usually prohibitive for most people... and the time required is a big deal. Most campaigns don't have a lot of down time between adventures. This one is giving us little gaps that will allow me to make some things. Its 8 hours per 1,000 of base price... not my cost. So, the cloak which normally costs 1,000 takes me 8 hours. The belt normally costs 4,000... so 32 hours. Assuming I need a full nights rest, the belt will take me 2 full days. So, the biggest question is how much time we have until the next adventure. Doubtful I can create a belt and a cloak for everyone. That is 2.5 days x 6 people = 15 days.
Also, keep in mind that some items take spells that are too powerful for me. So, I can't make them yet.
Also, I cannot craft magical armor... so, you'll need to pay full price to a local merchant for the +1 mithril chainmail. I'm considering taking Craft Arms & Armor at 5th level.

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

I think there's some rule somewhere that says you can't spend more than eight hours a day on crafting items. That may just be an old house-rule that I'm remembering or something though, so don't quote me on it.

GM &rew |

A character can work on only one item at a time. Regardless of the time needed for construction, a caster can create no more than one magic item per day. Crafting a wondrous item requires 1 day for each 1,000 gp of the base price.
You have two weeks between adventures. If you are crafting, then you do not get to roll your skill check for additional gold earnings on those days.
Also, as far as getting magic items, the number and types of magic items available in a community depend upon its size. As Daggerford is a large town, there is a 75% chance that any item of 2,000 gp base value or lower can be found for sale with little effort in there. Unusual material, like mithril, will be a little harder to come by.
Thanks - you guys are helping me to learn more about the Pathfinder rules =) Let the crafting commence!!

Kyrus Leafstrider |

I would love that belt and cloak I mentioned (always good to start with the basics) which should take three days and 2415gp. I'm also buying a Masterwork Composite Longbow (+1 Str) for 500gp and a set of Masterwork Thieves' Tools (well trapsmith tools technically, but mechanically the same) for 50gp. That should total 2965gp for my upgrades if Bryn can spare the time to make the items I need.

Amelleanne |

Sorry, I've lost track a little, but, did we gain 3,275 each? or for the party?
I'll take a look at items, any awesome suggestions, I've rarely been in a position to buy magical things, we tend to make do with what we get in most games I've been in.

Leon Primrose |

So putting on the record the biggest change for Leon is he now has access to level 2 spells's.
I can use masterwork transformation and the ability score increasing spells, those are the important one's anyway's.
I still need to level up Lorelei, i should have that done by tonight or tommorow.
oh i also gain the trackless step ability- it prevent's me from leaving tracks unless i want to
Feat- Weapon focus short spear

Sounds good. I've deducted the 10gp for my profession.
I also see from the link that I can hurry the process to craft items at 1,000gp/4 hours if I take a +5 to the DC. I believe that allows me to make the headband/belt in 1 day. This will allow me to make 2 items per person in the given time period. Let me know it that is correct, GM. Thanks.
I have 14 days to craft. I'll be casting Crafter's Fortune on myself each day for a +5 luck bonus to the spellcraft check.
Day 1 = Craft my cloak of resistance +1, DC 6 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 8 = 26
Day 2 = Craft my headband of vast intelligence +2. Hurrying the proccess to DC 11 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 8 = 27
I have a belt and cloak for Kyrus. Any other orders?

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

My purchases will be as follows:
1 - Masterwork Greataxe (320 gp) - 1d100 ⇒ 11
2 - Masterwork Lucerne Hammer (315 gp) - 1d100 ⇒ 16
3 - Masterwork Agile Breastplate (550 gp) - 1d100 ⇒ 41
4 - Ioun Torch (75 gp) - 1d100 ⇒ 13
I'd probably get more than that, but I don't wanna hold the game up and that's the bare minimum of stuff.
