Ana moves into the space vacated by Ferrous and swings at the [blue] one in front of her.
THAC0 15: 15 - 1d20 ⇒ 15 - (18) = -3 Ehr, what IS the damage on a two-handed sword, anyway?

Thought I replied hours ago. Looks like the board ate my post. >:-(
Brathas, Wallia, and Zynazyr shoot a volley of projectiles out the door. Each character hits once. With the last hit, the creature crumples to the floor. There is no blood.
Ana advances, and Ferrous falls back.
Ehr, what IS the damage on a two-handed sword, anyway?
Ana: 1d10, same as your battle axe, only add +1. Also, the blue enemy is already dead so you can pick a different target when you roll, and you have a second action to resolve as well.
Ferrous: If you want, after you move you can still throw a throwing axe.
Round 2 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, Zynazyr
Block 2: "Wounded Humans"
Ana and Fistep are up. Ferrous can still make an attack at range, and Ana still needs to roll damage for her first attack.

Anastoria |

Ana attacks red. The damage from her first attack is 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8.
Her second attack will be against the same foe (if it survives) or the white opponent that is to her left.
THAC0 15: 15 - 1d20 ⇒ 15 - (7) = 8 Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

In two swings, Ana manages to cut down another one of the creatures. Fistep takes down yet another. They fall silently to the floor.
"We're supposed to be friends," one of the creatures calls out in apparent anguish. "No, don't!" cries another. They close in and begin pummeling again.

Ana: 6 damage.
Round 3 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, Zynazyr
Block 2: "Wounded Humans"
Everyone is up. Ana is now also down to 6 HP.

Brathas |

"Ana, Fistep, get out of there! Choke point!"
Brathas will shoot at one that appears to be unaffected by Walia's turning.
THAC0 16, short range, cover: 16 - 1d20 ⇒ 16 - (8) = 8
Not sure about cover from the doorway
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Ferrous Grimgond |

Forgot the rules about attacking turned creatures. I think it breaks the turn effect for the creature attacked. Ferrous is targeting the same creature that Brathas just shot an arrow at.
Get behind me damned elf ye'll get yerself killed! Ferrous yells as he whirls a throwing axe between the elf and human.
Attack: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (2) = 17
Dam: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Fistep fall into a defensive position beyond the doorway! We hold them here.
He slaps his empty gauntlet against his shield.
Ferrous dice curse continues.

![]() |

Ferrous flings an axe as he falls back through the door, but it misses and clatters on the floor.
Ferrous: You hadn't used your attack from the previous round, so you take another action.
Wallia raises his holy symbol, and it seems to flash with light. The three creatures nearest to him (the three adjacent to Ana) rear up, and avert their eyes from the light. They begin to fall back (which will be resolved on their action).
The other two north of Fistep look to be unaffected.
Fistep tries to strike one but they evade his weapon.
Not sure about cover from the doorway
You can shoot over Ferrous, so the -1 for shooting past Fistep is fine.
Brathas manages to shoot the creature northeast of Fistep.
Brathas: You would need to be right behind Ferrous to see that monster so I moved your icon up. Zynazyr: This means that if you want to attack the ones that are not turned, you don't have a shot unless you move into the room.
Round 3 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, Zynazyr
Block 2: "Wounded Humans"
Ana, Ferrous, and Zynazyr are now up. FYI I moved the icons of the creatures that have been turned a half-square back. If you want to do something after they move out of the way then you will need to delay.

Ferrous Grimgond |

Ferrous frustrated that his first throwing axe missed so wildly throws his second axe at not quite dead human by Fistep.
Attack: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (17) = 2
Dam: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
this time his aim proved true and the throwing axe embedded itself deep within the unnatural creature's shoulder.

Zynazyr |

Seeing 3 of the creatures begin to withdraw from Wallia, Zynazyr steps a little closer and gets ready to throw a dagger should one of the other creatures step into sight.

Anastoria |

Ana, absorbed by the battle rage, does not hear Ferrous. She swings wildly at [red].
THAC0 15: 15 - 1d20 ⇒ 15 - (9) = 6 Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Fistep pulls back through the doorway, and takes a position just inside.
Ferrous' throwing axe strikes home and the creature reels, but is still standing.
The three creatures in front of Ana begin to fall back. But
Ana smashes at one of the creatures, nearly decapitating it. The creature's mask falls off, and Ana can see the creature's face. It's eyes are cloudy and dead.
It turns back to face her. "No, don't! Please!" it shouts, but Ana can't really tell if it is talking to her.
Ana: Do you want to move back behind Fistep? You could get swarmed otherwise.
Zynazyr: Do you want to take a shot at the creature that Ana attacked? You would be at -3 to hit based on range and cover.
Round 3 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, Zynazyr (delaying)
Block 2: "Wounded Humans"
Ana and Zynazyr may complete their actions.

Zynazyr |

Seeing Ana attack one of the creatures, he tries to hit it with a dagger. With so many people in the way, and not wanting to put a dagger in their back, it sails over everyone's head.
THAC0 18: 18 - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ 18 - (1) + 3 = 20 nice, back-to-back 1s from the rng.

Fistep and Ana fall back through the door. The two creatures that were attacking Fistep chase him towards the door. The other three seem stunned and fail to pursue.
Though the turn effect was broken by Ana's attack, I'm ruling that they will always be out of action at least 1 round as a result of being turned.
Wallia: a tactical idea. Next time you want to turn undead, say that you are waiting for everyone else in your initiative block to attack and then turn undead. FYI the three that were adjacent to Ana can no longer be turned but the other two could.
The creatures attack Fistep through the doorway. Neither can get past Fistep's armor.
FYI melee attacks through the doorway have a -2 penalty for cover.

Then he moves back so Walia can get in there.
"Walia, Ferrous needs healing!"

Zynazyr |

With 2 rows of companions in front of him, Zynazyr decides to hold off throwing more daggers and sends a bolt of energy towards the creature Brathas and Ferrous attacked, hoping to finish it off. or the one Fistep attacked if the other is down.

Wow, everyone scored a hit!
BTW, there was an error in the initiative rolls. Fistep pre-rolled his initiative, which means that the results are that Wallia got a 4 and the monsters got 5 and 6 respectively. So Wallia goes after the creatures. Which means I can resolve their actions now.
Fistep strikes the creature in front of him (red), and it reels, but is still standing.
Brathas shoots over Ferrous' head and his arrow strikes the creature standing in front of Ferrous (grey). It crumples like an empty sack.
Ferrous' intended target is already down, so he strikes with his axe, decapitating the creature standing in front of Fistep.
Damage = 2 hp
Zynazyr: Did you roll this? Your cantrip damage is 1d2. In this case it doesn't actually matter as he had 1 hp left.
Zynazyr's intended target is now down, so he sends a tiny bolt of lightning at the creature Ana wounded before. He strikes the creature in the face, and sparks arc all over its mask. It collapses.
Ana's original target is also down so she shoots at the one she can see clearly. The arrow takes it in the torso.
The remaining two creatures close in and attack. But both their attacks are blocked by the warrior's shields.

Block 2: "Wounded Humans"
Everyone is up! Wallia gets to take two actions in a row. The creature in front of Ferrous is wounded (6 damage).

Wallia of Winterbourne Stoke |

Action 1: he moves to put his hands on Ferrous, clw 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Action 2: waits until the rest make their actions and then Walia attempts to turn some undeaded creatures 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11, 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7

Ferrous Grimgond |

Ferrous emboldened by his latest swing bringing the foe to the ground tries a viscous backhand swing at the creature in front of him.
Attack: 18 + 2 - 1d20 ⇒ 18 + 2 - (13) = 7
the axe sinks deep into rotting flesh.
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Two hits in a row for the stout fellow.

Zynazyr |

Pleased that the group is dispatching the creatures, Zynazyr sends another bolt at the one in front of Ferrous.
Cantrip: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1 @GM - Sorry, I forgot damage was 1dlvl not 1/lvl.

Wallia steps forwards and heals Ferrous. Then Ferrous attacks, and cuts down the creature in front of him. "No... please don't..." it sighs as it slumps to the floor.
Zynazyr shoots another small bolt of electricity which strikes the remaining creature. Fistep swings but the creature ducks under his swing.
Wallia: The last creature is one that was already turned, and you can't turn it again. You would know that, so you can do something else with your second action.
Brathas: There are always thrown weapons if you don't want to waste ammunition. If you want to change your action you can.

4:30 PM, Day 5
Brathas flings a dagger but it strikes the door frame and misses. Ferrous advances into the room.
Ana's halberd strikes the creature in the neck, and the head flies off to the side. The rest of the creature crumples to the floor.
Combat Over.
The party searches the room.
No secret doors or traps or magic is found.
In the center of the room is a elaborate wooden coffin, but the coffin has been smashed open and the withered corpse lies on the floor. Several of its limbs appear broken and one hand is entirely missing (it is found in the corner of the room). The corpse's clothing has been torn to shreds and the body has clearly been stripped; there is nothing of value on the corpse. The only things of value are the masks which are worth 10 gp each.
So now what?
* Spend another turn to search again?
* Continue down the hall to the west?
* Return to a previously explored area?
* Retrun to camp for the night? (You have no healing left and two people are significantly down).
* Something else?

Wallia of Winterbourne Stoke |

Walia would like to search the room for one more turn and then he will say, "If we get into another entanglement today, I feel as though the gods will not be able to render any additional assistance."

Anastoria |

"Then we rest," Ana says. "Should we fortify this room, or proceed back to base camp? I am wary about going back, as we may run into more creatures."

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr looks around the room at the bodies and shivers at the thought of spending the night here. He then looks back at the door. "I agree we need to rest but I think we need to find another location. These creatures broke open the door and I don't think the previous room is an option either as that door isn't much better, not to mention the smell from the carrion crawler. We could check the room with the trap slide to the level above if we want to stay on this level," he says hoping the group agrees not to stay in the rooms with the dead creatures.

Ferrous Grimgond |

Ferrous wipes the gore from his axe on the rightfully still corpse's tunic. Bah I agree wit ye on all accounts Zynazyr. This be a foul place to lay yer head. I think the room with the ramp will make a great resting place. I suggest we avoiding the magical alarm in the hall by going around it.

![]() |

I suggest we avoiding the magical alarm in the hall by going around it.
You haven't explored that section completely, but it looks like the passage from the northern hallway (which led to the haunts) connects to the hallway where the room with the slide is.
Is that the route the party wants to take?

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr nods at Ferrous' suggestion. "Agreed, we don't want to accidentally set off that trap again if it has reset," he says as he retrieves his ustar and dagger before following the group out the door.

Fistep |

Ferrous Grimgond wrote:I suggest we avoiding the magical alarm in the hall by going around it.You haven't explored that section completely, but it looks like the passage from the northern hallway (which led to the haunts) connects to the hallway where the room with the slide is.

Sure!

Brathas |

"I would prefer to get back to camp, but if you all think it too risky we can rest in the ramp room. We can meet up with our comrades in the morning.
We also have a few minor healing potions if needed."

4:40 PM, Day 5
1d6 ⇒ 2
The party travels north and circles around to the other north-south passage, coming at it from the north.
Sure enough, the passage does connect, with a short jog to the east.
The door in the west wall is slightly ajar. Across the hall from it is a scorch mark with an outline of a humanoid figure, suggesting that intense heat came out of the doorway and incinerated someone human-shaped.
6d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 1) = 18
Ana, rathas, and Zynazyr can all hear some sounds from the other side of the door, some rustling sounds and a few noises that sound like tearing cloth.
Despite the mark on the wall, nobody detects any kind of trap on the door.
So now what?
* Open the door?
* Check the door again for traps?
* Ignore it and continue down the hall to the south?
* Go back and find another route? If so, what?
* Something else?
