It looks like the firs and the skeletons were set up as a trap for you, but this trap was set up some hours after the weasel wen't through here. The frozen blood trail of the Giant Weasel continues as the trail leaves the clearing.
Moving down the trail you see an area of disturbance in the snow. A skeleton covered in ice is lying prone, its foot caught in something.

The skeleton is still active and slashes at you with its scimitar. But you are well out of its reach. Its leg is pinned by a bear trap. You suddenly recall the hunters journal you found and realise this must be where he planted his beartraps. With this knowledge in mind, you quickly locate them.
The skeleton simple waits, its weapon ready.
The skeleton is not helpless, but cannot move and is prone. +4 to hit with melee weapons, -4 with missile unless adjacent, then +4. It has a readied action to strike if a target comes within range.

Agatha picks up a branch. A hunter seeks his prey, a cycle that is repeated throughout nature. The hunter chooses his target. These traps do not choose. Anything can set them off! she says, setting one off with a push of the branch. The teeth of the trap bits deep into the wood.
a deer, a wolf, a man or even looking at dru a bear
what would you do the the hunter that set one of these to dru silder? Or to your mule sturion. There are better ways to hunt
She throws the branch with its attached trap onto the snow.
looking at rikael she says they do it because it scares people. They do it because it is effective, they do because it is 'fun'.
She spits on the ground again, thinking it seems about some personal loss.

We do not do it just for fun " Thorn cannot help but retorts as a passing snow spirit attempts to cool his sudden displeasure.
Thorn does retrieve the trap with its snapped branch.
