Carrion Crown: Forked Path

Game Master gabboge

The path has forked and one group will follow their path and we will follow ours. Fate conspires against the enemies of the living.

This is a continuation of this thread to allow the players that did not get into the first round to have a game. If not enough of them want in then we will open to outside apps.

Please re-porst you characters here!

OK before deciding if you want to ride on my game I just want to lay down some ground rules. I hope it doesn't scare too many people off but I just want to be honest about my style. I am a more narrative focused GM in PbP which means you may feel like the game is less "Open-world"

I think at least early on we need focused direction or it can really fall apart. Once we get going in a direction then I release the reigns more. I just want to make sure everyone is settling together.

When we level up: When it makes sense in the story. I would like to have a lot of the level up hit during certain story beats. Most game are engineered with this in mind anyway but it sucks to play a character who does things that don't reward XP. So kinda forget the who XP thing.

Starting items: Here are your options start with average gold if you want or submit a "Wish-List" of items that make sense for you and I'll give you ether thumbs up or down.

New Into: The funeral will still be the starting point but I would all like the characters to be "Pen-pals" That would explain why you not a pallbearer and why you don't get dragged into the story with the other group but you still have a steak.

Please read this thread:
http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2nr91?DHs-Guide-to-Play-By-Post-gaming#1

It has all good information but specificly I want to adopt the writing style.

I like

Psioney walked over to where Minmaximus was eating and asked “Can I borrow your sword?”

More then

@ Minmaximus: “Can I see your sword?”

Here is a good example of a game I was a part of that used this well. I played Clouse, a hobgoblin marshal:

http://www.againsttheshadow.org/index.php?topic=2306.875

I like the flow of this style of game.

Jeesh that's a lot to throw out there. Anyone still interested?

*Edit* additional information from the other thread copied over.

ou can go 20 point if you want to but if you stick to 15 points then I'll throw you nifty toys and be more lenient on the materials you can draw from.

I prefer interesting over huge stats but some need the extra points to cover a wider range of stats. Like paladins who I don't want having to suffer because their class almost requires decent points into both STR/DEX and Cha for abilities to work well.

I may get half levels every now and then to space things out. Like a "You get an extra trait!" or "You just gained this ability due to story!"

Pen Pals: Yes, keep the traits you want. I'm thinking that as long as you have some sort of long distance acquaintance with the professor that is all right.

I like the idea that the players are all outsiders, and thus will be shunned by most of the town, you doubly so because you are also a wizard.

Outsiders brought in may be more trustworthy to some people in the town that are paranoid of hidden elements within the town. Sorry for being cryptic but I don't want to spoil anything for you or the other group that is playing the same scenario.

If wren wants to play along I want our two groups to be acting through the same evens but from different perspectives, never really meeting, unless we want to.

Can I still apply although I wasn't in the last thread?

We will see how many people from the previous thread pop over. I already have two that are interested from the previous thread and its only been going a few hours.

The whole point of doing this was to make sure that those who wanted into the game from the previous thread got in so they get priority. Others only get in if there is room.

Got to get some sleep but wanted you to know I'm still interested. Thanks for offering to GM I know you really wanted to play.

Roster so Far

Doon, Dwarven Rogue
Gerald Smithsson, Human Wizzard (teleportation)
Belor Spearbreaker, Human Fighter

Gerald: I can't help but play a teleportation Wizard when I run one as well. They are super fun and make you feel like a ninja. If you going to have that charisma I expect you to play it.

Belor: I don't mind you min/maxing but I won't pull any punches. Good luck with Will saves.

Shub Khuul - Scarred Witch Doctor from the Realm of the Mammoth Lords appreciates the opportunity to grieve the loss of his dear friend - Professor Lorrimor.

I don't mind running a decent sized group because of the turnover games tend to have on these boards. Just know if you go a couple of weekdays without posting you may fall behind.

Please don't retroactively post dialog for stuff you missed out on because of late posting. Just accept it and move on or bring it up later.

Here is My Re- submission, Doon, Dwarven Rogue. Soon to be maybe Investigator or Slayer. Will update later

Crumpling of parchment and a deep sigh.

So.....my dear friend has passed on. Farewell Petros Lorrimor, a good friend you have being and I am sorry to hear of your passing.

No more will there be anyone else to argue with me over old history nor ancients items.

No more will there be anyone to keep this dwarf company in this city of boring men.

No More excitment from the time of a lost forgotten tomb or the turning of pages from an ancient manuscript.

I have seen you grow from boy to man now I will for the sake of memories attend your last rites.

Oh.... and seriously - thanks for running a game! I'm a 2-3 poster daily (great job flexabilty). But first time PbP. Honesty matters. You have a deadline in mind? Cheers!

It depends on the scene. If we are hanging out in a tavern then whatever. But if we get into combat (I'll give some warning) then I expect every day, if we can swing 2 rounds a day that is awesome as well.

I will avoid straight up combat in favor of things done more cinematicly.

BTW Roster so far indicates who is in the game not just interested, in case anyone was confused.

Starting time may take about a week as I was just sent all the materials for the campaign and I have to figure out how our group will work around that group.

Awesome and thanks a lot for giving me a chance!

You play a Conjurer too? If there's any tips you have to spare, I'm more than willing to learn from someone more experienced. Never got past level 1 before and never played a summoner... they really do seem like a lot of fun, though.

About the stats, consider the low charisma fixed. 15 point buy requires more sacrifices than I usually prefer making. (Not that I wouldn't have roleplayed it.)
Keeping the low strength as it's both part of the reason he was sent off to become a wizard in the first place and because he's been living a pretty lazy life ever since, too.

Summoners are awesome! Loving my Runelord summoner (tabletop)

Arkivolld pads into Ravengro on his trusty steed-wolf just in time to see the funeral procession pass out of sight towards the graveyard.

Grr, we've missed the ceremonies. I toldja we should have taken the western road--no, I did! At least we can find the wake; I'm sure the Professor's family will appreciate my tales of our adventures together.

Resubmitted! I'll plan to do some tweaking to penpal-ify a bit, and a 20-point-buy later today?

20 points or you can trust me and get goodies and some plot power.

Roster so Far

Doon, Dwarven Rogue
Gerald Smithsson, Human Wizzard (teleportation)
Belor Spearbreaker, Human Fighter
Shub Khuul - Human Scarred Witch Doctor
Arkivolld Bristlekipp- Gnomish Cavalier

Love Gnomes and Wolf Mounts. Though at early levels mounts can become a bit game breaking but I'm used to every one of my players trying to break the game (that can be half the fun) so I'll be sure to plan around that.

@Gerald, I never really went full force into conjuring even though it was a focus. I just love teleport. I had craft wondrous item and that is what I focused in.

One of my favorite moments was teleporting to the side of a tree, using my slippers of spiderclimb to stay attached and then casting Web down into a group a badguys all standing around a fire, effectively spreading the fore and entanglement to all of them. muhahaha

Here is the page it happened, I think this was the first time in the game my lvl4 wizzard had to use more then a cantrip. He used a LOT of cantrips though.

My character was Byron.

I'll take what's behind door #2 Monty! 15 point buy

I'll PM you your goodies later. These are not a one time only thing, you'll get extra cookies that follow as this thing your getting grows.

I will be playing along. I'll pop over to your thread regularly to note anything that might effect my party. We can also message each other important events/points of interest. I don't think it will take much extra work to make this a pretty cool thing.

The "15 point trust me" option sounds like fun. I'll go thatta way with Arkivolld. :p

Can the GMs say a lil' more about what they've got in mind for the parallel groups? It sounds like the intent is to have two groups acting in a shared adventure-world and potentially affecting each other, rather than just two groups each running through CC independently? If so, that sounds pretty neat, and I'd be interested in a glance behind the curtain at some point to see how you're managing it.

See what you did? Now it seems like I don't trust you!

Fine, fine. 15 point and the goodiebag it is.

Just let me shuffle some points, drop Con to 10 -losing hitpoints, mind you! See how much I trust you not to hurt me- and raise my charisma to a more respectable level.

If you do not mind, I will follow along as well, just to keep an eye on anything of substance that might change between the two groups in case of a merger and/or shuffle down the line.

That's a fun read! :)

Will try to make this equally fun, although I fear I'm not so good at coming up with stuff like that thing with the magnets or dealing with the whole duality space thing.

I am still interested, and am resubmitting Izorshi.
I will also stick with 15 points...
could you (the GM) please describe what you mean by having the characters be "pen-pals"?
For example, right now I have written that Izorshi encountered the professor once, saved him from an attack (as per the Chance Encounter trait), and then never saw him again. Is that appropriate, or would you prefer it if she never met him face to face? Or would you rather that they continued to have long-distance communication with each other?

Also, for pbps I prefer narrative style as well so I think we would do well together.

Previous encounters are OK. Just as long as you didn't live near him in the past few years.

GM Gabboge wrote:

Yep, Izorshi left the region a long time ago:)

still interested in this game.

would love to see my nervous cleric in action.

seeing others are selecting th 15 point buy I will go with that as well it makes sense that Monty is less strong and dexterous Will work more with his timid bookworm cleric view of life.

I'll keep the 15 pt buy as well. I didn't take a drawback before because I didn't see one I liked. If I could tweak greed to be a desire for knowledge instead of a desire for wealth I would take that. Then I could add another trait like indomitable faith which would fit his back story very nicely. That would also make my will save a plus 0 instead of a minus 1.

Grand Lodge

Doon is updated as an Investigator. Wasn't too sure as to gold and whether having traits, so I left those out.

OK I don't plan to really start until about a week but we can run some prologue stuff before hand. Do little one-on-one sessions where you get to show off your character and receive your letter informing you of the professors death (Also your cookie if you opted for it.)

I would like to start with Nagual. His story may get particularly plot covered. I read up on the witches some but I am going to take some liberties.

OK prologue chapter "The Damned Cold" is up and running. Your on Nagual! Hopefully this will give everyone a bit of spotlight and set the story to be grounded specifically to the characters not just the plot.

Final Roster (Correct me if you think I made a msitake or left anyone out)

Doon, Dwarven Rogue
Gerald Smithsson, Human Wizzard (teleportation)
Belor Spearbreaker, Human Fighter
Shub Khuul - Human Scarred Witch Doctor
Monty Hail- Nervous Cleric
Izorshi- Dhampir Cleric
Arkivolld Bristlekipp- Gnomish Cavalier

7 players, these intros may stretch on a bit, but I think ultimately we will get through them quickly and I may combine a few of your intros. Just try to get read for rapid fire posting when your intro is up.

I haven't talked to Monty yet but his background and mine mesh really well. He's a Varisian Cleric of Sarenrae who spends a lot of time in libraries studying. I'm a Shoanti Lore Warden, worshiper of Sarenrae, who spends a lot of time in libraries studying. I think at the very least we've been to a lot of the same libraies and talked to the same people but I think its more likely that we're friends.

We even complinent each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Fantastic, anyone else who wants to brainstorm, do so. It's all open at this point

Mindchemist knowledge skill savant.
If recruitment is already closed, let me know. I think you have 7 already.

Belor sounds great to me.

Monty, have you made your way to the game play thread? Your up.
