UPDATE:

I have decided to go with two distinct parties. I will create a new campaign thread after selection. It will look like this:

1) One group will follow the standard storyline and be focused on the area from Oleg's Trading Post to the Tuskwater and Candlemere Lake. The second group will follow the Varnhold storyline and will be exploring to the East of the other group, seperated by the Northern spur of the Tors of the Levine, exploring Eastward into the Dunsward.

2) After the two towns are founded, I'll run a parallel barony development. Also, may invite additional people who are willing to take a slightly background role.

3) About a third to half way into the campaign, the groups will combine.

4) This will make it easier to have multiple quests going at once.

Quick question, what would the size of each party be?

Backstory:
Stanislaw Medvyed, great-nephew of Lord Gurev Medvyed, has long since sought to prove himself. His father, Jakub, is one of Lord Gurev’s most ardent knights (in addition to being Lord Gurev’s nephew), and his older brother Antoni has shown great promise in following in their father’s footsteps. Stanislaw, as a second son, was to be tutored by the local priest of Erastil for an eventual path into the clergy. However, with his desire to prove himself a knight, he would sometimes skip his priestly training in order to spend more time learning from the house master-at-arms, Hasek Uliasz. Splitting his time between the two disciplines saw him punished, but he persisted in trying to master both skills.

The priest of Erastil, Father Tomasz, recognised that, although unconventional, Stanislaw’s dedication to learning combat suited him to be a more martial priest. He spoke to Hasek, and the two worked out a joint training schedule, with a particular emphasis on the longbow. Hasek and Father Tomasz approached Jakub together, and convinced him that the dual-training schedule would be in Stanislaw’s best interests. Stanislaw received training in both priestly disciplines and martial disciplines. Upon reaching his 23rd year, he was officially ordained as a militant priest of Erastil, and given the blessing to serve with Lord Gurev’s men as he walked a path to knighthood. For the next two years, he served as one of his great-uncle’s men-at-arms, protecting villages near the Grozni Forest from the occasional bandit group. For all the good he did, however, he found that his accomplishments were often overlooked in favor of his brother’s, who seemed to have developed a reputation for bravery and heroism, throwing himself into the worst of the fighting and rallying his men to ever-greater victory.

Eventually, word arrived that the Swordlords were gathering together people to venture into the Stolen Lands. Tired of being constantly overshadowed, and seeing an opportunity, Stanislaw took his leave, packed his things, and ventured south to Restov. Perhaps in the Stolen Lands he could prove himself the skilled warrior that he knew himself to be.

Character Role/Direction:
Stanislaw is built to be a ranged combatant as his primary in-combat role, with a secondary role towards buffing/healing due to spellcasting and class features.
Out of combat, Stanislaw can serve as an okay face/negotiator with Diplomacy/Sense Motive and will eventually help with survial in the wilderness and tracking. I like putting a single rank each into Climb and Swim when I have them as class skills at first level. Once the character hits level 2, those ranks will likely be diversified into Survival and Knowledge (Religion), so he can contribute on the Knowledge front.

If the party shows a preference for travel using mounts, I will likely put a rank each into Ride and Handle Animal.

Class-wise, I'll be going straight Warpriest.

Stanislaw is open to being the Baron, something he never would have had the opportunity to do back home. He can recognize talent, however, and if someone else distinguishes themselves as being better suited to the role than he is, will accept a counselor's position instead.

For myself, I am fairly experienced with both PbP and PF1. I have played through this AP before face to face, but the GM made some changes, including having us wrap after book 5 due to our teamwork being good enough that we were able to punch well above our weight.

Hmm, if the two parties are chosen based on some kind of commonality among the members, Piret doesn't fit neatly into any of the criteria mentioned so far. Well, except for height, she is on the taller side for sure.

I have her alignment listed as CG but she's not a chaos gremlin. Lawful doesn't seem right either since she grew up on what would be the Rostland version of a western Wyoming sheep ranch. Maybe I should change her to NG but with some CG leanings.

Piret isn't political or interested in obtaining power. She doesn't care much about wealth either. Since her interests are scholarly I suppose she could fit well with either party. But, if there is one party that wants beautiful and highly accurate maps, that party would be the one for her!

I feel the same way about Gaxi. I plan on him being a draconic disciple, and while he isn’t evil, he is very much chaotic-not to the point where he will mess up the party dynamic.

Hmm...I'd say Amir's motivations are to gain power as an advisor to the baron and use that power for the benefit of the kingdom. (Possibly acting as diplomat if necessary).

At the start, Cassia's alignment is neutral, as her main focus is survival with the promise of gaining power in the Stolen Lands being a secondary objective. I think that down the line it's possible that she might make a move towards LN or NG as she comes to understand the value of honor and/or community, but even in the short time, she'd be inclined to work in whatever party she's in, if only for the sake of safety in numbers.

Plus, getting into conflicts with a fledgling barony is a bit less survivable than selling out your gang.

Takeda is a Lawful Neutral kind of fellow. Practicality is his motto. And what is practical right now is getting out of Riddleport as they say. He's made some enemies and needs to exit the city sooner rather than later. Aiding his country, for he is a loyalist, while removing himself from those enemies seems to be a win-win.

Takeda seems like a kindred soul to Amir; both are of the Lawful Neutral mindset.

Hold on, is that you Alistair? 'Tis I, Rasmus.

Yes, it is. Howdy do. Did you ever hear anything from GM Joseph as to why the game ended so suddenly?

Raok is more focused on for the good of his people.

He wants to help the group to gain power and thus gain himself a means of influence, but in the here and now that means making an effective team member by helping his fellows and forming relationships so that they bigguns will trust the little froggy guy.

No, I never did. It was a shame.

Two more days! Can't wait to see what groups the GM comes up with.

Hype

I love Kingmaker so I'll always jump at the chance to submit a PC for a new campaign. Here's a druid with a focus on exploration. Backstory can tie in with any Medvyed or anyone associated with Jamandi Aldori. I need to check over his numbers and change a trait since he's from a KM camp that ended early but he's basically ready to go.

Hey there! Working on a really fun Swashbuckler build for the AP. I got the sheet written up, but I've got to head to work before I can write up a backstory and finalize inventory/gold.

It's gonna be a photo finish, but.... if I'm a few minutes over the deadline, would I be able to get a tiny bit of leeway?

You have until midnight tomorrow. Post your sheet, don't worry about equipment.

Blood drips from the wound in the man’s side. A trembling hand grips his rapier tight enough to crack the leather. ”Still… not… done…!” he says before gritting his teeth and leaping forward with a shout. It’s amazing what adrenaline can do when the potions have run dry.

About Me:
Hi there! I’m Rosc, and I’ve been playing Pathfinder for many years and other tabletop RPGs for many years prior. I have experience with Pathfinder Play By Posts and I have many seasons of playing and GMing Pathfinder Society under my belt. I tend towards bombastic, flashy characters that mix mechanics and flavor for maximum enjoyment. I have experience homebrewing the game, and I also have experience freelancing for Paizo.

I have played Kingmaker for the PC all the way to the end. Thanks to my experience in Pathfinder Society, I am very familiar with ‘playing dumb’ in character for adventures where I as a player may have insight.

Backstory:
Dendrel Arcador was born to an Ulfen mother and a Taldan father. Being the child of a noble and a mercenary, he faced ridicule among his peers. This only intensified when his classmates discovered his mixed heritage, often teasing him for being of ‘savage blood.’ The child always had something to prove, which stymied his socialization.

When he came of age, he wanted nothing more than to prove himself to the world. While he took after his mother with a fondness of martial prowess, the young noble also inherited his father’s short temper. While fencing came as a natural calling, his belligerence got him in trouble with his teachers. It came to a head when a group of students conspired to humiliate him during an important duel and Dendrel responded by repeatedly socking one of them in the face.

Convinced that the world would not respect him until he proved himself for all to see, Dendrel set out to carve his own path and develop a fighting style that would allow his natural talents to excel. His first move: visit the Aldori Swordlords, a group he projects an unrequited rivalry onto, to seek an opportunity to put his developing skills to the test.

Mechanics Summary/Party Role:
Dendrel’s role will be that of an agile and durable melee tank. I plan on taking levels in Unchained Barbarian to represent his unique style of fighting, using Barbarian to enhance his durability and mobility at the cost of losing the damage from Swashbuckler levels. Parry and Riposte will be his bread-and-butter technique throughout his career.

Dendrel’s role in kingdom management is likely going to lean towards enforcement or military, though his moderate Charisma means he’ll be capable of some level of rulership if needed by the party. While the young lad wishes to prove his martial prowess to the world, he isn’t unwilling to step into a leadership role.

This fencer has scruffy blonde hair and clutches his weapon tight as he drops into an aggressive stance.

Swashbuckler Finesse At 1st level, a swashbuckler gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons, and she can use her Charisma score in place of Intelligence as a prerequisite for combat feats. This ability counts as having the Weapon Finesse feat for purposes of meeting feat prerequisites.
Panache More than just a lightly armored warrior, a swashbuckler is a daring combatant. She fights with panache: a fluctuating measure of a swashbuckler’s ability to perform amazing actions in combat. At the start of each day, a swashbuckler gains a number of panache points equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). Her panache goes up or down throughout the day, but usually cannot go higher than her Charisma modifier (minimum 1), though feats and magic items can affect this maximum. A swashbuckler spends panache to accomplish deeds (see below), and regains panache in the following ways.
Deeds Swashbucklers spend panache points to accomplish deeds. Most deeds grant the swashbuckler a momentary bonus or effect, but some provide longer-lasting effects. Some deeds remain in effect while the swashbuckler has at least 1 panache point, but do not require expending panache to be maintained. A swashbuckler can only perform deeds of her level or lower. Unless otherwise noted, a deed can be performed multiple successive times, as long as the swashbuckler has or spends the required number of panache points to perform the deed.

Future Plans (Mechanics and Character):
As mentioned above, Dendrel is starting swashbuckler and going into Unchained Barbarian to become extra hard to put down at the cost of lowering his damage potential. Rage Powers such as Raging Leaper and Accurate (or Wreckless!) Stance will be pillars of his early development. He might end up grabbing Bodyguard to assist his team’s defenses as well.

Dendrel has a loose temper, which will mostly manifest towards people who actively provoke him or enemies on the battlefield. Spending time building loyalty towards the team as well as the weight of his growing responsibilities will most likely mellow him out a little, allowing the fencing protégé with a chip on his shoulder to grow into a reliable, focused defender of allies and subjects alike.

I need to step out of consideration for this one. It was fun making a character though. Hope everyone enjoys.

Amir focuses on navigating political situations (up to a +13 diplomacy) and using mesmerist abilities to buff allies and control the battlefield (especially turning enemies against each other).

" Also a small blurb about your projected development regarding character classes. "

Definitely going to progress full druid, Green Faith initiate, may prestige to Green Faith Acolyte (though not sure of that part, thematically cool but at least one mechanically useless level ability-wise)

Thanks so much for this recruitment GM Galahad!!

I am submitting a Warpriest follower of Erastil that would primarily fulfill the role of an Archer with secondary support roles as a healer and buffer. Karda’s role in the campaign would be most likely a counselor and not the Baron.

About me :

Again, thanks for starting this game - I know how much dedication a GM needs. ;-) I’ve been a tabletop gamer for most of my life, starting with AD&D back in my teens, and now in my forties I’ve settled comfortably into Pathfinder 1st Edition as my favorite system.

I really enjoy rich character immersion, moral depth, and long-form campaigns like the Adventure Paths that let stories grow over time.

I love beginning at level one and seeing both the characters and the party evolve naturally through challenges, victories, and failures alike.

For me, roleplaying is at its best when the story feels alive, and of course shaped by the people around the table.

Karda - Character Background :

Brief Summary

Karda was born from the darkness that her mother had to experience and painful experiments as a slave in Egorian by minions of Asmodeus, but through the faith of Erastil she found freedom first and later purpose and a sense of belonging.

Freed from a life of torment, she was raised among farmers and hunters who taught her that real strength lies not in domination, but in protecting and guiding others. Years of service as a Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain turned her into a disciplined archer and devout servant of the Elk Father, balancing faith with martial skill.

Now, drawn by visions of her mother’s homeland and whispers of Erastil’s call, Karda is willing to journey to the Stolen Lands for the Aldori Swordlords to help bring safety and order to this region and its people. She believes civilization and wilderness must coexist — bound together by community, law, and compassion. She is quite and steadfast, so that Karda doesn’t fight for glory, but to ensure no one else endures the suffering that she once knew.

Detailed Background

I. Born into slavery and sacrifice in the church of Asmodeus in Egorian

Karda was born in the capital of Cheliax: Egorian, the City of Thorns. Her mother and many other women were used as the toys of an Asmodean sorceress that regularly experimented by cross-breeding tortured slaves with the planar creatures that the sorceress brought to the material plane. Karda and her brother in particular are the unfortunate children of a slave that was forced to copulate again and again with celestial outsiders. During conception her mother was killed and brought back to life so often that Karda’s life force - the product of dark rituals of torture, death and rebirth - still has a link to the positive energy that carried her mother to eventually give birth.

Karda’s mother was a broken woman and although she gave him love and tried to secretly teach him about her roots in the Stolen Lands, she was not able to endure the dark rituals and eventually died so that she could not prevent the Asmodean indoctrination that Karda and her brother faced day to day. As Egorian is the heart of the faith of Asmodeus, and the largest concentration of devil worshipers can be found there, the allegiance of the sorceress to the church of Asmodeus was not surprising, and thus this led to the young slaves of the sorceress to be tortured and ‘educated’ in the The Midnight Temple in Egorian.

Karda can still remember the Black Altar in the Temple of Asmodeus that resembled a devil with large wings and horns and which was the place where many of her siblings had to prove their ultimate loyalty by volunteering! The sacrifice of nine slaves was made to the deity at midnight on the first day of every ninth week. The wings closed around the sacrifices to hide the killing blow, and no corpse remained when they opened.

Although Karda was a worshiper of Asmodeus, seeing her ‘family members’ die made Karda realize that sometimes rules only served those in power. Being asked to give up something dear as a sacrifice, the life of a newly born or older ‘sibling’, triggered something inside of him that made him emotionally connect to the community of slaves around him! She was only a boy at that time but nonetheless she started to revolt against her oppressors and the wish to gain freedom for her brother and the only family she knew grew stronger every day.

~

II. Freedom and joining the community of Erastil in Rostland

Maybe it was fate or maybe it was Old Deadeye’s plan but one day a concerted strike on the evil sorceress’ hideout by the Bellflower Network and Pathfinder Society led to the freedom of all slaves including Karda himself and her brother. During the fight the evil sorceress and almost all those that had hurt Karda and her family were killed by the hands of the slaves and the agents that were trying to break the slave’s chains. The satisfaction that Karda felt at that time was her first taste of the connection that can be built with others and the strength that this provides to all those that are part of a community! After that the liberated slaves were able to see the world outside of the hell that they called life for the first time.

It was initially hard for Karda, her brother and the other slaves to reclaim their new life but it was a human follower of Erastil from Brevoy, Stan Wol, who was part of the group that liberated him that really took Karda and her brother under her wing. Stan over time became almost like a father because Karda and her brother had simply never met anyone who opened their eyes and showed them the truth — that Asmodeus does not care for her followers, and that there are other deities, organizations and communities that do. This also led to Karda opening her eyes to the lessons of the Elk Father that Stan taught him.

In the years after her escape Karda and her brother stayed together with Stan in Rostland which makes up the southern half of the nation of Brevoy. Here a small group from different races prayed to Erastil and lived off the land as a strong community that raised Karda and her brother with the simple sensibilities that hard work wins well-deserved gains, and that it is important to uphold charity and compassion, and that she has to value personal and familial honor. Although there were several occasions that separated Karda and her brother from Stan, Karda was always nervous and wanted Stan to remain near him.

~

III. Living the life of a soldier in Molthune and choosing her own path

So when Stan decided that it was time to move on, Karda and her brother followed. First they spent years in Qadira where Stan, Karda and her brother aided a small community of Erastil to build a future and battle the enemies of the faith. Later Stan decided to return to her own homeland in Molthune with a dream to aid this rising power on the shores of Lake Encarthan by enlisting in the national army. Here Karda and her brother received their formal training as Molthuni arsenal chaplains and became warpriests. In the Arsenal District in Korholm Stan, Karda and her brother were part of an elite force that bolstered Molthune’s military by focusing on the militant aspects of their god.

But eventually Karda realized that she had to start following her own goals! She had a heartfelt desire to return to her roots and although she did not remember much about her mother, she still remembered her stories of the Stolen Land where she grew up with her parents and siblings in a secluded farm. Her brother had other plans and thus they had to say goodbye for the first time!

Karda has now decided to move in the direction of her mother’s birthplace. She does not know why but the thought of the Stolen Lands floods her mind more and more with visions of her mother. Memories about her that she cannot associate to anything that she knows about her are somehow pushed into her consciousness by a force that she does not understand. Karda is uncertain about what is going on, but she has heard that much is about to change in the region with the focus that the Aldori Swordlords are putting on starting an expedition. And somehow something inside of him - maybe even her connection to her god - is pointing at this mission!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Karda - Projected Development :
To be honest, I’m planning to let Karda just remain a Warpriest with a focus on Archery feats, so that this is a very simple build.

I really hope that I have given you all the information that you need! This looks great so would be honored to play with you all! :-D

Also though Druid isn't usually primary healer, in addition to being able to use the heal skill to heal HP damage, I plan to buff that by taking Incredible Healer at level 5 to use the Heal skill to heal HP up to the amount of the roll for the heal check.

Far too many great characters. Plenty of stories that can be told. The to echo the above, GM Galahad has a hard choice ahead.

Looking forward to it! Great characters everyone!

Well. Best if luck for those applied and even more so for our GM

Good luck, everyone!

That list looks about right to me, but, while their player(s) could correct me, I thought Amir, the mesmerist, might have been an alternative submission to Albert, the wizard? That might make it a marginally easier choice. :) (Both were neat, and very different characters.)

Edited to add: ah, found the post. I don't mean to be officious, just trying to help a teensy bit.

Hello GM, thanks a lot for the list of submissions!

I just wanted to point out that you listed Karda as “Divine”, although I believe that Karda is a Ranged Combatant first. She is a Warpriest who’ll take primarily Archer feats and is more Ranged Fighter than Cleric. :-D

Have a great week everyone!

Bright ears is a half-elf. Apologies it was unclear, Its written in his profile but not at the top of the stat block I copied. He is kindred raised, half-elf raised by a half-elf family.

Looking forward to tomorrow to see what parties you choose.

This is indeed correct. Amir just felt a bit more thematically appropriate, given the other character submissions.

good luck all!

Good Luck!

Good luck, everyone!

GM, I would also like to point out that Stanislaw is more Archer first as opposed to Divine.

First, thank you everyome for the interest and characters. This was very hard, even with the expanded selection.

Second, both areas are very trap heavy and I was surprised to see no Rogue submissions, except one. I have an opening for a trap specialist, anyone not selected can resubmit such a character in the next couple of days if they would like to still play and do so with that type of character.

Third, of those selected, I will be sending PMs for minor tweaks or suggestions. Mostly that is my fault because I failed to make certain limits or restrictions known at the start.

Finally, I will keep those not selected on a list as first opportunity people to contact for replacement of lost players. Also, I have made two parties of 8, instead of 6.

Here is the list (we will split into seperate groups after the prologue chapter):

Pyros
Veniir
Meredith
Cassia
Daxiana
Aelbourne
Piret
Athrehon
Elenaril
Elina
Gaxi
Ikit
Sven
Maevus
Stanislaw

Again, thank you everyone else, it was a very hard decision to make.

Congratulations to those selected! Maybe we'll see each other at some other table sometime! Have fun!

For what it's worth, GM, as far as trap specialists go, Tsia was built with plans to take Disable Device from jump, and I could make adjustments to boost her Perception.

Magic traps would still be a problem until things like (potentially used/partially-charged) wands of Aram Zey's focus make their way into her curious hands, but if you think that might work... ;)

If that's not specialized enough, or Tsia just doesn't seem like a good fit for your campaign, fair enough, and I wish you all the best nonetheless. :)

Grand Lodge

congrats all! good luck in your campaign

Thank you for the selection GM.

I will be editing his profile tonight to match the posted submission
