She says with a twinge of pain. Now getting the chains ready, laying them across the ground. "As the days count down these can become more pronounced. Finally once your time is up you start to suffer a shutdown of your physical faculties, resulting in paralysis and presumably death since you can no longer function even to eat or drink." She uncoils one chain in front of each person. A single length of chain. 12 links and one open manacle each. "Once you enter this state you will only be able to act in order to directly fulfill your agreement, your mind will only be able to think thoughts of it and your legs will only move in the direction of your destination. Food, sustenance, and safety will mean nothing to you. Even once you reach it and fulfill your agreement, too long spent in such a condition can have long-lasting effects. She gets to the last set of chain and manacle. Laying it down in front of Izorshi. LeRose adds the additional links like she has with all the rest but pauses at 10 links apparently having run out. "I should have a couple extra in here somewhere" LeRose say a bit lightheartedly, with a kind smile not seen as of yet. She reaches into her sleeve. ![]() The group moves on, salvaging what they can from the wreckage. The giant raven is badly damaged and is reduced to walking along side its master. Le'Rose retrieves her sword but does not contest Doon taking the immovable rod. It takes Doon but a few quick seconds of observing the device to figure it out. Pressing the button he dislodges it from its floating position, then after a quick mathematic calculation in his head given rough estimations and his understanding of the device figures out its maximum tolerance. "...Round bout 8,000 pounds..." LeRose raises an eyebrow, impressed. She gathers everyone, and all the supplies together on a rise just beyond the pass. The group gets a good look at their surroundings. Mostly craggy mountains winding their way through forest land. With a flick of her wrist LeRose produces a map. "We are a week away from Lepidstadt on foot, even if my familiar recovered he would not be able to transport all of us." Le'Rose sighs "Personally I believe you all, but my duty is unbreakable... Though some bending may be in order. I have a degree of flexibility that I am choosing to exercise. It's not against my compact to take on another contract at the same time I am pursuing my current contract, unless it interferes, in which case I suffer considerably." Le'Rose pulls thin chains and manacles out from he pouch. "These chains are created for those willing to turn themselves in. Only someone who is willing to give themselves in can wear them. It places a spell on the user requiring them to turn themselves in within the time limit or face consequences. Other then that the chain disappears and will not hinder you physically." "I will agree to help you track and capture the Beast, and also act as advocate in court if you will agree to take on these chains so that I may avoid suffering from helping you." She pulls out additional links of chain and begins to add them to the parts that already hang from the manacles. "Twelve days should be more then enough. What do you say?" ![]()
![]() OK, wow that kicked my ass. I'm back now. Doon, I'm sorry to hear. I will go ahead and soft autopilot you until you feel it's right to come back. Tangent: I think the greatest thing about technology is its ability to spread empathy. Random people can come together in an experience and genuinely feel for each other. People can talk about all the hate and miss-information out there but it's worth it for being able to connect. /tangent ![]()
![]() Just thought I would refocus us. I noticed that we got a bit off track. I am going to send out messages to some of the players who have dropped off the grid. Gerald I appreciate you always keeping me informed on when you are not able to post, so thank you. I wouldn't mind a smaller group (Generally like to start large because of the turn over) and because of the upcoming merger. Which may take a bit because of how long chapter 1 is and how much b%@~~+&@ I have to shovel in order to get them to you guys. ![]()
![]() The group gathers up. Cutting LeRose down, letting her get back on her feet. She shoots Izorshi an steely glance but after that moment of tension she relaxes and starts to gather her things. Just a ways down the path you find the giant raven, stuck in webbing, the corpse of the giant spider laying on top of it slowly dissipating like all summoned creatures do. The raven makes a noise, like a soft whimpering sob "Get... this thing... off of me... I have already vomited twice." The ravens regurgitation is pooled up on the ground, a smaller black raven, Muni, floating on top. That raven snidely responds back to the giant one caught in the webbing. "Oh, you're still alive? Damn, I was hoping I had been cut out! ![]()
![]() OK here is an update. I had no idea how long this first chapter was until I started reading it. What the other group is doing (Beginning chapter 2) is much much much shorter. I am going to have to take a hatchet to this chapter and pull some BS. Be prepared to be hit with an Empowered Ray of Plot. BTW Is there any players who have dropped? A good idea might be to have those that have dropped stay behind for your obligations and then the active players can jump to join the other group. ![]()

The cleric was using powerword break to destroy round being fired, we he did so with the hydra blatter it ignited the whole thing bathing him in flame. ![]() Excellent. Feel free to continue role playing. In terms of making it more organic I will leave the options to you. I can assume that you all have been in enough games to see hooks. Rather then grabbing onto them you could just get the hint of the direction they lead and bypass them. Example: You are told of bandits (It's always bandits) in the area who have raided local villages killing the militias and stealing the food, and are given their location. You are given a map of the area with obvious points where you can set up an ambush. You are also given an uniform worn by the bandit taken from a corpse. Inside the box ideas, these are things you will ether assume from previous play experience or though knowledge checks. -Set up an ambush in the woods
or... You could go further outside the box, like.
If you have a crazy idea just ask. ![]()
![]() just checking in to assure you that I am still working on this. I am trying to read through your backlog of posts to get a good idea about your characters. If you are interested in helping. You could each give a "Story so far" from your characters point of view to give me an idea on how to play off of them and also understand what's important to them so I don't leave anything out while skimming through posts. ![]()
![]() Awesome, that is the path I would nudge you and and it is the one the current dialog is leading to but don't ever be afraid to try and steer the story. If you go somewhere I did not expect I will just have to accommodate and leave out hooks in case you want to get back to where the adventure says you should about be. In fact I have planned ahead to give you cookies that can do just that. -Geralds shadow teleport powers may eventually allow the entire party to traverse land quickly by passing through a shadowy (and possibly insanity inducing) world. -Nagual can see the ghosts of the recently dead and hold onto them, allowing important NPC's to die and not kill the quest. -Belor has his shield which can give him pleasant nudges to what the "proper" path for him is, though it will be cryptic like any fortune. -And finally, depending on what cookie Doon chose he will be able to make incredible deductions, allowing him to piece things together through lore and logic. With all of these as safety nets you should feel confident in exploring your space in the game. If I constantly drive you guys into corners then I may as well be writing just for myself. The game is for your fun... though I have fun too, just in other, more evil, ways. Feel free to chew the scene for a bit. I have a lot of reading to do with folding the others in. Originally I only needed the bare outline to plan all of my home-brew stuff around but now it's going to get a lot more bookish. In a way it makes it better for you because I will have my tricks as well as ready made stuff from the adventure. ![]()
![]() Ok well something came up. That original group of Carrion Crown kinda imploded and now they are out a GM. I want to try and adsorb the players because loosing a game sucks. I have to ask two favors #1 is taking on new players. Though we have some inactive, this would still bump us up quite a bit. #2 In order to do it quickly I may ask to rail-rode you a bit. The current situation you are in can be done whatever way you want. You could allower her to take you in, let her take you in but on the way try to capture the "Beast", you could kill her, mame her so badly it would take a long time to heal, aputate limbs, lock her in a cave with enough food and water. Pretty much anything you demented people can think of. But in order to make this happen I may ask that you lean to a particular option, would that be OK? ![]()
![]() Luckily my group is at a point where we can easily detour into a quicker grouping. Let me talk it through with them and see if they would be OK with a bit of plot forcing to allow the two groups to come together. I also need to catch up with your groups postings to see where you are at exactly. Frankly I never even read chapter 1 except for a quick glance over because my group wasn't going to be involved in it. ![]()
![]() She simply repeats "I am not the jury, I am not the judge, I am the warden. Where those found guilty run, LeRose follows..." She sighs "If your intent is to simply make your way back to face justice then I will accompany you, though I cannot guarantee that you will receive anything close to a trial or even see the judge before you are taken to the gallows." ![]()
![]() How many active players do you have now? I think I have a few dropouts in my group and can incorporate and merge going forward, though it may be choppy as I have homebrewed a lot of stuff in order to have my campaign work in the background of the Carrion Crown campaign. I don't like the idea of piling on a second campaign so I would need time to prep and may need you all to skip a significant portion of the beginning of this game because I want to merge you ASAP and the other group is already working on setting up the second chapter. ![]()
![]() She adresses Ark first."You did have a trial, but instead of facing your charges you ran." LeRose gives a sideways glance to Izorshi, ignoring the threat as if she already assumed she would die anyway. Then finally facing Doon, whom she treats with respect. "Warrants can only be rescinded by the Lepidstadt Judge Daramid who issued the warrant. You have already been convicted. It would take extraordinary means in order for him to reconsider." LeRose pauses. "If you bring him something, he wants more he may grant you a retrial, forgiving your absence. Though the only thing that man cares about is justice, you would have to bring in someone pretty high profile." Lanik gulps "Oh no... There is only one thing more despised in Lepidstadt then cultists, it's... eh... 'The Beast'" His face is white, and he is wiping the sweat off of one of his palms against his trousers. ![]()
![]() This is the part of the game I love the most. Moral ambiguity time. I will say there isn't really a necessarily 'correct' option here, nor is there one that will doom you. You have to decide on how you want to do things. Now a lot of you have really useful cookies that I gave you for just such events if you need a nudge or a clue. Though the clues may just lead to more indecision. Muhahahahah ![]()
![]() LeRose screams shattering the mask apart. Revealing a worn but proud face with brilliant red hair and deep green piercing eyes. "I am no ones puppet! When the LeRose make a contract we agree with our very souls. This is how we insure justice is upheld. One can not 'shake off' a Geas that they have agreed to. There are only two ways this ends, I take you in or the warrant is rescinded." Lanik sheepishly speaks up "Or we kill her..." LeRose only raises an eyebrow "...Do your really think that will end it?" ![]()
![]() Izorshi sees a complex and intricate pattern of magic running throughout Le'Roses system. It runs through her spinal column and down into her heart. It's too complex to make out the exact spell, but what Izorshi is sure of is that not only is it compelling Le'Rose but to a large degree it is the source of her magical potency. ![]()
![]() "I mean everyone, you, the cult, my prot-" Under the mast you hear a groan, and LeRose convulses, legs wobbling and her body now hangs by the webbing encasing her. He moves closer to LeRose. ![]()

The horses are badly mangled and will die soon, they say nothing intelligible. doon:
So many stories of LeRose, all with inconsistencies. Some in which he is a master of martial arts. Some in which he is a crafty arch mage, and some where he has boundless strength.
His actions in these stories also seems to vary greatly. In some he is a thoughtless tyrant who cares little if innocent people get hurt while in other stories he specifically goes out of his way to limit damage. The only consistencies seem to be the descriptions of the armor itself, the mask that is his signature and the reputation to be tanatious about hunting his target. Though Doon, arranging all the accounts chronologically in his head, makes some sense of this. The variations seem to come in phases with periods describing the brutal martial artist (20 year spread), then giving way to the benevolent mage (50 year spread) and then indifferent juggernaut of strength (30 year spread). Though this LeRose doesn't seem to exactly match any of the other descriptions. Doon, you are not close enough to grab the rod, the momentum carried all of you 80 feet further down. LeRose seems to be having trouble breathing, having to pull up the mask just enough to allow the blood to drain out through the mouth, then deftly pulling a vile to drink back down. 1d4 ⇒ 4 After swallowing LeRose is able to inhale a gasp of air. ![]() Well we are on a new round and things are changing quite a bit. it's 1d6 of wisdom damage and a -5 to your next attempt. The wagon barrels forward towards the bounty hunter, racing behind the raven who is returning at top speed to its master. Le'Rose doesn't budge. In face the figure stretches casually, until the last moment. A moment before impact the bounty hunter makes a hand motion and the sword flies back to its masters hand. In the same moment Lanik, the mysterious passenger pops the lid and the scroll case casts off an intensely bright assortment of spells that race out and in a streak of light descend on LeRose. The light bursts around Le'Rose, crackling and forming into shape, with tendrals of light running off and interconnecting. The light fades quickly revealing a giant spider-silk web. The raven sputters in mid air, its eye going wide, it gives off a shrill squeak that someone confronted with their greatest fear would produce, as a spider looming behind the web jumps and pounces on the raven and they tumble downhill. LeRose is in the midst of the web, sword arm completely tangled along with legs and torso. Only Le'Rose's off hand is free. Though the bounty hunter remains surprisingly calm. Gerald feels the same force again begin to bend the world around him. The same force that he felt earlier when Le'Rose disappeared from the raven and appeared on the ground. spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 Gerald realizes Le'Rose is going to teleport into the wagon. Except even as space bends another spell goes off within the web. spellcraft 15:

Now the bounty hunters body language shows the worry that the mask cannot convey. There is struggling to break free, panic and finally Le'Roses free hand reaches back and pulls out a rod. Placing it in front and pressing the small red button on top. When LeRose's hand pulls away the rod remains suspended in the air. Ark Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 2 The wagon hits the rod at full force, breaking the horses harness and at the same time jerking both of them into a tumble of kicking legs and broken bones. The wagon is cleaved in two by the rod only now still connected by the fram along where the canvas used to be. The two section continue on through the webs. The hole in the center created by the rod is not big enough for Le'Rose to fit through, at least not completely. The splinters and fragments of wood tear at each side of Le'Rose's body, ripping the armor off of the bounty hunters sword arm, leaving behind torn flesh the vaguely resembles an arm. The wounds are bright red. The arm hands afterword, useless now. LeRoses body is pockmarked with large splinters imbedded. The rest of the armor has been torn to shreds and even the mask now has a chunk missing along the side, with long red hair slipping out through the crack. There is an almost inhuman scream emitted by Le'Rose as the distorted voice mixes with the real one from under the mask. Everyone from the wagon, watches from above as them seem to slowly float down. DC10 perception:
You notice you are falling abnormally slow and that in fact you are wearing a ring you never noticed before, it is glowing slightly and has a feather engraved on it. You all land on the ground with a slight bump, only receiving damage from the initial impact. You are 80 feet from Le'Rose. ![]()
![]() The raven looms above, with Geralds summoned bird pestering it, it pecks but the raven doesn't respond. Seeing that it's wind does little to wreck the wagon it swoops back around. Dive bombing towards Le'Rose Gerald remembers climbing into the wagon. Everyone inside looking nervous but determined. The passenger who currently is holding the scroll was talking to the driver. "It kind of freaks me out to be holding something so powerful. If you see Le'Rose or the raven just signal me. I was told this had a surprise for both of them." The only other memory he has is the raven Muni, squawking and screaming something in the night, outside the wagon, right before the sound of large beating wings silenced it. Meanwhile Doon can remember putting on the cloak and feeling a bit of disgust. Then looking down at the body he pulled it off of. He could not tell if the thing was living or undead, its features twisted. Everyone else from the wagon was there as well as the man who is currently holding the scroll. He speaks to you... Lanik was his name.. at least you think it was. "I know it's disturbing, but we have been set up. Somehow they got by Le'Roses checkpoints. Soon they'll be after us. I think I know someone who can get us to safety." The blinding headache returns breaking up the rest of the memory into fragments. Then his face shows an expression of surprise, pulling out a scroll case, embossed with a spiderweb around it. The lid has a quick release, and looks like what a spell-sword or combat wizard would use. Trying to think of memories pings your heads with pain. The deeper you dig the harder the pain. You can try to push your memory harder with a will save but if you fail (and I'm not even going to say just how hard it is) then you may take some wisdom damage The wagon races forward and LeRose breaks stance. Stabbing the sword casually into the rock wall. Le'Rose's hands retreating into the cloak. The figure turns from a combat stance to something almost casual. ![]()

Izorshi can see their is a tiny bit of magic hiding in the stitching though only visible when the cloak is turned out. It's a subtle Arcane Mark. The man, probably in his late 20's is wide eyed. ![]() While we are on the subject of flavor. Don't feel the need to default to my vision. I control the style and feel of everything around you but you still have agency over your own character. I don't run this game for myself (Though I do have fun) I run this so the players can enjoy it and we can all help each other tell a great story. For instance, I'm in another game as a summoner. Summoners get semi-permanent summoned partners and the text specifically says they can look like whatever you want them to so mine looked like a thin clockwork golem who acted like an overprotective mother. On top of that the GM let me describe any other summons as being made of the same clockwork robotics. The effect was that none of the rules had to be bent but the whole concept become much much more interesting with just a little flavor. The cookies are supposed to be a unique thing that you posses and no one else in the world has. They are things that not only will set you apart but will also grow with you so I want you to have control over them and make them your own in order to best express your idea of your character. sorry if I get too meta and game theorist on you. Once per day you may set up an area to investigate. This area can be no bigger than 50'x50'x30'. In this area all "Take 10"'s are now done in half the time and "Take 20's" do not assume many failures. Normally on a take 20 Quote:
This ability assumes that the time is taken to carefully think through the situation an assess all risks and options before trying. have fun picking. Trying to give you guys stuff that helps play the flavor of your character or gives you something that can help showcase your character. ----- Ark You get Boots of EdgeWalk (Don't bother looking it up I just made it up this morning. There might be something else called that, I didn't look.) The boots allow you to step up to 5-feet off a ledge before falling down. Magic extends the edge out enough for you to stand on. Think of it like a force that crates floor below your feet. Caution: that 5 feet needs to be attached to the surface your stepping off of and your weight is still being applied to the edge. So for instance if you use it on the edge of a crumbling wall then your weight may break off that edge or if the wall falls then the magic will too. This also works in traversing difficult terrain. But sense this is a less difficult task for the magic it works at 10-feet. This only works for negating difficult terrain cause by obstruction under foot and not by other things like crowds and high wind. Ark probably just figured this out about his boot just now as the carriage cracks and his is able to still have good footing. I'll let you flavor what they look like and if the effect has a visual. ![]()
![]() I don't like inititive in PbP because of how it slows everything down. Unless it's a situation where it adds enjoyment (Like two characters realizing at the same time that they need to keep each other and start reaching for weapons) then I would like players to go first and in whatever order. Is everyone cool with that? ![]()
![]() The horses nay loudly. Ark:
Ark could understand what the animals said but like most animals when it came to a stressful situation their own thoughts tended to fall by the wayside."What happening? Where are I? OW OW Ow, my leg! So hungry! Monty and Gerald could see the spell but a half second after the thought connected it was already too late. Monty and Geral:
Summon Undead III & Quickened Summon Undead II Objects start slamming into the canvas, hard to make out a number. Perhaps 6 or 8. A lightning flash sends a glow around the canvas, lighting up inhuman silhouettes. One large figure slammed into the front bench. Nagual Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Nagual's natural hunting reflexes take over. He shifts back, watching as the creature falling from the sky slams into the bench sending the corpse of the driver off the edge, and catching Ark and Monty in the splintery mess. Damage to Ark, Monty and Nagual: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 Note: the creature also receive this. It's falling damage. Nagual you succeeded so you only take half. The creature peers out from the twisted crater where the driving bench used to be, now a pile of twisted wood and splinters. It's body looks rotten, discolored and falling off in many places. The flesh looks like a corpse found in a river where the skin adsorbs too much water and turns spongy, but the body is also covered in coral, wrapping around it like armor. The creature opens its mouth to roar bot nothing but water spills out. attacks: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Fleshless arms rake in, attacking from the canvas. ???? damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The undead omoniously make no sound but the flapping of great wings can be wear now above the wagon. ![]()
![]() Oh god ark, I think in my mind we went from Frank Millar noir looking scene to an anime with one simple spell. Complicated post ahead but I will have it up today. I love the interaction, keep it up guys. I'm not the best about posting on weekends but I will try to warn you when I'm going to be busy. This weekend was just unusually busy with my 4 month old getting shots, a little sick, and teething all at the same time. Even with both me and my wife it gets intense!
