Here you go! I didn't list them on her profile as she hasn't gotten to a high enough level to get any yet. She will get the evangelist boons starting next level. Planning on picking Blink for the SLA since the other two are just kinda eh. Collective Vision is going to be laughably bad for her b/c she will only be able to use it once per day, but once a day maze on a paladin at level 14? I'll take it
I considered sentinel for the amazing paladin boons, but I'd be nerfing her healing, which is what I wanted to focus on. I also am addicted to skill points and evangelist fixes that issue!

So I decided to wrap up the interlude with a series of 3 or 4 posts instead of just one. I just posted the first one.
If Zelda or Naught want to post, feel free. Otherwise, that's fine too, and I'll just wrap up things myself before we get to book 3 on the 10th.
For the new players: This wraps up a roleplaying interlude I began after our previous GM left the group. Your characters are not there, but we'll get you in soon enough. I have other plans for you, he he he... :)

Alrighty, got my actual profile together now. Made a few minor changes to my gear (more armor, less toys).
GM Kartari |
Posted a couple more.
Zelda, if you haven't gone on vacation yet, the question for you is: does Zelda tell her sister about the changeling nature of her friends, or about encountering the hag that sought to bring them into the fold of hagdom?
My assumption is that Zelda keeps that unspoken. Keyla is on a mission to hunt down hags, and has shown a burning hatred for them already. Zelda may justifiably fear that revealing this would... complicate things, to say the least.
But I don't want to steamroll your decision as a player. You are free to have Zelda be completely honest with her. Please let me know either way, thanks!

And one more, with a twist. :o :)
Naught, the same principle goes for you. I believe I portrayed your character accurately, but I don't want to steamroll your character into doing anything you think is off. Feel free to correct me.

No worries. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's been a long time coming for Naught the character, LOL. :)
GM Kartari |
Alright, I started a day early. :)
So here's the plan. I'm going to post three separate timelines. I posted the first one so far, which is only for the three original characters (Ali, Naught, and Zelda). Sookie & Christoph, have no fear - I'll post threads for each of you shortly as well. These separate timelines will converge once your characters meet up in the next week or so (in real time).
Also, now's a good time to make sure your stat blocks conform to the specs I've mentioned in the House Rules (see HR-9 in the Campaign tab). Offhand, I've only noticed that Sookie needs to add her CMD (including flat-footed CMD), and Naught is missing her flat-footed CMD (I just abbreviate it as FCMD, so feel free to do likewise or not); otherwise, everyone looks great.
Finally, for now, I've updated the Campaign tab to include maps of Ustalav and Lepidstadt. As we will soon move into the Shudderwood, I'll update the maps then, but for now do note that you're still in Lepidstadt.

Looking forward to getting going. :)
GM Kartari |
I'll be back in an hour or so to continue Sookie's and Christoph's adventures.
In the meantime... Zelda? Naught? No pressure, I just want to make sure you both realize that we started.

No worries, Naught. Like I wrote, I just wanted to make sure you and Zelda both realized that we started, LOL.
And Jeez, hope you get enough sleep. :)
GM Kartari |
Ok Zelda. I'll move it along then, assuming you all head to the magistrate's.
GM Kartari |
Sorry, I took too long and it's time for bed, LOL. I'll definitely progress the thread "The Invitation" for Ali, Naught and Zelda tomorrow.
GM Kartari |
Okay, I'll update The Invitation soon. I'll then move the other two threads along.
Once your paths all cross, I'll pick up the pace, and write briefer posts. I'm trying to ensure that everyone at least knows what they need to know before getting into the game more deeply; while it would be enjoyable, I'm not assuming that our new players are reading all 80+ pages of the Gameplay thread. Sorry if I'm making things a bit too wordy, though.

No prob! I’ll get my response up tonight. My wife and I have been running around doing stuff for Pride month and i needed an introvert day to recover energy
GM Kartari |
Awesome. :)
If the new players are interested in reading parts of the past posts at least, this roleplay segment took place between books 1 and 2. I've enjoyed many moments in this game over the years, but this segment stands out to me as one of the more memorable times.

I approve this message. :)
...
Not sure how much I'll post tonight (just logged in now but I'm already sleepy...), but I'll try to get responses up by tomorrow night.

Zelda, I just realized something about your stats. I don't think you gave yourself any background skill ranks?
Assuming your favored class bonus is +1 rank per level, you get 84 skill ranks (= 12 per level x 7 levels); but you're missing the 14 background skill ranks (= 2 per level x 7 levels) in your profile?
Here's a link to the background skill rules, if you're unfamiliar with them. To put it simply, just add 14 ranks to any of the skills in the table under Background Skills (not under Adventuring Skills); and remember as you level up to gain +2 more background skill ranks per level.
It's up to you which skills. But if you are interested in suggestions, given your court experience and apparent new title, some ranks in Profession (barrister) would make sense. Craft (jewelry) would be another good choice, given Zelda was a jeweler in the past.
That's actually what prompted me to look... I wanted to see if you actually put ranks in Profession (barrister), LOL.
Zelda Lamplighter |
I will add jewel crafting and barrister to my profile. Its not letting me update it pn my phone right now. I will h add have to change it on my computer later.

No problem, Zelda.
Busy weekend. I'll try to post tomorrow night; worst case scenario Monday.
LOL at the esquire conversation. Zelda got it: Judge Daramid recognizes Zelda as a barrister (a lawyer). Though I don't think it's too far off to see her as a knight, too. Of a sort. :)

So, on double-checking Japanese greetings, I just realized I was using the wrong way to address Sookie. I thought -chan meant Miss, but looks like it means child instead, LOL. I guess that sorta works, but seems more demeaning than I had intended. I think -san is a formal way to address a Mr. or Ms. from what I just found, so I went with that now. Let's pretend Tamako has been referring to Sookie-san all along. Sorry for any confusion.
To add, obviously I know nothing about the Japanese language (though I have studied Japanese history in college). So I just used Google Translate's English-Japanese to mimic Tien; please forgive any mistakes if you do happen to know Japanese.

I do not know Japanese, but my wife does! My wife majored in Japanese language and literature, actually. I asked them and they said that -chan is definitely childish, but it's not strictly wrong but it is unusual and could be used reasonably in certain circumstances. Every relationship is unique, after all! Think of it more like in English when you add an "-ie" sound at the end of someone's name to make it sound more diminuative. But -san would more likely be what Tamako uses.
GM Kartari |
That's awesome. I'd love to learn Japanese, one of these days... :)

Sorry for the delay. I'll try to move things along later tonight, possibly tomorrow... It has been quite the exhausting week for me.

Hi everyone! It’s Pride weekend here in SF so the wife and I will be extra busy so my posting will be limited to nonexistent until Sunday evening. Thanks for the understanding!
GM Kartari |
Thanks Naught, and enjoy, Sookie.
I'll add a couple more posts tomorrow.
GM Kartari |
Sorry for the delays. I'm going to advance everyone's threads shortly.

A note on accents and dialects in Ustalav and their real world counterparts.
I've long thought of Ustalav's culture and language as being influenced by Germanic, Slavic, and other southeastern European cultures and accents. I therefore regard western Ustalav natives as having more of a German accent (i.e. Lepidstadt seems related to Leipzig to me, a real world city in Germany; and "-stadt" means city in German), and eastern Ustalav native speakers as having Slavic or Romanian accents, including Russian in some parts; with a mix in central Ustalav. Since reading Sookie's back story a few weeks back, it occurred to me that there are English-sounding city and town names in Ustalav as well. So in keeping with Sookie's self-described British accent, and since she's from Caliphas in southern Ustalav, I'm regarding southern Ustalav as having more of a British-inspired accent and culture. Hence, Judge Daramid's "southern Ustalav" accent.

Alrighty, ready to join up with the group.

That's exactly how I do it. I base the accent on whichever culture is being referenced, as Ustalav plays fast and loose with cultures, as it's trying to fit all of the "gothic" horror tropes into one country. And a lot of our cultural touchstones with gothic horror are British or set in Britain, so I throw that those accents in there with Slavic and Germanic.
I think of Caliphas as London, personally, so I proceeded accordingly.
PS: I'm catching up on the thread right now and will post either tonight or tomorrow at the latest

Naught, your profile looks like it's not been updated since shortly after we started the game 5 years ago, LOL. I surmise you're using your own character sheet, but it would be helpful to me if you at least list your current gear in particular? At least your armor, weapons, magic items and other items of significant worth. Thanks!

No prob, Naught. I'm sure it's all Cosmo's fault. ;)
I'll wait another day or so for Zelda to join in the introductions.
