It’s a +1 on weapons but a +3 on armor, so that’s probably what you are thinking of.
I’m not particularly interested in RPing out the mechanics of buying horses. Can we just say we asked around with our nice diplomacy scores and found some?

GM Kartari |

Maybe a nice +2 or +3 agile breastplate armor for Naught with that 15k gold remaining? Or a chain shirt or leather lamellar if you don't want to slow down? She can always keep it hidden under her brown coat.
Maybe a masterwork handaxe or throwing axe for a backup weapon, and a masterwork composite shortbow when needed?

GM Kartari |

Certainly Sookie...
Actually though, Zelda probably knows: she's well-trained in local knowledge. She could take 10 and beat that check, so let's assume she knows and tells everyone.

Wow we have had this exact conversation before...
And Ahhh that’s what tripped me and the last GM up then, a +4 weapon was the pricing we were using and why Naught had no gear. Will get to *covers Ali’s ears* shopping soon.

Christoph Metzger |

I'm also cool not RPing buying horses. What time of day is it by now? That'll determine Christoph's reaction as far as starting travel or not.

GM Kartari |

Hmpf! Fine. The horses didn't want to RP with you guys anyway. :p ;)
Seriously, not a problem. Feel free to point out whenever I get into the minutiae too much, I'll happily skip ahead.
Apologies for the infrequent posting on my end BTW. Not sure how much I mentioned already, but work and school have been tag teaming to ensure I have zero free time and insufficient sleep the past couple of months. I think I'll cut back on my absurd workload after the current semester ends in mid-December, so things will probably pick up again after that, or maybe after the holidays worst case scenario.

"So when Ed found out he could talk, he got into show business..." :p
Be back tomorrow night to post for the rest. Sorry, I am really ready for bed.
Oh and Christoph, it's approaching noontime at this point.

Horses
At the stable, there are this many horses available for purchase:
Total Horses Available: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Click here for Pathfinder horse options, prices, and stats.
...
Concerning Names and Descriptions. Feel free to name and describe your horse as you see fit, and to decide on whether your horse is heavy, light, or combat-trained. Note that half of the horses available (four) are definitely Hannoverians (see below), since they are bred locally.
Whether you're buying a horse now or already have one and would like a little help fleshing out a description (if you haven't already), here are a few suggestions. But feel free to Google your own horse breed as you wish.
Andalusian (images). Andalusians are prized by knights and royal families for their nobility and prowess in battle. Though not the largest of horses, they are quite strong and naturally more adept at mounted combat training. Andalusians count as heavy horses.
Friesian (images). Friesians are among the most nimble of horse breeds. They're bred by royals for their dark beauty, and in animal circuses for their agility at performing tricks. Frisians count as light horses.
Hannoverian (images) are notably bred right here in the Palatinates of Ustalav. They're known for their superior athletics and jumping skills, but are trainable and can make decent work horses too. Hannoverians count as heavy horses.

GM Kartari |

And to refresh your memories: here's what Judge Daramid said about the Silent Path.

GM Kartari |

BTW, I am assuming at least one party member will burden their horse with a medium or greater load with that 7.5 hour time estimate.
If those of you with light horses can manage to keep your combined body and gear weight under 175 lbs., and those with heavy horses can manage to keep it under 229 lbs., you can probably cut that time down to about 5 hours instead. This would let you make it to the castle just before sundown instead. Every single party member would be required to meet this restriction, however... unless you want to leave someone behind, in the dark, at their slower pace? LOL.

Aliseya counts 50 gold pieces out at the stable. Needing another 25 gold for a light horse, she turns to Naught with such a pleading look in her eyes...
I need some moneys... :D

Sookie Clayten |

Sookie sadly has no money, having spent it all on her starting equipment. Ideally, she’d get the Hannoverian.

GM Kartari |

Zelda, Naught, and Ali are free to add anything else they might recall about this place, its resident, or anything else along the way before entering. Or to subtract from what I assumed you shared.
Also, a slight correction. The three ladies who played Book 2 would have also mentioned that the bridge is actually Count Caromarc's personal property. And it leads to his manor; you have to actually pass through his property in order to reach the other side of the river.
Kinda strange for a recluse to live where the only bridge across the river for many miles passes right through his home. Then again, I suppose very few people want to cross into the Shudderwood.

GM Kartari |

Metz has light as a spell known, so I would assume he would put that up. Sookie's silversheen longspear is also one of the magic weapons that glows. People forget that rule about magic weapons :D
I did look at everyone's profiles quickly. Too quickly, apparently. :)

Zelda quickly lights her lantern and carefully crosses the bridge, lighting the way for everyone.
Zelda lives up to her last name, at last. LOL.

GM Kartari |

To clarify, the locked door is actually in the second guest bedroom (with one of the unused beds), not the master bedroom. It's actually on the side of the manse facing the icy first bridge, whereas the rope bridge is further across the river, on the opposite side of the manse.
I know that was a lot of description. I'd have put up a map, but I'm not getting much free time lately...
...but what the hell. I just uploaded a map of Schloss Caromarc.
F2 is the gatehouse where the horses are. The building with rooms labeled "G" is the manse. G3 is the great hall you entered with the creepy thing on the floor, showing the fireplace and the stairs you just climbed.
You're currently on the second floor of the manse; the section showing rooms G11 - G13. The two G11's are the two guest bedrooms; G12 is the room with 3 cots and drawings; G13 is the master bedroom.
And if anyone tries to do a perception check near those secret doors without any reasonable reason, and only because, "Oooh, there's an 'S' over here on the map," a bolt of lightning shall take your character to the Bonesland. :p ;)

GM Kartari |

I'm waiting a bit for a certain roguish blonde for that...

GM Kartari |

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.
No worries, Zelda. I have not forgotten. I'll assume you're not checking that locked door out, then? Or making the perception check vs DC 35 (for a different reason than the door...)?
LOL, Naught. We shall see... * maniacal expression as the GM plays with sparks from his fingertips *
I'll move Rhia along in the near future, if she's just waiting to move on.

GM Kartari |

Also Zelda, you have "15" written in your stat block for trap spotter, but I'm calculating +13 instead. That's +10 for perception, plus a +3 bonus (1/2 rogue level) from trap finding. Where's the other +2 from? Thanks.
P.S. Everyone, I'm not sure if this fits the official rules or not, but I'm counting secret doors as "traps" for the purpose of the trap spotter rogue talent. What I've found in the rules seems to merely imply they are not counted as such (i.e. separate entries in the DCs for Perception checks). But there's nothing that explicitly states whether they are or are not. I erred towards counting them only because it doesn't make sense to me otherwise (and in 3e D&D I recall the similar elf ability did explicitly include secret doors).

GM Kartari |

I have the trap sense rogue talent. It gives me a +2.
Ah, but Trap Sense only applies to Reflex saves and AC vs traps (rule). It does not apply to Perception checks to detect traps. So it should be +13, then. Sorry.
Also my perception is 10 even if i got a 20 i couldnt get a 35
Very good. I probably mistook the 15 for Perception in the moment.

GM Kartari |

Just quickly checking in to inform you all that I'll be back in a few days to move the game forward. I've been having another bout of insanity-level work activity. The good news is that I expect, after this, that I'll be good for the rest of the year and into January at least with more regular posts. So, hang in there, and feel free to roleplay in the meantime.

One huge stressful thing down, one more to go... I want to put careful attention in to the next post, so I'll be back when I am feeling more alert (it's been a busy weekend). Soon! Likely in the next day or so...

GM Kartari |

Naught - I just edited my last GM post right after you posted. Be sure not to miss the last paragraph.

GM Kartari |

No rush, but I'm just going to wait for Sookie & Christoph to catch up before we move on.
Happy Holidays, everyone.

Christoph Metzger |

Will be back to posting tomorrow. Run up to Christmas vacation caught me off guard with its crazy

Sookie Clayten |

Likewise. My thesis is done and I’ve graduated so been catching up on everything else before the holiday

GM Kartari |

I've decided to create a new Roll20.net game for our combat encounters. When you get a chance, please PM me the email address you use to login to Roll20 so that I can invite you. Alternatively, please let me know if you'd prefer me to PM you a share link to sign yourself up with the game. If you don't have a Roll20 account, you'll need to sign up for one, but you can do so for free. And if anyone would really prefer something different, feel free to let us know your preference. Thanks.

GM Kartari |

I love Christoph's mistrust of....everything.
LOL. Well played, Christoph. I'm really enjoying the tension between his agenda and his allies'... interesting talents.

GM Kartari |

Happy New Year, everyone.
BTW, please do note my previous post above about Roll20.net, thanks.

GM Kartari |

Zelda - I'm still waiting for your PM (see my Roll20.net post above from Dec. 23).
Christoph - I invited you, but you haven't accepted yet. Maybe check your spam folder.
...
We'll wing this combat sans Roll20. Assume the creature is between 20 and 25 ft. from you, closer to the far NW corner while you're at the SW corner (again, you're all in room H2 on the map). The ground on the western "wall" is partially covered in debris, which counts as difficult terrain. The rest of the room is not difficult terrain. The two tables and shelving depicted on the map are there, if useful to you.

Christoph Metzger |

When Christoph heard the sound on the bridge (now in the open) he probably would have switched to his longbow (his normal/preferred weapon). He had out the morningstar for the enclosed space, but will typically have his longbow in hand. Should I assume he has it now? If so I can add the necessary attacks.

Sookie Clayten |

Could you maybe put the map/roll20 link in the campaign info and/or in your GM header? It would make posting faster and easier
