Cap'n Voodoo |

the Groom leads the way out to the balcony, but Jim overtakes him on the stairs and vaults the bannister to land near Dibbets as a tide of gore spattered rats overtakes the panicked halfling. Dibbets-5 hp biting and a DC 12 Fort save.
Dingus follows down the stairs and somewhere above you hear Kaul bellowing as he moves through the bell tower.
figure Dibbs in the swarm, Jim within reach, Groom and Dingus 10 ft from the action and Kaul still 2 rounds away.

Round 2?: Got skipped over for Round 2 Cap'n, though I'll fall in line with the run like buggery action with just a single addendum...
During his frantic fleeing, Dibbs manages to produce one of the flasks of alchemist's fire the crew lifted out of the mayor's house.
Round 3: 11/19 HP, nauseated
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Overwhelmed by so many little feet and teeth and by the gods where have tha buggers been they stink like fermented... unable to cogently frame a thought as he stumbles away from the center of the swarm of meese.

Dingus Mack |

Hopefully as Dibbets attempts to escape the horde of tiny mice, Dingus will step forward, and if possible leaviing the halfling out, spread a hunk-a hunk-a burning love among the rodents.
3d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) = 6 Burning Hands (15' Cone)
"Richard, I hope you like charred rat as much as raw"

Cap'n Voodoo |

Sorry Dibbs, failed my distraction save meself.
Slapping away bitey rats, Dibbs stumbles under the assault after fishing a fire flask from out of a pocket. Above him, Dingus pauses at the top of the stairs to unleash a sheet of fire on the rabid rodents leaving Dibbets slightly singed, but bar-b-queign a couple rats.
now onto round 3- map

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

Round 3:
Status:
HP: 33/33 AC: 19 Conditions: +2 IP
Sizing up the situation, Jim realizes his sword is useless here. Aw, feck. Not another one. He looks around for a small or medium table--something big and flat that he could mash a moiety of meeses to pieces with, and in the meanwhile move to stay away from the wriggling rodents.
"Though your pet snake liked 'em wiggling, mate. KAUL! Shift it, shipmate--might have a piece o' heavy lifting for you."

the Groom |

"Rats...I got nothing on rats. But I can patch you up after the fire does it thing."
the Groom hesitates to join the fire and fur on the ground floor.
On the road and can't get the map loaded, but can't be too much help here anyway, Sorry Dibs.
Hey Boss, do you think Besmara would be up for the Groom using a Cutlass as opposed to a rapier (not that it would help here). Its from the Pirates of the Inner Sea and has the same stats as a Rapier but does slashing damage. With it introduced post-Besmara being assigned a favorite weapon, but seems more Pirate Queenish. And would spread out the group's weapon selection. Nothing immediate, but down the road. It would fit his poor fisherman background a little better too..... Plus that Besmara trait Dibbets mentioned earlier, maybe at the 4th level change.

Cap'n Voodoo |

the Groom hesitates on the stairs, not particularly interested in having his pruney toes nibbled. Jim weighs the option of soiling his sword on the vermin or trying a less pointed approach. Dibbets tries to outrun the rats unsuccessfully as they follow him to the center of the room and several score peel off to feast on the pondering swordsman.
Dibbs-6 hp, Jim-2 hp; both DC 12 fort or distracted

Dibbets |

Round 4: 5/19 HP, ornery
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Able to hold back his gag reflex for a few moments so as to gather his thoughts, Dibbs stumbles clear of the mass of meese and gives them an evil grin before throwing his volatile cargo into the seething carpet of fur and feet.
Not sure where the meese ended up on the map - though I'm guessing I can go to H,13 and be clear?
Ranged touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 for 1d6 ⇒ 3 fire, at H,11 (if the meese are still there)... trying to avoid Jimmer... if possible... if not, then Dibbs will patch him up afters.

Cap'n Voodoo |

Dibbs- I didnt get a direction for your movement last round and just assumed you moved up to E11 (rats would be at G9, G10, F11, E11). You move at the same rate as the ravenous rodents so you can't outrun them. If you want to go to H13 the rats wouldn't attack Jim and would cluster around you- G13, H13,I13, H12

Dingus Mack |

Round 3
"Get out o that mess Dibbs". "Give me room to flame them".
Dingus will refocus his initiative and move just after Dibbs clears the mess of rats, then hit them with another Burning hands...from 15' away.
[b]Round 4
3d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) = 5 Burning hands

Cap'n Voodoo |

Jim- No problem. Disregard previous damage.
Jim dances away from the advancing rats as Dibbets runs back and forth trying to find a safe place. Dingus waits until Dibbets is clear for a moment and unleashes another blast of fire charring several score of the nasty varmints.
Dibbs- give me continued fire damage and another alch fire roll.

Dibbets |

Continuing fire dam: 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire.
Unless mistaken, I've only had time to toss a single bottle?
Round 1: Close door and notice holes.
Round 2: Start running and draw vial.
Round 3: filthy varmints o'erwhelmed me.
Round 4: Sucked it up and released the red fire.
So methinks that the rats get another chance at the bitey bitey before I'd be able to do anything else?

Cap'n Voodoo |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Slow moving halfling seems to be the morsel of choice as the rats trail Dibbets around the room scurrying through his beard and up his pants. Dibbs- 4 hp biting.
Kaul finally joins the party fashionably late.

Dibbets |

Round 5: 1/19 HP, ornery
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
On his last leg and a half in more ways than one Dibbs manages to spit out the one rat that made it into his gob before yelling "Keep em roastin Dingus" stumping out of the mass and putting a hand to the sigil of Gozreh hanging from one side...
Move to E,12; cast CLW on self: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 - now 7/19 HP; 1/6 spells cast for day

Dibbets |

As the tiny marauders turn to flee, Dibbets first thought is to give chase... which lasts all of twenty feet or so before his leg pains enough to give it up. Muttering "Filthy bloody disease ridden pieces of..." Dibbs gives himself a spit n polish... 2 x CLW: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12 - 19/19 HP... before making sure to kick and stomp on any of the things still left wriggling after Dingus' handiwork.
"Much obliged Dingus, hard to bloody outrun the buggers wiv a bum leg. I've gotta door ye an little scaly might want tae peepsie at." before leading the Tian gent back to the locked storage room "Reckon ye ken feed the slippery little bugger through fer a look?" purposefully leaving the investigation of the barracks and source of meese to one with less pesky festy bites covering him...

the Groom |

"Sorry Dibs, my Queen doesn't provide me anything to fight rats like that. I think she has a soft spot for them.....Disgusting really.
Turning to the others, "Anyone found anything useful? With a corpse, Granny's skull might be able to get a word out about what happened here."

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Kaul sensing the chance to be useful, whips out Tum Bo-Bo...
"Hur... Tum ye got any magicks that'll 'elp me wee shipmate? Shiney's and some quality grog when we're back onshore o' great one..."
The thug looks sincerely at his nut, then the itching Dibbs...

Dibbets |

Replying to Jim "There were a feckin lot o' blood where the damned meese came from" pointing to the barracks.
Dibbs sets his own beadies upon the coco-bobble head and replies "Wouldnae want ye blessin anyhow" poking his tongue out at the monkey as a gesture of petulance.

the Groom |

the Groom is going to kick up a Detect Evil, figuring whatever did all this, were not on the goodly side. He will keep that up as he moves into the barracks, crossbow in hand.

Cap'n Voodoo |

The barracks is awash with death and destruction. As mentioned, the room had been partitioned with curtains forming small cells. Now the curtains are stained with gore and the cells contain nothing but cots crusted with congealed blood and the occasional stool or chair.
No traces of evil remain, but the Groom figures that enough time has passed that only the darkest malevolence would still be detectable.

Dingus Mack |

Sorry guys. Been driving all day. Don't wait for me for stuff like this. Dingus would be more than willing...not so sure about Richard...but the thoughts of fresh rats should convince him.
Dingus again shares a detect magic with Richard and sends his friend to investigate.
"Now you sneak in there and look around". "Don't stop to eat any rats till you report back, then we'll find a couple of nice juicy ones for you".

Cap'n Voodoo |

The storage room at the base of the tower is locked as well, but Richard can slither through a gap in the floor. The room is pitch black, but Richard feels the dripping of water and the scents of mildew and rotting wood. He detects no magic in the room and even the rats seem to steer clear of the place.

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

Untrained Survival check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Jim contemplates the smears of blood, then takes a look at the exit. "Oh, that's not good, mates. Looks as though the bodies were dragged to the beach. I'm a mite unsure as whether they were taken by man or beast, though now I'm recalling news we've heard of sahaugin raids."

the Groom |

Survival (Track) -> 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 = 16
the Groom stoops to look at the tracks. Can he ID a species doing the dragging from the bloody footprints?

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Kaul shrugs his bulky shoulders;
"Dunno... reckon any other nasties might o' come a callin' when I rung tha bell..."
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
At Jimmer's thoughts the thug brightens up;
"Hur... Sharkey boys eh??? Bess'll make sushi out o' then hur-hur... Bring em on..."

the Groom |

"To the library then, by all means. I still think someone should have written something, maybe it would be there." the Groom will follow Dibbits and give the Library a search.
Perception -> 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
But all he sees is pages and pages about to be wiped on people's asses.

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

"Well, Dingus' snake has already had a sniff at the place, so I think it's time for breaking and entering. Unless any of you lads chanced upon the key whilst we were strolling about?"
