Correction unless there's something that provides cover directly around the corner. So I guess it's subject to DM fiat.

If she finds something that grants cover Nera will simply cast detect magic and scan the area for 1-6 rounds depending on how long it takes to pick up a magical aura and pinpoint Charon's whereabouts. This is negated if charon is hiding behind an sheet of lead, wood with a thickness of 3 feet, or 1-inch think metal, or 1 foot of stone and has total cover rather than partial cover. All of those things being relatively uncommon/circumstantial.

I.E. you'd need total cover and rare circumstances to avoid detection. You'd still get concealment bonuses, but Nera would know you're in that 5-foot square.

Unless you're able to stay on her she'll be able to duck around a corner and hide herself, I do believe that this falls under the Creating a Diversion to Hide part of stealth. Otherwise it just becomes a pretty easy game of hide and go seek for Nera.

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

OOC Chatter on stealth:

I'm assuming standard RAW unless otherwise noted by the GM. I take a liberal interpretation of GM fiat considering that the GM can always say rocks fall you all die. So as far as I'm concerned every basic rule is subject to GM fiat allowing the GM to dictate whatever they wish.

Although unless otherwise notified all I can do is operate under what's written rules wise given that I can't read minds or anything. (I wish I could read minds :D)

So without adieu I present more frustrating garble to distract us from anything pertinent besides pvp:

I'm assuming a chase hasn't ensued since that would be running full round actions. So Nera should be able to keep up with her considering hiding is a standard action and they share the same movement. That delves into chase rules and we should start rolling constitution checks instead and a whole slew of different rules apply.

Further Charon would have needed to roll a bluff check to create a distraction in order to hide if she did so during the fight. Fortunately going around a corner gives her full-cover and blocks line of effect so it should allow her to make her stealth check so she doesn't need to make a bluff check in order to hide by simply turning a corner. She would still need either cover or concealment to do become hidden with stealth if out in the open so the bluff is a moot point because she doesn't gain either until rounding a corner, where she can make the stealth check without a bluff check. Ergo she wasn't hidden while she moved to get around the corner. Even if she magically had a row of boxes or it was dark out granting her concealment she'd still need to move at half speed or take large penalties, that's not the case though.

Once Nera turns that corner with standard movement line of effect and cover no-longer applies and she can perceive Charon since she no longer has no cover and cannot remain hidden.

The exception is if she found a barrel or something that provides cover and hid in that. Knowing that Charon couldn't have gotten far 12 seconds (2 rounds) to cast detect magic in both directions to pick up the aura of the dissipated spell Nera applied to Charon or her various magic items should reveal Charon's location down the 5-foot square after 3 rounds of concentrating on the Aura, but not negate any bonus's for either cover or concealment.

The only way Detect Magic wouldn't reveal her location is a specific list of materials that seem highly unlikely were a part of any full-cover not partial cover that she took advantage of while hiding. Seeing that the template for detect magic is a 60-foot cone it's impossible physically for Charon not to be within it's radius.

From her posting Charon didn't initiate a chase so that throws out chase rules.

So to remain hidden under my understanding she needs:
a.) To have found cover after she turns the corner.
b.) Found full cover that consists of either thickness of (sheet of lead, 1-foot of stone, 3-foot of wood, or inch of metal.) To avoid detection by detect magic. (It's very improbable due to the thickness of the materials needed, but not impossible)

If the cover doesn't meet the requirements it takes Nera roughly 3-4 rounds to pinpoint her location. It's still a good tactic seeing as it burns up rounds and mirror image has a time limit plus it allows for a surprise round if Charon instigates it with an attack.

So unless Roshan wants to GM fiat Charon gets away with the bag-o-money the only real question that needs explicit answering is what kind of cover did Charon find if any.

Aside from that Nera's actions still stand and the ball is currently in Miss Charon's court. Since, I'm taking Charon's posts as what she's doing I assume a chase scene hasn't occurred nor anything that she hasn't posted up.

ooc stuff:

On the stealth thing. Chances are in town there are things broken, shattered, bushes, crates or trees. Basically go from one area to the next to get away. Charon wouldn't run around a corner and hope you wouldn't follow she'd find something to hide behind.
Regarding Detect magic:
Detect Magic does not act as sight. It provides information regarding a 60 degree cone. Information is only provided while the character is concentrating on receiving it. The first round of concentration only provides a 'ping' that magic exists within the cone. It takes 2 more rounds of concentration for the location to become apparent.
Charon would be moving. She wouldn't sit still. So you'll have to concentrate on each area. Even stealthed moving at half speed Charon would be out of cone in 2 rounds if she went long wise.

Charon continues to stealthly duck around corners of buildings, using anything she can hide behind. (Provided stuff is around to stealth, rosh let me know. If not I'll use a different action.)

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

ooc:

Oh yeah I know that's why I said it would take between 3-4 rounds to detect Charon if she remained hidden.

The problem being that Nera can simply follow the direction you went before you found a source of cover.

Once you're hidden behind some source of cover in order to be able to move to the next source of cover you need to leave your source of cover. If there was say a fence-line or something you can move while remaining in cover and thus hidden, but that likely isn't the case.

Once you do you simply stop having cover and Nera can see you as you move to the next one. You can use bluff while being observed to distract Nera to hide, but she will know the general area you where previously in direction you went and repeat the move action and detect magic for 3-4 rounds to pinpoint your location.

You cant use stealth to remain hidden unless you have some form of concealment/cover. So it doesn't matter if you move at half speed it's not dark out so you don't get concealment you're only saving grace would be a fence-line or tall grass.

For example: If there's a room with no doors and a single barrel in the center of the room and a halfling rogue and 3 ogres. The rogue can distract them to make the check to hide in the barrel. Afterwards any ogres will likey open up the only barrel in the room and eat the halfling. However, if they don't do that within a turn the halfling can jump from the barrel initiating a surprise round and getting sneak attack and FF AC. Otherwise it's just a halfling in a barrel that's about to be eaten by ogres.

It becomes a game of hide and seek. That will either last forever or until one of us gets bored. Or find a source of cover that is impervious to detect magic. In which case tracking via survival or simply taking a 20 on everything in the immediate area to search it becomes a viable option. So following a trail of blood shouldn't be too difficult either.

I suppose eventually you'll run out of corners and conveniently set up cover with a place to hide.

Roshan wrote:

So a blood trail leading to a barrel? Does the Barrel have a top?

If allowed: Assuming (Yes/Yes) As Nera rounds the first corner and sees the blood trail leading to a barrel. Nera will simply continue with her movement and jump on top of the barrel. Sitting firmly on top trapping anyone who may or may not be in the barrel inside.

Should require some kind of STR check to escape subject to DM if she's inside.

She casts detect magic down the ally way from which she was following Charon and waits 1 round to pick up a ping of a magical aura 3 rounds if she detects one that's not her own. If not otherwise she'll simply look the other direction and do the same. If at any point Charon moves from cover she'll be able to see her and simply continue pursuit. If there are no auras in either direction or Charon doesn't remove herself from cover in order to move than she's sitting on top of the barrel where Charon is hiding via process of elimination in which case she'll fart.

Can we find some way of bringing this pvp to a close? It's becoming complicated tedious and filled with cluttered with discussing the base mechanics of the game. I'm fine with whatever ruling Roshan hands down in terms of ending it. I'd prefer some method of drawing it to a close that doesn't simply leave the door open for the missing bag-of-platinum to ever become a re-occuring theme, but honestly whatever ends it quickly and effectively is fine by me.

The bloods from the smashed crates crates but nonetheless you sit atop the person sized barrel. After a minute or so of sitting atop the barrel you hear or feel no movement from within nor does your magic sense betray any auras within. Your curiosity getting the better of you you ready your blade and a spell and crack open the top, looking down back at you is a barrel full of pickles floating in pickle juice. As the cap comes off a number of flies come zooming out. Turning around and scanning the alleyway you're almost completely certain that Charon is no longer within 60 feet in any direction you can see.

Male Human Oracle of the Heavens 20/Horizon Walker 10

Okay, lets get back on track.

Dolelan, you organize what you can with what you have. Putting together a somewhat reasonable defense you recruit a defacto leader, a Frank Isley from among the men who aided you in shoring up what you could, with a good head on his shoulders he followed your directions well and though you'd expect him to not do well in clutch situations he's probably the best you have at the moment.

Lugdro, you aid the group of men in piling the bodies up on a street a block away from the square in an attempt to spare those left from the disgusting stench. While it helps in blunting the sting the air is still filled with the nauseating aroma of burning skin and meat. Wiping your brow and looking down at your dirty hands one of the young girls who was helping to cover the dead with sheets walks over to you and the other 4 guys while you recover on a porch across from the fire, she carries a bucket of water and a ladle, offering you all a drink.

Legiald, I'm not sure what you're doing after you settle what happened with that guy but I'm going to assume that you go ahead and help where you can. While Dolelan tries to organize the defense you go to each of the men who remain able to hold a weapon in hand and provide them with the most basic of basic training. (i.e hold this end, poke this way, don't get cut)

Nera and Charon, after your little escapade you're both off somewhere, Charon trying to evade capture and Nera trying to do the capturing. While Charon's skill in evasion is quite good Nera has the advantage of Magic, a couple times Nera you'll come across someone elses magic, checking it out you'll find that it's one of the other people that remained after last night.

Okay Then

It's an hour before noon, the sun is sitting high in the sky and the town is as ready as you can make it. Whatcha doing?

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

Finally ^_^, though I do wonder how Charon managed to get away. Simply academically so I can know how she managed it having the same base land speed and no continuous source of cover/concealment to avoid detection.

I'd like to be aware of what the rules are in a game so I know how to interact with them accordingly.

Holding her nose Nera quickly replaces the barrels cover reeling.

Clever lass must have some sort of method for teleportation. she thinks to herself clueless to how Charon managed to escape.

After a few seconds standing puzzled she runs screaming through the alley way and into the street. "A girl by the name of Charon may have stolen the bounty needed to pay the mercenaries to free you all from the wicked shadow beasts! Approach with caution she's armed and dangerous!" she continues her random shouting with random descriptions of Charon.

After a few minuets yelling at the top of her lungs to alert the good townsmen. She will go find a place to buy some parchment and start drawing up fliers with a crude picture of Charon a description her name and a statement warning others to approach her with caution, but attempt to detain her as well as her suspected crime.

Deducted 25 gold for around 100+ fliers and writing utensils

After littering the town with fliers and spreading the word half-hazzardly. Nera will seek out Lugdro/Legiald/Dolelan to have a few words about what they intend to do before returning to the tavern to conduct experiments on her black ichor.

Academicly? because she didn't actually hide anywhere, she used the cover to go stealthy and kept moving, the blood was already there when Charon entered the alleyway and it actually came from the crates if you re-read the post, though honestly that was probably a mistake on your part where you may have misread the post about the blood. The reason it played out like it did was because we've spent a bit too much time on this and I'd really like to get back to doing stuff.

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

Ah no worries, I just wasn't sure and confused as to were the blood was leading to. I figured if she was in the barrel it was worth the gambit considering Nera could simply trap her there and simply wait for her to move if she wasn't inside and didn't have a continuous source of cover/concealment. Which is probably why things that grant concealment (Fog/Mist/Lighting effects[darkness,dim-light]/Camouflage/Blink/Blur) are invaluable for stealthy types otherwise it's hard to remain stealthy in broad daylight. A cloak lined in lead is probably a good idea as well, but I'm getting horribly side-tracked <_<.

I'm glad it's over, but think it's unfortunate that the issue hasn't been resolved and thus the door is seemingly open for it to be brought back up at a later time.

I amended my last post to seek out the rest of the party before continuing on. Hopefully a simple scroll of zone of truth or something of such nature can simply weasel the truth out of Charon at a later date or the fliers and spreading of news keeps her from spending the ill-gotten loot.

Anyways what do I need to roll to find the rest of the party or where do I find them. I assume it's around noon-ish by the time Nera gets around to looking.

Female Human Two-Weapon Fighter- 2/Rogue- 3

Just a side note, even if Nera got to search Charon. There would be no way for her to know, what was actually hers and what wasn't. She never seen anything put into the haversack nor would she know about the bag of platinum. So she'd have no idea, although I can see where her curiosity would come. As stated before, still had a lot of fun with whole thing.:)

Charon will stop for a moment when she feels Nera is no longer on her tail. She take a moment to actually check what's actually in the bag. (count coins or if it's not coins) Charon scowls and says to herself, 'I'll have to be careful with that one. Just her curiosity almost got me killed.' Charon sighs and starts towards closest traveling or non-traveling merchant or supply place.(@rosh let me know what is available or limits.)

As Charon moves through town, still keeping to shadows. Soon as she either hers about her name or sees flyers she will put on a disguise. Charon curses to herself, she knows she needs to get back to parties general direction and do some damage control.

OOC:
I assume in the letters of correspondence there was a bureaucratic mention of the bag-o-platinum. It would likely have the exact number of coins, type, and such. Nera doesn't know you have it or even that your bag is a handy haversack. She knows that such a bag was strangely absent at the office, that the courier should have arrived already, you acted suspicious, lied to her, drew a dagger upon questioning, got very angry when she tried to search you, then flat out tried to murder her when she did it a second time.

So yeah; she thinks you're are likely suspect in robbing the town of it's bounty, and you're also highly dangerous. She doesn't need to 'know' to make that assumption that it's easily possible worst case scenario she's wrong and you're life is slightly inconvenienced.

She still thinks a shadowbeast or someone else may have stolen the bounty or the courier was obstructed during transit, but Charon is suspect and thus she'll expend an effort to alleviate that possibility before she follows up on any other possibilities.

Charon Warblade wrote:

Applying science both the atomic mass of platinum vs gold are very similar so if the bag of platinum was quite a bit heavier than the bag of gold it's at least 1840gp in platinum. I'd wager between 3000gp-10000gp. Which puts you roughly a level or two ahead of everyone else WBL. On a scale of what constitutes considerably heavier just below double the wieght for 3000gp or just below 10 times the weight for 10000gp.

Chances are you'll come across Dolelan and Legiald as they're heading back to the townsquare unless you're actively trying to find another group, there are a couple other groups of guys still searching houses but they're closer to the fringes of the city and you'd have to go out of your way to find them.

You'll come across what you'll assume is an apothecary, a wooden sign in the shape of a rounded potion bottle with the words "Everything Else" underneath hanging from a wrought iron signpost. And by the way there's exactly 750 platinum coins in the bag.

She chews obsessively on a piece of wheat as she furiously scribbles notes onto some parchment and occasionally mumbles an odd word to herself between scribbles before occasionally looking up to see if she can spot a familiar face in the sea of complete strangers.

Upon encountering Legiald and Dolelan her eyes light up for a the briefest of moments, before she quickly hides her piece of wheat in a momentary flash of embarrassment. "Ah you guys! I was hoping I'd see you guys! what have ya been up to?......... No scratch that....have you seen Miss Charon around I believe she may be in need of my assistance with her wounds" (you probably don't recall her ever being wounded)

Nera pauses looking briefly dejected as the conversation turns she suddenly becomes irrationally suspicious.

"Errrr....oh right I forgot one moment....." she mutters a few words and casts detect magic. Picking up on the familiar aura's of her arcane mark and Legiald and Dolelans magical gear she breaths a sigh of relief.

Good, they're not secretly polymorphed beings of pure evil. That's one worry taken care of.

At the mention of 'Walter' she quickly mutters "Shhhh I'm trying to listen, they're not talking about you! while slapping the hilt of her blade.

Communicating with Walter in her head: Dispite what you think people don't talk about you constantly the world doesn't revolve around you.

While Legiald speaks Nera pulls out her pen and parchment and begins to scribble furiously half halfheartedly paying attention to Legiald as he speaks a behavior that comes off one part odd another part rude.

She begins to prattle on absentmindedly. "Ah yes 'organize the townsfolk' she says as she scratches off a line near the top of her parchment.....hmmm lets see....that should up the survival rate by at least....48.235%....if of course the shadowmonsters are a nightly occurrence...It's also fortunate that you're burning...well....thebodiesoftherecentlyslain....I find that it quickly insures the odds of necromancy to approach zero..." she trails of for a moment.

She perks "up oh yeah I'd almost forgot!" she rummages through her clothing and pulls out what appears to be a shiny pearl that gives off a faint glow. Nera mutter a few strange words in elvish and the pearl becomes dull and lifeless. "Here ya go!" she says cheerily as she muters a few more words in Draconic before touching Legiald on the shoulder.

A red burning sensation tingles over Legialds body it feels almost oppressive and dirty, but his wounds begin to heal themselves starting with the most profound wounds first.

As his wounds heal Nera continues her exacerbating prattle "Anyways have both of you considered when we'll be traveling to this jackals folly...I managed to snag a vial of that strange black ichor so I plan on doing a few choice experiments on it before I take leave....I speculate it we should probably...well travel at night...seeing as our enemies seem to be impervious to attacking us in the light of day that time might be better suited for resting....to you know mitigate our chances of being ambushed while we're weary."

She then exclaims with a measure of excitement in her voice. "I also discovered something interesting about our shared brands! It seems that if we try to kill another that has one it will glow hot and become quite uncomfortable" as she rubs her own most recent tattoo.

You get some strange looks at that last remark.

After a quick search of the body in the room. After, Charon carefully puts the 14 potions in her haversack. Charon scowls at disarray of everything, knowing none of the herbs would do her any good.

Charon knows she must be getting back to the group before Nera spins her own tales. She needs to play some damage control. Legiald shouldn't be hard to convince, he seems trusting enough. It's the others Charon is worried about. Charon heads back to where she thinks people are.

@Charon when doing routine search checks I find it easier to simply just take a 20 instead of throwing out a roll. It's one of the few skills you can do so, and if not pressed for time it's easier to simple post up 20+perception.

Charon:
Examining the body you find that the wounds are strangely clean, the cuts on the body are relatively straight as opposed to the mulched remnants of the attacks by the shadow creatures razor sharp teeth.

On the body itself is a small gold pouch with 20 gp worth of gold in it, and a dagger on the ground outside that looks like nothing more than a letter opener, walking back inside after looking at the dagger you find that it's colors and decorations matches that of a small little holder underneath the counter. The letter opener itself may be worth something as it's handle is interwoven with a latticework of gold and silver and a monogram in the initials S. D.

"Damn." He taps his breastplate near the brand reflexively in mirror to her own action. When she hangs her head, Legiald turns his head to see the looks upon them. He almost scowls at the attention, but blinks hard and covers his eyes a brief moment again as he did before. Don't sweat this. I knew they weren't just tattoos... perhaps more like a divine curse. But how did she find out about... He looks to her again as she seemingly tries to hide herself in plain sight. He steps closer to her as to keep others from hearing him in a low voice, cupping his hand to hide his lips from observers.

"Did Charon try to kill you?"

Retcon: With Roshan's ruling about linguistics, I wouldn't have been able to tell everyone about Walter and Jackal's folly immediately after the battle, but as Nera walked up Dolelan was scowling over hand-written notes on a sheet of parchment, poring over odd-looking words and scrawling corrections as he worked his way through the page.

Absorbed with his translation, Dolelan hardly does more than look up when Nera approaches- but as her babbling wanders toward topics of more direct importance he looks up at her... only to have her immediately look away and stare at the ground. Such an odd girl. She seemed... off somehow. He idly wondered where she was from, probably somewhere quite isolated. She didn't seem like she'd fit in at any of the elven towns or cities that he had visited.

When it becoapparentrant that she's going to continue studying the ground for some time, Dolelan answers the first of her many questions, "I haven't seen Charon since this morning. I have mules and provisions ready for a journey to Jackal's folly, and I think I've worked out what that creature on the roof said to us...

Dolelan explains what "Sir Walter Thomas" said (as best he can translate it), and what he remembers of the stories about the shadow creatures, ...and yes, oddly enough, I'm almost certain that he was using the formal second-person declarative tense of Abyssal."

For reference:

Knowledge check results:
You've heard of these creatures in stories from the old lands beyond the sea when the dark necromancer Tibald Makestuffdead (he renamed himself after he first gained power, apparently he was very vain and self conscious of his previous last name which has been lost to the annals of history) tried to extend his influence to areas beyond the waking sea (the oceans around the eastern lands i.e here). He sent small groups of cultists armed with powerful artifacts that were able to bend and shape the will of beasts and as more creatures fell under the control of the artifact eventually even people would fall under it's effects. The artifacts were rounded up and destroyed by the Wardens after The Brotherhood, the western lands equivalent of the Wardens defeated Tibald in his castle after aSiegethy Seige.

Each artifact was unique to the cult that held it but they all had one thing in common, all of them contained a beating human heart.

Walter's message:
"Hello there, my name is Sir Walter Thomas. I am terribly sorry to have inconvenienced you this fine day but you see my pups were quite famished after laying dormant for so long. It is understandable if you wish to seek grievance and I await all Challenges at my residence within Jackal’s Folly."

Was I able to recover the mules and supplies I purchased yesterday?

Nera stammers a little "Well during my investigations into what happened to the bounty delivered from Hobb she got quite defensive about my......well....inquires.....and well I think she tried to kill me....and Walter always told me 'don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back.....so I defended myself and I'm afraid Charon did a poor job at trying to kill me....because well here I am, but I do believe I may have grievously wounded her...so well that's why I'm so interested in where she's run off to as she may need my attention." (Anyone who knows what I'm referencing with walter's words of wisdom wins a cookie)

She adds hastily, "Not to mention I do need to scratch her of my list of potential suspects of those that could possibly be in possession of such a bounty.....it sort of got interrupted by her momentary lapse of murderous insanity." she suddenly panics for a moment before frisking herself wildly and looking through her things.

She sighs to herself with relief before pulling out a piece of parchment that before crossing something out.

She turns to Dolelan. "I don't know about this shadowbeastie guy, but he seemed pretty nice to me.....well at least polite....he did in leave whenever I asked him to which was well.....nice I guess....still I'd like to know what he's up to with these vicious monsters and....well you know ask him if he can help us stop them or tell us how to get rid of them... or something...." (Nera doesn't think the thing they saw on the top of the rooftops was necessarily a bad guy. He was polite enough to leave when asked and she never saw him do anything untoward so to her he was the most reasonable less murderous of the shadow monsters there)

Charon pockets dagger and gold. She'll head back to where she thought the group was. Hoping she'll beat Nera there... But most likely not.

Male Human Sorcerer 4th (Accursed bloodline)

Lugdro smiles nicely at the young girl who offers him water. "Thank you, dear. This is thirsty work. Is there a place where I can wash up? I would appreciate it if you could lead me there. I'm afraid I've got blood and ichor all over my robes."

After washing up, he'll hand the girl a few gold coin. "Kindness should be repaid with kindness, and you obviously have a caring heart, providing for a stranger. I thank you. Don't let the darkness of these troubles put out the light in your heart." Hunger and weariness is setting into his bones, so Lugdro heads back towards the area where the pub was. He absently hopes to see Nera and Legiald, and possibly that bard chap. He seemed nice enough, but he hadn't really had a chance to meet the man, so far.

Charon will get as close as she can to listen what is being said, hopefully without notice.
Disguise: 30

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

Disguise checks are normally supposed to be secretly rolled by GM so you can't be confident in your disguise, but I'm going to simply assume Nera:

a) Has no idea who you are.
b) Isn't actively paying attention to things around her.

Word of warning, Nera is frazzled by 'new' people merely popping into her life and she'll likely scan you with detect magic if you interact with her for any real length of time and foil any disguise you may have concocted.

Perception checks from everyone involved, DC 18 to notice that new person lurking in the shadows.

Those that succeed roll a sense motive, DC 30 to see through the disguise and reveal her true identity.

Indeed, things like disguise checks and forgeries are rolled in secret by me. I mean have you ever written a paper and quadruple checked it for mistakes and then someone else takes it and finds an error on the first line? If you don't see a mistake you don't see a mistake.

Female Human Two-Weapon Fighter- 2/Rogue- 3

On a side note, I am stealthing for a reason. Even though I'm disguised there is always a chance you could see and recognize me. Charon's goal would be to get Legiald to the side to speak with him, whether Nera is there or not. I'm fine with interactions from Nera.
Charon moves from the shadows and bumps into Legialds shoulder. Acting like Charon tripped, she grapples onto Legiald. As she is falling Charon tries to slip a note into his pocket. Charon states, [b]"Sorry kind sir. I am sorry about my fall there. Normally I am not so clumsy. I must be off. Good day." Charon starts to move away.
Bluff(distraction): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

A note with Legiald's Name:

Legiald,

Meet me at Everything Else. Don't trust Nera. She tried to kill me. She started the fight with using magic, I tried to finish it with a blade. I found something out about marks on our chest. Also, I think her sword my have control over here. Be-aware. Also, I'll fill you in when you get here. Please come alone or at least with someone you trust. If Nera comes, I'll leave. I'll be damned if I let that witch search me.

Sincerely
Charon.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Sense Motive 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

It looks like Dolelan noticed Charon and her sleight of hand, without seeing through her disguise. The last thing he expected after the horrible things that had happened in the town today was a pickpocket, but his instincts keyed on the woman reaching into Legaid's pocket... he moves to cut her off from moving away and with a stern expression says "Excuse me, miss, but would you mind returning whatever it was you took from that gentleman's pocket? Legaid, please check your possessions, I believe you were just pickpocketed."

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

Nera content to not pay attention and sort of mubble at the ground meekly during her and Legiald's conversation as she mulls over Dolelan's information perks up at the mention of pick-pocket and draws her sword.

Perception; (To notice it's Charon)
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1

Nera calls out to the woman "Ma'am if you where in need you should have simply asked, but know I'm afraid I'll have stop you."

Nera casts daze on the new woman (DC 14 will save negates). Man, how many times is Nera going to daze Charon today? Anyone want to take bets? :p

Nera exclaims after casting her spell, "I've tried to daze her with my magic it would be prudent to pin her to the ground if you wish to recover your possessions."

After dazing her Nera will move to casting detect magic not only to see if anything magical of Legiald was taken, but also to ascertain if the woman is a threat.

If Dolelan's cut off her path couldn't she theoretically be flanked? If so that's a +2 to the CMB, if she's flatfooted as well that weights odds further. Toss in Legiald's rangers focus if he want's to use it and we can grapple then pin this pickpocket and tie her up pretty easily.

It'll probably make her easier to search and who knows perhaps we'll find.....i don't know....7000gp in platinum on her person... <_<

OOC Disguise chatter:
Quote:
If you are impersonating a particular individual, those who know what that person looks like get a bonus on their Perception checks according to the table below. Furthermore, they are automatically considered to be suspicious of you, so opposed checks are always called for.

I think the +4 would only apply if someone else was trying to impersonate Charon. Since she's not trying to pretend to be someone specific I don't think there would be any bonus to see through the disguise. I potentially rolled a high enough sense motive check to get a hunch but I figured I'd leave it to Roshan to let us know how this plays out...

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

@Dolelan:

ahh my bad totally overlooked that completely it's late O.o

Incidentally, I have noticed you've got suggestion as a spell known...you could probably come up with a creative use for if we find out the pickpocket is Charon. (namely: "Please hand over all the things you've stolen in the last week.") <_< ....you know it it would be in character or something...and of course you haven't used up all your spells for the day.

Elven Archivist 5

@Nera:
Actually, I was thinking of something like "You need to tell me the truth about what happened in the mayor's office.", should the occasion arise. Suggestion is really, really useful... I can hardly imagine running a bard without it ;)

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

Dolelan:
Yeah I was already assuming that, but I didn't want to mention it out loud. I might go edit/delete my posts for secrecy!! <_<

I figure 'hand over everything or stolen in the last week' is nice plus it also reveals the potions she picked up and the gold. It's more inclusive and from a meta-gaming standpoint would make our lack of a primary healer easier if the LE rogue doesn't decide to keep that to herself (which could easily happen).

Elven Archivist 5

@Nera:
I'm not worried about secrecy :P We're all working together to tell a story... I'm sure we can keep it in-character. I think it is "very reasonable" (per the spell) to ask for the truth, while asking for things that she considers precious might not be. From Dolelan's perspective, there's a lot worse to worry about than catching a thief and I see it as the GM's job to worry about enforcing wealth by level and other party balance concerns (karma is fun!). If it makes Charon's story better for her to steal a bunch of platinum, good for her! It can become a plot point later...

We're cluttering gameplay thread a bit, let's move the chatter to the discussion thread if there's more to say.

For that matter, we don't need her as an enemy either.

He parts from Nera, sighing as the unpleasant energy seals the worst of his wounds. The evil touch of it left him with serious doubts as to the honesty of Nera's claims- she had the off behavior enough to be in the faith of Norgorber, the Reaper of Reputation. Charon said she had enemies, it wouldn't be a surprise if one of them sent an assassin after her. He remembers Nera's first interaction, accusing Charon loudly in the streets of misdeeds. She could easily finish of Charon under the guise of a healer. He idles near the two as he continues his thoughts.

Surprised, Legiald immediately fingers through his pockets. He finds the note, pulling it just enough to look at it with his name on it. He returns the note to his pocket as though it were his all along. All my money is in my pouch- she didn't take anything. Its her. He checks another pocket, pulling a scroll of CLW in the same manner before returning it as well. Nera then casts her spell on the woman. He rushes Charon none the less, attempting to grab her. "Your hands!"

(assuming either Daze works or he is faster than Charon. Ranger's Focus and the Heavy Hand Gauntlet activated)
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 (success)

Gripping over her left arm, he tugs on her violently. "Explain yourself!"

Male Human Oracle of the Heavens 20/Horizon Walker 10

Waiting for Charon to roll her will save for the daze but assuming she makes it out you'd still have to roll a grapple check to lay a hand on her. Also, the check to see through her disguise would also be made in secret because well...until you make the check you don't know it's a disguise.

Generally, what you all see is this strange woman you've never seen before stumble near your group, it isn't all that weird considering that the townsquare is full of strange people you've never met before, though Dolelan claims she had her hand in Legiald's pocket, though no one else was able to catch it. So here you are, all gathered around in the townsquare staring at this strange (Alleged) thief.

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

It seems initiative order might actually matter so I'll post mine up. The DC for the daze is 14 Charon in case you didn't want to look it up.

Initiative;
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Here's how I see this playing out;

Round 1: (Regardless of initiative rolls Dolelan is the only one who notices so Nera & Legiald act as if they've delayed they're actions)

Charon: Move to Legiald (Move), drop note w/ slight of hand (Standard).
Dolelan: Notices something's amiss; Takes full movement to flank Charon (Move actions); Talks (Free Action).
Legiald: Initiative beats Nera's; pulls out note (Move Action); Attempts a Grapple with Charon (Standard).
Nera: Acts last; Draws weapon (Move Action), Casts Daze (Standard Action).

Technically I think Charon would get an AoO, but since she's unarmed I'm pretty sure it would provoke an AoO on her from both Dolelan & Legiald. We can always chalk it up to Legiald simply delaying and then grappling her.

Female Human Two-Weapon Fighter- 2/Rogue- 3

Hey, on a side note. My actions should of been in the surprise round but Dolelan would get a action as well. He's only one that wasn't caught by the distract.
Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Charon feels Legiald grab her arm. Charon shrieks at the action. She tries to break free of the grab and tumbles past Dolelan.

Escape artist: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Beats Legialds CmD
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Charon starts to move as fast as she can. Charon yelling back, "I'm so sorry, So so sorry sir! I was paid to keep you distract!! But this isn't worth it!!"
Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Charon ducks around the corner and into a shadow.

Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Stealth is part of a move action. I'm only getting 30ft away anyhow.
@rosh let me know what's closes area I could run with cover. I'll assume I we back to area I came from. Or if I can use the crowd.

Female Elf (Forelorn) Blade-Bound Magus 5

@Charon, Daze prevents you from acting on your next turn. If it sticks you can't break free of the grapple till the next turn in effect giving Legiald another round to maintain it/pinn you/or tie you up.

You need to toss up a DC 14 will save if I'm not mistaken.
