Cyrus the Flea |
I'll pick up one of those as well... Seems like a no brainer!
GM Damo |
Keep in mind that you'll have to spend an extra hour each day in preparation if you want to use the book bonus for those rolls.
Okay, so my current awareness check rolls are:
[dice=Amaranti intimidate]1d20+4[ /dice] -- Bounty hunter
[dice=Cyrus stealth, stealth kit]1d20+10+2[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Finarin knowledge (local), book]1d20+4+2[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Gunari intimidate]1d20+7[ /dice] -- Bounty hunter

[dice=Kaisharga stealth]1d20+9[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Miro stealth]1d20+10[ /dice] -- Laying low
Does anyone else want to pick up another skill kit of some kind? I'd like to get all the purchases from your most recent chronicle finalized today if possible. It will come into play soon. :-)
Cyrus the Flea |
Thanks for that reminder, I need to put that stealth kit in my profile... Otherwise I am good (posted my purchases and sales last night)
Finarin Moonstep |

Wow I really am the weak link here. That is correct, let's assume that He studied it on the boat before he arrived. After that, he will use stealth w/ his master work kit which is the exact modifier w/o the hour of study. That way I can use Vanish/Blend. Any thoughts on how you will handle casting a spell w/o notice? Wish I had Still/Silent Spell feats :(
I'd like to get all the purchases from your most recent chronicle finalized today if possible. It will come into play soon. :-)
I am also going to update my spells, but I cannot update the rest of my purchases until I get home - so later today.
Finarin Moonstep |
I just realized that like a bunch of jackholes, we all came in and sat down together. Probably should have sat bounty hunters on one side/ Laying Low people on the couches. Probably should get separate rooms. I am NOT sharing with the monkey!.
GM Damo |
You'd need concealment to cast the spell without being noticed, and even then they'd get perception to hear the verbal components. As I intimated, using vanish/blend to help your roll will be a very niche situation. I wouldn't rely on the spells to be of too much use here.
So, now we have:
[dice=Amaranti intimidate]1d20+4[ /dice] -- Bounty hunter
[dice=Cyrus stealth, kit]1d20+10+2[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Finarin knowledge (local), book]1d20+4+2[ /dice] -- Laying low
or
[dice=Finarin stealth, kit]1d20+4+2[ /dice] -- Laying low, after today
[dice=Gunari intimidate]1d20+7[ /dice] -- Bounty hunter
[dice=Ibid knowledge (local)]1d20+7[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Kaisharga stealth]1d20+9[ /dice] -- Laying low
[dice=Miro stealth]1d20+10[ /dice] -- Laying low
Amaranti |
Amaranti gets a MW Intimidate tool. I think I'm still the weakest link...
GM Damo |
No problems. And don't worry too much about weak links. Awareness points are inevitable, and they accrue per failed roll. It's not like group stealth where one person messes it up and it all falls apart. You need a few (not that I'm telling you when you get them or how much you get) before there'll be an effect.
Gunari Maximoff |
I am NOT sharing with the monkey!.
That's what you think!
GM Damo |
By the way, mechanically there is no difference if you hang together or not. You arrived on the same ship and lots of people saw that. Hang out together but go about staying unnoticed in different ways for general exploration. Don't split the party and make your lives harder. ;-)

Normally, Ibid's knowledge(local) check should get an extra 1d6, I assume that would apply to the list above...
[dice=Ibid knowledge (local)]1d20+7+1d6[ /dice] -- Laying lowGunari Maximoff |
Since it's only usable 4 times per day, I'm hesitant to use it in your regular block. If you want me to use it as we go, I will. Just make sure to keep track of how many uses (you'll see my rolls).
The investigator can use inspiration on any Knowledge, Linguistics, or Spellcraft skill checks without expending a use of inspiration, provided he's trained in the skill.
Damned rules lawyers :P
GM Damo |
Oh, hey! I'd missed that bit. Thanks Gunari. That's chuffing fantastic! It's an untyped bonus too, so will stack with a circumstance bonus. Dude.
Okay, my next character just has to be an investigator. Man, it has to be the best PFS class ever.
Gunari Maximoff |
I've thought I need to make one of these as well... maybe that will be my -15?
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I'm the only one who can have one, that way you can't make one better than Ibid.
Miro Ammars |
Sorry for the absence, fellas. Computer connectivity issues at home. Miro has a +8 Disguise skill, and a disguise kit, if anyone should want to go that route. Change Miro to Mercenary, please. Gunari was very convincing!
Also, I'd like to make a couple of purchases:
+1 Chain Shirt - 1,250 gp
+1 Heavy Wooden Shield - 1,157
Total - 2,407 gp
Cyrus the Flea |
So, random question that I'm sure I can't do... But my character just sold his +1 chain shirt, and Miro is buying one... Can't we work out a deal here? :)

For my part, I think I'll hold off making any purchases at the moment. Hopefully save up some coin.
GM Damo |
Okay, so it seems we are set for awareness rolls.
Here are your first awareness rolls, for real. I'll try to keep these in the discussion thread so we don't muddy up the gameplay with meta-rolls.
Amaranti intimidate, kit: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
Cyrus stealth, kit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 = 31
Finarin knowledge (local), book: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
Gunari intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Ibid knowledge (local), inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 7 + (4) = 20
Kaisharga stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Miro disguise, kit: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 = 26
Poor Kaisharga sticks out like a sore thumb. FYI, Amaranti, let me know if you want to dismiss Kaisharga and just rely on your other summoning powers instead. It obviously won't need to make rolls then.
Something you can do, if you like, is increase the DC of your check by 10 (before I roll) to create false trails and the like, which will reduce your awareness by 1. I wouldn't recommend it, though, unless you have some means to bump up your skill check for an extended period, as you're dramatically increasing your chances of raising your awareness level also.
GM Damo |
Okay, as you set out to the Free Trade Square, you are try to blend in to the crowd and use your cover as mercenaries and bounty hunters.
Awareness rolls
Amaranti intimidate, kit: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17
Cyrus stealth, kit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 = 28
Finarin knowledge (local), book: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19
Gunari intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Ibid knowledge (local), inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 7 + (6) = 26
Kaisharga stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Miro disguise, kit: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 = 29
So far, so good... some awesome rolls in there. Of course, you have no idea what the DC is... ;-)
By the way, if you have and would like to use one of your rerolls on this at any time, do let me know!
Finarin Moonstep |
How would we factor in using a PP for a +4 to a skill check. We would need to do that before the roll - correct?
GM Damo |
Correct. But due to the nature of PbP it gets a bit tricky since I don't ask you to roll so you can't say "I'll use it now". There will be another awareness check at some point, so do let me know if you'd like to use the +4 on the next one (or any time, you can let me know that the next check you make should use a +4 bought by PP).
On the whole, though, I think there are better things to buy with 1 PP.
Finarin Moonstep |
I just want you to know that because of your actions, now the world will never get to experience the greatness that is:
Gunari Maximoff |
LOL!!!!
Oh, I could just see the embarrassment that Finarin would have with this!
Gunari would be rolling on the ground!
GM Damo |
Ha! Classic.
Time for some more awareness checks. It just feels like time for those, doesn't it?
Awareness rolls
Amaranti intimidate, kit: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23
Cyrus stealth, kit: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26
Finarin knowledge (local), book: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21
Gunari intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Ibid knowledge (local), inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 7 + (5) = 28
Kaisharga stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Miro disguise, kit: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20
Holy schmoly!
Finarin Moonstep |
@ Damo I am absolutely terrified of combat with you rolling like this, although I hope your hot streak continues on your gambling journeys.
Cyrus the Flea |
Really looking forward to this encounter... Sounds fun!

My coworkers are going to be worried about me today.... laughing out loud at posts!
Mouth agape, Finarin turns towards Gunari. In a deadpan expression, "I though that I was ... the leader."
Of course Finarin would believe that. Gunari really never worried about all that leadership stuff... he's WAY more interested in personal freedom of choice, and all that... oh and having fun! Typical Caydenite in that... coupled with his Varisian blood.
Funny that as a player, I haven't thought of any of our characters being the "leader" since we're all so good at RPing, and all the characters "lead when necessary". We are just a functional anarchic collective!

Agree - that had me laughing too.
And Agree - never felt like it was necessary to figure out who our "leader" was. We just all do what we need to when it is our turn to step up! Part of why this group is so much fun.
Finarin Moonstep |
Like any good team that functions at a high level, there are times when each character has 'lead' for lack of a better word, just don't tell the elf.
Ready to proceed ...
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
looks like I cannot access the map, maybe there is a permission thing-a-ma-jingy?
Finarin Moonstep |
maybe it is not ready for us yet?
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
...loading.... :)
GM Damo |
Sorry! What a doofus. Funny thing about sharing out permissions, you need to click "save" and not leave the dialog box open on your computer instead. Duh.
Should be all good now. I'll delay the combat while you have a quick look. I'll start either tonight or tomorrow morning.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
great, thanks! Ibid's position is updated. I'm all set.

What kind of 3rd rate Gm does that? Oh me? Yesterday? Ok, guess it can happen to anybody ;)
GM Damo |
Ibid, had to move you 5ft to the west. You were on the eaves! Falling through and all. I should add that if you jump through those eaves, you won't take any damage. You will have to make a DC 15 acrobatics roll to stay on your feet, though!
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Sweet, sounds good. Thanks!
Gunari Maximoff |
GM Damo. Got a question for you, a situation is happening that I honestly don't know how to rule on. I would Like to cast murderous command, which has a duration of 1 round. It says that the target will attack the nearest ally on his next turn. I just want to make sure that the duration will not end on my turn, before my target will get to act.... Making the spell useless.
I will abide by your ruling either way, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks.
GM Damo |
Murderous command away. It will take effect in the surprise round in difficult terrain (meaning they can't close and attack with a charge). However, the roof isn't difficult terrain, meaning they will drop their crossbow and charge (drawing melee weapon during the charge) and all will be fine. That is how I read "to the best of their ability". Just target Ungala or Jim.
If forced to make another ruling on it (ie. if it were all difficult terrain), I would say that they have to move during surprise round, menacing their ally (threatening them) and then get a standard action or move action (whichever is appropriate based on their allies' reactions) on round 1 before having their remaining action under "free will".
If no difficult terrain and in the surprise round, I'm not sure that I would grant two attacks. I would probably rule that the full attack is what they'd take - which would put them past the full round. I'd just grant the threat until the following round, and remove a move action from them for that round to make it fair.
"Round" to me means a move and a standard.
GM Damo |
GM Damo wrote:I jumped from the roof as part of my movement and negated the damage with the acrobatics roll. I tried to find something in the acrobatics or falling rules to confirm the legality of that (that it can be part of a move instead of its own move action), but couldn't find anything either way. Visually, Cyrus leaps from the building 10 feet down to the ground and hits the ground in stride, finishing his movement 30' from where he started... Kind of like making a jump check for a horizontal jump, you just can't jump further than your full movement.. Happy to go with whatever you decide to rule. As much as I don't want to delay, where I am on the map will affect what I do next, so I will wait, and then post my action as soon as I can!
Also Cyrus, acrobatics can get you down as a move action... where's the other movement coming from?
Okay, so that's an acrobatics check to do a long jump followed by an acrobatics check to avoid falling damage. :-) I'd allow some kind of rule for extra distance based on your height advantage, maybe a +10 to your check for the long jump.
However, doesn't matter now anyway... back to the gameplay thread.
Cyrus the Flea |
Unless you are saving it for a surprise to try again later, I am itching to hear what your idea was in that combat finarin....

Well going invisible, scaling a wall, and attacking with 2 attacks w/ shocking grasp while she is flatfooted and I could use Arcane Accuracy
Scimitar Attack W/ Arcane Pool Point & Spell Combat & Arcane Accuracy: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 15
Scimitar Damage w/ Arcane Pool Point: 1d6 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 12
Shocking Grasp Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5) = 13
Scimitar Attack W/ Arcane Pool Point & Spell Combat & Arcane Accuracy: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 - 2 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 24
Scimitar Damage w/ Arcane Pool Point: 1d6 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 10
So that would have been 35 hp before she knew I was there.
