Amaranti is having a hard time maintaining his fierce demeanor, and is looking less and less like a mercenary. Worse, his big lance is making him very recognizable and the pathfinders note that he has been drawing a few wary glances here and there. Nothing menacing yet.

Finarin is also beginning to forget all that book reading he did earlier on. He tries to pick the right streets for an elf of his standing, but occasionally ends up walking down a smellier side street than he intended.

Everyone else is keeping to their covers beautifully.

Sooo.... Chris and I were having a little debate about low light, concealment, and sneak attack. Turns out I am technically not supposed to be able to sneak attack in low light, because low light technically gives everyone concealment, and sneak attack cannot be done when the target has concealment of any kind.

Dangit... That kinda fubars up everything I have done so far... Sorry Damo!

... unless you're planning on saving up for the next 3 levels to get some googles of the night.

For now, since I didn't realize, let's just say that they were carrying poor quality torches that illuminated themselves and the 5-ft around them, but dropped them (causing them to splutter out) the moment Cyrus struck.

Actually, in the adventure as written, there are no lighting conditions. In the adventure as written, there isn't even an area for you to fight in... but the dim lighting may have been more harsh than needed. Since it's equal opportunity for all, it probably doesn't matter, but there are no rules saying that it has to be dim light. Street lamps nearby could easily be illuminating things.

I like that ruling, that makes me feel better.. I feel better for mentioning it too, I don't like feeling like I might have cheated, even if it was accidental.

Digging on that feat though... Just got to figure out where to add that to the list. Was planning on taking mobility next. Goggles of the night might be in order otherwise... We will have to see.

Yes, concealment is the woe of precision damage. Another thing, you don't multiply the sneak attack dice on a crit. Not that the extra damage was needed here anyway...

Crap - that was a copy paste error... I knew that. Yea, I will be doing a little research to weigh the pros and cons of that feat based on the feat schedule I had tentatively planned out... 12,000 gp is a LOT for those darkvision goggles... Thats going to require some thinking.

I suppose in situations of dim light which offers the concealment, I could just use my wayfinder to cast light...

Could even drop the gold for a wand of darkvision... Level 2 spell, 1 hour per level. 4500 gold is far cheaper than the 12k gold goggles, 50 charges is essentially forever... probably more value in the wand.

Didn't reroll since I only get a +2... wasn't even thinking of my GM star bonus on this, but still probably only a 50% chance to save for half. I have some plans, but it is going to be rough. Need to get the two back into it.

I would reroll, if you have it still, Finarin. Granted, still probably only a 50% chance, but getting you back would be a great boon for us!

Won't make a difference for this roll, but I thought I would ask for future reference.

I can't find any official ruling on it on the paizo threads...

Oh, And I will have my character leveled up tonight, ready to roll right into the next one. Level 4 brings me an extra Ki point and another ninja trick - (will probably use it to get mobility, a feat tax for some other things I have my eye on) plus Uncanny Dodge. So no more losing my dex bonus to AC*! Not sure that ever really happened anyways...

This is a permanent bonus. Permanent bonuses apply to day jobs. The skill is used for stealing things without being noticed (you can always steal and be noticed, but it's not "sleight of hand" then, it's just mugging). The other use is to conceal things on your person. Since it is a thieves' guild and not a smuggling operation, you can definitely use that bonus for your day job rolls.

There's probably no "official ruling" on that specific vanity because it's already covered by RAW.

I stand corrected on the AC... though im not sure it comes up often. maybe that's what I was thinking of... :) Either way, excited about that little nugget. I feel woefully exposed already for as much as I like to duck into the fray. Invisibility helps. Now when I turn level 10 I can get the advanced ninja trick that makes my vanish trick work like greater invisibility... for at least 10 rounds... mwuahahahahaha (1rnd/lvl)

Thanks for the confirmation on the +2 bonus also - I will make sure that gets included in the future. As I mentioned, not enough to get me to the next threshold anyways, so it doesn't matter this scenario.

Sorry for the confusion - Cyrus switched to a Wakizashi a couple scenarios ago - the companion blade to a Katana. (which he doesn't use thanks to his effectiveness with weapon finesse) Same damage output as the sickle, just with the 18-20 threat range instead of the special ability to trip. (also adds the deadly ability) Very minor - Just wanted you to know for future amazingly evocative descriptions... I still carry a cold iron sickle, just in case the situation calls for cold iron...

Gunari, don't worry about sending me your PP or GP spends. I trust you all to keep your ITS's up to date, and I never worry about writing those things on your chronicle sheets - mostly just the "GM only" sections. I figure if that's "GM only" the rest is then (tacitly) for players. Tinker at your leisure.

I've been getting a lot of fireballs in the face lately (not with Amaranti), maybe investing in a fire resist would pay off... I'm not sure if having a high CL/CR boss casting fireball if a good way to add challenge... It can be pretty brutal, especially if playing up. Did this one have another fireball available?

Yeah, I agree about hitting players with a fireball when they're not of a level to even be able to use a dispel magic to counter. It's within CR, though, and you didn't have too much trouble dropping him. Next tier up, he has stoneskin active and 5th level spells! Only the one fireball... so, y'know, if it actually went a full 2 rounds, it would have been a lucky break.

Didn't help that you rolled amazingly high on that fireball, either.

But... we survived, and that's all that counts. Goes to prove, though, that counter-battery fire is definitely essential! Thanks, Ibid!

Was a hard call for Gunari, that's for sure, given that he usually barrels into combat without thinking. But he had to make sure his peeps survived as well!

Only rolled 24, average is 21 for a 6d6 fireball. My original roll was a 26, actually (when I prepared my post in advance), but having to roll for Cyrus knocked the 6 away and it was replaced with a 4. If I'd rolled the right amount of sneak attack dice, the other 6 would have gone, too! Reading down, replaced with a 2... making it only 20 damage. If only, eh?
