After some quibbling and after Makedonia heals Kaduk, you all strike the monster at the same time and it expires in a gurgling smelly mess.
You get 267 xp and a hero point each for this battle. That's what rolling 00 on the wandering monster table can get you into.
What's next?
Kwin Avassar |
Could we trouble you for an updated map? I don't think I want to go to town quite yet; I'm so close to leveling and I would love a little more loot... :)
So, shall we make another attempt at those gems, lest another creature like that claim them or destroy them?
Makedonia |
Makedonia allows herself to smile as the sleeping creature is butchered by her friends. After it is obviously dead, she quietly approches its corpse and harvests it for rare body parts, getting her hands all bloody in the process.
"I'll guard the door", she offers in reply to Kaduk's suggestion. She then keeps an eye on the hallway while trying to clean her hands as much as she can.
Black Tom |
What do you know, I got you a new map.
The room looks just like you left it, with the slab hovering by the north wall. Yurggen is no longer enlarged.
Kwin Avassar |
I'm sorry, but that spell just doesn't last too long. I might be able to do it once again before I rest and study my spells again. If you have a plan, we can work it out and I can cast the spell again on him when you are ready to start. I would be using Bonded Object to cast it again. DM, did I have to use Color Spray to subdue the monster for another round of strikes, or were we able to finish it in one? I just want to keep my cast spells on my profile up to date. Thanks!
Kwin Avassar |
Thank you for the updated map and clarification.
To the group, Kwin will say Perhaps Kaduk is simply too big for the floating stone. Why don't I try it? I'll be ready to leap off if it lurches up too quickly.
Unless someone gives him a reason to stop, Kwin will set down his pack and axe, draw his dagger, and climb up on the platform. He'll wait for someone to trigger the switch and see what happens. He'll have a ready action to leap aside if it starts rising too quickly.

Kwin will invoke Feather Fall as he tumbles to the ground.
Slowly he stands and dusts himself off, then recovers his gear.
Perhaps we can bring something back with us to get up to those gems. I can't figure out that platform; it went a completely different direction than I tried to will it to.
Are we ready to go back to town for some rest?
Black Tom |
I suggest that one of you makes a tally in the discussion thread.
There is no mage living in town as far as you know, but you may be able to buy divine potions or scrolls at the Temple of Sarenrae. Fascher might have some odd potions or scrolls for sale, too.
Or you could ask around some more (and make a few Diplomacy checks).
Makedonia |
Makedonia feels quite restless, so she wanders around the small village, looking for any interesting magic scrolls or other curiosities. However, while speaking with some of the villagers, she notices (too late) that they are repulsed by her looks and behavior and refuse to cooperate or provide assistance.
Using Charm hex (improve attitude by 1 level) before each diplomacy check,
Diplomacy check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Diplomacy check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Diplomacy check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Diplomacy check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Diplomacy check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
I guess rolling 3 1's in a row doesn't make her very popular in any way.
Valynie |
So Kaduk , any plan for tonight ?
and it is a long stretch but Valynie will go to the temple of Sarenrae to inform them of first the presence of a cell of Rovagug with an empowered shrine .
She will ask for instructions on how to purify it explaining with a smile that her religious education was on more earthly matters
If the discussion seems to be going well , she will mention trace of Glarias and ask what they know of her rite
diplomacy1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Black Tom |
The temple of Sarenrae can supply you with scrolls and potions of Cure Light Wounds at the usual rates, or even a Wand, but it would be fully charged.
Priestess Silitta Ederus receives Valynie gracefully and listens with concern to her report. Of course it would be very good if you could stamp out the followers of Rovagug, but unfortunately the temple itself is stretched to help the needy above ground. She wishes you luck, though.
About Glarias she can tell you that there used to be a temple to Glarias in Brindenford, but it was torn down as people misunderstood the nature of its rites, which were carried out at night. The priestess sighs. "Alas, Glarias was a benign goddess. Fickle, like your own mistress, but benign."
I posted a notice on the Bridgeman, the high-class inn, in case you prefer it to the Lost Shepherd.
Yurggen can find a dwarf to drink with at the Lost Shepherd Erlan Furg that you spoke to in the beginning of the thread, but the company is better at the Bridgeman. So is the ale but the prices are steeper, too.
Makedonia is greeted with contempt and suspicion around town, but the middle-aged woman with the Harrow Deck takes an interest in her. She introduces herself as Marlena, and admits to dabbling a bit in the arcane arts. She says she might be able to sell you some minor equipment if you'd let her copy your map of the Delve.
Selina Aldaeth |
Waiting to see if someone compiles a loot list. Can't do much shopping with 4 gp.
Assuming there is no Temple to her goddess in town...
Selina visits the Temple of Sarenrae and pays her respects and prays for guidance.
Black Tom |
The priestess looks a little thoughtful. "Well, I guess that depends on how powerful the temple is. Maybe a little holy water would do the trick, maybe you need more powerful magic. We could get you a scroll of Hallow, but that would be expensive it's risky to wield such magic."
"I guess you should go with the holy water for now. If the temple is not in use anymore it's no great harm to anyone."
Valynie gets a hero point for her piety.
Black Tom |
Marlena smiles endearingly. "Curiosity, simply. I'm toying with the prospect of writing a book about the Delve and its history. So I'd be interested in seeing and possibly buying any exotic items that you may find down there. This place has quite the ambiance, you know, my dear girl."
Kaduk Jaskar |
Updated the loot sheet, quite a read! We'll offload the tools and magnifying glass and agate huh? Current xp at 1792. L O O T.
Makedonia |
Makedonia nods at Marlena, handing her the map. "A book, you say? Sounds like you know quite a lot about the delve. I'll tell you what - I'd be more interested in knowledge than in mere items, if you would like to make such a trade. Also, are you interested in any specific items, or you're simply looking for anything unusual?".
Black Tom |
Marlena laughs and offers to buy Makedonia some wine. "You are a girl to my taste. You remind me a little of me as I was young. Well, there is a lot to know about the Delve, and I can tell you that I'm interested in any little trinkets, as well as sharing your maps of the place. I'm not looking for anything in particular, but I found that adventurers tend to loot all kinds of interesting places, and seldom understand the value of what they see or find, so I'm making it my business to salvage what they don't understand, without sticking my neck out. Also I might be able to sell them some magic equipment that they can use. We all profit by this arrangement and get to do what we do best. Here's to profit."
She deftly copies the map from Makedonia, then shakes her head. "You haven't gone very far, have you?"
Makedonia |
Makedonia smiles and accepts the wine from Marlena. Sipping a bit, she replies calmly: "I'm sure we would move and map much faster with more knowledge about the Delve, then update you with our new maps. Just share your knowledge and we'll all profit, with coin, trinket or book".
She sips again, then asks: "You've mentioned some magic equipment for sale. What do you have?"
Black Tom |
Kaduk is able to sell most of the stuff to Fascher.
Marlena grins: "You obviously mistake me for a library. I don't give away knowledge. I sell it. Besides that dungeon changes enough for me to want to update my map with yours rather than give it to you. As to magic items, I can get you about anything given the right price and some time. Contacts, you know..."
Do you want to stock up on something before going back down (after a good night's sleep, of course)?
Kwin Avassar |
This time in town, Kwin is going to keep to himself. He'll pick up some more rations, probably just a loaf of bread and a wheel of cheese at the inn. He'll spend most of the evening focused on his spell book, adjusting arcane formulas that he's been working to master for some time now.
Level 2 is closing in...
Kaduk Jaskar |
Picking up a levitation scroll Kwin? It's cheaper. Selling off most of the loot. 34 gp each with an extra 1 gp going to party funds. There's 2 wine bottles which needs valuation though. Kaduk's going to stock up on clw scrolls and other adventuring items and food.
Appraising wine bottles: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Kwin Avassar |
Randall, thanks for doing the bookkeeping on the loot.
When Kaduk returns from his fencing, Kwin will let him know:
I considered getting a scroll that would allow one of us to levitate magically up to those gems, but even if I could find one in this town, it would be too expensive. Such arcane power does not come cheaply. I am working on something in my spellbook that would let me do it, but it may take me some time to get it worked out. I certainly would want us to wait here while I get it sorted out; it is hard to predict how long a breakthrough will take. Can we try a rope and grappling hook? Or even a ladder? From down here, he says, gesturing to his height difference its hard to gauge how far up that carving was. Any thoughts?
I see we posted at the same time and you had similar thoughts...
