Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Perception 19 (listening at the door):

Spoiler:
You hear faint clicking sounds.

Makedonia puts her ear to the door, but she doesn't hear a thing except for her own breathing.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6

Male Dwarf Fighter 1

What da ya here",asks Yurggen gruffly.

1d20 ⇒ 3 Perception

Yurggen panics for just a moment, as he can't even hear his own breathing, then he calms down when he sees his chest move

Well, clearly there is nothing to be heard beyond the door.

Apart from some machinery

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

So are you going to open it?

I think Kaduk was supposed to do that, but if he doesn't:

Makedonia shrugs and opens the door, shielding her body with it as she moves backwards.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The key fits and the door opens, letting you into a room with a large kiln resting against the western wall. An empty coal bin sits next to it. A few rusty iron tools lay about the floor.

There are two visible exits, a passage to the south and a door to the east. The door to the east is made of wood, but covered in iron plates. The heavy lock was long ago broken, however, so it hangs ever so slightly open.

And also there is a humongous scorpion the size of a horse.

Roll for initiative and establish some sort of marching order, please. Map coming soon.

Makedonia gasps and says, concerned: "I thought there was a machine inside, not a house-sized scorpion!" She quickly moves back and leaves the front line to whoever wants it.

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Other than that, Makedonia will take 4th-5th place in any marching order if possible.

Male Dwarf Fighter 1

Yurggen would have stepped up to the door to be ready for whatever was inside, so he's probably ready at the door as it is slung open.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 Initiative

[ooc]How about a standard order of Kaduk first, Yurggen and Selina and then Kwin and Makedonia? And if we have to go single file, Kaduk, Yurggen, Selina, Makedonia and Kwin?

Haven't updated the loot sheet in a while. Will review the post and update soonish. Kaduk's been quiet lately, contemplating on his strings of near deaths lately.

Ok , you are in trouble now !

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

And Valynie would indeed be at the rear

Um, Kwin wouldn't dare presume to tell Valynie were to be relative to the others...?

sorry

Got you a map

Kaduk and Valynie go first, then the scorpion.

Kaduk advances to the scorpion at N21 while trying to not trip on the scattered tools. The startled scorpion receives the brunt of Kaduk's strike.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Damage: 2d4 + 2d4 + 6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 3) + (4, 3) + 6 + 6 + (1) = 27

How many Hero Points to double damage? I've only one. I'll spend it if it's affordable.

Female Elf Clerc 2

Let it come to us ! It can't easily pass the .. Too late !

Valynie will fire at the scorpion
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 21d8 ⇒ 6

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Two hero points would let you maximize a damage dice but that's about it, I'm afraid.

The badly hurt scorpion reacts in the only way it knows, by trying to take Kaduk to pieces, clipping him with its pincers for 12 points of damage.

You are up.

Makedonia pulls a small claw out of somewhere in her clothes, and makes a small cut on her arm. She smears some blood on her forehead, then chants in a strange language while looking at the scorpion. As she finishes, her the smear seems to disappear somehow.

Sleep Hex on the scorpion.

Kwin will delay until after Kudak goes again, if the scorpion is still up and going.

Liberty's Edge

Human (Minkai) Samurai (sword saint) 7 (Order of the Warrior)

Vermin are immune to mind-affecting effects, of which the slumber hex is one. The scorpion's not going to notice anything even happened.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Selina slashes the scorpion, whose alien mind shrugs off Makedonia's magic. It looks badly hurt but keeps fighting.

Yurggen, Kaduk, Valynie and Kwin still to go.

Yurggen's hammar spells the end of the giant vermin.

Another 167 xp to you.

There are two visible exits, a door to your left and a passage at the far end of the room.

Female Elf Clerc 2

Valynie will cast stabilize on Kaduk
If I'm not mistaken , he is out of the fight

She will then turn to the rest of the group :
Unless I'm badly mistaken , it would take the rest of my daily healing power to bring him back to consciousness, not to speak of full health... I think that's it for today then.

Don't worry , Kaduk , one day you'll be 2nd level ... and the monsters will strike twice as hard

Murmur murmur murmur...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Kaduk gets a hero point for his bravado, so that he can continue in style. :) That's actually what they are for.

Makedonia turns to the others and says "I have some healing powers, but I can't heal a person more than once a day. However if Valynie wants to rest, I won't object".

She then proceeds casually to remove the scorpion's sting, or at least part of it if it seems too big to store conveniently, then continues with a piece of one of his front claws. After finishing, she rejoins the group with her new trophies and a faint smile.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Not sure if you want to rest. Are you going back to Brindenford?

Also I'm going to conduct a small experiment, putting up a Brindenford thread in order to make it enhance the possibilities for role-playing and interacting with NPCs and also get a better feel for your surroundings. You are welcome to post there as much or little as you like, as a supplement to the major game thread. Link

I think we should find a secure room and camp there.

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

A nearby room, with one way in and one way out? Perhaps something we can lock?

Female Elf Clerc 2

The one where we found the key comes into mind

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

You get into the room and lock the door behind you and then bed down for some eight hours.

Despite some fairly ominous noises from time to time, your rest is uninterrupted.

Female Elf Clerc 2

Channel before sleeping if possible keeping one in reserve
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16

Ok lets go back where the scorpion was and take the door

Makedonia awakes early and seems eager to return to the dungeon.

Kaduk rises to a start, thanking the healers again for the intervention.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

My understanding is that daily uses of spell-like abilities (like channeling) replenish after 8 hours of rest, as do spontaneous spell-casting (although no more than once in a 24-hour period). Clerics pray for spells in the morning, though, so Valynie won't have regained any spells, only channeling. Kwin can prepare new spells if he likes. Just to make it clear.

The door is unlocked and doesn't seem to be trapped. As you hear nothing listening at it, you cautiously open it.

The chamber behind it, a 30 feet square room, appears empty except for a massive, stylized lion face carved from stone glaring down from the high (20 feet) ceiling. The eyes appear to be glistening jewels.

Makedonia enters the room, looking upwards in admiration. "I wonder why this is here", she says while gesturing to the carved lion face. "Is this a god of whoever lived here earlier?" Lowering her eyes, she turns to the others, "In any case, it seems more than a coincidence that this dungeon has a few lions in it after watching this room".

How large is the lion's head, and the jewels? Does this look like an important room (walls, floor)?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The lion's head is about 2 feet across. The jewels look fairly large and possibly quite valuable.

Perception 15:

Spoiler:
There is a round indentation, the lip of a round stone slab, 10 feet across, level with the floor.

Perception 22:

Spoiler:
There is a small catch that seems to release the slab.

Are we officially looters and despoilers of artwork then ?
To clarify, I've got nothing against looting but defacing stonework ? While Shelyn is not my favorite goddess , her values are quite fine to follow.
