Well, it's just that I haven't found anything to suggest a secret lever or what not. If someone could keep an eye out, half of us could search the room thoroughly and hope to get lucky.

Kaduk's persistence pays off and he finds something interesting (as described above). Nothing finds you. For now.


Makedonia, having found nothing especially interesting, joins Kwin near the doorway, glancing back into the room to see if anything interesting is going on there.


There's a round slab here and a switch to boot. I think the switch raises it to become a column. Why don't I stand on it while someone else activates the switch. I'll get ready to jump off or grab the jewels.

Read the perecption spoilers above as Kaduk points them out. He'll ready himself on the platform if there's no other suggestions.

You're right. Probably wise not to tax the healers too much today.
Kaduk stands aside, ready to jump on if the column arises.

As you release the catch, the round plate (not a column as it turns out) of floor rises gently upwards, but stops a few inches above the floor. Kaduk easily jumps on to it.

Now what?


Kaduk jumps up and down seeing if the plate moves at all. Otherwise he looks at the jewels with a sigh..
Mebbe there's a different use for the plate?

Selina looks under the round plate or on the column to see if there is any writing or symbols. Take 20 on Perception for a 22.

Kwin continues to keep watch, but he's ready to use his bonded object call if Kaduk needs a feather fall as a result of his exploration.

As Kaduk looks longingly up at the jewels the plate actually responds. Unfortunately it does not move upwards but slams into the north wall. Kaduk needs to make a Reflex 18 save or fall off.

There are no symbols on or under the disc.


Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Well, that was half expected.

Kaduk can make an Acrobatics 15 check to land on his feet, or he'll take 4 points of damage. Or Kwin can use his magic on him. But you'll have to choose.

The stone slab hangs still, a few inches above the ground and adjacent to the north wall.


Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Maybe Kaduk was half expecting something like this to happen. Or he'd been foolhardy all throughout his life and recovering from mishaps such as this was second nature, but he landed and rolled with the impact, dissipating the fall.

Better check the north wall then, there's a reason for that.

Makedonia leaves her place at the door and moves toward the north wall, trying to find anything interesting there.

As you are about to establish that there is nothing particular whatsoever with the north wall, your search is interrupted by a strange sound. It comes from the large chamber to the north, and sounds like several voices arguing in different languages.

Sneaking northwards you are greeted by a horrible sight. Entering the doorway to the room with the dead scorpion is a slowly seeping mass of eyes, shapeless flesh and mouths, all yammering incessantly.

Kaduk quietly takes out his 40 servings of wandermeal and 2 rations and piles them in front of him, then he stealthily backtracks back to the others.

I hope Kaduk recognizes what that thing is.

She then takes a position behind the fighters, picks up a pebble and waits, staff in hand, her eyes fixed on the door.

That thing looks nasty, really. If we're to fight it we need all the luck we can muster.

Kaduk looks daunted at the prospect of fighting the beast, but if his companions are willing to face it, the chances of success is higher if he joins in.

Are you hoping to ambush the creature in the room and are there any buffs you'd like to apply?

If so, roll for initiative, and I'll get the map up.


I hope the thing poisons itself to death first.

Better beef up the fighters Selina and Yurggen? And tactics, we should rush in and hammer it down taking advantage of surprise.

Yurggen is still here. He's not much of a "scouting" type character, but lots of fun when the fur starts flying.

I got some sort of combat map up in case you want to just charge it, but feel free to modify before you commit to the battle, which is certain to be harrowing. Consider it a suggestion.

Other reasonable options are either to stay put and hope it goes away or to try to sneak away to the south. If you have another idea, let me know.
