RULES QUESTION: With the appropriate BAB, can you load a light crossbow as part of a move action in the same way that you can draw a melee weapon as part of a move action? They are both move-equivalent actions that provoke an attack of opportunity and seem similar in function (preparing your weapon). Just curious.
I don't see anything in the rules allowing this. Both actions are listed separately, so no. Sorry.
Caelin, there's just a little too much distance, and wagon, between you and the remaining wolf.
Erian just barely manages to stab the wolf next to him, but it remains standing.
Okay folks, time for me to head off to work. I work 12 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday, with an hour+ transit time each way. I'll check in when I get home. Enjoy your weekend.
Caelin O'Hern |
Caelin, there's just a little too much distance, and wagon, between you and the remaining wolf.
Well if there is that much space
Caelin turns around, "Oi! we done our part" pokes Angus "I killed it faster" laughs loudly, touching his amulet lightly "Wonder how everyone else is doing?"
Black Fang |
Angus moves to where he can see the last remaining wolf and fires his crossbow, dropping it.
Congratulations folks, you've all survived your first encounter and you haven't even reached the adventure yet. ;)
Do you gather all the bodies and take them with you? Most of the pelts can be salvaged. The wolves don't have much meat, but could be used to make a nice, if different, tasting broth.
As Caelin is scanning the area for additional threats, he notices movement along the palisade at Oleg's. At least one person moving.
Caelin O'Hern |
Angus moves to where he can see the last remaining wolf and fires his crossbow, dropping it.
Caelin makes a sour smile "Just luck, Angus! I will pay my debt anyway"points towards the palisade aat Oleg's "Oi! Theres movement on the palisade, probably one of the guard's" looks at Ilya "Well since yer asking! Let's gather them up, I'll skin them the best I can" smiles to Ilya
Survival check i suppose 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Gaelen The Ironfist |
I might as well help. This will gain us some coin. he sighs clearly disinterested in taking down these animals and attempts to help Caelin in the skinning process, wanting these skins to be in perfect condition so that this battle was not a total waste in his opinion.
Looked up and this should give a +10 circumstance to Caelin's roll which will make it 29 giving us one hell of a good skinning time.
Erian El'ranelen |
Erian watches Caelin and Gaelen assessing the wolf pelts, then offers his own advice, "With the trading post so close, we could likely take these inside and spend a bit more time on the skinning rather than field-dressing them here. I've skinned my share of animals in the past, so can lend a hand as well. They were starving, it seems, so the pelts may not be as healthy as we'd like. Anything we can do to maximize their use should counter some of that degradation." Looking toward their destination, he adds, "And milling about here might set those folks keeping watch on edge that we're up to something."
As there is no penalty for failure, we could take 20 on skinning these after getting to Oleg's in order to ensure a top-notch job.
Tam Hale |
Tam prods a dead wolf carcass with the tip of her boot before assessing the ongoing skinning effort. Since it seems to be in good hands for the time, she starts to check over her mare's wounds. The wolf had really tore into the poor horse. A worried frown creases her lips as she looks toward the others, "Bold wolves to attack such a large group. Must of been a hard winter. Hunger and the smell of fresh blood might bring other predators." Tam nods in agreement with Erian's point about moving onward to Oleg's as she bends down and picks up a pair of the untouched carcasses. She slings them over a shoulder with ease and holds her limping mount's reins with her free hand.
Black Fang |
After collecting the wolves, the party travels the last mile to Oleg's Trading Post. 1 square = 5 ft.
I expanded the map from the adventure because there's just to many of you to fit in the original map. The stable outside the palisade currently isn't being used. The brown wall is an earthen wall, 5 ft. high with some torch posts every 20 ft. or so. The overall look of the place is unimpressive.
As you ride past the run-down stable outside the walls you see the gate open and a human male standing there waiting for you.
"Well, I can see y'all can handle yourself's againt some wolvs, but wha're ya doing here?" The man asks when someone gets to 15 ft. from him.
Caelin O'Hern |
"Well, I can see y'all can handle yourself's againt some wolvs, but wha're ya doing here?" The man asks when someone gets to 15 ft. from him.
Makes a sour smile to Polson "Aye Polson, I pay the drinks tonight"points at Angus "Angus was just lucky, that's all there is to it" wicked smile in Caelin's face "Guess the sun DOES shine in a dogs arse sometimes" laughs and shrugs his shoulders "Well no reason to be angry about it, I'll be a poor man by the next sunrise with you two if I keep losing"
Afer approaching the man and hearing such a good advice from erian, I decide to go along with the idea and approach Oleg's place with the rest of the group
After approching enough to see someone come out to greet us I look at the man with a curious face"Oi! Might you be Oleg? Me and me freinds here would be happy to receive yer hospitality, and we also have business with you Caelin searches for the documents.
Gaelen The Ironfist |
"Well, I can see y'all can handle yourself's againt some wolvs, but wha're ya doing here?" The man asks when someone gets to 15 ft. from him.
"If there is something I will be paid to plunge my sword into it's chest, I'll gladly do it." Galen looks about and wonders why he even joined this group to begin with. He guesded strength in numbers, but this was ridiculous.
Just wondering. I realised that having favoured enemy as Goblinoid doesn't suit this character. Is it okey if I change it to Human instead? Makes more sense on his past.
It's probably good to ask this now, but what exp did we get from cutting up this pack?
Black Fang |
"Aye, I'm Oleg, Oleg Leveton. This here old border fort is my home and business. If y'all can behave yourselfs while here, I be willing to trade wit ye." Oleg steps to the side to allow those wanting to ride in to do so. He stops Xenos and has him roll his wagon of the path as there's not enough room inside for everyone and another wagon.
Gaelen only:
Everyone gained 200 XP each from the fight with the wolves. I forgot to say earlier, but we're using medium progression.
As the group makes their way inside a woman exits the house and says, "Welcome folks. I'm Svetlana, Oleg's wife. I imagine you could use a warm meal after your trip here. Where are y'all from? She goes about preparing a wolf and vegetable stew after Oleg's buys the wolf corpses from the party.
Party gains 85 gp credit at Oleg's Trading Post.
Oleg explains, "I'd like to pay ya in coin, but things've been a little...rough as of late." Oleg glances over a Svetlana quickly then continues, "Anyways. Beds are 5 sp a day, includes breakfast and dinner. Stablin' fer yur horses is 2 sp a day each horse. I'll deduct costs from yur credit. Y'all are a single group, yes?"
Gaelen The Ironfist |
Yes, we've travelled here for our own reasons, but banding together there is going to be very little to get in our way. For now though, I wish to ask if there are any bountys to collect on? Gaelen looked at Oleg, leaning over curiously as he wishes to know more and hoped that they would gain gold on a few bountys whilst here.If there are any bandits I will be more than happy to drive my sword into their chests for some monitary gain.
Constance Superne |
"Greetings Oleg, I'm Constance Superne, an Emissary of Erastil. You have my word that no one will cause trouble, lest they answer to me." Constance offers her friendliest smile to Oleg and anyone else in the Trading Post.
"And as Gaelen said, if there are any bandits we would be more than happy to... change their ways." Constance says the last line trying to keep from sounding like a savage ruffian.
Caelin O'Hern |
"Ale it is then gents!"
"I don't mind some ale or mead to go along"turns to look at Angus "I was lucky in the end after all, the sun DOES shine in a dog's arse" laughs out loud "Oi! Constance if ya need a hand with that"gives constance a pun intended wink "I'll be more than happy to put some scoundrels in their place, they give raiders a bad name" looks down with some sorrow "Well! you guys were saying something about some drinks and meals!?
Black Fang |
Oleg points to a board just inside the gate, "That there should tell you if anyone in the area has extra work for folks."
Perception checks.
Current posters: BANDITS, TATZLWRYM, TUSKGUTTER, KOBOLDS
At the mention of Erastil, Oleg turn's to Constance, "Keep your gods to yourself. If they can't help me rebuild this place, then they're no good to me."
Constance Superne |
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Constance looks at the board and after reading all four of the posting states to everyone, but mostly Oleg and Caelin. "I think the Kobolds and Bandits should take precedence, the other two are trivial. Oleg, what can you tell me about the bandits? Have you had any experience with them firsthand? What about the Kobolds?" Constance has a concerned look as she waits for a response.
Constance adds at the mention of Erastil, "While religion may not help you rebuild, I will do what I can to help you. I will never attempt to force my religion on you, or anyone else for that matter. I am no master carpenter, but I will try to help make the areq surrounding your trading post as safe for you as possible."
Tam Hale |
Tam grunts in greetings to Oleg as the trader welcomes them to his home. After the wolf carcasses are sold and small talk out of the way, she joins a few of the others by the bounty board. Tam reads each bounty slowly, mouthing some of the words aloud, especially tatzlwyrm. "That sounds interesting. A worthy hunt," she ponders aloud as she points at the tatzlwyrm bounty.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
Gaelen The Ironfist |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 and a +2 if human
I agree with Constance. We hunt the kobolds and hunters. I don't even see why there's a suggestion to form and allience with the Kobolds. Where I come from they're just runts ready to be killed. he looked at her with more interest now than the rest of the group. Someone who seemed to enjoy bloodlust almost as much as him, but he didn't want to press too far and points to the bandit one. How about we go for the bandits first. I havn't killed any bandits in quite a while.
Caelin O'Hern |

Apparently Angus is also deep in conversation with Caelin and Polson
Seems it's always the 3 of us ^^ lol
Caelin takes a grumpy pose after the comment from Constance "Well! We all have a favorite thing to do with this posters here you know!"after listening to Tam, Caelin shrugs his shoulders "Well Constance has a point about thieves, but tell me you wouldn't like HUGE boar, roasted and mead or ale, not to mention the free cheese!" looks at Constance "Oi! I was just expressing my idea ya know!"
Caelin O'Hern |
Surprised expression "Oi! the kobolds can't be that bad, let's see what the problem is first, besides there is probably nothing intresting with them anyway worth to raid their camp" smiles at Gaelen "I'm up for the bandits killing... er... teaching them manners or what ever" makes an evil smile.
lol Gaelen got post while I was making one so I just answered here
Constance Superne |
"With so many of us, I would almost suggest splitting up, However that might not be the safest thing to do."
For All to read.
Constance looks at Gaelen, "Kobolds are no different from any other race, aside from the fact that they uneducated, heathens. Caelin, of course I would like to have roasted boar meat and cheese, but it can wait, the bandits and kobolds can't I'm afraid."
Gaelen The Ironfist |
Gaelen laughs at Constance's statement about Kobolds being heathens.
Everyone has their own religion, Constance. I'm sure even the wild races have gods of their own. By that rule are we not heathens to them? he put to her, interested in hearing more. He knew not to start a fight with her since she had the powers and abilities of a paladin she could probably beat him down without much difficulty. I do agree with you. The roasted boar meat and cheese can wait. Bandits are probably the worst and there is always a chance they might have something we can use.
Constance Superne |
"Gaelen, I believe you misunderstand me, I call them heathens because they are uncivilized, not because they worship a different god. That would make them Pagans." Constance laughs at her little joke. "But I do not view them as Pagans, I do not expect everyone, or even anyone to believe as I do. Everyone has a right to worship."
Gaelen The Ironfist |

I take it religion is a large part of your life? Gaelen suspected from the way she acted she was a warrior of some kind and he seemed more interested in her since she showed interest in hunting and gaining money whilst the rest didn't appear to say much. Shall we rest here for the night before going after our targets? If so I'd like to have a drink with you, if you'll let me.
Constance Superne |
"Polson, you make a fine point, of course I do not plan on leaving right this moment, a hot meal and a good nights rest will do us some good. Besides I would love a chance to learn more about each of you since it appears we will be spending quite a bit of time together."
"Gaelin, of course we can talk. Although, I refrain from alcoholic beverages, a nice warm cider would do nicely."
Constance smiles warmly at each in turn, excited by the fact that she might actually be able to make a difference here.

ATTENTION EVERYONE! Here is a MAP of our journey so far. That is all. Continue regular broadcasting. :)
Ilya stables his horse, Uli, then joins the rest of the party in the commons area.
Everyone has their own religion, Constance. I'm sure even the wild races have gods of their own. By that rule are we not heathens to them?
Ilya walks up slowly during their conversation and stands next to Constance, "Savagery must be quelled, in the land, home, and mind. Not all men are equal. What is a man? Nothing but a creature that has learned to lie. So by what right does such a beast have to impede the march of empire? To divert the destiny of a people to his limited gain? Why must the multitudes tolerate the false tears of the craven, and be slowed in their strides by the grasping of the weak? It is no sin for the drowning man to rid himself of his bonds and surge to the surface. And so it must be with we who would be more than beasts."
He turns to Svetlana and Oleg and bows from the waist, "I am Ilya Shukhov, Knight of Iomedae. You've had problems with bandits?"

Shrug shoulders "Oi! before this endless rant about god and civilized, I rather have an ally that knows the place than an extra enemy, so as for the Kobolds I rather deal with them with a word and followed by my Reuze Klap if that fails" winks at Constance "Erastil forgive those that do not know his blessings"pun intended smile and looks at Polson "Yeah, this time the wolves pay our tab Polson, but I still have a debt with you and Angus" sour smile; Caelin thinks What a greedy lass this Gaelen[/b] smiles like remembering something funny [i]Well I rather raid a bandit camp to get some loot than some punny kobolds, what can those things have...
