I think he meant to double move:
Avril Axiel wrote:How did Harrow's actions work out?As I understood it, his standard action was a perception check.
GM Engleaktig wrote:Harrow espies two discs in the room.
I think you used to have a note on the map about where the crack was the archaeologists had inserted the disks...I don't see it now, but I'll double-move toward that location.
Mareq Bolthune
|
Mareq shouts at Husarq, "Go you buffoon! Begone! Perhaps another will be more useful to me."
And go get those discs! The Fires of the Ever-Engulfing Mordion should conceal you from this thing.
As he shouts this, Mareq casts his hands out and flame coats the efreet, who promptly melts away from sight in a horrid conflagration.
Casts Invisibility upon Husarq.
| Husarq |
Husarq moves to the discs while invisible. He hopes the gargantuan creature ignores him.
GM Engleaktig

The gargantuan fiend lashes out with all three of its tails.
ATTACK 1: Husarq
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Tail Slap Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12
Grab: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (4) + 37 = 41
Constrict Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 3) + 9 = 16
Husarq takes 28 HP of damage and has the grappled condition.
ATTACK 2: Uthred
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
Tail Slap Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6
Grab: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (12) + 37 = 49
Constrict Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 4) + 9 = 19
Uthred takes 25 HP of damage and has the grappled condition.
ATTACK 3: Harrow
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
Tail Slap Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Grab: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (4) + 37 = 41
Constrict Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 6) + 9 = 20
Harrow takes 28 HP of damage and has the grappled condition.
The party is up!
Harrow Tatterhood

Seeing no way to escape this titanic creature, Harrow reaches for something he had saved for just such an emergency, a potion of gaseous form.
Finding it in his bandolier, he quaffs it.
If gas could speak, it might sound like Harrow cursing in broken common.
Avril Axiel
|
Well, couldn't have expected that to hit, now could I? Avril curses inwardly as he blow glances of the creature. In the room she leans down along the side of Cryxial to grab one of the disks while Cryxial grabs the other in his mouth. Then with magical speed the two of them speed away towards the place with the slots.
"Hang in there!" She shouts out as she zooms past the others.
"Now, which disk goes in which spot?" She looks to Mareq.
Mareq Bolthune
|
"Excellent, Avril!" Mareq cries out when the woman arrives with her companion.
Reviewing what he knows from looking at the mosaic, and where the previous discs have been placed, Mareq takes them one at a time and puts them into the appropriate spot.
GM Engleaktig

Putting a disc into a slot is a full-round action.
If you:
- Move Action: Take Disc
- Standard Action: Begin Slotting Process
You can finish next turn.
However, before that happens, Avril provokes.
__________
Big Fiend:
Free Action: Drop Uthred
Attack of Opportunity:
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
Tail Slap Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12
Grab: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (15) + 37 = 52
Constrict Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 1) + 9 = 12
Avril takes 24 HP of damage and has the grappled condition.
Uthred is no longer grappled.
If Avril wishes, she may drop her disc in an adjacent square for others to slot.
Avril Axiel
|
Are the positions on the map accurate? Avril/Cryxial will happily yield the discs to anyone who can put them in slots.
Uthred Wartooth
|
Uthred screams out in pain from the attack and then screams out in anger over being grappled... then screams for joy when he is suddenly released... then he grabs what was dropped and tries to complete the task to the best of his ability...
GM Engleaktig
|
Ugh. This thing has combat reflexes...
The tail that no longer has the gaseous Harrow lashes out at Mareq
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Tail Slap Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9
Grab: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (19) + 37 = 56
Constrict Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13
Mareq takes 22 HP of damage and has the grappled condition.
Uthred begins the process to slot a disc.
Berosius has not yet acted this turn. He may act. Then the fiend will act.
Avril Axiel
|
Avril is at 15, Harrow is at 20, Husarq is at 11, Mareq 17. Everyone have been updating their taglines so it's easy for you to check (except Mareq who haven't had time yet). Do you still have lifelink up? I don't recall it being ended.
Berosius
|
So I've got spectral hand going and can deliver a cure serious wounds anywhere in the room, but a lot of people are hurt. I wish I had my Life spirit up for the Life Link, but I don't. Channeling is less healing, but to more people. That's the way I'm going to go.
"Blessed Milani, be with us now in the hour of our need!"
Channel Energy and Beacon of Hope (deselect fiend): 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 12
BEACON OF HOPE+2 morale bonus to attacks, saves, skills, ability checks for those healed by your channel.
GM Engleaktig

OK. The fiend is going to maintain it's grapple on Avril, Husarq, and Mareq in that order:
Avril
Maintain: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (10) + 37 = 47
Constrict: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16
Husarq
Maintain: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (8) + 37 = 45
Constrict: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14
Mareq
Maintain: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (6) + 37 = 43
Constrict: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 1) + 9 = 15
Uthred will finish slotting the 3rd disc this round. After that, there's one more disc to go!
The party is up.
Avril Axiel
|
For the people trying to take her disks, Avril will give up her disk before Cryxial's. "Take mine first, since I'm grabbed."
The uninjured Cryxial slots in one of the disks, assuming he's able. Better I take a hit than you. I'll be back if I go down, while you won't.
If Cryxial starts the turn with a disk he can actually get it all the way in, if he's actually able to slot it in.
Mareq Bolthune
|
Uthred screams out in pain from the attack and then screams out in anger over being grappled... then screams for joy when he is suddenly released... then he grabs what was dropped and tries to complete the task to the best of his ability...
Uthred already picked up one of the discs and began slotting.
Mareq Bolthune
|
Mareq also indicated he was taking a disc and slotting it. Of course, this assumes there was a disc. Did Cryxial give it to Mareq? Did Avril drop one and THAT was the one Mareq?
Is taking a disc something that provokes an AoO?
Avril Axiel
|
I imagine Cryxial putting it in with his mouth, but if he needs arms for it, then nevermind. Then he definitely gave it away. Did the grapple stop Mareq from putting his disk? If it didn't stop him then both should be halfway. I guess Mareq has one disk and Uthred the other.
Mareq Bolthune
|
How does everybody feel about 18d6 fire damage? I could have Husarq detonate himself. ;-) But then, this guy appears fiendish, both in description and visually, so... probably immune to fire. I guess I won't blow everybody to kingdom come.
GME: please clarify where each disc is right now. I plan on summoning Earth Elementals within the the floor or wall to place the discs from BEHIND the slots/within the walls, thereby remaining unattackable by the snake fiend.
Harrow Tatterhood
|
Okay, I'm trying to figure out how to help best. Are the last two discs already in the process of being slotted? Is there another I need to get? I'm in gaseous form, so could probably reach it pretty safely...thoughts on a best action? Some coordination could potentially keep us all alive.
Mareq Bolthune
|
Mareq closes his eyes and concentrates. With his inner eye he can see the swirling, fiery bonds of energy tethering his thrall, Husarq, to this plane. His mind sharpens and cuts through the bonds linked to Husarq and pulls the ends of the planar tethers until
Earth Elementals, small: 1d3 ⇒ 1
an earth elemental's brown toned energy appears to Mareq. The ifrit opens his eyes upon the Material Plane and sees... nothing. The elemental remains within the walls. Good.
"ਡਿਸਕ ਲਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਨੰਬਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਮਕਸਦ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ!" he cries out.
Looking closely, he barely sees two hands of mud, stone and dirt reach from the wall and take the disc from Cryxial's mouth. They disappear back into the wall and the disc seems to slot into its anointed place.
Avril Axiel
|
@Mareq: Casting a spell or using an SLA while grappled requires a concentration check of 10+CMB+Spell level. That looks to come out to exactly DC 50 since the creature has been making grapple checks at +37...
@Harrow: How does Gaesous form work? If it prevents you from being grappled then making your way over to the disk to start to slot it seems like the best course of action.
@GM Engleaktig: Can Cryxial use his action to hand Harrow the disk so he only needs a free action to recieve it and doesn't provoke from doing so? That way Harrow can use a move action to get over and a standard to start slotting this turn.
Uthred Wartooth
|
Uthred will do what he can to slot the disks, not sure what else there is to do regarding this obstacle.
Berosius
|
Harrow won't be able to pick up the discs while in gaseous form. Suggest he no longer needs it.
Berosius will wait to see if the discs get slotted. If not, he'll help. If so, he'll heal.
EDIT: Okay, given what GME said, he'll slot.
Berosius accepts the disc from Cryxial and slams it home into the slot.
Harrow Tatterhood
|
Okay, if we have all the discs we need already, I'll float over toward where we put them in the slots (double move is only 20', though). If there is still another disc to retrieve, I'll double move toward that. I do think I'm prevented from being grappled, since I'm insubstantial. Don't blow on me, though.
Mareq Bolthune
|
EDIT: Okay, given what GME said, he'll slot.
Berosius accepts the disc from Cryxial and slams it home into the slot.
Wait. Given the inability to use a SLA while grappled, Mareq will change his action, if GME is OK with that. I'm assuming it will be better for us for you to be available to heal.
If ok:
Mareq cries out, "Thrall, come here!"
Husarq cannot resist Mareq's call and suddenly vanishes from the fiend's grip, appearing on the ground, adjacent to his master.
"SLOT THE DISC, YOU FOOL!" screams Mareq from within the coils of the creature.
Maker's Call is a supernatural ability and usable without a concentration check while grappled.
Avril Axiel
|
Berosius can 5 foot closer and if Cryxial gives him the disk we can get both disks slotted this turn. As he would still have a full round left. I don't think any of those things provoke. Husarq would have to move first, which means he would finish next round. Edit: Missed the part about Maker's Call. That means Husarq would have all his actions left, leaving Berosius free to heal, which sounds even better.
"Nice Uthred. Now someone come here to slot the last one." Avril says in a pained voice as the tail of the creature constrict around her. Cryxial hands of the last disk.
Avril readies herself to batter away an attempt to grab someone trying to slot in a disk.
Readied action to aid another for AC.
Aid another: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
If I'm reading things correctly Avril is currently at 11 HP, Mareq at 14 and Husarq at 9, is that correct? So it might be nice with some healing before we try those things as for all we know supernatural abilities or slotting the disk could provoke. Uthred is now up to 34 and Harrow at 32.
GM Engleaktig

Either way--whether it's Berosius or Husarq or Uthred, the 4th disc gets slotted!
The panels fuse into a single piece that cannot be broken without literally millennia of work. At the same time, a wave of magical energy washes through Starwatcher Tor, automatically dispelling any ongoing effects created by the fiend.
The fiend is pushed back through the door along with the golem.
The doors immediately mend themselves and reseal--allowing only a momentary glimpse of the golem raising its fists to fight the fiend.
The crack in the wall (from the other side) gradually seals.
The ivory sphere dims.
After being freed from the fiend, Juliet Dias thanks the party profusely for coming to her team’s rescue. Additionally, she shares some of her Azlanti research notes.
The flail that you could not identify is Slitherbane. This +1 heavy ail has a heavy ball etched with images of stylized eagles and sunbursts and has the special purpose to slay serpentine creatures. Slitherbane empathically encourages its wielder to enter melee with serpentine monsters and to distrust serpents of any kind.
Combat over.
Scenario over!
The results have already been reported. I'll post links to your chronicle sheets in this thread in the next few days.

Congratulations and thanks everyone. That was the most exciting and nerve wracking fight I've been in.
3 brutal battles, two puzzles and 2/3 scenes where we could roleplay heavily, I don't think it was particularly short. Though we could certainly have made more out of the role play parts.
