"What an awful bunch of creatures...surely they were created without noses," Egil says after it wears off.
"Is everyone ready to proceed? Perhaps we should try this door to the south."

![]() |

Vlazis wipes his mouth on a fine linen handkerchief and nods at Egil.

GM DevilDoc |

Leaving the troglodyte carcasses where they lay, the team moves to the southern door where they listen without hearing anything. Cautiously, they open the door to the next room. A brazier of glowing coals sits in the center of this room, its acrid smoke mixing with the ever-present troglodyte stench. A few knives, pokers, and other metal implements lie atop a rusty iron box nearby. Standing near the brazier, is another troglodyte, this one ready and waiting for you. Although still looking young, he is much larger than the creatures you have faced so far. He launches a javelin through the open door at Theon as he stands there in surprise! Thankfully, it bounces off of the door frame and doesn't come close to the man.

GM DevilDoc |

With one mighty stroke, Theon steps forward and cleaves the troglodyte nearly in half. The creature stumbles for a step or two before falling to the side to breath its last. Now that you have a moment to evaluate the room, you see a chest sitting near the box of torture implements and a door on the north eastern wall.

![]() |

We should tread carefully with that chest. Skai, if you please.

"Of course," she says, as she finishes at the door.
"Now what do we have here?"

Theeon abruptly turns and retches all over the floor as offal spills from the cleaved troglodyte, filling the air with a scent even more overwhelming than their natural odor. After a moment he removes a handkerchief from his pocket and wipes his mouth. "...I thought they smelled bad on the outside..."
While Skai deals with the door and chest, Theon takes a moment to stick his head into the other room for a short breather.

GM DevilDoc |

As Skai begins to search about the room, she puts her ear to the next door and is able to discern a slight movement from the other side accompanied my a metallic clanking. She then moves to the chest but doesn't believe that it is trapped. Loryndahl takes a second look at the chest as well, but concurs with Skai's assessment. Zarzuket follows this up with a spell looking for magic. A faint intermingling of several auras emanate from within the chest to his magically enhanced sight.

GM DevilDoc |

The chest is locked. Looking at the chest, it is pretty solidly constructed and would take some time and a lot of noise to break open.

GM DevilDoc |

There would be a much simpler and time effective manner of opening the chest.. no one searched the troglodyte..
Casting around, the group decides to check the body of the large troglodyte that lies in the middle of the room. They find little of interest outside of a heavy ring of iron keys. Shrugging, Skai moves to the chest and quickly finds the right one to reveal the contents.

![]() |

Is there any inscription?

![]() |

"Well, let's take this stuff with us, and see what is making the noise behind the door."
Skai takes the bow and arrows, thinking maybe she can make use of them.

GM DevilDoc |

Skai takes the bow and arrows, then turns to the remaining door. She finds the door to be securely locked, but with the keys now in hand she is able to quickly remedy this situation. Pausing to ensure the others are ready, she throws the door open.. to find a human curled in the corner of a small room and manacled to the floor. As the light from the room washes over him, he throws his arms up before him and cries out in surprise and an expectation of pain.

![]() |

"Calm yourself, sir, we are not your captors. Stand if you can and we will remove your restraints." He nods to Skai to use the keys to undo the shackles. "What is your name, sir?"

GM DevilDoc |

The man slowly lowers his arms and squints in the light that he is obviously unaccustomed to.. Slowly a look of hope replaces his fear. "My.. My name is Balenor! I'm a Pathfinder.. Thank the gods someone found me!" Relief and hope color his words, but are unable to erase the bruises and marks of a hard capture and harder imprisonment. He lifts his hands as he is speaking, helping you to reach the locks.

![]() |

My Master and I are happy to provide it. Vlazis withdraws his wand of infernal healing to ease Balenor's pain.

GM DevilDoc |

RP only..
The man gratefully accepts the healing, and is able to stand up and assist you in getting the manacles off. Stepping out of the room, he casts his gaze around and finally settles on the open chest of gear. "Thank the gods for your rescue.. and they didn't hide my gear!" He quickly begins to don the items from the chest, talking as he does so. "I think I have been locked in there for a couple of days now. I was the first to reach the tower after the earthquake, but those damn beasts were already here. I think they came up from somewhere below the ground level and were trapped when the earthquake sealed the stairway down there. They quickly captured me, and although they haven't really done too much, they have beaten me regularly." At this, he turns towards the body of the large troglodyte and spits in its direction. "From what I have been able to gather, these bastards wanted me alive as a sacrifice to their gods." Finishing with the gear left in the trunk, he begins looking about worriedly like he is missing something.

![]() |

Is there something you're missing? There is still more of the tower to explore.

GM DevilDoc |

"My bow and arrows seem to not be here, but everything else is.." the man says.
