Baldwin the Merciful's: Treasure of Chimera Cove (ACG) (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

Chimera Cove lies at the southern tip of a rocky and storm-swept cape projecting into the Inner Sea, in a no-man’s-land between the great nations of Cheliax and Andoran. The three islands sitting just off shore do little to block the sea’s relentless swells, but they do effectively anchor the persistent coastal fog, making local navigation perilous. The fishermen who settled this grim seashore decades ago have a knack for maneuvering their catboats to and from their spindly docks, but no merchant ships dare use the treacherous cove, even with a launch. Few outsiders find the settlement’s steady decline in recent years surprising, wondering only at why the place was ever founded.

Bug, the whirlpool is between those two points. the passage beginning at AC:34 is the other passage that has yet to be explored.

Consume Spells is a move action, so I suppose I could canabalise a level 1 spell in round 4 and zip back over next round. Still, is there a pressing reason to do so?

Consume Spells:
At 1st level, an arcanist can expend an available arcanist spell slot as a move action, making it unavailable for the rest of the day, just as if she had used it to cast a spell. Doing this adds a number of points to her arcane reservoir equal to the level of the spell slot consumed. She cannot consume cantrips (0 level spells) in this way. Points gained in excess of the reservoir's maximum are lost.

Quiz shackles his head and says "I don't know what to do, can anyone see where Poultr is?"

Is it possible to see the water elemental to engage it?

Evil GM

Bug scoots along the narrow walkway and moves into the last tunnel. Xavier follows. "No reason to stay here."

Updated Map for Bug Only

Bug:
When you make your way through the tunnel you come across another canal. To the right is a cave in and the canal is blocked but to the left it continues on. You do note there is a small hole that appears to head back to waters where the reflective pool is located. At this point the the lower channel is filling with water but looks like it is already thigh high on you.

Male Gnome Arcanist (occultist) 8 | HP 44/44 | AC 15 (19 w/Mage Armor) | +5 fort +6 ref +8 will | +9 init +8 perc | Resource Tracker

Quiz shakes his head, converts a lvl 1 spell to 1 arcane reservoir point and ports himself back over with an eloquent sigh.

He will head left.

Evil GM

Rena follows bug and Xavier down the tunnel and Quize slips in behind Rena. You all see the lower channel it is filling with water but it doesn't apear high enough to threaten anyone -yet - but Quiz looks a bit nervous being smaller than the others. Those that arrived into this area can read the spoiler above for Bug and look at the Map for Bug.

Bug takes off to the left.

Evil GM

After about 10 minutes you arrive at the Goat's underground area to find the oubliette filling with water. remember this is chimera shaped.

The channel opens into a huge pit at least one hundred feet across. A horizontal geyser of water shoots from a fissure in the far wall thirty feet below the channel to blast into the opposite stone wall and fall into a swirling froth eighty feet below. The water level is rapidly rising. At the bottom of the pit drifts the partially decomposed corpse of an enormous beast. You see Poltur standing looking down into the pit he has his rapier out. He glances for the pit to you then back to the pit.

Make nature or survival check if you have it.

From my POV that'll be in less than 30 seconds, and I'm sure it'll kill most of, since we'll be weakened from our own fight." the ground rumbles more. "If we aren't dead by then this cave will kill us within a few minutes - either by drowning or by collapsing." He glances over at Bug who looks jumping. Male Gnome Arcanist (occultist) 8 | HP 44/44 | AC 15 (19 w/Mage Armor) | +5 fort +6 ref +8 will | +9 init +8 perc | Resource Tracker

Quiz looks at Rena for a moment and slowly a grin forms, "Actually that's not a bad idea. Only thing is I need to be able to communicate with whatever I summon otherwise it'll just go on a mindless rampage. Rules out dolphins and elementals."

The smile fades and with a sigh Quiz explains, "It's got to be a water mephit, that's about the only thing that can swim really well that I can talk to. They're smart enough to speak common but they're a nuisance, you see they think they're funny..."

Quiz takes one look at the state of the ceiling and gets to it. First he must convert more spell energy into a form he can use for the summoning. The process looks painful but it mercifully fast. Then he begins the summoning process chanting strange non nonsensical words while weaving an abstract design with one finger.

With slight splash, a small watery humanoid creature with thin, leathery wings, small horns, and a mischievous smile appears.

Before the creature can act, Quiz tells it, "Somewhere at the bottom of this oubliette is an amulet, bring it to me. There's also a creature down there, avoid it at all costs!"

Move action: Quiz converts a level 4 spell to 4 arcane reservoir points.
Standard action: Quiz summon a water mephit with a Skilled (Perception +8) evolution so it has +14 perception total.

The mephit shrugs and submerges into the water without a ripple, and descends cautiously, searching for an amulet.

Somebody should do a statistical analysis of Rena's dice rolling. It surely can't stay bad forever.

We have a couple people in our local PFS circle who have reputations for unnaturally bad die rolling. On one occasion one of these players was running his monk and the baddie threw a baleful polymorph at him. It was even one to turn him into a fish, so the save was at +4 (if you polymorph someone into a critter which will get you killed merely for existing, there is a bonus). He rolled a 1 on the fortitude save. He had a reroll, he rolled a 1 on the reroll. Then to cap it he rolled a 1 on the will save and thought he was a fish to cap it off. That takes talent.
