since it is an immediate action to cast Liberating Command, can i cast it on myself as i enter the webs? If so, that is what the second roll is for... that is of course only if the first roll fails.

![]() |

@Varian: No. You cannot use Liberating Command on yourself. Well, you can, but it won't do anything as it's an immediate action to cast and then allows you to use its ability as an immediate action, but you already burned that. Mahasi can do it on you, though, and if he does, then you can use the above roll. However, he is not close enough to do so before Myre's turn.
The necromancer tries to fight through the end of the acidic pain to cast a spell at the nearby Varian!
Concentration vs damage DC 15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Deaglan then tries to shoot the man again, but the webbing provides enough cover to prevent your strike from hitting this time.
However, Mahasi's missiles strike true!
Concentration DC 25: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
He REALLY wants this spell to go through.
Despite the party's best efforts, Myre finishes his spell and points at the trapped Varian, a black ray shooting out at him! "Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!"
Ranged touch @ grappled Varian: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

But the same webbing that protected Myre from Deaglan's bolt saves the aasimar from the life-suppressing bolt.
"Won't you die?! Nothing'sh gone right since it's been freed and I won't let you rapscallions stop Rupman MYRE!", yelling in anger as [ooc]all of his clutch rolls were for naught the party slowly closes in on the old man.

@Varian: You are grappled in the web still and cannot swing at Myre (since you have a 2H weapon and cannot use those while grappled). You can try delaying to see if someone can liberating command you, but otherwise I'll need a CMB/Esacpe Artist roll as a standard action to break free of the webbing. And note that also moving further into or out of the webbing will force the DC 20 CMB/Escape Artist check to not be grappled again.

Varian, may I have permission to damage you? I will heal you later. The damage will be 3-9 points
If Varian agrees
Mahasi moves to toss an alchemist's flask to clear out some of the webbing. It looks like it will have an unfortunate side affect of scorching Varian in the process...
[spoiler]
attack square, DC 5: 1d20 + 5 - 8 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 8 = 0

The flask lands at Varian's feet and he takes 1 pt of fire now and 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 fire over one round as the webbing burns away. It will burn away the red circle as indicated on the map.
If Vaian doesn't agree, Mahasi will liberating command him as a standard. I notice that Varian has lib. command as well - do you want to use it on Owai once you are free? (spread out the spell usage a bit)

Seeing that the flames from Mahasi's flask are taking care of the webbing that blocks her shot, Shilyn knows Varian will be in her line of fire as soon as the flames and webbing are gone.
Shouldering her bow, she carefully slips back down the rope to the floor and join the others.

@Mahasi: All of the acid arrow rounds are complete already, thus the lack of the additional concentration check. Note that so far, you are the only one to damage the guy :)
@Owai: With that roll, you are actually stuck in Mahasi's webbing, and will take the appropriate penalties. Your attack roll is still solid and will strike the man with the flat of your blade.
The party makes their way to the necromancer with both aasimar getting within striking range.
Deaglan's bolt is narrowly missed as he tries to avoid hitting Owai, whose blade slaps against Myre's head. Varian's hammer glances his shoulder. Of course, Myre's cursing cannot be heard as Deaglan's magic suppresses sound.

Sorry for ignoring this; RPGSS eated a bit of my times.
Deaglan and Mahasi wait anxiously.
The tentacles finally fade away, freeing the zombies and the others to approach.
Myre can only try and reduce the upcoming onslaught of attacks by trying to touch Owai.
Myre touch @ Owai: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Once again, Myre comes up short.
The upcoming beatdown that will ensue is far greater than Myre can handle and he is knocked silly. Meanwhile, the remaining zombies are easily dispatched as they clumsily make their way up.
Ending combat as Myre has been effectively neutralized and can't do anything significant, even if it takes another round. Assuming he is being left alive.
The stench of the vats remains as the party gets a chance to relax, the unconscious necromancer at their mercy.

Looting Myre, the only thing of interest on his person are a pair of rings, a scroll, a blue potion, two sets of keys (one that bears many keys, and another single key made of simple steel grey metal, and 135 gold worth of assorted coins.
It's a ring of counterspells (that the GM forgot about since it's on another page module so I missed it); it currently has magic missile imbued in it.
This is a ring of protection +2. However, it seems the ring was bonded to Myre as well; while it won't work for anyone else, keeping it will make his spellcasting far more difficult.
It's a scroll of gentle repose, with three castings on it.
It's a potion of cure moderate wounds
The last room of the vats is locked; using the massive keyring on Myre (not the individual key), there is one that fits the office lock before Shilyn can work her magic.
Inside is Myre's bedroom and study; the desk contains a journal that describes his time exploring the catacombs underneath Carrion Hill.
"The Numerians were keen to be away after ransacking the Hill, as the scale of the tunnels below daunted them. They kept finding more and more parts of the old libraries behind false doors and secret rooms. Eventually, they decided to simply flood the tunnels, but this failed them, too, for the ancients were keen intellects, and their tunnels do not flood easily. It is possible the whole series of chambers such as the Sunless Grove lie waiting to be uncovered."
The journal contains more anecdotes, including the discovery of the Pnakotic Manuscripts, Myre's excitement at the prospect of contacting 'keen intellects beyond the human shell', and the last entry from a few days ago that says, "Tomorrow, the Old Gods shall speak once more, and we Keepers shall in attendance learn from them."
Beyond the journal, there are customer ledgers, a sack of 100 gold crowns, a fine set of ivory writing instruments worth 100 gold, and Myre's spellbooks (which mean nothing as there are no wizards/alchemists/magi in the party).
[ooc]To the Mayor's to drop off Myre? Do you also choose to rest?

Depending on how much time we'll spend in the room, Shilyn can take 20 on the Spellcraft (+8) to identify items if needed.
Making her way carefully into the room with the others, Shilyn takes a look around. "Um, what are we planning to do with the two zombies still stuck in the vats?" she asks the others as she casually picks up a ring to examine.

Take 10 on spellcraft
"A bonded ring... worthless to us, but it will prevent the necromancer from casting easily. Here is a ring of counterspells, enspelled with magic missile. A scroll of gentle repose and a potion of cure moderate wounds." Mahasi announces after studying the magic items.
In response to Shilyns prompting, the Vudrani responds. "I can deal with the dead." He'll then apply the disrupt undead cantrip until they remaining zombies are disposed of.
Returning to matters at hand "So this area is riddled with caves and tomps of hidden lore. I am sure the Dark Archive members will be delighted. Perhaps we should ask the necromancer for information regarding what he learned from his misbegotten god."
