Just focus more on the effect, since we are using the Inherent bonus rules, flat number increases don't do much extra for us. Sometimes it helps to find the shtick you use and find items that either make it easier or more powerful.
Maybe something that increases your mark in some way, or extra defender type bonuses. If you can apply status effects, find a way to add to them. If you knock prone, or force movement, look for item powers that enhance that aspect.
I can't give you specific names, but if you go to the Compendium, and do a search for one of your keywords in the items section, you can get some decent results. Narrow the search down to 5th lvl only and it will single them out much better. I go into CB, to equipment page, and just look for the appropriate level item through each category. So when I find it, I can just add it to my PC, and it will update it for me.

Hey, Aubrey, I have a question about my item.
It is a lvl 4 set of poison gloves, that allow me to store poison (my shtick), can I spend the difference between them and a lvl 5 (160 gp) and also get 8 vials of Bloodroot poison (20 gp apiece)?

Lovely weather, lovely wedding, horrible hangover. Success!
Calla picked out a Reinforcing Scale Armor +1 (Grants +1 bonus to all defenses when struck in melee)
I think that the '+1 to all defenses' should stack with the inherent bonuses, but please let me know if I'm wrong about that. It's a level 4 item, so I also picked up some antivenom and some alchemists acid.

Just feel the need to reiterate given his personality. The hard part about playing a bit of a jerk.
There's no ill will from me toward Calla and Gorad, just Arakan has his own reasons for disliking them.

Only temporarily. Technically I got married in Yorkshire too, but about half a mile from the boarder, and the ceremony was performed by Lancashire officials, so I don't think it counts.
We have the bleach bath ready for our return ;)

Sorry for my continuing silence. I'm a bit stressed and busy and while I have some time to post, I've got a bit of writer's block - i.e. I don't have the space to think about what's going to happen next. The situation should resolve itself soon.

Guys, with respect, it was your idea to ask for equipment. So ask. We aren't going to go anywhere if you don't act. If I might say, you are extremely apathetic as a group, and seem loathed to actually make decisions. You tend not to try unless I prompt you and even then you seem less than keen. I guess that you don't want to impose on one another but we would go much more quickly if you would put up opinions and discuss them rather than wait for someone to tell you what to do. It is not my job to tell you what to do, it is my job to tell you the consequences of your actions. But if you make no actions, we are going nowhere fast.
For me there are two things causing this. First is a complete lack of knowledge of 4e/Darksun. Which is improving, but is a bit of a problem at this point. The second is that it's taken a while to get into the character of Jareen, but I think that's about sorted by now.
I can't see anything we actively need, other than possibly to replace a bit of starting equipment that we've lost. And some rations, since we are in a desert.
Anything else?
Worst case, I will be posting in roughly 12 hours when I get into work, in character, so speak before then!
Aubrey the Malformed |
Guys, I'm looking at the play thread and who posted when. Irivis and Calla haven't posted since the 19th and 20th of November, which is over two weeks ago. Gorad hasn't posted in-character since the 19th, and his single ooc post since then was two words long.
Now, I understand that people often have other stuff to do. But so do I, and if I'm going to commit to running a game I do need people to post, and that isn't happening much. Silence isn't golden, and I can't read your minds. I haven't done this for a while in my other games, but I am considering getting new people in and asking some of you to leave. So please tell me if you are interested in continuing or not, and also if you reckon you can post most (not all) days or not.
Nevynxxx |
When I'm in work I check anything from once, to three times a day. Weekends vary, either not at all, or a few times a day.
I don't often go away, but when I do, I let you know.
If I'm not posting, it's because I don't have anything useful to say usually ;)
Aubrey the Malformed |
OK, slightly disappointed to receive a single response here, although Jareen and Arakan seem to be posting in the main thread. But I think we need some new players to keep the posting rate up to replace Irivis, Gorad and Calla. I'll leave it another day to allow people to say something if they disagree, otherwise I'll post something on the Recruitment section.

Hi all.
I got to play in a 4e Dark Sun game a while back, but it died out after a month or so... I've been sitting on my Thri-Kreen Barabarian hoping to get to play him again.
Anyways. I'd love to join a 4e game and DS is a very interesting campaign setting.
If you have need of another striker I'd play Th'Kal (none of this is set in stone if it doesn't fit with the current campaign):
DESCRIPTION:
Unless you are a Thri-kreen or have spent a fair amount of time with one, you wouldn't really be able to tell Th'Kal from any other Kreen. He is a golden-brown, wears several axes about his body, and occasionally wears human clothing (as close as possible, as a way to fit in with his human family that raised him).
BACKGROUND:
Th'Kal would have been born in the Sand Wastes south of Urik, and may have grown up in sevice to its grand army. Fate had a different plan. His unhatched clutch was stumbled upon by a trade caravan. For whatever reason, his egg alone was spared. One of the Melokot drivers, Ajaj, raised and nutured him. Ajaj gave him a traditional Thr'Kreen name, Th'Kal (a name he had heard in the markets along their journey) -- it was supposed to be Thek'aal and mean "strength", but the humans of the caravan have a hard time pronouncing Kreen, and it has slowly slurred to be Th'Kal ("rage") a name better fitting him anyway (a few members of the caravan now even call him Kal for short... which is meaningless in Kreen but Th'Kal accepts it because it makes his human-pack happy).
Th'Kal was born with his racial memories (that's how he knows the Thri'Kreen language), but lately his instincts towards the "clutch" have surfaced. His instinctive desire to find a tight-fit group to call his clutch is what lead him to join the party. Ultimately he still feels alone, but when an assorted group of companions, he feels himself being drawn to them. Perhaps it is just outsiders attracting outsiders, but perhaps it is something deeper, perhaps his racial instincts or some latent psionic power is telling him to bond with these new outsiders...
CHARACTERISTICS:
Th'Kal was raised by humans and not Kreen - while he has all his racial memories and thus knows what it means to be a member of his race, he still tries to "please" his human pack. He often tries to wear human clothes, or immitate human action, or even talk "more <click> hooman"... but a large 4-armed bug is not the easiest thing to pass for a human and when Th'Kal gets angry he has been known to lash out with his lower arms clawing everything around him. It kinda makes you stand out.
Th'Kal has been "alone" for a long period of time (eternity for a Kreen). He has developed his fighting skills to fit in with the humans and fulfill a needed role (and he's good with an axe!). He may seem defiant at times and other times completely loyal, but you'd need to understand how he sees the pack's leadership... he's just plain odd to most.
If you need any other role in the party, I'm also more than willing to jump in and play anything else (I've played most types in other games at one point or another and can generate a character fairly quickly).
Ps. I can generally post frequently.
Let me know what you think.
Furio Tembo |
update:
Furio is 1st level; I'm guessing I should make him second level.
Haven't read the game thread YET; bounced around a little; gathered we're in Tyr or thereabouts.
Brief rough draft of Furio's story:
Furio was a gladiator, owned by a Tyrrian merchant.
When the revolution started, the merchant's bungalow was raided by (I saw a small snippet about Tyrrian gangsters) toothcutter elves; Furio got released and immediately started inexplicably defending the merchant and his family.
The leader of the elven robbers (a la Tom Cruise's first fight in Last Samurai) was intrigued by the mul's fascinating penchant for ODDJOBS!!! ODDJOBS!!! coupled with his total lack of making any sense (to an anarchist free spirit elf==wtf is this guy defending this a+&!&++ merchant/slaver for? is he CRAZY???), and decided to take him hostage.
He found out that a lifetime of slavery had left Furio brainwashed into thinking that the owner was his buddy. So,.....he did the Patty Hurst protocol on Furio, brainwashing Furio, and turning him into a Legbreaker for the toothcutters.
THEN, the toothcutters inevitably got hit by somebody (don't know who yet); Furio survived the gangland violence of it all and slinked off into the underworld of Tyr.
He's kinda confused by it all right now. He's like a wolf that grew up in captivity and has no idea whatsoever what to do once he's been released into freedom.
So he's bopping around Tyr or whatever, trying to keep his belly full.

Heathy, looking good. However, I might suggest a potential change to fit in better, but I'm a bit pushed for time now so I'll run it by you tomorrow.
Mur/Th'kal - sounds fine.
For both of you - we are second level.
That's cool. This is all in the brainstorming stages anyhow.
Furio Tembo |
Sit Rep:
leveled up to level 2, with my fingers on the piece re: feat and powers, which I'm perusing at my leisure.
need to finalize my char sheet re: weapons, and type out how the powers work.
Also, need to see what Aub's potential fit change is, and see if Furio has any more equipment/coin coming his way.
Also, working on skimming the game thread; might take a few days.
Note to all involved:
I'm about ready to go here. I'm probably not going to post anything Tuesday this week, as I'll be at work until possibly 10 pm. After that, though, and after I get Furio finalized/cleaned up, I'm ready to rock and roll.

I think Aubrey was going to update what you read.
We were heading to Tyr (from Balic), but ended up in Altaruk. We are about to leave, going East (I think), to find a defiling orb to destroy for some benefactors (pretty sure they are Veiled Alliance).

So, I reckon that in Tyr, somebody saw him whomping some other guy in a back alley over a stale marble rye and gave him a job as a caravan guard to Altaruk; Furio said "what the hell," and headed over there;
unless you got something better?.....just brainstorming.Aubrey the Malformed |

Hi, Mur. Had more of a chance to look at Th'Kal's background - I have no real problems with that. Like Heathy, I'll suggest something to get you more into the game as it stands.
Aubrey the Malformed |
OK, the PC's are currently in Altaruk, having narrowly avoided being blown up by a meteor strike that seems to be caused by a powerful defiling ritual. So you guys need to consider why you might be in Altaruk. It might be an idea to read the play thread to get a feel for what is going on - it's not too long.
