Cole. |
My understanding is that those failed grapple attempts mean he's free to make use of this round's actions as he wishes. Let me know if i've gotten it wrong, somehow, Aubrey.
“Into the trees!” Ashshar hisses as he raises his shield, doing his best to wriggle and squirm into a more defensible location.
Ashshar goes full defensive and moves to C.13 (provoking AoO’s from pretty much all the lizards in that area). His AC is 19 for this round.
Cole, however, continues his rush up the incline and towards the pitched fight. Quickly scrabbling up over the lip of the incline, he bellows another wordless warcry as he snatches the handle of the massive blade from over his shoulder. In one efficient move, he slides free from its sheath and slams down on the nearest lizard warrior in a meteoric vertical strike.
"PORTFORGED!" he roars without taking his eyes from the immediate fight, "WHAT'S GOING ON DOWN THERE?!"
Accelerated Climb, DC 5: 1d20 + 4 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 5 = 15
That puts him at the top of the climb with 10ft of movement left in a single move.
He uses that movement to close to D.14, drawing his greatsword along the way. Then he’ll Power Attack L.10.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 1 = 25
damage: 2d6 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 + 3 = 15
Cole. |
Aubrey, in your early description of this new group of lizard-dudes, you mentioned that L6 “looks fairly bad-ass” with a breastplate thing made from turtle shells. Are there any other standout combatants in this group? Or just the one? Gotta prioritize Cole’s attacks, ya know.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
L7 and L8 wil take the AoOs on Ashshar. L9 and L11 will see if Rehil tries the same trick.
L7 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 to hit, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
L8 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 to hit, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Not sure how many hit points Ashshar has right now but I think that probably puts him down.
Ashshar collapses, already weak from blood loss and shock, as he is felled by the claw of a foe.
Cole erupts up the slope and promptly fells another lizard warrior. Through the bushes he can see another battling Nalverren. It turns and snarls at him.
Draconic:
No offence, Nalverren.
L10 down. Nalverren.
Nalverren |
5ft step to B14 and take a shot at L6
shortbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Rehil Ecraish |
That last round of attacks brings Rehil to 9 hp.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Rehil Ecraish |
Rehil was on the left climbing up so E16 or 17 makes sense.
Portforged |
Barely concious, and slumped against the ground, Portforged strains to focus its mind. Finally able to concentrate, it lets go of the ground and vanishes, reappearing standing next to Rehil's bag.
Nomad's Step to E16
As quickly as possible, the combs through it, searching for healing fruit to feed to Vaard.
perception (if needed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
You find the healing fruit, no problem.
The poisondusk archers notice Portforged's sudden resurrection. One shoots at the warforged, the other at James, hoping to send both him and Will on a tumble down the slope.
P3 shoots at James, P4 at PF
P3 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 4
P4 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 4
Hmm, looks like PF's resurrection was brief.
The shaman and his crocodile companion haul back up on the bank once more.
Will.
Rehil Ecraish |
Rehil pulls his long blade free of the dead lizardman and spins to attack on his right.
Will, if you wait one initiative count then maybe this will clear a path for you.
If L11 is already dead, then L9

9 hp, 2 action points left.

Action points don't give you an extra action (oddly enough) - you are thinking of 4e. However, your rolls are very good, so...
James chomps one lizard warrior and brings him down. He scrambles up on to the top of the rise and Will smashes his club down on another. Rehil finishes that one off with his blade.
L9 and L11 down.
The lizardfolk step over Ashshar (basically L7 is in Ashshar's space - I moved Ashshar primarily so we don't forget him) and engage Rehil and James.
L7 attacks Rehil, L8 attacks James

L6 delays.
Cole, then Nalverren.
Cole. |
Seven feet of arcanically-fueled, adamantine-reinforced, built-and-trained for combat war machine roars defiance back at the lizardfolk champion. He takes a thunderous step forward, pivoting to bring as much power to bear as possible.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Step to C.13, power attack on L.6. I'm rolling as if a full Attack is possible, but I don't believe a 5' step would be possible in the dark green. If that's the case, simply ignore the bash.

Cole's mighty blow isn't enough to fell the lizard-warrior.
Nalverren takes a -4 penalty to hit for firing into a melee, and consequently misses.

The crocodile lumbers over to where the slumped form of Portforged lies at the base of the cliff. The crocodile opens its jaws and siezes the warforged's head, closing firmly to hold it fast, as the shaman barks commands. The shaman then yells out in its high-pitched voice:
Draconic:
You may respond out of initiative order.
Rehil Ecraish |
Rehil stiffens as he takes an arrow in the back, but he dare not turn his attention away from his melee foe.
That hurt. 3 hp remaining.
Was it Asimov who said that robots couldn't die, you can always rebuild them?
'sides Rehil doesn't speak Draconic and he's too busy to listen to some scratchy high-pitched hissing.
Cole. |
"He says to surrender or he kills Portforged!" Cole says as he looks for another opening in the lizardfolk champion's defenses. "Don't know if he'll honor the, though."
He roars back at the shaman in draconic.
If it were Cole's turn in initiative, he'd still be attacking at this point. He has no reason to believe the little creature won't kill them anyway. From Cole's perspective, the shaman's only requesting a surrender because the little guy doesn't have the fight in-hand.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
The little shaman replies:
Draconic:
The lizard warrior opposite Cole hisses:
Draconic:
Cole. |
Cole relents, his blade's tip dropping to the ground. "He says he'll spare us." Again, he switches languages.
I certainly don't want to get anyone killed.
Rehil Ecraish |
Hearing Cole, Rehil steps back and to the side, leaving his sword pointing from one outstretched hand toward his opponent. Without taking his eyes from the lizardman opposite him, he asks Cole, "And you believe him? He probably just wants to keep us fresh for the pot.
His other hand slips into his belt pouch and gropes for his cure light wounds potion.
Nalverren |
From the forest at the cliff top, Nalerren yells down,
diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 4 + (2) = 22
Nalverren |
"They want to take us to the chief of the finbacks." Nalverren translates to common for the other party members to hear.
Rehil Ecraish |
"Easy, Will."
Rehil ceases his search for the potion and eases the sword into a guard position over his right shoulder.
"He takes us to the chief for what purpose?"
If his opponent similarly relaxes, the elf lets the blade dip to rest on his shoulder.
Nalverren |
a lot of talking, ill use my turn if necessary
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
The shaman curses, then barks a command to his crocodile mount. The crocodile bites down, hard.
Coup de grace on Portforged, 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 damage and PF makes a DC 18 Fort save or dies instantly. Might be time to try out those action points.
You guys weren't in the best negotiating position.
Assuming the outbreak of peace is now over, back to initiative. Will.
Portforged |
Yea, if you are losing by a lot then you don't have much to negotiate on.
As the crocidile's fangs plunge into its body, every wire in the core of Portforged shakes, trying to keep itself alive.
Spending an action point...
fortitude: 1d20 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (5) = 13
With a final hum, the shards powering Portforged's backup circuits cracks, and its internal processes halt.
Portforged is dead. Destroyed. Finished.
Portforged |
Had Portforged just attempted to flee instead of helping Vaard, it might have been able to escape alive with a combination of Burst and Nomad's Step. It would have meant abandoning Wultram and Vaard to being either captured or killed, which it didn't want to do. Had it known how its 'allies' would react, though...well, it may have just run when it became clear we were losing:P
Rehil Ecraish |
...
Assuming the outbreak of peace is now over, back to initiative. Will.
Looks like a fight to the death now.
Rehil is still staring at his opponent. He doesn't see the reptilian jaws close on Portforged's head, but the reaction of his Cold Sun opponent to that sight is sufficient to put the elf back on his guard....
I'll wait to see how Will's attacks fare before acting.
Rehil Ecraish |
Faster than his opponent Rehil's blade rises and slashes downward.
Curve blade, fave enemy, action point: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 + (1) = 12 ... damage: 1d10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16

And luck deserts us

Cole.
