Oh sure, just let me carry the whole party. I see how it is... here goes...

Sense Motive: 14 + 7 = 21. :D

Rayne quirked a brow at the halfling and sighed. "Your deception is about as good as your hospitality, sir. I ask you again, where can I find Harmal? I need only ask a few questions of him. You would do well to answer truthfully. My benefactors are keeping a very close eye on me," Rayne gestured vaguely to the air, implying a scrying. "I wouldn't want to have to involve the Watch in your little arena business here. That wouldn't be very kind of me."

The changeling let loose a positively fiendish grin.

Bluff: 16 + 15 = 31. Awww yeah.

Hooray - you have really pissed him off! It's mashing time! I'll post when I get to work.

Male Shifter (Longstride) Barbarian 2/Fighter 1

gulp...

The halfling’s face twists in rage as Rayne accuses him of lying. “You walk in here, insult my people, demand to know my business, threaten and insult me. I cannot tolerate that, no matter who you work for. The Watch won't interfere - that's what I pay them for. So I’m so glad your ‘benefactors’ are in the loop. They can have a good view of you screaming in terror before you die!”

He sneers and lifts his hand, giving a signal to someone you cannot see. There is a clunk from the door behind the party as it locks, and then the big door opposite swings open.

Inside it is dark and shadowy, and only a quiet snuffling noise can be heard. Then a figure, slightly stooped but still at least 8’ tall, resolves in the gloom as it slowly steps forward into the arena. Shaggy, matted brown fur hangs from its limbs and torso, and its hoofed feet crunch on the sand as it emerges into the light. It its hands it holds a gigantic flail, and its bovine head swings round slowly as it sniffs the air, ears twitching. Its horns gleam bone-white.

The halfling grins down from the gallery, and barks at the minotaur, “Gaz, teach them a lesson in manners!”

Spot check, DC 15:

Spoiler:
You notice that the eyes of the minotaur are white and milky. Given the way it moves slowly and cautiously, and seems to be listening carefully and sniffing the air, and isn’t actually looking straight at anyone in the party, you surmise it is probably blind.

OK, the arena is effectively a rectangular pit, 30’ by 50’. The gallery is 15’ above the level of the arena and 10’ wide, and the walls of the arena are made of glazed brick and therefore very tricky to climb (DC 30 or so).

In coordinates, it is A to J left to right across the top and 1 to 14 down the sides. The arena itself occupies the middle portion of this space C-H/3-12, with the outside portion being the gallery. The door the minotaur came in is on the wall at E-F/3, and door the PCs came in is at E/12. The minotaur is standing at E-F/3-4, the halfling boss is at E2 and his heavies at D2 and G2. Please place yourselves somewhere in the bottom half of the arena, in one of the squares in the range C-H/7-12.

Roll initiative.

M Elf (Aeranal) Cleric 2

Initiative 20, Spot 24 -- now I roll well. Sheesh.

Unfortunately, I was probably toward the front. Call it D8.

M Hobgoblin Monk 3

Shagraat's spot is 23. Init is 18. Initial placement is D12.

Shagraat shouts to his companions, "That creature is blind!"

Spoiler:

As stated before, my intended first action is to use Urthona's help to make a jump attempt (AP assisted) to try to carry the fight to the halflings immediately (and keep the xbow heat off my allies). I don't know if this means I delay until Urthona's turn or not?

Male Shifter (Longstride) Barbarian 2/Fighter 1

Spot, Initiative (1d20=17, 1d20+3=11)

Place me at C10.

Jump assisst (1d20+6=16)

After that I'd like to move to the front in full defense and shift on -> AC 25 and put myself in harm's way of the Minotaur, "Come here, cow. We'll milk ya.". Ulp. Intelligent use of rope anyone... please? Grease? Help!

Male Human Sorcerer 3

Spot (1d20+3=18)
Init (1d20+2=5)

Maybe I need to use a different roller?
Place me at F8, I am assuming that my talking took the place of the readied action, or that it doesn't count as it was done before we started init, either way, I ain't doing a thing for a while except keping quiet!

As the doors open, and the minotaur steps out, shock fills Colvare, he has never seen such a beast, and he freezes in shock.

I have a map, but I don't have anywhere to host it at the moment I'm afraid! Sorry chaps.

Aubrey, we can see the heavies, how are they armed? i.e. do we need to worry about a hail of arrows/bolts too?

Female Half-elf Beguiler 3nd

Spot 15+7 =22
Init 5+1=6

Mirra glares at Rayne as the doors fly open. "Great, way to save the day." she snarls at the changling as she reaches for her sword.

Put me in E8

Colvare wrote:

They have crossbows. However, they don't seem like they are about to attack you, more enjoying the spectacle.

Varies (tends towards Male) Changeling Warlock 3

I was probably in E7... :(

Rayne levels an incredulous gaze at Mirra. "Oh yeah, like you were helping!"

Init: 17 + 2 = 19. Spot: 3 + 1 = 4.

Waiting for an initiative and position from Benedetto.

Rayne wrote:

Children, please!

Female Half-elf Beguiler 3nd

He started it!!

Final initiative chart:
Hamathin 20
Rayne 19
Shagraat 18
Gaz the minotaur 12
Urthona 11
Mirra 6
Colvare 5
Benedetto 4

Benedetto is standing at the back at E12.

Hamathin is up.

M Elf (Aeranal) Cleric 2

"Deathless preserve us!" Hamathin cries, touching his holy symbol. He then draws his longsword, steps forward, and prepares for the worst.

Bless, catching everyone. +1 to attacks. 5' step to D7.

Varies (tends towards Male) Changeling Warlock 3

Rayne quickly backpedals as the cleric steps forward, sending a streak of eldritch flame at the minotaur.

Move to E10. Eldritch blast: 9 + 2 + 1(PBS) + 1(bless) = 13. Hopefully that'll hit the touch AC. Damage: 1 + 1(PBS) = 2. :(

Rayne's magical blast hit the minotaur and scorches some fur. It growls but doesn't seem mortally wounded.

Shagraat.

M Hobgoblin Monk 3

Come fly with me!

Shagraat steps lightly into Urthona's proferred 'leg up'.

Spoiler:

I put this behind a spoiler because I'm not sure if I'm supposed to delay this action until Urthona's turn.
Jump attempt is 10 + 2 + 4 (Action Point) + 2 (aid from Urthona?) = 18. If I can get a hand on the railing, I attempt to pull myself up. Climb attempt is 7 + 4 = 11. Sweeeet!

You will need to delay until Urthona's go.

OK, for Shagraat and Urthona on Urthona's go:

Spoiler:
Urthona's assist doesn't just give you a +2 to your Jump roll, it also means you can reduce the necessary DC to that required for a standing jump of 10', instead of 15' (i.e. you benefit from his height in lifting you up). In addition, since you are only trying to grab the rail to climb over, and you are (at least) 5' tall yourself, I will assume that the effective jump distance is 5' (i.e. you can reach up and reduce the extra 5' distance by your own reach and height). Per the PHB, the DC for a high jump is 4x the distance to be jumped, or 20 in this case. If you don't have a 20' run-up, that DC doubles to 40 (i.e. effectively impossible) so I recommend you get a run-up in. With all this in mind, I suspect you failed on this attempt but can try again next round, assuming a minotaur isn't using you as a blunt weapon.

Assuming you make the roll, it will be a DC 15 Climb check to drag yourself over the parapet and on to the gallery level.

The minotaur shuffles forward, listening and sniffing. It suddenly lashes out with its flail, clubbing Hamathin to the ground. The halflings in the gallery guffaw.

14 points of damage. The minotaur has moved forwad 15' to E-F/6-7.

M Hobgoblin Monk 3

Thanks Aubs. So I'm assuming I'm to use the rolls I've already made.

Shagraat takes a couple quick steps and leaps up the wall, propelled partially by the barbarian's help. The tips of his clawed hands just rake the handrail, but he's unable to get enough of a hold to hang there and falls back to the ground.

Tumble check to avoid falling damage: 8 + 7 = 15 (whew!)

Shagraat rolls as he hits the ground, avoiding damage. He glares up at the midget spectators for a moment, then refocuses on the lethal monster in front of him.

Male Shifter (Longstride) Barbarian 2/Fighter 1

No AOO for Hamathin? (only if the Minotaus is moving diagonally to the right and then to it's last squares e-f/7-8)

The aid for Shagraat was a Standard action?

Shift: On

If yes: move to D8 in the most defensive way (Total defense, if possible) and move silently.

If No: move silently to D8 and strike at the Minotaur.

If this action pulls an AOO from Gaz, it will be his last for the round giving the othersa chance to help hamathin andmove out of the way..

Move Silently(Shift on);Attack (if applicable with Action Point, Bless); Damage (1d20 4=11, 1d20 5 1d6=22, 1d8 4=9)

After the move, if he was not hit by the mino with an AOO he calls out to the mino: "Come here, cow. We'll milk ya." waiting for the minotaur to strike at him...

AC=21 + applicable boni for defenses, if no attack was made.

No AoO for Hamathin - it simply walked up to him. And yes, aiding Shagraat was a standard action.

I'm a bit confused by all those dice rolls - could you explain what they are? Tell you what, now you know how that land lies action-wise, please explain what you are doing definitively and use your dice rolls as you see fit.

Male Shifter (Longstride) Barbarian 2/Fighter 1

Shift: On -> AC 21, 50ft speed

Move Silently to D8 in the most defensive way.

Move Silently(Shift on with Action Point used the same roll but redistributed the results and changed the Move Silently bonus down to 3) (1d20+3+1d6=7+3+4=14)

If Urthona is not hit by an AOO:

Spoiler:

Urthona says: "Come here, cow. We'll milk ya." waiting for the minotaur to strike at him...

If Urthona is hit by an AOO:
"Ouch."

Male Human Sorcerer 3

Spoilerified action as it's bedtime now and nearly my go....

Spoiler:

Colvare moves as carefully as possible away from the Minatour, muttering under his breath as he goes, with a jesture of his hand, he casts a ball of fire at the Minatour.

Move Silently (1d20+2=11) placing me in H8, as far away from it as possible.

Conectration Check (DC 16 for a level 1 spell) 1d20+1=18, Damage 1d8+1=5

The minotaur swings its head, ears twitching, as Urthona creeps forward. The flail sweeps out again, but swooshes through empty air where Urthona had been standing a second or two earlier.

The halflings laugh derisively at Urthona's jibe. "Yeah, Gaz, you useless farm cow," one of the ruffians jeers, "Stop chewing the cud and try hitting these guys," while the other makes mooing sounds. "Stop playing with them, Gaz," snarls the boss.

That's Gaz's AoO done. Let's hope he doesn't have Combat Reflexes. Sense Motive, DC 12:

Spoiler:
Gaz seems pretty stoical, methodical and calm, not the ravening, frothing beast one might expect from a minotaur gladiator. And while his cow-like face isn't especially expressive, you get the distinct impression that he really doesn't like these halflings.

Now Mirra.

Female Half-elf Beguiler 3nd

Mirra watches the minotaur as her companions make their first moves and she realizes that the creature is just entertainment like the rest of them.

Feeling sorry for the beast Mirra just takes a step away from it and starts casting.

Casting message on the minotaur.

Mirra quickly whispers to the creature "Our fight is not with you let us work together and leave these cruel halflings. Let escape this place together."

Diplomacy 15+5+6(action point)= 24

(You ought to roll to hit if that was an orb spell.)

Can blind creatures even take AoOs? Aren't we treated as having full concealment? Or is it not actually blind?

Sorry Aub, that was a magic missile....auto hit.

And just realised that was the wrong thing for damage, hence the confusion!

Try this instead....Damage for Magic Missile (1d4+1=2) How did I guess?

Concealment has no impact on AoOs that I am aware of. Plus he has Scent.

Just for future reference - from the SRD:

You can’t execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies.

However, I could see that Scent might override that as long as we were within 5 feet, so we're all good. :)

Cool. I wasn't giving him AoO's for anyone unless he was within 5' anyway. I was hoping to kinda keep it secret, so you might just work it out from the way he was acting (like walking within 5' of everyone before attacking) but I guess if there is a rules query I have to clarify. :-)

Benedetto is up next. I'll give him some more time to post, then DMPC him.

M Elf (Aeranal) Cleric 2

Might be hard to find the next couple days -- next action is to spend an AP to stabilize

Male Human Ardent 5 / Flayerspawn 1

As a swift action, Benedetto coats the minotaur's flail in ectoplasm, blunting its damage (deaden blow, the creature gets a Will saving throw to avoid the effects.)

For the rest of his action, he will stay close enough to the rest of the party so that he might take any damage that would drop an ally. (Guardian mantle ability.)

Gaz's flail is suddenly coated with sticky goo. The minotaur confusedly shakes and sniffs his weapon.

Hamathin spends an AP to stabilise, so it is now Rayne.

Varies (tends towards Male) Changeling Warlock 3

Continuing to step back, Rayne snarls and snaps his hand up at the minotaur, releasing another gout of purple flame.

5' step to D11. Attack: 16 + 2 + 1(PBS) + 1(bless) - 4(into melee) = 16. Damage: 2 + 1(PBS) = 3.

Shagraat.

M Hobgoblin Monk 3

Shagraat closes with the minotaur by moving to D6, then attempts a stunning fist attack.

d20 + 2 + 1 (bless) = 20. If a hit, d6 + 2 = 5, and he must save vs DC 12 or be stunned for 1 round.

Shagraat bound forward and focuses his ki. He then releases it in a blow to one of the shaggy creature's chakra points, between heavy, slabbed muscles in his furred torso. Gaz suddenly staggers back, dropping his flail, nostrils flaring and head shaking.

Gaz loses his action, so now it is Urthona. Oliver said he would be away but in touch intermittently, so I'll give him a little time to post.

Male Shifter (Longstride) Barbarian 2/Fighter 1

Attack with Action Point; Damage (1d20+4+1d6=12, 1d8+3=6)

Double the minimum... at least.

Urhona uses his longsword to swing at the minotaur.
