I'll give a more detailed desciption later (I think I'll go back to bed in a moment, weariness have overcome me once more - God, I hate jetlag) but the corridor bends here and is not a smooth, worked tunnel but more a narrow cave with shallow alcoves and small boulders the hide in or behind (probably not enough to warrant a complicated map but enough to allow Hide checks). And it is probably between 10' and 15' wide at this point, narrowing down to about 5' wide where the sound is coming from.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Sounds like we might want to set it up right here, then. Take cover!

Runzyl grins wickedly at the announcement of the approaching patrol and speaks quietly.

"I will serve as bait. If the rest of you can hide or," the elf regarded Lightbringer, "at least remain around the corner out of sight, perhaps they will be bold enough to think themselves capable of bringing down a lone elf. When they approach, I will leap over them to pin them in and the rest of you emerge to flank them. What say you?"

I'll hide.

[thoughtbubble]what a lousy time to cut a fart![/thoughtbubble]

OK, sorry for the delay. This cavern essentially comprises a widening of the tunnel, with odd alcoves and so on. The floor is uneven, preventing charging and increasing Tumble check DCs by 2. At the far north end, the tunnel is 5’ wide and low, and it bends off north-west. At the south end is the trap which Trose disarmed.

Coordinates – A to E run west to east, 1 to 25 north to south. Usable space is as follows: A1, B/2-6, B-C/7-10, A-C/11, A-D/12-16, B-D/17-18, B-E/19-20, A-E/21, A-D/22-23, C-D/24-25. (I hope that makes sense – obviously, query if it doesn’t.) Anything not mentioned here is unusable unless you can walk through rock. The corridor continues beyond A1 and C-D/25. The trap is at C-D/24-25. The noises are coming from beyond A1. The ceiling here is about 8’ high, though it lowers substantially to about 4’ beyond A1. Place yourselves as you desire.

Runzyl stands at B8, weapon ready.

"Wait for my signal to emerge. We will flank them quickly. They will not escape."

He then turned to Ezreal. "Wizard, do you have some way to prevent them from leaving if the do not take the bait? Perhaps that webbing thing you've used in the past?"

What the Jump check DC to clear a Small creature's head if I can manage a running start? I know I'm gonna provoke AoOs for sailing overhead, but I'm counting on Mobility to mitigate that a bit. If the positioning is right, I can do an airborne Spring Attack against one to negate one of the AoOs. That'll be awesome!

It would, if a tad unlikely - that would be a compulsory Action Point to even consider attempting it, a bit like LB's bombing run. You would need to clear 4' or so, since these buggers are mounted on giant rats.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Rod is at a12. Arek a13, Bool a14, Ceshto a15.
Gnarly at d13.
I'm thinking LB @ A11, Janosz @ d12, Trose @ c7, not sure where to put Ez w.r.t. his spell ranges. What do y'all think?

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

I'll take D13 behind Janosz. Range for the web or mm is no problem. I can go up to 140' for those. It's the wand and Ray of Enfeeblement with the suck ranges, but probably won't be an issue here after they are boxed in.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Sounds good to me. Let's do it!

hp 73 of 156; AC 23 (29); Fort +15, Ref +8, Will +13 Warforged Paladin 9 / Exorcist of the Silver Flame 4; Effects: Bless, Airwalk, Weapon of Awe, Ironskin, Bull’s Strength

Positioning sounds good, but Lightbringer urges Runzyl to move back – positioned where he is we don’t have a lot of room to manouvre and flank, and if his spring over the top manouvre doesn’t work, they’ve basically got a narrow tunnel to escape down. Also, keep in mind there may be a lot of them, possibly too many and too closely packed for Runzyl to leap over – I would lure them further into the cavern.

We hood our lanterns and douse torches. Runzyl should bear a torch that he can drop to the floor (free action?) as soon as the action starts – no doubt they have already seen our light source, so it would be mighty suspicious if all suddenly went black.

Right on. Then Gnarly's at e13.

At Lightbringer's suggestion, Runzyl will back up to B11 and bear a torch, ready to drop it when the fight starts.

Not sure if you want Init for this scene Aubers; if so: 18

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Good idea. Initiative 12+3=15.

Choom at A16?

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

init r 7.

Init: 1 + 4 = 5. Wow, sucktastic.

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

init 14+2 = 16

Creeping around the corner of the north end of the tunnel, crouched low in the saddle as it rides a giant rodent, comes a kobold, a crossbow in its hands as it guides its mount with its skinny knees. Almost immediately, it chitters, raises a hand to signal someone as yet unseen and begins to rapidly back up.

If you speak Draconic:

Spoiler:
"Ambush!"

The kobold is not surprised by anyone. Initiative:
Gnarly - 23
Choom - 22
Lightbringer - 18
Trose - 16
Janosz - 15
Rodergo - 7
Runzyl - 5++
Ezreal - 5+
Arek - 5-
Bool - 5--
Kobold - 4
Ceshto - 2

Gnarly immediately opens fire, with two shots in rapid succession from his repeater. Both hit the kobolds, and it cries out in pain. However, it continues its reverse course, yelling in its language.

If you speak Draconic:

Spoiler:
"Back up, you cloacas! Back up!"

Choom simply cowers in place.

Now Lightbringer.

Quickly realising that something has gone wrong with their ambush – no doubt they were spotted before the trap could be sprung – Lightbringer leaps around the corner, drawing and nocking his bow as he goes. Moving past Runzyl and next to Trose, he fires at the mounted kobold.
Move to C8. Attack:18+4 = 22. Damage: 5+2 = 7

You are up, LB - maybe amend the post above. Forgot you can post in the evening now - didn't expect you until the morning.

I'm full of surprises! I'll amend the post above - since I rolled for the alphabet brothers too ... what is the position of the kobold - can LB reach him in melee, given that he can't charge over this terrain?

The kobold is at B4. By the way, I put Gnarly at A16 since E13 is unavailable.

Hit?

The kobold slumps in the saddle as Lightbringer's arrow hits it in the chest, but the rat mount continues to retreat.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

On my turn, I'll shoot it twice. Attack roll 1: 9+6+1(PBS)=AC 16, damage 6+2+1(PBS)=9. Attack roll 2: 12+6+1=AC 19, damage 5+2+1=8.

Janosz's arrows hit the rat in the head and flank, and it keels over and deposits its unconscious rider on the cave floor.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

is it my go, or Trose? If my go, cast shield of faith on Lightbringer.
Be you girded in flame, let it smite away all harm.

Oops, just noticed that Trose should have gone before Janosz. Ah well, it's Trose's go.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Can we see who the rider was yelling at?

(lol) I wasn't sure if he didn't post and the post disappeared...

No - they must be round the bend of the tunnel.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"After them! If they escape, they'll warn the main camp!", Janosz hisses. He waves at Ruzyl, "Go! Go! Go! I'll be right behind you!"

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

Sorry for the delay...

I miss with my crossbow (unless they are AC 7)

In a flash, Runzyl charges ahead, keeping the torch in hand.

Running as fast as permitted down the tunnel (and around the corner if necessary). If I need to hurdle the dead kobold and/or mount, Jump check: Nat 20! + 7 + 4 (40 base speed) = 31. Woo-hoo! If I run across anything, I will attempt to jump over it if space allows and trap it. If I run into something... well... there's not much I can do about it.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

This is no good. I can't web without getting Steelsong and I wouldn't know if I got all the scouts until it was too late. I need to know what's back there...
"Kadesh-" Ezreal digs in his pack as he instructs his raven companion, "I'm going to charge you with electricity. Get around that bend and use the charge if any of their scouts are getting away."

MA: Retrieve Scroll of Shocking Grasp
SA: Cast with Kadesh as recipient
Kadesh-
MA: Fly (Double Move 80') Should get him just around the bend.

Spoiler for Runzyl:

Spoiler:
Runzyl dashes round the corner and, in the gloom, he sees two more mounted kobolds busy trying to escape in the opposite direction. The tunnel is fairly narrow - about 5' - and the nearest kobold is about 20' away.

What are you doing for light? If you don't have a light source (I think you put it down) you won't be able to see much further.

Spoiler for Ezreal:

Spoiler:
Kadesh flies down the tunnel, but Ezreal rapidly picks up feelings of confusion and distress. Kadesh is adapted fo above-gound conditions, and cannot see in the dark.

Arek and Bool are next.

Aubrey:

Spoiler:
Re-read my last post. "In a flash, Runzyl charges ahead, keeping the torch in hand." The light source is with me.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

AREK: "Where him go?"
BOOL: "Guh?"

They take off after Runzyl; don't know what they see yet.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

on Ceshto's turn:
"Boah, waydup. Immul gitchew."

He'll take off after them too (unless something crazy happens).

Spoiler for Runzyl:

Spoiler:
The kobolds disappear down the tunnel into the darkness. Meanwhile, Runzyl can hear the thunder of feet as the three half-orcs and Gnarly dash up to assist him.

They will be about 20' behind you as they have slower movement - much slower, in Gnarly's case.

EDIT: Noted your spoiler - you need to use both hands to use your weapon, and if you drop your torch it will go out. You can just about keep pace with the riders, but you are the only one - the others will get left behind if you pursue.

Spoiler for the main group:

Spoiler:
Gnarly and the half-orcs run after Runzyl and disappear round the tunnel bend. Choom is his normal useful self: "Rat-riders gone yet?"

Now LB.

hp 73 of 156; AC 23 (29); Fort +15, Ref +8, Will +13 Warforged Paladin 9 / Exorcist of the Silver Flame 4; Effects: Bless, Airwalk, Weapon of Awe, Ironskin, Bull’s Strength

Lightbringer lumbers off after the half orcs, ducking his head and hoping that the tunnel opens out again ahead. “Make sure someone keeps an eye on Choom,” he says to Trose before he goes.

moves as far as he can after the others.

Spoiler:
Yeah, I know I need both hands for the sword. I'm.... really not sure what I'm going to do at this point. Keep running, I suppose. Maybe I'll be able to overtake the riders... or maybe they'll get cocky and try to face off against me when they get enough lead. I dunno...

Spoiler for Runzyl:

Spoiler:
To catch up, you need to make a STR v STR roll v the rats. For each point by which you beat them in a round, you draw 1' closer to the nearest rat-rider, and for each point by which they beat you they pull ahead 1'. You are currently 20' behind, and can keep going for a number of rounds equal to your CON before you have to let up (as do they). All the while, help falls behind by 20' a round, since the rest of the party moves at 30'. Want to try?
