Rolund lifts his sword overhead to shed more light down the tunnel. “Looks like we’re walking.”
“Master Frogshanks, you’re eyes are the best among us. Possibly even more so with the crystals. Can you see if there are any dangers ahead of us?”
“And Bor, I hear your sense of smell is quite keen. Can you smell if they went down the tunnel?”
| Runzyl Steelsong |
Runzyl spends a few minutes suiting up in the newfound armor. He stretches and hops up and down a few times to get a feel for his mobility in it. Seemingly satisfied, he gathers up his things and dons the protective amulet as well, his skin tightening almost imperceptibly.
Updated character sheet with new items. If someone is keeping a party loot manifest, you can add my chain shirt +1 to it. Otherwise I'll just add it to my personal inventory for resale later.
| Gil |
Gil will follow suit, farther back from Janosz, but on the other side of the tunnel. You realize "she" has altered her appearance and looks just like him now, except for the lack of a bow.
Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 additional +3 vs traps
Wow, what a roll.

OK, that's not confusing.
Wow, what a roll.
Always best to get the 1's out of the way first.

The adventurers begin moving cautiously down the tunnel. In the dim, flickering light it is difficult to see to see far ahead. Sections of the march are through pools of darkness in which only Janosz and Runzyl can see clearly. The brick-lined passage also turns, cutting off the view ahead beyond a few tens of feet.
Janosz:
| Sir Rolund ir'Kraal |
“If it hasn’t seen the light from my blade, then it must be blind,” Rolund comments. “Sounds like the Caretaker.”
“Basher, in my pack, there’s a sack that I want you to take out carefully,” instructs Rolund. “When the Caretaker appears, throw it at it.”
This would be the bomb constructed some time ago. 3 flasks of alchemist’s fire, 2 flasks of acid, and three flasks of oil altogether.
Also how far can it be thrown and what if any penalties are there to the attack? I'm not sure, frankly. Probably a range increment of 5' and a burst radius of 10', doing 3d6 fire and 2d6 acid. Using grenade rules it is probably more dangerous to you than the enemy, but that's you call.
| Lightbringer |
Sorry, been a bit flakey on this one.
Lightbringer realizes he probably has little chance of hiding. He stays where he is, sword at the ready, making himself (probably along with Bor and Basher if nobody else), the bait in the trap while some of the others prepare an ambush. Given time, he quaffs his potion of shield of faith and casts bull’s strength on himself. He also begins detecting evil down the tunnel ahead.
| Janosz Frogshanks |
Janosz mutters a quick benediction before disappearing into a pool of shadows.
This seems like a good time to test that newfangled APG ranger spell Gravity bow; if the newcomer has any kind of DR, I need bigger damage units! Stealth check 11+20=31.

Without a word other than arcane whispering, Ezreal conjures another barrier of briefly crackling force and then with a few more word fragments into six identical versions of himself. The crowd of wizards nod in unison. "Let's go."
I'll take a bull's strength. j/k
See Invisibility has a 100 minute duration, so I imagine that is still going strong.
I have protection from evil and magic circle vs evil, but I doubt the caretaker is actually straight up evil so no point right now.
I'll repeat the Shield (1 min) + Mirror Image (3 min) combo from scrolls and that kills my supply of those. Are any more warforged repairs needed? That, I can do.

| Gil |
On the wrong side of the tunnel from the rest of the party to do much and not wanting to waste more resources than absolutely necessary, Gil casts Invisibility on herself and readies an action to cast Haste on the others if the approaching creature attacks. She will move as necessary to keep the group in range, excluding herself from the effect if necessary.

I think Basher is down about 2 hit points.

The sound of a heavy, metallic tread is now reverberating in the tunnel. Whatever it is has an odd gait - one foot slamming down hard on the floor, the other dragging behind as it nevertheless approaches rapidly. The indistinct shadow of something large obscures the tunnel lights as it approaches the final turn in the tunnel.
Half-stomping, half-limping into view, comes a bizarrely-deformed warforged. In its sheer size it is unusual - as tall as an ogre, but hunched over with a pronounced hump on its back almost as high as its head, which sits slightly off-centre on its shoulders. The right side of its body is relatively normal, comprising the typical heavy plating of a heavy infantry warforged. Attached as an integral item at the end of its right arm is a wickedly-bladed sword over six feet long. On its left side, however, its armour bulges apart, as if pressure from within has caused it to burst open. In the gaps between the plates press twisted gnarls of woody sub-structure and crazily-curling metal fibres, as if the creature has been afflicted with multiple tumours that have erupted outwards. Its limbs on this side are elephantine, massive but unwieldy. The arm is little more than a fingerless club and its leg drags behind as it as it shuffles forwards.
The creature catches sight of the adventurers in the tunnel and pauses to boom in a gravelly voice. "Halt, intruders! Security alert! Passes must be shown at all times!" It then lurches forward in a shambling charge.
Roll initiative.
| Gil |
Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Gil will cast her Haste spell when the thing charges. I'm not positive that everyone is within a 30' of each other, but her focus will be to catch the warriors in the effect.

One of the simpler maps I've had to draw. A tunnel. The Caretaker is at one end as per the map. You are in D-E/11-20.
A word about the rail. It runs up the centre of the tunnel and is about 4' high. A medium creature can't cross it without a skill check - either a DC 10 Acrobatics (which does not interrupt movement) or DC 5 Climb check (which does - counting as 10' of movement). A large creature, on the other hand, can move fairly freely up and down the tunnel by straddling the rail. If the mood takes you you can also balance of the rail - it's a DC 15 Acrobatics check if you want to do that.
Caretaker's initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
| Gil |
There's actually a full description of the tunnel further up this page, but it's 10'.
Yeah, I read it, but I didn't get a 10' width from the description, so I was not assuming any of my understanding was accurate. Thanks.

I think your suggestions look reasonable. However, I think I'll run with the grenade/splash weapon rules for its use in action.

Sorry should have mentioned it but it was your suggestions regarding the bomb. I was just repeating what you had stated before.
Rolund Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8.
Basher Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21.
Bor Init: 1d20 ⇒ 2.
| Sir Rolund ir'Kraal |
“Bash!” Repeating his favorite tagline, Basher rages forward and hurls the bomb.
Basher’s starting position at D-E/13-14.
Free action: Rage (8 of 9).
Move action: Move to D-E/7-8.
Standard action: Throw bomb at Caretaker.
Ranged Touch Attack (-8 range): 1d20 + 5 - 8 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 8 = -1. Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) = 10 fire + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 acid.
Wow, looks like we're heading to grenade rules. This should be interesting.
Rolund at D12.
Bor at D-E/17-18.

Kn Arcana 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
Trying to assay vulnerabilities first, but assuming there are none, resistances and immunities.
I may be wrong, but I think I have nothing that can affect a construct like this except the wand of lesser electrical orb and wall of force.
Consider me on Delay in E15
| Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Janosz and Gil are toward the front, but I'm not sure how far - maybe D9 and E9?
D-E/11 is the furthest forward you can get.
Map updated. A few positions left to confirm.
| Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
OK, we've got a bit of overlap. I'm assuming that Gil is maybe not desperate to be at the front, and as Runzyl has bagsyed D15, I'll put her at D16.
Initiative:
Basher – 21 (carrying bomb)
Ezreal – 17 (shield | mirror image)
Gil – 16 (invisibility | readied action haste)
Janosz – 14 (gravity bow)
Rodergo – 9
Rolund – 8
Runzyl – 7
Lightbringer – 4 (shield of faith +3 | bull’s strength)
Caretaker – 3
Bor – 2
Basher shoulders through those leading the column and hurls Rolund's carefully-manufactured bomb. His throw is somewhat wild...
1d8 for the direction of the miss, with 1 being north and then working round clockwise. 1d8 ⇒ 4
OK, it is south-east, which in this tunnel means it falls short as Basher has chucked it accidentally against the wall. I'm going to rule that it will basically go off centred on e-f/5-6 - which (perhaps fortunately) means that actually everyone falls outside the target area. So the tunnel takes a bit of a pasting, but other than that, no one is injured.
With a flash of fire and a strong acrid smell, the tunnel briefly fills with smoke. As it clears, both Basher and the Caretaker are standing in the tunnel, apparently unharmed.
Ez.
