GM Arkwright |
Raising an eyebrow as Gunser's oar hurts the creature, Blast runs forward and steps up next to the throne and experimentally fires a crossbow bolt into the cloud.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 1d10 ⇒ 5
Confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 1d10 ⇒ 7
The crossbow bolt drives deeply into the creature's core and, while it does not exhibit the burning effect that Gunser's attack did, it nevertheless seems to hurt it.

NEW ROUND
The cloud, checked by this onslaught, whirls around in a confusion before falling to the ground, coalescing into the form of a short man in a robe, hands raised in supplication as he begs, "DON'T KILL ME DON'T KILL ME PLEASE PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!"
Still keeping us in rounds. Post your action. You're all up!
Jelani |
"Take off your underwear or socks and shove them in your mouth and then sit on your hands, or I. WILL. SMASH. YOU." Jelani says, moving up next to the small man and holding his hammer ready to comply with his threat.
Moving to adjacent square.
Readying action to smash.
Gunser of Biston |
"Your cowardice DAMNED THAT MAN.", Gunser declares, pointing with his oar at the vacant staring eyes of Mekalis' severed head. "It might yet save you. Do what Mister Hammer says, it don't do to make him worry. He's never had to learn any more complex method for dealin' with it, than smashin' the snot out of whatever it was."
"Gunner, good lookin' out."
"Minstrel, an ear on the hall ahead, if you please?"
"Magi, would you do with your eyes what only ye can do?"
"Hammer, at some point we'd be speakin' with him. I'm too soft, I know you've thought it, so let's weigh this: Bindin' hands and feet, enough to loose his mouth, would you reckon? Would any of the magi speak against that?"
Gunser of Biston |
"Fair enough. You there, while you're gagged, be ponderin' a proper accounting of all defenders, defenses, traps and hazards. We'll start with that. And know that we've a history of turnin' loose what we can, of prisoners taken, but havin' no nonsense during or after. Know also, I hold you to blame for the death of Mechalus. We'll speak on that in a bit.", Gunser said.
Mirrender Elf-Blood |
Mirrender knows full well the range of his senses, and so moves closer to the throne. He takes his time, however, ready for whatever traps this "coward" may have in mind. Drow are, after all, a sucpicious lot.
"Please move him away from the throne and dias so I can get a good look."
While technically not required for this, he keeps his rapier is still in hand. It's ... comforting.
"And make sure you show proper respect to Our Lady" he adds to the new "prisoner".
Begins Detect Magic once he's within 30' of the throne. If it leaves rounds, he's looking at the throne, dias, and the man -- in that order.
GM Arkwright |
The man is wearing sandals, but he desperately shoves his hands against and partially into his mouth to show his sincerity, nearly crying.
Still in rounds.
Map Re-Link
Taurven Wess |
Taurven ends his song. It wasn't quite done, but the battle seems to be at a lull for now. The Bard moves up to the back of the room, next to the wall and Jelani. Once there, he casts Dancing lights once again. This time, the spell manifests in a faintly glowing humanoid figure. Taurven plans on sending the figure down the hall to spring any ambushes that may be waiting. (Casts Dancing Lights into O-26. The same square where it says: Something Invisible.)
Gunser of Biston |
"Oh, Lady of Mercy", Gunser mutters at the man's desolation. He drags the man away toward (p26). "Shut your eyes. Take your shirt off, wrap it 'round your head, sleeves down the back, then your hands behind you, hold the sleeves, one in each hand, I'll help you get set down in the corner here..."
Gunser sets the man in a sort of Lotus posture, facing the corner, a knee on each wall, shirt wrapped as a hood, blindfold, and choke collar (though not tight), with each sleeve held in one hand.
"Our Mister Gunner is watchin' you. I expect anything but settin' still would be your last act. But I also judge you can answer some questions."
"Are there more here besides yourself and Mechalus, likely to bring force against us?"
"Are there more here, at all?"
"Was alarm sent to the Takers, or to other allies?"
Jelani |
"What kind of f*cktwit doesn't wear socks or underwear? Didn't your mother teach you anything?" Jelani asks, cuffing him upside the head. "I'm putting my hammer down to tie you up now. I hope for your sake you don't do anything stupid," he continues, setting his hammer down and pulling out his rope.
Free action to put down hammer.
Standard action to draw out rope.
"If you have your target pinned, otherwise restrained, or unconscious, you can use rope to tie him up. This works like a pin effect, but the DC to escape the bonds is equal to 20 + your Combat Maneuver Bonus (instead of your CMD). The ropes do not need to make a check every round to maintain the pin. If you are grappling the target, you can attempt to tie him up in ropes, but doing so requires a combat maneuver check at a –10 penalty. If the DC to escape from these bindings is higher than 20 + the target's CMB, the target cannot escape from the bonds, even with a natural 20 on the check."
So assuming he lets me tie him up, I need to make another standard action to do so. DC to escape would be 27.
Jelani |
Ah, my bad. Took his shoving hands in mouth as his action. I will keep the ready for this round, next round put down hammer and standard to remove the rope. Round after that tie him up.
Orwen Blackburn |
Orwen moves towards Gunser and Jelani, seeing that they are getting ready to tie up the guy. As he walks up to them he holds up a pair of manacles, "These might be a little stronger then that rope there."
Moving up to them and offering them to use his masterwork manacles using a DC of 35

NEW ROUND
While Mellany tends to Gunser's wounds, the terrified look on your captive suddenly disappears. Removing his hands from his mouth, each one extends a middle finger at the Captain. "YOU WILL DIE LIKE THE SCUM YOU ARE!"
Then his skin turns inside out and he transforms into a majestic eagle. He zooms over the heads of Gunser and Mellany and flees away.
He turns into an eagle; no AOOs, it's not a spell.
Gunser, Orwen and Jelani all get AOOs; Mellany, if you have a weapon in hand, you do as well.
His AC is 19. Post your AOOs and then your turn; if he gets killed by the AOOs you can change your turn's action. You're all up.
Hmm; Jelani, you readied an action for if he tried anything. I suppose you'd take that action and then you could take an AOO.
Jelani |
Jelani swings his hammer at the man as he removes his hands, and again when he flies away.
Readied Attack (fatigued, power attack, danger room, IC, bless): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 4) + 9 = 18
AOO (fatigued, power attack, danger room, IC, bless): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 3) + 9 = 16
If he's still alive, for my action I will drop my hammer (free), draw my longbow and run after him (move), then take a shot attack (fatigued, bless, IC, danger room): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Gunser of Biston |
A sea-mist scent rises under Mel's healing hand, and she feels the thanks of... no, the feeling's gone, now.
Mel's healing magic heals Gunser another +2
"Thank you, Miss", Gunser says, a gratitude and warmth coming to his features. He opens his mouth to speak, "I-, but that instant the coward becomes an eagle!
AoO +8 to hit, d6+6 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Crit Confirm Roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
d6+6 damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Gunser races under the bird, faster than the bird, down the hall ahead of the bird. "I think not, me ducky...", he growls, striking again as it catches up to him.
35' of move puts Gunser 10' past the bird, so rather than stop to swing, he readies to hit as it comes adjacent.
+8 to hit, d6+6 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Swatting as the bird comes, Gunser finds only air. But he keeps the momentum, circling the oar's swing to catch the eagle as it passes.
Conditional AoO, if it comes to this...
AoO +8 to hit, d6+6 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
I found where I was keeping my bad rolls. :)
Naberius, "Blast" |
Having more or less blanked out except for choice moments during recent events, Blast comes back to himself as the man turns into an eagle. "Nei þú ert ekki, þú skítur!" the tiefling mutters as he draws an explosive vial and lobs it at the bird, moving closer for a better shot.
Move to L25, then throwing a normal bomb.
Bomb Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 = 7 Or just straight 7 if it misses; I'm assuming that, based on its position and height, even a miss wouldn't bring that bomb close enough to hit Gunser, so I see no point in rolling to see where it goes on a miss. I don't even want to think about that mechanic with flying creatures...
Casey Jayne |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I guess that would equal 'crazy out of nowhere'. Is this guy still alive? No sense in me attacking if he's dead. Will roll just in case not.
And I've totally lost the map, so, if I can get within 30' and fire, I'll do that.
Seeing the prisoner 'fly' away, Casey just shakes his head. "Dadgum fool." He takes aim, times it, and fires.
Mwk. Musket: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 touch attack within 40'
Damage: 1d12 ⇒ 11
+1 to each if within 30'
Crit Confirm roll
Mwk. Musket: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 3d12 ⇒ (8, 9, 12) = 29
Add +1 to hit and +3 to damage if within 30' on the confirm.
40 damage if confirmed. BOOM! :)
GM Arkwright |
Orwen misses.
Gunser connects, his oar slamming into the Eagle but not killing it.
That job is left to Jelani. The barbarian's two hammer strikes nearly cuts the eagle in two, leaving it to flutter to the floor, where it congeals into the form of that small robed man with a massive gash in his chest.
Combat over. Sorry to waste that nice crit, Casey. Out of rounds now.
Taurven Wess |
"Indeed." Taurven agrees with Mellany. "I was hoping we could get some information out of these two. Or at least one of them."
The half-elf shrugs. Done is done.
"We might as well give these digs a searching over, while we're here. Maybe there is something useful to be found."
Taurven starts by closing the door out to the well. He has had enough of the stench of garbage for now. Then he checks the throne over.
Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Combat over. Sorry to waste that nice crit, Casey. Out of rounds now.
Of course it is. I figured as much with Jelani's rolls. And the fact that I never(and I do not exaggerate, sadly) roll that good normally. That'll teach me from now on, though. I'll be waiting to see if the bad guy's dead next time.
GM Arkwright |
Heh yep the dice gods hate the presumptive.
Oh and I forgot. The Knight is wearing a +1 set of full-plate (headless) and is armed with a +1 Keen Fauchard
And lastly- the Knight is carrying a Wand of Alarm (25 charges left), a Wand of Feather-Fall (20 charges left) and a Wand of Mage Armour (40 charges left)
Jelani |
"Fools. The only one with sense so far has been that Therion guy. At least the takers are down two more gulls. Our plan is working. Soon they'll be without leadership."
Gunser of Biston |
"Well, Therion never woke up for us to talk to him. Which is a shame, given how the wrong people seem to hate him, and the right sort to praise him. I hope he's done well, maybe seen the error of his ways."
"I'd apologize to all of you, if my lack of bloodlust ever brings you hazard or worry. It was clear enough this last one either never had plan to yield, or... heard somethin'... Miss called me 'Captain'... I reckon that word got back? It was a parade-ground turn, he did. I suppose we may never know."
"All this gear with whoever can make use of it for now, and we'll proper catalog and shares it out, later. Not much need to ponder 'owners', none of us are gettin' out of this alive. Still, a warrior, expert, or mage needs a surety of his kit, so, close enough, do figure a proper share."
"After we've swept the rest of this place."
Mirrender Elf-Blood |
Mirrender ignores the conversation for the moment, focusing his perceptions on the rest of the room(s). He starts by concentrating hard for a few moments Detect Magic and then moving slowly around the throne room, examining every part of it. He eventually makes his way down the various hallways, examining those as well.
Detect Magic & take 20 on perception. Drow are nothing if not paranoid.
Gunser of Biston |
"A lock of magic? We've a man of iron. But wit enough to be cautious, before we turn the Hammer loose on that door. And there's that ring of seein' through. Let's be sure of nothin' like our Gunner's powders, waitin' behind the door for a great hammer to make us regret it."
(Use the Ring of X-Ray Vision, and if the door is clear enough, we'll wager on how many swings it'll take Jelani to get it open. :) )
