Arcanium Organization Affiliations

You have died and the gods have decided for one reason or another to give you another chance. This chance is to start anew as you are with a special ability in a mystical world of monsters and adventure.

It is an Isekai game, a reference to a situation in which characters find themselves transported to an alternate dimension or universe.

Arcanium:
You have died and the gods have decided for one reason or another to give you another chance. This chance is to start anew as you are with a special ability in a mystical world of monsters and adventure.

Character Generation:
As yourself with several paragraphs to describe your life up until now and why you have your ability scores. Thus gaining you bonuses based on your background.
Or: roll [dice]3d6[dice] 8 times, the eighth roll may replace any of the earlier rolls. Create a background for your character as they were in our world before dying.

We will be adding luck into this game so the ability scores are: Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and Luck.

Everyone starts with one special ability. It can be anything: an ability, an item, or even a being.
Suggestions: to be able to cast lightning 3/day, a legendary sword, fast healing 3, a famliar, a belt of mighty health, to be able to cast cure serious wounds 3/day.
*The more powerful the ability the higher chance that you will gain a curse with it or it will be more quirky

I am interested in the concept. A couple questions:
1: starting level?
2: races and classes allowed?
3: traits?
4: background skills?
5: feat tax adjustments?
6: starting gear?
7: do we remember our past life?
8: what does the Luck ability score do?

dice:

3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7 - dropped stat
3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3) = 14
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) = 18
3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2) = 12

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Everyone will start as a level 1 of their choice. You may gain some levels in expert depending on your background that wont affect your character level.

Everyone will start as human obviously but their will be quests that will let you change your race in game. Most classes will be accepted, no phyquica please.

2 traits.
I need to look up background skills and feat tax adjustments... I have not been playing for the last 9 months.

Starting gear: What did you have with you when you died and honestly based off your life a normal day what would you have? Typically I have my keys, wallet, phone, ipad, snacks, pens, misc. medicine and a carry bag to hold the last two.

Yes you remember your past life. You also remember your interactions with the lesser god about gaining an ability too. The first thing is to create your base character and his/her background. Then you will interact with the god before being sent to Arcanium.

Luck will affect most abilities actually but not to the extreme of most other abilities at a 14 it will give a +1 bonus and 18 a +2 bonus whereas a 6 would give you a -1. Other things might happen as well depending on your luck level.

Background skills sound good but I still cant find ‘feat tax adjustments’.

I found feat tax adjustments and it does sound legit, we get so few feats it makes sense. Using the following link as the basis Feat Tax Adjustments.

Hmm. An isekai game. Interesting.

Wanderer82 we could start the game off with just you or wait for others, what do you think?

Interesting campaign. Let me give it some thought

Gaeldren here. Background here mechanics in profile:

Sven is a man that is openly whispered about. He is a hunter, a trapper, and a chef. He is known wander into the World's End Inn once a month, carrying with him cured meat to trade for alcohol and any miscellaneous supplies that he needs. Like most Ulfen, he is large and resilient enough to survive the harsh landscape that they call home.
The men who frequent the World's End Inn say that Sven is moontouched. There have been sightings in the forest that he lives in of a creature, part man, part wolf, that hunts deer and other wild game. It is said that this is how Sven hunts his game, and it is why he refuses to live within the confines of civilization. These rumors have never been confirmed, and Sven does not deny them.

At first, there was panic at the sightings. But, as the months rolled by, followed by years, the hysteria died down. Nobody had ever been harmed, and it was agreed upon that hunting a werewolf was far too risky an endeavor. Infact, it became something of a local selling point, that they could tell to travelers to keep them eating and drinking on cold nights.

This continued until a group of adventurers from Ustalav came through and decided to make hunting the famed werewolf their ‘quest’...

So Sven/Gaelden you want to be an NPC that the new players hunt?

Or is this your plan to create your reborn player after?

A player character, given a new chance. :)

Also for the special boon, is fast healing 3 allowed? Seems useful and in character.

Okay, get the rolls going and we can get this party started... unless you want to wait for others?

Kinda scared to go with the rolls, to be honest. 3d6 is an average of 9-10 for each stat. Statistically it’d be a 7-10 point buy...with the extra stat.

You also gain bonuses based on your background. Though rolling does give you a likely sub par starting in some stats. But that is the game with picking a character rather than you as the player.

So we we're people from our modern world, who in death are pulled to a mystical realm, is that correct?

So, for example my character could have been a police officer who died in the line of duty and was revived in this other realm to a new life as a paladin?

Or do you specifically want it to be my real world background (teacher, musician, and outdoorsman turned restaurant manager)?

Yakkoing for interest, but listening to other ideas.

Glad Wolf is back. I'm in his kingmaker game that is coming back to life. This looks sweet. I'm going to work on something.

Thought this was still Golarion-ish?

Dark Archive

Dot for interest, although unsure I wanna do something like this.

I'm one of those players who does quirky things with their characters, either always playing an oddball or something similar.

Unfortunately this game seems like it requires the be kinda Gerneric then evolve into a quirky character. This gives me great interest, but I tend to dislike the core races and classes unmodified.

I just can't come up with a good concept for someone as normal as the person two doors down.

Personaly I would want the teacher, musician, and outdoorsman turned restaurant manager. But the others are good choices too.

The world of Arcanium will be Golarion-ish but the character or player can be from any world... as I said above from our modern world I would prefer.

I cant wait to get some players going on this! Sven I will be making a spoiler in the discussion thread for you to respond to.

William you can start quirky and go any way you want!William pick yourself and there will be nudges to get you changed ad you want.

Sven is on his way into the gameplay thread. Still looking for more players! This should be very interesting.

Okay, wow. I hadn't fully understood what you were looking for in the first post, but obviously an answer my question you have clarified it for me. It's an intriguing concept, creating yourself as a character. I suppose I am some messed up multi-class Bard Ranger, with a decent amount of skills in knowledges (guess that would actually be the "couple levels of expert", as let's face it, 99% of us are NPCs).

I have a lengthy shift at work today, but will try to have something written up late tonight.

As for gear, given that we have died and passed through to the other Realm, might I suggest that possessions don't make it through? I ask more from a game balance sense, I have my CCL and figure that a modern pistol would be rather inappropriate for a 1st level character in Arcanium. Perhaps we have a few basic items fitting for the time as an echo from what we had. Clothes to clothes, meds to a potion of cure minor, pistol to a light weapon, money to some coins, etc. Just a thought.

Wanderer82 you will be coming in with your prior knowledge, any items on you including your CCL and pistol. Trust me it is not overpowered, depending on the gun you have 5 to 16 bullets right. Each doing 2d6 or 3d6 damage? They want you to survive and level up as do I. Its not a laser gun that recharges.

So give me a brief summery with your highlights from every 10 years of your life. What kind of schooling you have had, what jobs you have mastered, hobbies, and also your basic stats.

We are still looking for players! Just Sven right now I hope others to be joining soon!

This looks like a great idea, I am currently scrabbling around with old tech due to both my Laptop and phone going down at the same time! I am waiting on a new phone arriving and will try and get something produced then if this isn't already fiĺled up. I guess as an officer in the fire brigade I would be looking at some sort of cavalier(obviously with no mount)/fighter type character. Perhaps some sort of fire related ability as a connected boon from the gods. Or water i guess! In fact that might be even better, assisted by a water related god and cursed by a fire related god!

Quick question about stat generation. Did you want us to use the roll system detailed above for generating ourselves? If not then any idea what sort of point buy level we would be looking at as a guide? Basically i am thinking the vast majority of people are generally going to fall in the 8-12 (maybe 14) region i guess, (unless there are a whole bunch of national sports stars and university professors on these boards.) as such, i guess i am wondering how much you want us to exaggerate our strongest stats?

Well to pop in, you don’t need to be yourself. I mean...I’m not a Nordic werewolf. Though it would be nice.

True, however i have been considering running something based off 'real' stats for my friends. Admittedly that was going to be zombie orientated, but i like the idea of basically statting up myself for something different. I have to agree the idea of being a Nordic werewolf is quite appealing though!
Just don't want to massively over or under power myself for game purposes.

For fun I did stat myself. The result was very under powered. I’m of the view point that 9-10 is average, and most people are...average. A 14 in a stat is a defining characteristic. Anything above that is truly extraordinary.

Luckily this campaign has luck as a stat. It can overcome a lot of it is focused on.

Do not use the roll system to generate stats for yourself. First you take 10 on all stats then decide which stat is likely lower or higher. For me I am sick a lot so -2 for Con. I went through college and it was a breeze for the most part so increase my Int and Wis by +2. Then you will need to sum up every 10 years or so in your life with highlights and different things that you did: work, hobbies, activities. You might gain other bonuses. Do not exaggerate try to truley give yourself the right stats.

My example:
I am 34 years old so I should have 3 paragraphs.
When I was brought up it was in a loving environment and I was nurtured. I wasn’t spoiled but had my meets met and more. You could say I was lucky, +2 luck.
My parents supported me in my own pursits but never gave me much drive. I did a little of this and that slowly finding out what I like to do. I know I love to play games and my faith in God were and are two steadfast principles of my life. I worked here and there not picking up much skills. College was easy though with lack of direction I turned to teaching. +2 wis for my faith, +4 Int for my knowledge & college, +2 Dex for fine motor skills.
My last ten years would have to be most important to me persoanally but not very formative. I began my teaching career, though with my laziness not much has really come of it. I married my wife and started our adventure together. Soon a little one will be on the way. Too bad I wont be there to raise him. I have continued my gaming and can beat most people I know at video games and have continues to play D&D for most of these 10 years. Overall perhaps with my continually being sick is the only real indicator of some change, -2 Con.

The names have been misspelled to protect my a$$:

Joe Waskalis was born in Spectrum Hospital at 3:14pm, Tuesday November 6th, 1973 to Barbara and Darryl Waskalis. Joe, or Joseph on his birth certificate, was to be the eldest of two boys before both parents divorced in 1977. Darryl got remarried to Joe's babysitter in 1978, and had another son, Kevin. Joey and Michael, his younger brother, would often visit his father and stepmother on the weekends. Joey was raised mostly by his mother, who raised the family as irish-catholics, going to church every Sunday at St. James Church on Bridge street. Growing up, Joey had many rough nights sleeping, being afraid of the dark up until his early teens. Joey excelled in early education, skipping preschool to go right into 1st grade. Joe was always a big kid, being born nearly ten pounds at birth. the boy inherited his father's side broad shoulders and his mother's side height. Like many children 'of the 80s', Joey loved watching cartoons like He-man, Thundercats, G.I.Joe and Dungeons and Dragons among others. In grade school, Joe had many friends but none of them were close.

Going from grade school to middle school was a dramatic change. No longer considered 'cool' enough to hang out with, his grade school friends deserted and mocked him. With no playground to occupy his free time, Joe just stood around like the rest of his peers. During this time, Joe was near-constantly mocked, by girls who rejected his clumsy advances to the boys who would jump on any perceived weakness from 'the gentle giant', who was raised not to settle arguments with violence. This lasted until his junior year where, in a fit of pent-up rage nearly beat his school bully, Keith Quarry, within an inch of his life. After spending a week in juvie, no one taunted Joe Waskalis again; they just avoided him. Despite this, Joe found a true best friend in Nolan Butterfield; a thin, black kid who shared many of his interests. Of the two, Nolan was the ladies man, often dating cheerleaders, while Joe lived vicariously through his best friend.

Union High School, where Joe finished his education, did little to prepare the young man for the real world. Life was tough growing up. Both mother and father couldn't save any money for education, so the day after Joe's graduation, he had no idea what to do next. So Joe worked many odds jobs throughout his 20s. Fast food into retail, Joe quickly reacquired his confidence that was beat out of him in middle and high school to have a great report with customers. And with confidence came dates with women in his late 20s, eventually marrying his best friend from work, Cyndy, before Joe turned 30.

During his twenties, Joe underwent a spiritual awakening. Discussing some of his frightful nights as a kid with a beloved aunt, both discovered a lot of what the scared little boy saw was real, to him at least. His aunt, Sandy recommended several books on mediation and developing inner sight. Joe read and practiced voraciously, becoming a student of new age beliefs, learning about chakra points, astral projection, dream control, crystal work, among others. Throughout his married and unmarried life, Joe loved science fiction and fantasy, particularly Dungeons and Dragons, in which one of his favorite cartoons was based on. Whenever in gaming group, Joe loved to play heroic types: clerics, fighters, wizards, with paladins being his favorite class.
In regards to his marriage, Joe was determined not to make the same mistakes as his father and worked everyday on it, strengthening his bond with Cyndy every chance he got. Joe and Cyndy never had kids, though. Cyndy ultimately revealed she was afraid of hurting the children like her early attempts to discipline her dogs at time which led to their early deaths. Despite Joe's wish to have children, the marriage continued to grow stronger, despite this black mark on it.

Joe and Cyndy eventually moved upstate to Ludington, a small tourist town near Lake Michigan, to take care of his ailing mother-in-law, who loved her son-in-law. After she died, Phyllis, Cyndy's mother, left her house to them. After living in the big city of Grand Rapids all his life, Joe enjoyed the peace and quiet of Ludington. He met new gaming buddies, who introduced Joe to Pathfinder and World of Warcraft where Joe's main was his human paladin. Joe found a good job working as a third shift auditor at a major hotel chain in town, where he often plays Pathfinder on the paizo forums with people from around the world.

If Joe was transported to Arcanium, he would become a human paladin.

Joe:
So first off welcome to the game!

Human paladin sounds great! Now to get to the nitty gritty:
What stuff might Joe have on him as he is heading to work? Or on a trip?
We need to develop your ability scores with your background, from what I can see: +4 Con, +2 str, +2 cha... what do you think? What stats do you really have?

Then once you have those think about that ability you might get.
Lastly you can take this over to the discussion thread where we get the next revelation taken care of before sending you to Arcanium.

Managed to get some time and a old phone that woeks ish , so here goes!

Will Bradley (name changed)

0-10:

Will Bradley was born on the 17th of April 1983 in Poole hospital, England. Son of a police officer and an administrator , he was lucky enough that his mother stopped working to raise me and then 3 years later his brother. With Will's father leaving the police force when Will was aged 2, the family moved to live with his father's parents before ending up in a bungalow with a giant garden in the middle of the farms and fields of Somerset. Will's early years were dpent charging around the garden, younger brother and dogs in tow, engaged in one adventure or another (Robin Hood, the A team, Cowboys and Indians, Three Musketeers) The rest of Will's time was spent reading and he was a soak for knowledge, managing to get a scholarship to the local Cathedral School (Wells, smallest city in England, more of a town really).

11-20:

A tall child, head and shoulders above the rest, his natural size, strength and toughness made up for his lack of coordination on the rugby field and he did well going on to play at county level. His size and early development meant that in true rugby culture, he was the one relied on to buy alcohol from about the age of 14 and he quickly developed a tolerance, even engaging in sneaking booze into the dorm of his friend's boarding house. Meanwhile he continued to do well academically with maths and the sciences, struggling more with languages. On the other side he was a quiet and reserved, naive child with a small but close group of friends, his continued interest in reading and his introduction to Warhammer, keeping him out of the 'cool' group. During this time, he also got heavily involved with Army cadets, doing various adventure training activities through them, even leading to a hiking expedition to Iceland with his friends. Apparently something in this quiet boy interested the military recruiters as he won a sixth form scholarship and then university bursary to attend Sandhurst (the British Army Officer training) upon graduation from university.
Completing school and after visit India with and ex, Will headed to Nottingham University to study Electrical engineering, quickly discovering that there was a lot of computer programming he switched course to a Material engineering course and proceeded to enjoy his independence. Whilst at university he also met similarly minded hobbyists and branched out from Warhammer to RPGs and other board games. Finally and possibly most importantly, it was at this stage he met his future wife.

20-30:
Not loving his course, Will failed to put in enough work, scraping through to complete his degree. Having met his future wife, Will decided at this time not to join the Army, instead after a couple of rubbish filler jobs and some travelling around Australia, New Zealand and Asia, ended up joining the London Fire Brigade and moving to the big city. The second half of this decade was filled with learning the job of being a firefighter and outside, enjoying the life of a young carefree couple living in a big city. Hobbies took a backseat, life instead filled with making the most of having so much only a short tube ride away. Work was long periods of quiet, interrupted by short bursts of frantic work and Will soon became accustomed to unpleasant sights, but the work was rewarding, whether fighting fires, dealing with car crashes or just visiting pensioners to fit smoke alarms. The leadership qualities that had interested the Army, quickly came into play and Will was quickly promoted to Crew Manager (I think Lieutenant in the US) where being calm, authoritative and professional made up for being the centre of the party.
Outside of work, Will and his future wife got bored of the city and hankered for countryside life, finally deciding to make the move to a village outside Oxford, buy a house and settle down.

30-35:

With neither Will and his partner being religious (despite his Cathedral school education), marriage was never an important consideration, however with a house, pets and a son on the way, Will decided a party was needed and after 12 years together Will and Lucy were married. A little daughter followed 2.5 years later, almost as planned and the family was complete. The exhaustion of two kids and a second job to support them all (gardening and then window cleaning) meant Will's exercise opportunities disappeared and his strength and stamina suffered (along with his patience!).
Work continued well and after a few naive approaches to interviews, Will was promoted to Watch Manager (US captain i think). Hobbies gained a resurgence here, due to the need for Will or Lucy to remain on childcare, and as such he dived with enthusiasm back into WW2 tabletop games, joined a local gaming group and even mde forays into the world of being a GM!

Wow that got quite long!

I think Will would be a fighter with the Tactician archetype in the Pathfinder world, possibly with some ranger thrown in.

In anticipation of your next questions, i am curious about what stats you might have thought from the background, i would put mine at

Stats:
str 12, Dex 10, Con 13-14, Int 13, Wis 8, Cha 12.
i guess.
As for kit, well I suppose the nost likely place for me to die is at work (probably actually whilst commuting, but that is a little dull!), so: workwear clothes inc belt, Fire gear (Bunker gear in the US?), helmet, steel toe capped boots, leather gloves, 4m cord (12ft roughly), penknife x2, disposable ear defenders, CPR pack, notepad and pencil, mirror, radio and spare battery, torch, whistle, mini prybar, glasses, prescription safety glasses. Then i would also likely be wearing Breathing Apparatus and carrying some sort of tool (axe/ceiling hook/hatchet, thermal image camera, large crowbar)

Wilhelm Shieldbreaker:

Welcome to the game!
Fighter with Tactician sounds fun!
I agree with your stats, we are giving everyone a little boost so first for being so honest you get a +2 to Con. Next you may get a +2 bonus anywhere for being Human. Last you may give yourself a +2 to Str or Con.

I would have you come over in full gear, that sounds great! Also I will let you decide what was in your arms in your last moments on Earth and how you died.

You also get 2d8 additional hps and 8+[Int modifier x 2] in skills See the expert class. Please pick skills that make sense compared to your background.

Next step come on over to the discussion thread and lets talk about that ability you can gain!

We are still looking for players, only 3 PCs right now!

Wolf, I will have something today. I had training the last two days. I will work on it now. :)

Sorry, had some chaos go down at work last week which has seen me put in 6 consecutive 12+ hour days. Things should be balancing out today and I will get something submitted. I am very intrigued by the concept, and strangely, have a real-life near death moment from a couple weeks ago to set up my character for this game. Hopefully I will have it posted in the next 24 hours.

Sorry to hear that wanderer, I hope you have recovered from those shifts. Yep get it in when you can.

Well, here goes nothing.

0-10:
Born to a young couple in a small town nestled in the Rockies, Einar was named for his great grandfather. Due to isolation from the local community, Einar grew up adventurous but alone. The young boy however was very friendly, and eager to share the latest factoid he had learned with anyone willing to listen. His mother fostered a love of reading and knowledge while his father taught him how to use his hands to build. At the age of 6 his family moved into deeper into the mountains, giving the young boy a much wider world to explore in his free time. At school the young Einar was lazy, often doing the bare minimum to satisfy teachers so he could pursue his own objects, namely reading. However, the isolation had left him with little social skills, something the other children pounced on.

10-20:
A rather slim boy, Einar lacked much for muscle and physical size. Due to his parents concern about how the other kids treated Einar, he wound up enrolled in a martial arts class around the age of 11. There, Einar discovered another passion besides reading and his own self confidence. Due to distaste for the people of his hometown, Einar adopted a blunt, unfriendly persona for dealing with his equals. Taking up gaming, several shop classes, and track as well during his adolescence, Einar ended up graduating with distinction in highschool. At college, the young Einar found another passion in the lab, and started to solidify his own self via tattoos and an adoption of Buddhism.

If I was to give my own stats, I'd probably be str 10, dex 14,con 14,int-14, wisdom -12, and charisma a 7 or 6. Granted, I feel Con and int are justified by the fact I've survived be hit by a car and getting a pretty decent scholarship respectively, but I'm probably biased.

I'd probably die wearing one of my leather jackets, t shirt, my tags, jeans with a belt, pocket knife, pens and pencils, wallet, keys, and phone.

If anything is wrong please let me know.
