Hooray. paizo.com isn't blocked on my school computer!! I can post from work during lunch two days a week. yeah, I guess it isn't that big a deal after all.
When I looked and saw that I had a whopping 13 new posts on the OOC thread after dropping the bomb on Rorse, I was afraid I was being taken to task. Glad to see good-old fashioned paranoia is still an effective plot device (unless of course, Sir Kheiron is just being paranoid in thinking there is a spy aboard)...
Oh no! Sir Kheiron is not paranoid. AAremeth is right, it is obviously *points randomly* that guy.
markofbane
*nods* yeah if so, the best way to resolce all of our paranoia, is to hang who ever we think it is....
That's easy for the halfling to say! We know what happens when that gets tried.

Ah but hiding in plain sight is just the way a fiendish Chelaxian spy would work..be so obvious that no one would think he really was a spy.
Hehe I think we should rename the ship "The Alpha Complex".
And now off course I have a sneaking suspicion that Hickory might in fact be a Bard and not just the PFS hanger on I thought she was..which again could make her the spy..or possibly the counter spy. At least she's no shrinking violet.

In my live game, I have adopted the practice of taking initiative rolls well in advance, so that I can swing right into action when the time comes. With a PbP, I think that practice will work even better, so please send me some initiative rolls.
I've been mulling over how to do combat, and this is what I'd like to try:
I will post a screen-shot of the battle map on this blogspot site at the beginning of each round. Everybody e-mail me your intended actions (including any descriptions you'd like for me to use) and I will put together a narrative by combining all the actions into a pseudo-cinematic scene. If you wish to collaborate with other players on actions, feel free to e-mail back and forth among yourselves, just cc me on your intentions.
In an hour or so, I'll have a screen-shot up of the main deck of the Lady Iona with various NPCs positioned for the arrival at the Arch. Please let me know where you want your character to be situated so I can put them into the map.
My email is gmnazard@gmail.com
Let's see how this goes and if it flops, I'm open to other ideas.

Rommin will take a position in the crow's nest, if its available. And assuming he's not disabled due to spewing.
Given the importance of the day, would he not take some of Hobart's proffered herbs?
Also, please don't confuse the bad timing of my spiel on combat and initiative with the situation currently happening in game with the exploding keg of rum. I am not entering rounds for this.

Crow's nest is fine. He will be alone up there.
Can our resident ship expert suggest a reasonable height for a crow's nest on a ship of this size? I have placed the crow's nest on the forward mast.
Titus Cagnaletti
i think it's at least 100 feet up in the air and made of pure conductive copper. No wait, you said expert? Nah I just make things up.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
There's 4, let me know when you want more.

He will, though it hasn't done much good with these awful rolls I've been having. He had a hard core failure on one of the days he's taken it already. :(

If he's just sickened on the day of arrival, he can still function, just with the standard penalties for sickened state (-2 attack, damage, etc.)
If he's actually nauseated, well just let me know and "things" (evil...
things") can be done to, I mean, for him...

Some good points have been raised that this method has several serious drawbacks, such as players not being able to describe their own actions, and not knowing what other players are doing during a round. This was a test method and it seems to me that it's not working even before we start!
So, we try something else...
This was never about people meta-gaming; I trust you all completely not to do stuff like that. So let's try building our story together instead of me doing it all. I'll post an initiative order on the main thread and feel free to describe your actions. If you post slightly out of order, not the end of the world, so if you're desperately waiting for somebody ahead of you to post before carrying yourself off to bed for the night, just post anyway. It'll all work out in the wash anyway.
Nazard
How about we go with a compromise? It seems to me that if your intended action/post is "move to nearest bad guy and attack with x", post it HERE. I'll see it here, and when the time comes, I'll incorporate it into the main thread. For example (and this is just an example, not a criticism in anyway), there's no reason why Rommin's action "Rommin doesn't want to attract attention so he stays put for now" couldn't have been posted out of order. Obviously, if your action depends on co-operation, or if you need to see how somebody else's action plays out before deciding your own, just wait until it's your turn, but if it's something you're likely going to do no matter what, put it here.
Since we're hashing out PbP combat methods from other games, in the game I'm currently playing in, players tend to post two or three options..."If x then I do y, else if z then I do a, else I do b" sort of thing. Then the GM just picks which condition was met and uses that action. It lets us post out of order and for combat to happen in our own words, but it does clutter up the main thread.
Map has been updated, to show positions up to Titus' turn in round 2.
Rommin Hawkridge
I think you are doing a fine job. Combat is always hard, and GMs handle it differently. To minimize cluttering threads, I tend to post longer potential actions in a spoiler.

GM Nazard - what with staying on board when everyone else went ashore, and then with my computer problems, I feel somewhat detached from the game and can't seem to develop the momentum to jump back in. So I've taken the tough decision to bow out.
Apologies for doing this - I've never done it before - as it's no reflection on the game whatsoever.
Good luck to all who remain in what is proving a fast-moving adventure.

No worries at all Mark. I'm sorry the timing didn't work out. I'd love to play with you in the future.

Having six PCs and one NPC would move the game along slightly faster, plus I usually like having at least one DMNPC in the party for those times when either I don't do a good job presenting needed evidence for some bottle-neck conclusion, or the players do a bad job putting the pieces together (not that I think that would happen here or anything, but you never know...)

Hey guys, unforntunately Hobarts internet is on the fritz, he is hoping it is a fairly temporary situation, Nazard do you want me to run him or do you want to npc him for now? I know his main goal is to keep everyone alive, and starting next round he should have +3 regeneration, due to judgment.
Let me know if you would prefer i run him for the time being.

You're welcome to run him, but on that note, we're waiting for a Rorse action too!:)

Something I never mentioned to you guys what with all this ranged combat going on, but I personally hate the idea that you hit somebody with an arrow and that means the arrow was destroyed. The literature is full of examples of just the opposite. Where would Kevin Costner have been if he couldn't have pulled two arrows out of a corpse, rip a feather out of one of them and use his Manyshot feat??
So here's my houserule for you archers...
Perception DC 10 to find lost arrows (ie those that missed). Only do the 50% thing if the terrain is the kind likely to cause broken arrows (rocky cliffs, rocky dungeon, etc.) Do the 50% thing for arrows that hit guys wearing solid metal armour like breastplate or full plate (these guys in this battle are in leather), otherwise, feel free to reclaim your arrows.
Now obviously, common sense applies in our current situation. If you WANT to row over to the Chelish ships and ask for your arrows back, you're welcome to try, and assume any missed arrows have gone overboard.
EDIT: I know it's a game balance thing, making you constantly buy new ammunition, but it's not FUN (and really not that overpowering anyway).
