Since Roach, Germain and Sherman seem to be the only ones going forward, the party is heavy on socially inept killers. Likable adventurers with an aptitude for mechanics or healing would be very useful.
Let's see, wandering vagabond who gets by mainly with a charming smile and fleet feet, or a old-fashioned country doctor who went and crawled into a bottle at some point in the past. So many choices...
EDIT: Hmm, a nice post-apocalyptic version of McCoy would be pretty interesting, all things considered...
| Mutant Monkey |
Sweet Davi! Me likey! The party is on the edges of a giant AI-controled area, if you want to have your character related to it in some fashion, either pro or con.
The AI, OMNUS, runs the Happy Valley Collectivist State, a high-tech polity centered on the old campus of Umass/Amherst. The AI also runs dozens of different robots as a sort of hive mind/parallel processor. Meat-bassed creatures are definitely lower ranked in this state, but not tyrannized against, rather 'shepherded' by their metal bretheren.
Of course, many folks don't take kindly to being 'shepherded', and dislike OMNUS. Some atrificials don't like being borgified either, since they have to give up their autonomy to join the collective.
The town the party is about to enter is on the fringe of the HVCS.

Well, a severe dislike of the HVCS would certainly be appropriate. I'll have to think about it some more.
Also, HP rolls: 8+1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 81d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
EDIT: Also, how much money/equipment would I start with?

What are you talking about?! Germain is disturbingly sociable! She's cute, lovable, and charming. She's also completely psychotic and deranged, but that's something that lurks behind her lovable smile, and so she's capable of appearing completely normal.

OK, looks like Davi and Shiny onboard. Might want to think about a few more on an open call, any thoughts?
Also: Starting gold 10 1 oz coins and 500 HVCS 'work units'. I believe I have a list of prices upstream in this thread somewhere, I'll see if I still have tohe document and reprint

Here we go:
List of Costs (typical):
1 Gold piece(GP)=100 Noratom Credits(NC). 5 NC are considered an unskilled laborer’s wage for a day’s work.

Shirt: 15 NC
Ammo Belt: 10 NC
Regular belt: 5 NC
Sundries
Lg. Sack: 2 NC

Shell casings (10): 3 NC
Note: Most technologically simple items are made locally in the Berksh region. Breaanson the Town Boss/ Gunsmith has a good reputation throughout the Principalities of Appalachee for his gunsmithing. The electrical generators, hand cranked flashlights, and Zippos are the province of the local tinker Hamilton “Ham” Froggerman. Ham and his family got the last name ‘Froggerman’ from a mutational strain in their pedigree that produces bulging eyes and long sticky fingers (which makes him a good tinker, never drops a tool!).
Anything “sci-fi” is either salvaged or created by the Happy Valley Collectivist State. The HVCS deals in simple gadgets mostly, and will sell hand weapons to folks outside the valley, but not anything larger.
EDIT: As yoou are closer to HVCS now, take 10% off all HVCS gadgets. Prices for regular stuff remain the same. HVCS work credits are stored on a small chip, usually embedded on a person's thumb (if humanoid). Assume 1 HVCS WC=1NC for purposes of this equipment list.

So, how much would some decent light armor cost? Also, can I get a surgery kit or will I have to make due with a bowie knife and hope?
EDIT: Oh, is X-Ray Vision Superman-style, or more realistic?
Hmmm, what type of light armor? Leather? Chain?
The HVCS has high-tech surgery stuff.
X-ray is more realistic.

For now, let's say leather.
What sort of high-tech stuff? Besides, all I'm really asking for is enough forceps/scalpels/whatever it is surgeons use to not get -4 if I need to do surgery.
Can I at least perceive stuff x-ray vision would see through? I mean, other than running into it.

Hmm, I guess that would be OK. Let me take a look at the X-Ray mutation a bit and get back to you.
Leather I'd say 3 GP, or 300 HVCS
For Surgery supplies:
HVCS Handheld Medical Diagnostic Computer (+4 on all Heal checks): 50 GP
Surgeon bag: 5 GP
Basic first aid supplies (for 5 heal checks): 30 NC
HVCS Medical goo (heals 1d8+6 damage): 1 gp

I'm having a massive brain malfunction, and I can't think of a character concept. Could anyone throw me a bone here?
Hmm. Charming vagabond? Former member of the HVCS who brought stuff out with him? Post apocalyptic Spock to my post apocalyptic McCoy?

OK, Davi, Maccoy's entry to the group is set up. Shiny, you still interested? Or is RL biting your @zz?
No, I've just been procrastinating. I think I'm going to resurrect an old Shadowrun character I have lying around. He was a big, scary-looking Troll fighter-type who was actually a really nice guy. I based him partly on Hellboy and Teal'c (from Stargate SG-1).

We had one in our original group, Billy Ray, the hillbilly troll. Speaking of which, anyone ever hear anything from Niel? Even Cromaganon has dropped off the radar.

Just sat down to finally make a character, and realized that I had no idea where to find the Gamma World rules. Most of my gaming stuff is in Georgia.
It's really just using an altered version of the d20 Modern rules, using the mutation rules if you're playing a mutant.

What's the concept?
And hey, you bailed on the Opal thread without posting your next action!
Shit, sorry about that...
In any case, the concept is a big, troll-looking guy that uses his skills as a strong/dedicated hero (or fast/dedicated hero) to bring in bad guys. I'm thinking somewhere between Hellboy and Mal Reynolds.

Does it put the lotion on its skin? Yes it does. It does, or it gets the hose again.
