A proper roll this time. I'm not sure what I'm to add to it so I'll let you (DM) decide.

Manipulating the magic veil. 1d20 ⇒ 14

In the last sentence of my post starting "Clearing her throat...", I made the assumption that we're not close enough together to pass the picks to each others' hands' but we can do it from mouth to mouth. Apologies if my visualisations are wrong. :) (Incidentally, it goes Libby > Myra > Stavros.)

Female Human Sorceress 1 (Tattooed Sorcerer) Init: +3; 10/10 HP; F:0/R:3/W:3 AC13/T:13/FF:10

works for me, but that's what familiars are for.

I think I may have to be careful around you, Libby. You're a shady one :)

:)

See? Even the dice think I should be free!! :D

Regarding posting rates: it would appear that some people can post more frequently than the others. Do we wait until everyone has had a chance to respond or do we post as and when we can?

But not yet - Stavros was a bit rusty it appears...

Just a quick note for future rolls. I think this is universally true, but just in case it's not, Natural 20s are auto-success and Natural 1s are auto failures. Depending upon the nature of the roll, a natural 1 may result in some additionally negative effect.

Male Human Fighter 5/Hellknight 4 | HP 90/90 | AC 23, T 13, FF 21 | Fort +9, Ref +5, Will +6 | CMD 26 | Init +2 | Perception +12

It's generally not true for skill checks. Otherwise we could be leaping over skyscrapers with Nat 20 Acrobatics checks. :P

Well, in theory anyway.

Oh. Good point. Assuming your action is possible a natural 20 is an automatic success. Thanks for the clarification. :)

Male Aasimar Rogue 1; Init+4; Per+6; AC14; T14; FF10; hp 8; F+0 R+6 W+1; BAB+0; CMB+3; CMD 17; Str16; Dex18; Con10; Int9; Wis10; Cha13

Wow. Luck was definitely not on my side.

Regarding posts; I've been waiting till the end of the day to post, allowing everyone their chance.

Stavros, go ahead and post as you're able. Particularly now, as you've got to get back in your shackles and hide your contraband.

i'm coming sorry guys

You're taking 20?!!! :O

Imagine how many times you're going to drop the picks before you open it!!!

:)

Ha, I'm guessing Stavros was trained more in the art stabby stabby than locky picky.

I'm leaving on an impromptu road trip. I may be able to check in nightly, or I may not be able to check in again until Tuesday night. Please run Poki as appropriate.

It's probably easier if we just leave Poki chained up. She'll be dead by Tuesday and you can come straight in with a new character!!!

:P :P :P

Have fun, pH.

Poki, I will control your character as if it were my own - namely, making poor strategic decisions, ignoring all alignment restrictions and getting mind-blowingly awful rolls.

Have fun on the road trip.

How's this place lit? What are the light levels? Are the rooms that Libby passed through earlier the same? How many guards do she imagine to be in the next room, based on what she saw as she was led through earlier? (That is, how many tables and chairs? How big is the room?)

There are lit sconces along the walls and torches in some of the darker areas. The lighting in the hallway is dim. The rooms you were in are normal. You saw a total of six guard plus Blackerly during your "trip." But in the room you passed through, there is only a small table and two chairs. The room was a small square.

Also, you've been asked a couple of times about the veil. If you're purposely not responding in character, that's fine. I just wanted to make sure you didn't miss the posts.

Don't worry, I'm aware of the questions. :)

Opening the cell door is the most important thing, in Libby's opinion. :)

Does anyone else feel that the crimes we were committing at the time of our capture were, to put it mildly, ridiculous, given our skill levels?

Were we drunk at the time?

"Guys *hic* I've got thish great idea..."

Male Aasimar Rogue 1; Init+4; Per+6; AC14; T14; FF10; hp 8; F+0 R+6 W+1; BAB+0; CMB+3; CMD 17; Str16; Dex18; Con10; Int9; Wis10; Cha13

Theft, murder, mayhem; a child could do these things. Not so outlandish in my opinion. Only when Stavros went against the king did he fail. His plan would have been way to obvious, easily within the bounds of my current expertise.

Male Human Fighter 5/Hellknight 4 | HP 90/90 | AC 23, T 13, FF 21 | Fort +9, Ref +5, Will +6 | CMD 26 | Init +2 | Perception +12

Well, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that Gideon was drunk. The unholy power of darkness could certainly do that kind of thing to a man. Especially one who chose Wisdom to be his foible...

Male Tiefling Ranger 1 // Init + 5 // Hp 2/10 // AC 15, FF 10, T 15 // CMD 19 // Fort +1, Ref +7, Will +1 // Senses darkvision 60 ft, Per + 4

Arash was raised to do what he did and was offered up on a silver platter as evidence of his "father's" goodwill and ability. His life was a sham.

I agree that there are some crimes that anyone could do (arson, witchcraft, desertion, etc.) but others are a little far-fetched for someone with so little experience. Stavros, for example, could have had an Int & Wis of 16+ and yet still have decided that his plan was "absolutely-and-without-doubt going to succeed.". So...vanity? Bad luck on several fronts? Divine will? (Perhaps he wasn't devout enough!)

Mind you, some of the other AP 'introductions' aren't so great, either. :)

(Please note that this isn't a dig at anything that anyone here is doing, especially the DM, I'm just trying to get some conversation started. :) )

You got Stavros exactly. He didn't think. He just reacted and it cost him everything,

Kor/Mira hasn't posted for a while. Does anyone know anything?

Also, looking at the initiative order, seems I gave those daggers to the correct people! :)

Sorry for the inelegance of going into combat and the low-quality map - you guys did far less planning than I anticipated!

You and me both. (Although Poki just isn't smart enough to be the planning type.)

No worries; looks great.

Myra - you still with us?

If she doesn't post by noon my time, I'll bot her.

We will give Myra until end of day Monday to check in. If she doesn't come back, we'll find a replacement.

*feels left out* :(

Do I not get a go, DM?

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought your perception move was your turn. Go ahead and take your turn for round one. Sorry!

The post starting "NO!" was my round one turn. Libby was examining/listening at the door behind us (the one at F3, which also mean that she would be facing left.) If you'd rather do this after the combat is concluded, to make things easier, that's fine. :)

Oh. Sorry - I forgot to write up your actions. And update your arrow.

The door is open - that was Grumblejacks cell.

WTF are we fighting...the King's elite guards?!!! :D

I may be wrong but does Grumble not have reach? If he's 10' away, would the guard not be able to reach to use his AoO?

The guard stepped next to Grumblejack to attack, negating his reach. The tight corridor makes this a tough spot for the ogre to shine.

Fairy Nuff. :)

It appears that Myra is officially missing. I have a friend who can replace her, but I was wondering if any of you might know of someone here on the boards who might be a suitable arcane replacement?

Arcane? You mean healbot cleric, right? :P

I don't know anyone.

PS In case you think I'm metagaming, having Libby open the door like that, her thinking is that, if anyone was behind the door, they'd have entered the room by now. :)

All right, folks. I've got a replacement. He'll be checking in later today, but he's a human Hedge Witch, which will fill your arcane and healing needs, hopefully. We'll figure out how to make a hedge witch evil later.

Be sure to make him feel welcome - he's coming back to the boards after an absence.

Even bad guys need healing. :)

Hello, new person, and welcome.

DM:
Do the stairs go up or down? What's at the other end of them?

What is the guard stood in front of? (Hard to tell on the picture.)

Hello, everyone. Calvin here to check in. GM Tallgrass, just let me know when you'd like for me to join the game. I'll read through the thread to get caught up.

I haven't been around the boards in a bit - have things changed much in the last six months?

Welcome Calvin!

3 quick concepts for an evil Hedge Witch (if you need them):

Researcher - interested in how people heal or in specific diseases/poisons or their interactions, can inflict, heal, and reinflict

Torturer - healing victims means they last longer

Hedonist/Masochist - this works particularly well if 'poisons' includes other drugs; the patient can be the one to get the initial effects, and then the doctor takes on later effects which might be more enjoyable (for some definition of 'enjoyable')

Human Witch 2 || HP 14/14 || AC 12 Touch 12, FF 10 || Fort +1, Ref +2, W +3 || Init +2, Per +6

Oooo...I like the Researcher and Torturer concept. I think some combination thereof seems appropriate. Thank you.

It should be noted that Calvin is completely and undeniably insane. I will do my best to play it appropriately and as unobnixously as possible, but please let me know if I ever go too far or get too annoying.

Calvin, you can take over for Myra in this round of combat if you'd like. We can just handwave Myra - you all pretend she was never there and it's been Calvin all along. Heck, maybe Calvin THOUGHT he was Myra and is finally coming out of his delusion...

Yes, you had mentioned he was insane. I've reviewed your previous posts with him and think your level of insanity was acceptable. Perhaps you can go even a little darker in this AP.

So Calvin...what's your familiar. Poki votes for a scorpion. :)

Human Witch 2 || HP 14/14 || AC 12 Touch 12, FF 10 || Fort +1, Ref +2, W +3 || Init +2, Per +6

Because you're hungry?

I haven't really decided. I wanted something quirky, like an octopus, but I'm not really sure how well that work. A scorpion might be just what the doctor (or surgeon, I suppose) ordered, though.

Don't forget, unless you have a way to hide it, it won't be with you in this place.

It got quiet all of a sudden.

I'm waiting for Stav and Calvin to post before I do.

I'll bot for Stavros and then text Calvin.

Stavros - are you still with us?
