Hey, guys. Sorry I haven't been very active—I had a rather disappointing week in which I realized there is a very good chance I won't be able to find a new advisor and will be kicked out of school in the near future, and then some drama happened with my ex that left me basically hiding in bed all weekend.
Anyway, the party currently faces a room full of one gigantic deadly spikes-flames-and-sawblades trap, with a small door in the wall to the south.

As excited as I was to play a mind flayer in such a party, the pace of this game has spoiled everything for me. Maybe its fine for the rest of you, but waiting on something I'm excited about is not a state I care to constantly be in. Unfortunately, I'm just going to cut my losses and drop out. Please remove me and my alias, Zhu Da tusha, from the active players list so it's not cluttering up my campaigns tab. Thanx and good luck.

Anaxian |

This game does have its ebbs and flows. The pace isn't for everybody. Sorry to see you go.
I guess Zhu can just teleport out or something. Its not like Illithid are known for honoring agreements with "lesser races"

The Dapper GM |

Hi, everyone. Sorry I dropped off the radar for a month.
Basically, I've been in a really bad place for the last six months, and had the month of October to either find a new advisor or get kicked out of school. This meant doing a lot of work, learning a new programming literally every week, and basically being too intellectually drained to do anything as GMing.
I also felt guilty enough about this that I didn't actually check this thread for a month, that was kind of a dick move.
Anyway, long story short: I'm not getting kicked out of school, and I'm in a much, much better place now. If there's still interest in this game, I can start things up again, and sorry to crap out on you guys like that.

Delyliath |

Still here. Seems like all my games are freezing to a halt lately, both those I play and those I DM.
would be happy to resume this.

The Dapper GM |

Sounds good! Looks like we got almost through the last quest (the party is literally like 20 feet from the magic skull thing), and I'll post a status report some time monday to try and get things going again.
P.S. Shimsil, under rules of salvage, if you create a new character I think Drisquar gets to keep the sword?

The Dapper GM |

Here are the party's current resources. Anyone who's worried they'd run out of spells pretty quick is welcome to grab a few of the party's mind-controlled minions and act for them as well, since otherwise I may just leave them puttering around as forgetful meat shields.
Powerful Minions:
-One Charmed Succubus Captain of the Guard (Succubus + 3 levels of Lore Oracle)
-One Dominated Shadowdancer Captain of the Guard (use these stats), it should be trivial to mind-control her now that she's paralyzed
-One Charmed Bebilith (healed back to full health before the party rests)
-The Summoner's Ghost (if and only if someone wants to give him a "pep talk" and control his summons for one last battle on his part)
Middlin' Minions:
-One Dominated Magus Guard Sergeant (use these stats)
-Two Charmed Gugs
Corpses:
-Six Gug corpses, plus two extra Gug skulls
-Eight Drow corpses + masterwork gear
Other oddities:
-A mysterious Drow noble in a stasis field
-A Demilich
Most of a Demilich's standard attacks are only deadly to the undead... there may be some strategic uses to the thing.

The Dapper GM |

What could be an obstacle:
(The entire city forces, as you were able to scout. Some may have less desire than others to fight.)
-One Drow ruler (high-level cleric)
-At least half a dozen skilled arcane spellcasters (level 5-10) within shouting range of the throne room
-Two more captains of the guard (level 10-15)
-Four minotaurs
-Six driders
-Approximately 30 sergeants and lieutenants (level 4-6)
-About 200 guards and soldiers (level 1-3)
-Approximately 3,000 other citizens with varying levels of ability or will to fight

Drisquar |

What exactly am I keeping? I mean, I get its the sword that is/was Shim, but statwise, what am I getting?

Illia- |

Oooh, I'd love that Mantis Blade after I get another level to pick up Steadfast Personality. Might allow me to deal an enough damage to draw some more fire towards my AC/HP pool. In the meantime, the +3 longsword is a good +2 boost. :D
And, what's the strength mod on that Oathbow/can it be changed by our crafty construct? Also, can't seem to find what "Mighty" is in reference to items.
Mmm.. lots of lovely lovely gold to upgrade my basic stuff I never grabbed.
As far as team direction goes, Illia's a pushover who'll go either way still.
~~
While we're all editing our characters/swapping out... :P
I think I'd like to trade my current warlord class
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/adamant-entertainment/tos ---warlord
For this Warlord class.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/path-of-war/classes/warlord
The Gambit class feature all in all gives the second Warlord much more, shall we say, tactical flair? I think it succeeds far better at the "be an interesting tactical commander" than the original class I have been using (as it doesn't really do anything other than provide passive buffs).
It is ALSO an initiator class, which I recognize some people have strong feelings about. I figured that'd be ok, as I'm in the middle of a party of monstrous powers and mostly impressive spellcasters. My tankiness if a fun gimmick, and my Erinyes powers are awesome, but I feel like my combat options vs any sort of intelligent opponent are "Cast Unholy Blight forever, full attack for pitiful damage, or pray that the enemy suffers a momentary bout of stupidity and decides to attack me instead of one of the squishies."
But, I'm actually fine with taking the new class with the maneuvers taken out, or with them nerfed (maybe monster HD only count as 1/4th of a level for initiator level (in line with a caster taking the +2 CL trait), making me a Initiator level 4 instead of 6). Because even just getting the Gambits would go a long way towards giving Illia- interesting commandy-feeling options. Though, if the manuevers are taken out, I'd appreciate a buff to how often I get the gambits. ;)

Meredian Adriatnaic |

My item choices in order of preference:
The +4 Wisdom item is at the top of my want list.
Strangely the adamantine lance is high on my want list. I have things I can do with that. :-) Edit: the vicious property only works if you're holding it, right?
Mirror of sending is second on my list assuming it lets you use the spell a few times per day.
Whichever of the shortswords isn't needed by other characters would make a decent backup weapon.
Ring of counterspells wouldn't suck to have either.

The Dapper GM |

@Illia: Err... my bad. "Mighty" should read "Adaptive" (I don't know why I always get that mixed up, but I have before). If you're willing to handle the accounting, that class should be fine, but HD as 1/4 of monster level does seem like it makes sense in this case.
@Meredian: Mirror of sending is at-will, but takes a full 10 minutes to use. The vicious property appears to always trigger. Without a wielder, I believe this means it damages itself, but if it's made of adamantine that damage should be negated by hardness.
Everyone: go for it on whatever you can use in the next fight. Afterwards, there will be some extra cash and around two levels awarded in the aftermath.

Anaxian |

There have been a number of threads about this idea. The consensus is that even with DR or hardness the damage from the Vicious property cannot be negated.
That being said, there is a published module with a Barbarian using a vicious axe, who, as written, is immune to the viscous damage. So, clearly the developers don't even have a consensus.
Whatever you choose is fine with me. Just wanted to bring it up for discussion.

The Dapper GM |

I'm going with a vicious weapon does the same type of damage as the weapon (a la sneak attack), because otherwise it requires the creation of an additional type of energy damage to handle one specific rare enchantment. Also because I have a feeling whatever Meredian's planning is gonna get a Rule of Cool exemption anyway.

Meredian Adriatnaic |

My thought was more along the lines of using the lance in conjunction with telekinesis.
My initial assumption is that if I launch it at someone with telekinesis that it won't damage me. I am asking for clarity.
Rule of Cool = Violent thrust telekinetic launch.

Drisquar |

If nobody minds, I would like the Oathbow, as I have a pretty good Str and Dex to take advantage of it. Illia, if you want, I can give you my +1 adaptive longbow in exchange. Or really, anybody who wants it.

Shimsil |
I will follow this for now and look into jumping in when i get more time. Definitely not leaving the game though.
Looking strongly towards some Thunderscape class, if possible. It'll give some flavor to the party that we don't currently have... "biomechanical" but not terribly advanced (not a perfect cyborg or anything).

Illia- |

Mmm... sure, I do want it as well. I'll make my case. If we still decide on you, I'm happy to get an adaptive longbow. :)
I have higher BaB, Dex, and I'm about to take a new warlord class that will grant me access to these three abilities usable while I'm using a bow.
Intercepting Shade Readied
Standard Action, ranged counter.
Make opposed attack roll against an attack (not spell) targetted against an ally within your first range increment, if you beat the attack roll, you negate the attack.
Stance of Piercing Rays
Swift action, stance.
+1d6 fire damage to ranged weapons, increases by another 1d6 every 8 levels.
Pinhole Gambit
Swift action, personal
-Charisma (6) to targets AC until start of Illia-'s next turn, if they were engaged in melee with an ally (aka, getting the +4 cover bonus).
Granted, I'm still pretty likely to use my sword and spells decently often too.

Illia- |

We could also decide in character, which is ALWAYS entertaining. :P
Also, as far as selling stuff to the city then stealing it back.. Isn't that roughly the same as killing everyone and taking their stuff, only we don't get to have the stuff while we're fighting?

The Dapper GM |

You should be easily able to buy/craft a second similar bow just by selling all the stuff that's not needed (the spellcraft DC to craft is only 25), so it's just a matter of who's taking this one.
@Drisquar: I forgot to mention earlier. To modify him to make sense, Shimsil would continue to be an extremely intelligent scimitar that could be upgraded as a normal, with the following enhancements:
+2 Enhancement
Ghost Touch (+1 equivalent)
Keen (+1 equivalent)
-Can bestow haste on wielder as Boots of Haste (modified slightly from origin ability)
-Can change into a Kukri
-Speech, Telepathy 120'
-Blindsense, Darkvision 120'
-Can cast Mage Hand, Magic Aura (at-will)

Drisquar |

Illia, you're whole concept is based on being right in the thick of combat, drawing fire, taking hits we likely could not survive. While a solid bow is a good weapon, I have trouble believing it would be your main weapon.
Meanwile, one of my main assets is my speed, which, thanks to Shim can be be enhanced even greater. Also, while I don't plan on changing my class that much, I do want to take the Hersey Inquisition and Heretic archetype, both of which make me rather good at hiding. Having a badass bow goes quite nicely with sniping.
Also, you want the Mantis Blade, which is an artifact. Getting the Oathbow too is quite a lot of loot. Though, this is the least concern.

Anaxian |

I will be able to make a customer bow for whichever of you doesn't get the oath bow.
It might not be as powerful as the oath bow but it will have the benefit of being exactly what suits you best.

![]() |

I believe I am the only bard in the party
so the harp is pretty much usable only by me (and I would still need to put ranks in that perform for that, I'm going to by the next level)
I also made clear my intention to become anti-paladin
So a shield could come in handy.
I obviously like the +4 heavy a lot.
But I could go with the +2 light with the +1 duelist spike, upgrade the spike to Conductive and dual wield sword and shield with vampiric touch.
