Maka leaned against the wooden building past the second gate as Fin sent off to scout. The waiting was always the worst, but she had an especially bad feeling about things. Pulling out her magic jug, Maka took a swig before passing it to Quasit.

Don't mind us, just some soldiers taking a quick smoke break before reporting in.

Bulvi moves along without making too much noise, while normally surprisingly stealthy in his armour he has it stowed away knowing he will not be able to fit it inside the uniforms.

You quietly file into the inner camp, heading towards a nearby building. You see a variety of pieces of metal wagons in front of it, all of them obviously broken. The only thing that looks intact is a wooden wagon with one of the big, fast-firing guns the big metal wagon used attached to a framework in the front of the wagon.

Fin slips around behind the building while the rest of you hunker down next to it. He passes by some scorched ruins, the tumbled stones of its walls low to the ground, without much incident, and comes up between two long, low buildings that, while somewhat more intact, still show signs of fire, with holes in their blackened walls and roofs revealed as the roving lights play over them. The one on the west has some motion in it, at least three creatures moving around... but a much more distressing movement soon draws all attention.

Sakitu, hunkering beside the building, slips on an unexpectedly icy spot and just barely muffles a cry of surprise. Moments afterward there's a sudden, chilling growl from the building, followed by the sound of something large slithering quickly against the ground as one of the metal wagons creeps out of the structure. It's lit within by a pale yellow light, but you see no sign of crew peering out.

A cold, mechanical voice speaks into the minds of the group hiding beside the building. "Identification?" it demands.

Maka used all of her focus not to summon her flames, and thus couldn't help but slip into a defensive position. "Quasit, show it some papers!" Maka whisper yelled

"Get ready." says Quasit quietly to the group.

She then steps forward and salutes the way she saw Bulvi do, and attempts to answer back at the talking wagon mentally.

"Second squad, first platoon. Operating under the directives of the special Omega Three protocol. We have information for Lord Rasputin regarding the Thrice-Tenth Kingdom."

She digs into the pockets of the soldier's coat she wears and yanks out the first papers she can find. If nothing else, she goes for the dirty little scraps of colored paper she found when looking for money earlier. She then holds these up importantly.

Maka sprang into action the instant the metal wagon aimed its weapons at Quasit. A thrust of Maka's fist propelled a scorching inferno through the air. The bright blue flames blazed with an intensity mirroring her anger, a force that would have pushed Maka back if not for the stabilizing jets of fire emanating from her feet. The metal wagon groaned and protested as it was struck with a searing heat hot enough to melt steel.

Not long after he set out, Fin hears a fiery explosion and he turns back and looks back towards his friends. Seeing the fire near the building, he swears lightly and drops all pretense of stealth and makes a dead run…as he nears the building, he sees Quasit turn the corner. He slows as he draws his bow, stopping besides her, exclaiming, ”Erastil’s antlers! What was that, Q?”

Somehow, through the will of the gods or possibly sheer luck, Maka's flames must have reached the metal wagon's ammunition or fuel supply, for moments after her flames engulf it a explosion blows out an entire side of the wagon. It stops moving, smoke and flame pouring from its innards even as a second pulls out behind it.

Just need Kalchine to go, I believe?

I was just waiting for confirmation that Maka had, indeed obliterated the thing.

"I guess we're not sneaking any more?" Kalchine says. He pulls something out of his pocket and tosses it to the ground with a strange word.

It lays there for a moment but then starts to bounce and jump around before expanding and expanding and expanding until it is once more the familiar shape of Chest Thumper.

As the tank exploded from her fiery assault, Maka shielded herself with a well-timed explosion of her own. A toothy grin spread across her face before she exhaled a cloud of smoke in pain. Burns traced their painful path down the length of her arm, a testament to her own unleashed power. But as a second tank roared into action, pain faded as discipline took hold of her mind.

The tank's guns rattled, spraying bullets in every direction, but Maka was a blur of motion. She zigzagged and weaved through the deadly hail of gunfire, propelling herself through the air with bursts of flame. With a graceful somersault, Maka landed on the tank's armored hull, leaving scorch marks in her wake. Her flaming fists pounded on the metal surface, sending waves of heat rippling through it. The tank's armor began to glow red-hot under the relentless assault.

"Gah, the tower!" says Quasit. "Alright Fin, new plan. We're going after the tower. You lay down covering fire. I'm heading for the ladder!" The wild rogue then sprints off straight toward the tower, giving a wild yip of abandon.

"Look out losers! The alien Quasit is coming for you! Wanna see my papers? Hahaha!"

Sakitu covers her head as a barrage of bullets and explosions converge on her location. When there is a break in the chaos, she looks towards the watchtower. It isn't too far away. She focuses for just a few seconds and suddenly a sheet of ice, over a foot thick, coats the wall of the watchtower facing them.

As she lowers her hands, Sakitu sees Quasit running towards the tower. She shouts to her. "Quasit, I don't think that ice will last too long but it will probably give you cover enough to get to the tower."

Wall of Ice to put a 13 inch thick plane of ice over the entire wall. Presumably that blocks their LOS for whatever they are shooting with. I don't think it will last all that long but maybe it will save us a round or two. The ice has 39 hp.

Bulvi charged off towards the tower. He winced from the hits bullet wounds but knew the local soldiers over specialization at range would leave them at a disadvantage once he and Quasit closed.

I forgot to adjust Bulvi's AC. Since none of the locals are wearing armour Bulvi took off his full plate as I noted above for the ruse... he's going to be hurting for this fight. Unlike lighter armours he really wouldn't be able to hide it. I could lie but I need to take that hit. Even then with all the guns the full plate isn't going to be that useful in theory.

Maka and even Chest Thumper do significant damage to the metal battle-wagon's armor, and then one of Fin's arrows plunges in through one of the arrow slit-like windows. You hear the sound of shattering glass, and it suddenly stops moving.

The roar of the faster-firing guns mixes with that of shattering ice as the soldiers in the tower blast a hole in the wall of ice, followed by a couple of them taking shots at those approaching the tower.

Difficult to make out in the midst of the noise is the sound of a few other guns firing from another angle.

These enemies are attacking from stealth--it takes a DC 34 Perception check to tell where they're coming from.

Pain flared as a bullet nicked Maka's cheek, the shot having just been off the mark. The fire monk looked around, but with the chaos of the battle Maka couldn't make out where the attack had come from. The bursting of ice and the soldiers in the watch tower opening fire quickly drew Maka's attention.

Standard action fire blast, empower metakinesis +1 burn, move action gather power -1 burn, ride the blast. Target one of the soldiers firing from the watchtower and appear inside of it.

Maka blasted herself into the then used explosions to propel herself in a circular motion to create a tornado. The tornado pulled in air, fueling the explosions and sending Maka hurtling through the air. For a brief moment, she considered how odd it was that this technique was so much easier on her stomach. But after that moment, Maka collided with a soldier, unleashing the full force of the explosions on him.

It's difficult to tell with the darkness and the small cracks that the snipers are firing through, but Fin is pretty sure he hit something. The firing from the temple tower stops, at the very least.

Maka explodes onto the top of the tower, badly injuring one of the four soldiers there. She sees the light in the center of the tower, aimed at Fin, as well as a ladder that goes down to the ground, at the bottom of which Quasit and Bulvi are currently standing.

Move to building. Cast Haste on Fin. I know that I'm not getting anyone else in that spell, unfortunately.

Maka does indeed deflect that attack. Maka will make the AoO on the soldier she's already hurt if possible.

Maka was a flurry of movement as bullets rained around her. What few bullets she couldn't dodge she easily deflected with her armored bracers. As an arrow struck a nearby soldier, Maka decided to focus on the one causing the wail. In a blast of flames she crossed the room and set upon him.
