for those of you who are curious about the genetic makeup of a kasathaling, here it is, genetics weren't invented yet, but here you go.

genetic makeup:
48% Kasatha, 20% Human(16% actual humans and 4% who passed as human, such as Kitsune, Slyph, etc. Passed for human or close enough to human includes elf and half-elf which is .4%), 20% fecthlings, and 12% tieflings. There are other genetic races withing the kasathalings, but they are negible percentages, like less than .1% if you combine all the other races.

I have enough interested people already so I'm closing this to new people who haven't already posted here. Kydeem will be the last one in. I'm giving until Friday to finish up characters.

Kydeem: you are welcome to do a golem using the race builder. There was an android submitted that might fill a similar niche.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Feegle, it's probably tricky using the race builder rules. I think they should be tiny but I would allow some leeway on the damage amounts like letting their weapons damage as one step higher.

Scarab Sages

Aasimars and changelings, bunny girls(tieflings) and kasathalingthings, centaurs and anrdroids and golems and catfolk and strix. . . exciting times in ol Absalom i think.

Sczarni

Almost everything but human. The mammals in this play-by-post are wildly varied. Must remember to study anatomy of Centaurs, Catfolk and Kasathlings. Locating arterial veins and nerve clusters as well as leverage points and soft spots is of utmost importance.

For... reasons.

... Deadly reasons.

Wolfwaker, I can't get either of those in as described in the standard 10 race points.

I can't get a golem below 15 points (same as Aasimar) with the construct. However, I could get it lower if I used the half construct type. How golem-ish would you like it to be?

I can get a tiny fey at 10 race points but it isn't all that tough or strong as described in the books.

How do you feel about the alternate option of 20 race then only starting with 1 character level rather than 2 character levels?

According to my monster hunters handbook by Ibrahiin S. Amin, it says...
Centaurs are powerful and fast. They have intelligence of a human. They attack with skill. They fight in organized groups. Both their upperbody human and their lower body equine are vulnerable to blades and arrows. Mostly the battle is won with strength instead of skill, but their are good strategy tactics against them. Attack them from the side (both sides if you have two people) instead of in front or behind if in melee, this prevents them from kicking you. Hamstringing them also works. So if you ever have to fight one or want to know the anatomy of a centaur, well then there you go.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

Kydeem: I am being pretty loose with the races so I have approved 13 points for sure, 16 if it is based off a race in the Discworld books. I can give you my notes for the Feegle I was working on. I feel like they should be tiny but still be a viable combat character. You could go the finesse route but that doesn't seem to fit their flavor. I figure they are as strong as a small character and also tough, with the Dex advantage of being small.

Tiny (4 RP) +2 Dex -2 Str +2 AC +2 attack -2 CMB/CMD +8 stealth, reach 0
Slow 20' (-1 RP)
Standard (0) -Cha +Wis +Str
Confusing Speech (0) Feegle get a +4 to bluff/sense motive checks to pass secret messages, and a -2 to Diplomacy.
Fey (2) -> Low-light vision and leads into....
Surprising Strength (2 RP?) Feegle do damage as a creature one size higher.

total modifiers -2 Str +2 Dex +2 Con +2 Wis -2 Cha

maybe you can add something about bravery or tenacity or a trait to get rid of the tiny race reach penalty.

Sorry, going to have to drop my interest. I love Terry Pratchett and I love the guardsmen gang in the series, but I've realized with my schedule, starting up my own PbP and along with school, I just won't have the time within the next few weeks to post a character.

Good luck with your endeavors.

I'm not hiding that he's the CE assassin to my LN lawman.

Slayer is a very funny class that's all over the place, but they fit this character concept very well.

Scarab Sages

Just make sure you factor in the angry str ability otherwise you might be in for s surprise.n

Say what again? It says you are LN, not CE.

NAc Mac Feegle are not allowed within the city limits based on ordinances against weapons of mass maliciousness.

Kydeem:

The golem seems OK, I'm not sure about the power level of the +3 natural armor but it fits so let's roll with it.

The Feegle I'm not so sure, they are portrayed as strong but are mostly played for laughs. I would be OK with Str +2 if they are using tiny weapon damage. The DR is definitely too strong, they already get an AC bonus due to size. They are tough but that can be reflected in Con. Can you get the Str to +2 and the Con to +2 using the race builder? Maybe give them Improved Steal. If you play something like this it would be subject to GM revision later. I don't want it to outshine the normal martial characters. Not that it has to be weak but just not way overpowered. (I'm envisioning a guy doing d2+8 on 3 attacks per round.)

Stubborn 2 => +2 save vs charm and compulsion

I think I'm kinda leading toward lore warden if golem and ranger if feegle.

Who's CE?

Kydeem: Looks good.

Scarab Sages

Man i try not to get too excited or invovled before a selection goes down, but this is certainly a rough one to not get excited for. I already have future motavations of said centaur all figured out. Wants to purchase and run a tavern in the future, (assuming his wife doesnt shoot down the idea *lawls*)

Looking around, it occurs to me that Hazel is one of the more "normal" applicants for the job, simply being a changeling with some anger issues towards bad magic guys and vanity problems :3

I think the closest to "normal" in the Ankh Morpork city watch is the fairly well adjusted werewolf.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

Was going to balance the normal and the exotic. You guys are making it tough for me!

The A-M watch I think is still mostly humans, even if one is an adopted dwarf and one is of uncertain species.

If you want to roleplay a little while we are waiting (not required)....

On one of Absalom's streets near the police station, you see a sign. "City Watch. Officers Wanted. Good pay and death benefits. All races eligible." It lists a date a couple of days from now. A burly half-orc pauses to look at it and chuckles to himself before taking an application from the holder. You can overhear an older, well-dressed human woman mutter to herself in obvious disapproval. Her husband, a mustached gentleman with a military air about him replies, "Well, Charlotte, these are modern times. It is the century of the fruitbat after all." The half-orc pays them no mind and enters a tavern across the street. Through the front window you can see him take a seat, pull out a pencil and start writing.

The tavern. Not the fanciest in the city but not the kind of place you're likely to come out of with a concussion either. Signs advertise drinks, hot pies, and soup. A couple of coppers, one fat and one tall and thin, depart, heading back on patrol it appears.

Feel free to go in and chat with the other applicants.

Inside:

The muscled but portly proprietor glances your way as you enter. The walls are decorated with curios, humorous signs, and one giant set of antlers. There are plenty of tables available, and a couple of dart boards in the corner.

Hazel looks at the sign and smiles. This is perfect! Just wait until they see my qualifications - they'd be fools to turn me down.

The small humanoid woman marches up to the sign and takes an application. She scans it briefly, before looking towards the tavern that the half-orc entered, noting that it looks like he's already getting started on his application.

He's got the right idea. Early bird and all that. And they've got pie in there? Even better; I'm starving!

She strides across the street and enters the tavern. As the proprietor glances in her direction, Hazel smiles and gives a curt nod. Walking over to a table, she sits down and begins reading the application more thoroughly. As she reads, she can't help but wonder...

What sort of pie do they have?

A tall couple rather normal looking if one caught them out of the corner of the eye and didnt look below the waist,Their lower halfs however could indeed draw a strange look for their equine nature, approached the sign. The male of the two reached for the flyer drawing a look of consternation and a rather uninspired grunt from the maid. "We talked about this Usephani, No one is hiring traveling caravan mercenaries, and the gold we have saved up isnt enough to do much in this city. I told you that one sergent fellow said i should apply myself." The rugged looking male began. One could tell from the tone of their voices it was an argument they had already had... probably a few times.
"The Plains Kvell, the feel of the wind. Besides it says death benefits... that means its dangerous, what would i do in this stupid city without you huh?" The maid began pulling on his arm for a moment. He seemed stubornly attachd to the idea. He smiled at her and pulled her shoulders a bit closer kissing her forehead.
"Its a start right? that seamstress offered you work with delivery." He countered and her tail flicked in annoyance. She crossed her arm over her chest and sighed.
"Fine, fill out your stupid form." She said pushing against his chest and half moving away. "well go on, fill out your form, I'll see you at home tonight." She said shooing him away as she left off down the street. The male Centaur watched her go, he could tell from her gait she was still annoyed. The half orc in the tavern caught his eye with the pencil... surely one little pint wouldnt be too much while he filled the form out.

I'll have my submission posted tomorrow.

A dark shadow drifts down from a roof top settling in front of the sign. 10 foot wings fold up behind the dark shape as the Strix pulls a cloak up over his folded wings making him look much bulkier than he is. Taking an application from the box he turns towards the tavern his head twisting back and forth as he watches both directions on the street. Glancing after the centaur, Hopefully the magistrate’s referral will carry some weight with the City Watch. At least I won’t be the only non-human to apply.

Heading into the tavern Corvus walks to the proprietor and orders ale before taking a seat at an empty table. As he walks across the room he nods to his fellow applicants. Once seated he reaches into his backpack and takes out a neatly wrapped package containing a notebook, letter, pen, and ink jar which he sets out on the table along with the application. As he waits for the ale to be brought over he begins filling out the form glancing at the letter from time to time as he does.

@Wolfwalker if survival is going to be used for urban tracking I will want to do some juggling since I built Corvus's feat, traits and skills around using diplomacy via the urban tracking feat to serve that role. Let me know and I will fix him to match the house rules.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

Aquanda: I like the build you made. If a character has taken special features to do that, I'll give you a +5 on it since I don't want to nullify your build. If you prefer to reconfigure, go ahead.

+5 sounds great! :) I just didn't want to end up in conflict with the house rules. The idea was to keep the concept the same but just make sure it was following the right rule set.

I put some thought into it and decided to stick with beguiling liar as originally suggested.

In any case here's the fluff.

Berry's Tragic Tale:

BErry was born a tiefling. Daughter to a fearsome Raksasha prince whose skill with sword and dark deeds were legend and a prostitute her life was destiend to be fraught with peril where each day her blood and her environment would drive her to darker and darker deeds until she either became that which her blood beckoned her to be or rose up through sheer strength of will to become greater than either.

That is what would happen in a less interesting world.

Instead, her prostitute mother was a courtesan for hire, a quite intelligent and shrewd woman well aware of her paramours lineage and quite delighted to find herself bearing his child. Her father, though far from a kind creature did have a soft spot for the numerous bastards he left through the multiverse and did the best thing such a creature could do for his child; handed the mother a large sum of money and politely left without any fuss while her mother made a few good investments and retired comfortably to a life of luzury and title in everything but name.

Rather than a hideous creature of infernal power and evil that Tieflings are known to be born as Berry was born with a stubby white tail with downy white fur and a pair of rabbit ears as soft as velvet (traits her mother will say are most definitely her fathers). With huge red eyes and pale skin she was treated as a precious little treasure rather than a hideous monster.

In truth Berry wanted for nothing while growing up, she recieved all the love and attention one can ask for, anything she wanted could be hers and those things that couldn't were simply accepted, the best education available was given to her. And though she never took to book lessons and even less to etiquette she excelled in physical pursuits and fencing most of all.

But it was the time her half brothers turned 7 (sensible young lads with which nothing ill can really be spoken of) that she realized that at the age of 7 they were treated more respectfully and more seriously than she was being treated at age 14. She started paying attention to the thigns people said to her as compared to others.

To her horror she came to the terrible realization that she was beautiful, cute, graceful and just dumb enough that no one could take her seriously. In the mind of a person just turning 15 this was a tragedy.

And thus began the years of squeaky threats, as she imagined them, attempts at terrorizing servants, beating on lessers (And to a lesser extent equals) and otherwise being a terrible human being overall. Yet no matter how bad she was, how vile, how utterly fearful she tried to be the servants would shrug call it the "ides of growing up" and let it pass with a smile and a pat on the back.

When she turned 18 her rage had simmered to an adult form of silent outrage and with the blessings of her mother, the relief of her brothers and the sincere goodbyes of the servants, she left her home to make her way in the world.

Unfortunately there are few outlets where a woman with a perfectly shaped figure and tall bunny ears can make her way without a certain amount of visual groping by males of every race. After a few fruitless months of taking odd jobs in various positions (mostly where she stood around holding things, or handing things to people, all with the mental stimulation of peeling paint) that all ended in pinched bottoms and broken noses she found a job working for a a necromancer as a "dark mistress".

This job she thought would be more exciting as it seemed to entail mystic rituals, wrestling with demons, and epic battles with knights and adventurers. Mostly she stood around holding dead things or handing things to dead people. While she kind of liked the black nail polish and required black hair dye her short drk mistress career ended abruptly when she heard Ted* the necromancer refer to her as a mind broken sex slave. The clerics say Ted will recover though he will lose the use of right hand.
After this was a year or two in adventuring seeing that the only way she might gain some modicrum of respect. She mostly spent most of her time walking around holding things, handing thigns to other people and occasionally stabbing things. These brief times with adventuring groups usually ended with pinched bottoms and broken nose. Though one time she was kicked out after the groups paladin broke his code and lost his abilities after seeing her bathing naked.
When she arrived in Absalom she decided to get into underground dueling. IT worked out for a while and she made money and gained respect of a sort. But, it was the sort of respect she found that women got for being champion mud wrestlers. It wasn't so much about skill as watching her shapely bottom as she performed a perfect thrust to a mans chest and not only hitting home but missing any vital organs.
In a sense joining the town guard is yet another effort in a seemingly never ending quest to gain respect for something other than the bouncy round things popping out of her chest and making armor very hard to wear.

*Ted actually referred to himself as Teldon the Bloodgorger as it's customary for necromancers to change their names to something more intimidating once they receive their skull staff. Tar-Baphon for example once went by the name Simon and liked long soothing walks in the flowering meadows of his families estate.

I may have to adjust the bit of her background relating to how she joined the guard as a result of this RP. I hope it doesn't affect things much...

Spot wandered up to the sign. Well, more like she drunkenly stumbled up to the sign. Some would call her three sheets to the wind; those people would be generous as to how sober she is. To add to the image of being smashed beyond all reason, she was wearing the upper half of a Cheliax military uniform. The uniform was obviously not her's, in that it was far too big to fit her properly, and had several of its buttons missing, revealing the sailor's outfit she wore beneath it.

"Uh hed yuh luckin' feh gards. Can-eye joon?"

When the sign doesn't respond, she gives it a quizzical look before noticing the application forms.

"Oh. Gotta fill ou' dah foom."

She tries to grab one, misses, tries again, misses a second time, and finally manages to grab a form on the third.

Then she attempts to walk into the inn nearby, only to end up drunkenly stumbling into the doorjam. After slamming into it, she stands there and gives the doorjam a quizzical look, not understanding why it had blocked her ingress into the building. Then, seeing it shall not move out of her path, she shrugs.

"'Cuse yuh."

Then she finally stumbles into the building, beginning to head towards the bar first... only to place one foot wrong and trip over it with the next. She lets out a startled yelp as she falls forward, hands just barely getting into position in time to prevent a full faceplant.

"Ned pen. Gotta fill ou' dah foom. Und ned beeh.

Then she blinks and realizes she's not standing.

"'Elp up?"

Rarely did Kvell see someone so.. inebriated that well wasnt him this early in the day. He blinked at the young maid and half bent over grabbing her by her waist and lifting her up carefully trying to drop her on a bar stool. He saw the form in her hand that matched his and he colored looking around to see if this was some sort of joke. The half-orc was busy, a tiny (to him at least) pretty maid was in a booth also looking over the application.
"Barkeep, a pint of your ale and um do you have something to keep the miss here from well... passing out?" He asked raising an eyebrow... "I dont suppose you have some things to um.. fill out this form either?" He adding his tail flickering in randomness. It had just occured to him that he knew why his wife let him grab the form and why she took off... his ability to make words on paper make sense wasnt... the best.

"Pardon the interruption, centaur. I have possession of two pencils and you are in need of one. The code of charity dictates that I must allow you usage of one of these pencils."

The man speaking is a tall, thin overdressed creature in strange full-body armor, a ragged longcoat draped over his arms and shoulders. A wide-brimmed hat paradoxically sits upon his plate helmet. A soft light-- perhaps from some sort of magical implement-- glows just behind his visor, illuminating nothing. He stands with perfect posture, despite the backpack hanging from his arm and the armor no doubt weighing him immensely. The word 'EV-ER-5T' is written across his left pectoral in wide painted stencil.

Everest holds out an armored hand, with a stick of charcoal flat on the palm like a salt lick.

He notices the entry of another mammal, no doubt the woman's male companion by its tone of voice, and directs his attention to the centaur. "The likelihood of a centaur being well-versed in the nuances of the common Taldane dialect is low. Do you request instruction or assistance on filling out your form?"

Oz:
Constable Edgcombe was once a promising recruit as he made it through training easily and possessed a keen mind. It was thought he would make his way up the ranks in the City Watch quickly. Of course, all it takes is the personal hatred of one influential commander is enough to stymie anyone's career. You see, Oz was caught in a compromising situation with the man's daughter. A very, very compromising situation, the kind that only show up in tawdry tavern songs and cheapseat theatricals.

Of course, the thing that stings Oz the most about this whole situation was that there was absolutely nothing happening between them but the very universe seems to be set against him in this situation. A more superstitious man might seen the hand of fate at work here. Regardless, he has found himself assigned to the non-human test unit. Officially, he is supposed to serve as a human face to ease the worries of the more conservative Absalom citizenry. Unofficially, he is there because someone expects it to fail and want to bury Oz's records with black marks.

Born and raised in Absalom, Oz is familiar with the impoverished side of the city, the side he grew up on. He knows which streets to avoid, who is in the know, and where to find useful if dubiously legal items. Curiously, he balances his knowledge of the city's seedier side with a remarkable interest in doing the right thing for the people of the city. Burgeoning cynicism aside, he did actually join the guard out of an urge to try and do the right thing.

He is not the most sensitive of people, at this point he rarely gives anyone his respect unless they try to earn it first. He does not like the ruling houses of Absalom, he does not like the Pathfinders and while he does not particularly care for non-humans he is at least willing to give them more of a chance than many subsets of the population. Not liking someone is no reason to keep them from doing their job and doing it well.

I might embellish the backstory some but the long and short of it is that he is a grumpy Watchman that would have been more than a constable if not for some bad luck/the hand of fate.
