Hey Mattera, are you still with us? I know you lost your friend, which I'm so sorry about, but it's been 17 days since you posted as Mattera. If you don't have the time or energy to be involved in PBP anymore I understand completely, but I'd like get a replacement for you if that's the case.

Everyone else - Seems we're kinda back to the Argor and Cladissa show. Argor has three times as many posts as Nyugusk, and double Hrim.

Cladissa is about double Nyug and 150% of Hrim.

I know Nyugusk and Hrim have less time to post, which is fine, but the addition of Mattera as another relatively frequent poster was nice. Do you all agree that looking for a replacement is a good idea?

Sure. I'll DMPC him until the end of the mission. After that, he can be called away on another gig until if/when you're ready to come back.

Hey CDL! Current mechanical composition:

- Thron: Argor, human arcanist (summoning focus)
- Stalwart: Cladissa, human witch (broad focus)
- Jubal: Hrimnagel, svirfniblin inquisitor of Count Ranalc (archery + scouting)
- Gyrfalcon: Nyugusk, halforc (beastmaster, vivisectionist) alchemist (melee frontline / reach / grapple focus)
- Oterisk: Mettera, human fighter (going on leave, possibly returning)

All of the above can fly except for Mettera.

I'd say what I'm really looking for as DM is someone who can post frequently, like you, who is playing a character that can be the one to breach doors and go first into dangerous places. That's usually a melee character of some manner, but as long as they are sturdy it should be fine.

Since our melee people and scouts tend to post less often, we often get caught up waiting for someone to bust in and start the fight or whatever.

On Roll20. That was a summary post of what happened there. Rutai was being followed with scent by the hellhound, and so left and shut the door behind him. Sorry if I didn't make it clear.

I did spice up the character sheet some. If you want the meat of it, you can look at the Sabrina Hero Lab crunch tab, the Bentley tab for her animal companion, and the Appearance/Personality/History tabs for fluff.


It's fine the way it is, we just need to figure out the introductions and how she actually got the serum. The way it's written in her background would not happen.

Nobody new is getting introduced until this scenario is finished anyway, so we can keep communicating by e-mail until then.

After thinking about it, given her double agent thing, I realized that Sabrina would most likely not openly use her actual last name. Still debating on whether or not that would also apply to her first name as well. It's not like Paizo has a name demographics guide available.

Also, I greatly enjoy these sweeping debates between Diabloist Judge Dredd and the resident bleeding heart.

Ok, posing a quandry to the masses here:

I've saved up a solid 13,000 gp since this party has started, and am finally considering purchasing myself a magic item. Any suggestions? Currently leaning towards the following:

A) A custom-staff (Any spell suggestions? Leaning towards Scorching Ray, Invisibility, and Magic Missile for the moment.)
B) A headband of Intellect
C) Open to interesting suggestions.

@Jelani: Since we are playing with custom rules, if Sabrina Wild Shapes into something, would all of her mutations carry over? As is, some of the physical ones do not; by RAW, she turns into normal animals, but I could very easily see it going the other way. For example, if she did in fact ever gain a second head, would her Wild Shape forms get the second head as well?

I'd say that most of the ones she has right now will carry over. Physical mutations I'm going to say no on, as that would be kinda like stacking polymorph effects, and lead to all kinds of OP, I'm sure.

For natural armor, I guess use her current or the animal's whichever is higher (after enhancement bonuses).

In 3.5, you gained the animal's NA bonus, but based on my research, in Pathfinder, I'm 99% that I keep my natural armor in Wild Shape. Since it functions like Beast Shape or Elemental Body, you just get a flat untyped (I think it's untyped) bonus to your existing Natural Armor like you get size bonuses to certain stats.

Update on Wild Shape and natural armor. It seems that I was slightly wrong. After looking over polymorph effects and natural armor bonuses, I found that I wouldn't gain anything in Wild Shape. The serum/Eidolon's bonus is called a natural armor bonus, and the benefit provided by Wild Shape is also called a natural armor bonus; by RAW, they wouldn't stack. However, the Improved Natural Armor Evolution bonus is untyped and explicitly stacks with itself.

The rules are vaguer about racial natural armor bonuses. It says "While under the effects of a polymorph spell, you lose all extraordinary and supernatural abilities that depend on your original form (such as keen senses, scent, and darkvision), as well as any natural attacks and movement types possessed by your original form."

By RAI, you can say that racial natural armor is lost, but by RAW? The Universal Monster Rules don't list natural armor as extraordinary or supernatural; natural armor is only mentioned there three times: twice in Incorporeal and once under Swallow Whole. And under polymorph effects, natural armor is never explicitly listed as lost like natural attacks and movement types. Moreover, Sabrina doesn't get her natural armor from being a Half-Elf; she drank a magic potion for it.

In the one instance natural armor is mentioned, the universal polymorph description also says "Each polymorph spell allows you to assume the form of a creature of a specific type, granting you a number of bonuses to your ability scores and a bonus to your natural armor." So by RAI, it also stays?

However, Jelani already ruled that natural armor and everything else Sab gained sticks, so it's a moot point. I just wanted to point out where I was wrong (Wild Shape natural armor bonus isn't untyped) and how crazy technical this game gets.


Yeah, as far as I understand NA bonuses they are either untyped or enhancement bonuses. The untyped kinds are assumed to be properties of the creature you are (or have become) and don't stack with each other, but NA from items and spells is usually meant to stack with your natural natural armor. I think that's the same as what you said above.

As you might've gathered, I've worked out with Jelani to change PCs. I've mentioned before but I often went between certain scenes where I loved roleplaying him and others where he just felt 2-dimensional and I couldn't think of an enjoyable way to flesh him out. Ironically, introducing Gianluca as an old friend-and-lover, and having Nyug start to break down have made playing him more fun than ever before...but I'm still excited to get to give Gianluca a try.

Perhaps we *should* reincarnate Nyugusk...and have him come back unmutated, to go back to his life of research as part of the NPC ensemble for this game.

If you click through to Gianluca's profile, you'll see that I'm also trying out a 3rd party class, the Warlord, from Dreamscarred Press's Path of War...which is meant as a 'spiritual successor' to 3.5's Tome of Battle classes. If you have Qs about it, feel free to ask. I haven't played with it a ton--and Jelani and I agree that including it is an experiment that might need tweeking--but I'm excited both about the new personality to RP and about trying some new-to-me mechanics.
