Ulfr Uggason wrote:Hey Mero, what if we wrote a match about ourselves and then wrote a match we first saw each other in? So we would each wrote one for both characters? So my idea is she started out in back room, fight club style matches to work off her parent's debts, and once the people she was paying off saw how good at it she actually was, they put her in the arena.
I tend not to go too crazy with backstory on a 1st level character since it seems kind of overkill and a little off to write something epic and then barely be able to hit a goblin.
But the first time they saw each other in battle would be interesting, although it might work better for that t come up as a memory when the meet at the beginning of the adventure. What do you think?
That works for me! I've had to dial my story back for just the reasons you describe. :)

Excerpts from "Razner's guide to Magnimar the edited version"
House of Welcome - By far the priciest establishment I've ever been too...however worth every gold spent. The newest of girls there can do more tricks than a Vanara with 50 feet of rope. Come prepared with Poetry, coin isnt enough to get their best work . . .
Pricing 4/10 Choice 8/10 Work 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10
Overall 8/10
Dome of the Savored Sting - The good clerics of the Savored sting take to their work with a religious zeal that is quite refreshing. Dont go inebriated and be on your best behavior...they take everything very serious there.
Pricing 8/10 Choice 6/10 Work 10/10 Atmosphere 6/10
Overall 7.2/10
The Courtesan and Unicorn - Certainly.... a different sort of place, If you are looking for genuine Varisian affections, I suggest leaning how to dance and sing and seeking it elsewhere, If you want the flavor not the substance not a bad little place. Take only what you need, and maybe a pretty gaudy bauble or two, the girls within do their best to live up to the reputation of the exotic . . . Dont pay any mind to their harrow readings however its rubbish.
Pricing 8/10 Choice 7/10 Work 6/10 Atmosphere 6/10
Overall 6.8/10
The Shucked Oyster - Ah yes ... the Oyster. The biggest den of debauchery I know. I sometimes wonder if the workers are all right in their mind but they do enjoy their work. Have a fantasy about the goddess Calistria and Iomedae sharing your bed at the same time? They have girls that will dress up for that heresy be damned. The standards of business there are a bit lower, make sure you have the coin set aside to visit a temple just in case you come down with something.

Yeah, I'm gonna call b&+*@~~! on The Courtesan and Unicorn tying with The Shucked Oyster.
Have a fantasy about the goddess Calistria and Iomedae sharing your bed at the same time? They have girls that will dress up for that heresy be damned.
Actually the temple of Calistria is more than happy to do this as well, it's not heresy to them :3

I want to respond this but i don't how to do without coming coming off as creepy...
That's probably a good thing.

Hey its like BurgerKing versus Arby's and its a noble young son of Maginmar's tastes *lawls* its bound to be a little biased :P Besides maybe the Courtesan and Unicorn were on their A game that night *lawls* Twins.. so much trouble with twins >.>
Your Demented Storyteller |
It's not a taste thing so much as uncomfortable thing...
Temple of Calistria? Fine.
Raucous and debauches Shucked Oyster? Fine.
Super Racist Courtesean and Unicorn whose self-hating (and completely f@$&ing unhinged) owner has multiple attempts on her life constantly and thus always has a small brigade of devoted bodyguards with her? Ehhh no.
Trendon Razner |
but do the customers see that sort of thing?I get where your going from an eyes overhead thing, and goodness knows I agree *lawls* but its like when i was stationed in Korea... some guys purposely sought out the Tokorri midget for their debauchery to say they could. Doesnt make it right by any means but its a thing I guess.
I was more going with the idea of pretend harrowering courtesians really ignoring the backdrop stuff cause you are right ...eww
Your Demented Storyteller |
"see that sort of thing?" Um, yeah, they do see non-varisians in traditional varian garbs and acting as stereotypes, it's the whole point of the place.
Now, even to the people who don't care about that, they would worry about the constant assassination attempts on the owner and the unsociable but devoted guards she keeps with her. Even If you hadn't witnessed an attack, the books spells out that not only is it common knowledge, but it's a common occurrence.
Your Demented Storyteller |
and for the heresy thing, I didnt mean Heresy to Calistria... i meant more Iomedae, somehow I bet she would frown a bit at that.
just now saw this post >_<
Yeah, I don't know where I read it but there's a particular temple that has numerous murals of Calistria engaging in with explicit acts with other deities that they go out of their way to hide when followers of more reserved deities show up :3
Trendon Razner |
I certainly wouldnt blame Iomedae for hooking up with Calistria, *lawls* The stutter post was meant for that game hence why i deleted it *lawls* but yeah it applies here too, dont know why I thought a nervous stuttering druid would be the way to go, but it'll only last for a few levels, I mean once you can turn into a bear or something who gets nervous?

When her parents defaulted on a loan to Hagen, a wealthy and powerful moneylender, Ryn, desperate to keep the family's somewhat of a dive tavern from being taken and her family put out on the street, volunteered to pay off their debt. Always a regular and well known face around the place, the athletic young woman was already known as the surprisingly effective bouncer, quite often the last thing many a drunken lout remembered seeing on the more rowdy nights.
As it turned out, the creditor had seen her in action, and being a betting man himself, saw the potential of entering her in the backroom fistfights that moved from point to point, technically illegal, though there were often as many guards placing bets as anyone else. He'd enter the girl in a few fights, cash in on them underestimating her and make some good money before she inevitable faced a real fighter and was beaten down.
What he didn't expect was how good she actually was at fighting. Macth after match, Ryn proved to be a natural at brawling, far stronger and tougher than she looked, her skill was remarkable. After cleaning up in the backroom and pit fights, Hagen being the greedy bastard that he was pushed her to enter the arena as his fighter, dangling the full absolution of her parents substantial depts, rather than the slow process of paying it off, in front of her. It was a chance she couldn't pass up, and in all honesty, something about the visceral nature of hand to hand combat awakend something in her.
In her first battle, given the non-lethal nature of the Serpent’s Run battles she surprised the audience, coming forward without a blunted weapon but carrying only a shield. Most of the crowd came to the same conclusion as her hulking brute of an opponent. The girl would cower behind what feeble defense she could muster until he hammerd her to the ground and she begged for mercy.
They couldn't have been more wrong. In a breathtaking display of poetic violence, the novice gladiatrix laid her opponent out within minutes, to the raucous cheers of the crowd. Being the bastard that he was, Hagen sought to renege on his deal telling her that she would need to win a few more time to pay off the debt. He hadn't counted on her betting on herself, which due to the ridiculous odds, made sure she had won enough to pay him of in full.
Free of her family's well-being hanging over her head, she felt the thrill of victory in a way she could neither forget or resist, leading her to continue, despite her parents objections. She never felt as alive as when she was in the thick of a fight, with only her fists, her skills and her shield. Yet even the safe nature of the games began to dim the shine of the arena. Gladly able to win enough to make sure her parents could make improvements and have enough set aside for a bit even without the tavern, she volunteered to join the Pathfinder's, her combat skill a useful asset in protecting those of a more scholarly nature.

Again, it's a good book ^w^
I've read pretty much of all them aside from the latest so if anyone is interested in any of them feel free to ask.
And that's also how I got Neverhome's name, it was mentioned in one of the setting books. Can't remember if it was Irrisen or Worldwound though...
Oh! Also, don't know if anyone is interested but I will be allowing Variant Multiclassing.
I'll give the variant multiclassing a try if you dont mind, if im reading it right it gives me the sorceror spells right off the getgo and I get the other things as we go along is that correct?

When Sczarni witnessed this in action they quickly offered him a position in their organization which he accepted. While they were criminal in nature it allowed him to operate against other criminal organizations and continue to take out those that simply should not be with the hopes of finding out information that would take him to his lost sister. For ten years he did their dirty work until he the distaste of working for criminals finally caught up him. He acquired enough skills to operate on his own and made it clear to them that he intended to part ways and become independent. Furious at this his uncle forbid to let him leave their employ but was helpless to stop him. First appealing as family and later threatening harsh things on him and finally telling him that his sister would die as a result of this, Andrezi fled to Magnimar where he figures out his next path in life.
While a large majority of Calistria's followers tend to look towards her for lust, it is revenge that drove Andrezi to The Savored Sting. It is her focus on not forgiving and forgetting that drives Andrezi to follow her. Following in her guidance to sting in the most painful way possible he looks to her as the goddess of vengeance and feels no compulsion to stop taking and eye for any eye.

reading the book its not as clear as I would like. If you dont get sorceror spells period why would you even variant multiclass into it?

Yeah, I agree, but it says nothing about gaining caster levels, only the listed class abilities. I like the concept of the system but it leaves a few things out that make it rather weak in my opinion.

The Cinderlands are one of those areas in Golarion that seem designed to test a man's spirit. Many who enter the blasted, desolate landscape never come out. So it makes sense that when a member of the resident Shoanti clan, the Sklar-Quah (Sun Tribe), showed up a Serpent's Run people started to talk. He was massive, easily equaling the largest of the regular competitors, and he carried little in the way of protection. Only a simple chain mail shirt stood between him and his foe. Unless you counted the weaponry.
Ulfr always carries no less than five weapons on his person. Two huge weapons lay beside each other at his back balanced by two smaller (but still huge) clubs at his side. That massive bone was probably for show though. Oh, and there was a sling there, too. Kelid totems decorate Sklar-Quah style layers of desert robes in shades of orange and yellow and tan. His skin is weathered and tattooed. The Orc designs are a puzzle, but not overly uncommon. People who followed the martial matches made a point to remember his name.
His first match was highly anticipated by those in the know. No one from the Sklar-Quah had bothered to even exit the Cinderlands in years, much less join the contests of Serpent's Run. It was a themed match, the desert Shoanti vs a huge scorpion. The crowd settled in to watch, and held it's breath as Ulfr drew out his traditional spear. He brandished it and the scorpion charged, right into a roar and set even the dumb bug on his back end.
I'm not FINISHED! Reverberated through the crowd.
Calmly, without a care, Ulfr finishes his ritual. He spear sings through small holes in the haft a song of the hunt and of thanks for food provided. In the end, the spear is planted in the ground head first.
Ulfr meets the bug's eyes. It charges. Ulfr draws a huge thighbone that most though was just decoration...
When the dust settled, the crowd thundered.
The second match was against a Bear of the mountains. The crowd gathered again expecting another song of dedication. Ulfr walked into the arena, unceremoniously clubbed the bear into a coma, then walked out amid confused murmurs.
And so his name grew. Ulfr the unpredictable. Even Shoanti experts were at a loss as to his behavior. Ulfr the crazy for staring down a charging bull (whether he won was irrelevent). Ulfr Ulfr Ulfr Ulfr quit? What? He joined who?
As suddenly as he arrived, he was done. He packed up his stuff, walked down to the Pathfinders, and signed up.

Hmm, I'll have to go back and look at that. My suspicion though is that is all that you get as far as spellcasting.
