Arianwyn waves the concern away, "We have our own mounts."

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

"Mounts that will not be scorned by the Kargzant? I have my doubts.

"In that case, Pirot, I'm sure some of us could benefit from some work on our equipment -- though Arianwyn may consider himself well-equipped. This armor was good against duergar -- I am not so certain about riders who talk to their gods."

Any equipment upgrades would be nice, still running around in +1 armor

"You will not find Kargzant warhorses anywhere outside Kargzant itself. The armour I can help with."

Spoiler:

Tis the season to be festive. You can have an upgrade to your existing armour as an alternative to fewer treasure parcels. Tell me if you're taking it or if you'd prefer something else.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Upgraded armour

Arianwyn

Spoiler:

Level: 8
Price: 3,400 gp
Armor: Any
Enhancement: +2 AC
Power (Daily): No Action. Gain a +2 power bonus to a saving throw you just rolled; use the new result.

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

If we can make requests, I'd prefer a neck. My ref is so low it scares me. But, if not, armor would be fine :)

Whiteclaw

Spoiler:
+2 Amulet of Protection any good? I noticed your scarily low Ref during the last fight and did wonder about doing something about it.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Spoiler:
Anything from the armor or neck wishlist would be great.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Whiteclaw and all:

Spoiler:
Vel can make a +2 amulet of protection at cost, or anything up through our current level. Aim high!

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

Spoiler:
If Vel can make any neck up to 7, I'd lean towards Badge of the Berserker, since it's property fits Whiteclaw well. I'd be content with the Amulet of Protection, though.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Vel, I would like to get a better figurine of power - would I be able to get the following - using my current figurine as residium?

Ironwood Hound

This wooden statuette depicts a hunting hound dashing toward its prey.

Level: 10
Price: 5,000 gp
Wondrous Item
Power (Daily • Conjuration): Standard Action. Use this figurine to conjure a yellow-furred hunting hound (see below for statistics). As a free action, you can spend a healing surge when activating this item to give the creature temporary hit points equal to your healing surge value.

First published in Dungeon Magazine 160.

Not from me -- can only enchant items up to my own level

Vel

Spoiler:

Keicha’s Amulet
Level: 9
Price: 4,200 gp
Item Slot: Neck
Enhancement: +2 Fortitude, Reflex, and Will

Property: After an extended rest, choose acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison. You gain resist 5 to the chosen damage type.

Power (Encounter): Minor. You grant an ally within 5 squares of you the resistance from the amulet (losing that resistance yourself ) until the end of the encounter.

Whiteclaw

Spoiler:

Badge of the Berserker
Level: 7
Price: 2,600 gp
Item Slot: Neck
Enhancement: +2 Fortitude, Reflex, and Will

Property: When you charge, your movement made as part of the charge doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks.

Arianwyn

Spoiler:

As Vel can't do it, leave it with me and I'll arrange some suitably story-driven reason for Urho to grow in power.

Of course, silly of me. Apologies!

Female Eladrin Warlord/10

Kia considers her brooch. "It would be a good thing if this could be enhanced to give me more protection, but, if you cannot do that, there is something else I would like..."

A +2 Brooch of No Regrets is level 8, so may be too high for now. If that is so, then, can she go for the Vistani Eye Amulet +2?

Kia can have her Brooch of No Regrets upgraded to +2.

Reason - you mentioned you'd like the armour improved. Still want it or do you have your eye on something else?

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Can an item be upgraded in plus for the differential cost? Or is it a whole new item? The 80% tax on selling or disenchanting is a killer!

I'm happy enough to let you add pluses for the differential cost. The whole thing makes my brain ache, but that seems reasonable to me. As you'll have noticed, I tend to be a bit lax in the presentation of useable treasure, so you do need some way of updating your kit.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

I now have a +2 Amulet of Resilience up for grabs.

Happy Christmas :)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Merry Christmas!

Just need Reason to check in and confirm he'd like his armour upped or if he has another preference.

Reason?

Pirot unrolls a map and points out some of the salient features to you.

"The Kargzant are not great believers in maps. They are written things and untrustworthy, but you may find this helpful.

Each year, the Kargzant follow a similar path. The tribes pass from the warm lands to the cold in the summer, when the midges arrive. Then in the winter they return. Each tribe follows their own route, using passes known only to them through the Angyar Tomachek (Fang Mountains.

You are seeking the place of the dead, where the Bone Riders live. They do not migrate, but tend the dead and patrol the forest all year. Kuyo Tun is your desination."

MAP

Questions, requests and whatnot?

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

Which direction are we coming from?

Namarth is to the southwest. Your nearest recognisable entry point is Kurstifars Balaga ("Town without good grazing" and consequently despised by the true Kargzant, although they acknowledge its value as a trading post). It's a good three week ride away. If you wanted to sail, your best bet would be to return to Riggarth (five days ride away) and see if you can get Captain Bifrost or one of his friends to give you passage. It's much the same either way. Land journey of four days plus 2 week sail or land journey of 3 weeks.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Question: What time of year is it?
Requests: Can they teach me Disenchant (preferably for free)? Are warhorses happening?
Whatnot: I say overland.

It's Changetime, when winter offically ends. The Kargzant will be about to move their herds north.

Weltmann or Pirot can and will teach you Disenchant.

Warhorses you will have to buy. Arianwyn already has one.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Overland. Have fallen over and hurt my right arm. Not sure if it's just jarred or not. Typing is slowwwww.....l

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

All: Vel's going to indulge in some potion- and item-making before we go. Anything (not alchemical) you can pay for, up to level 7, she'll make for you. It doesn't save any money, but it's guaranteed you can get it! Also, her +2 Resilience Amulet is for sale for 680gp; she will consider an IOU for part of it to keep it in the party. There are also some party-benefit wondrous items we should consider, if people will chip in. Suggestions:
Battle Standard of Might (840gp)
Chime of Awakening (840)
Instant Campsite (1000)

Rev:

Spoiler:
Vel's going to take an hour and tattoo herself. Fireheart Tattoo, in the center of her chest. Also, the following:
Potion of Healing
Elixir of (Fire, of course) Dragonbreath
Total cost: 990gp materials.
Updating character sheet now.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

I'll chip in for the campsite. Could I also get a potion of healing, please?

Arianwyn wrote:

Hmm. Sounds like your festivities were as unfestive as ours are turning out to be. Get it looked at.

Vel spends an instructive, if uncomfortable, few hours with Weltmann as he irascibly shows her how to disenchant an item.

"Fingers, woman. Use them. They're arcane implements, not pieces of string. Precision."

Anyone want or need anything else? Speak now or forget it :)

Female Gnoll Warden 12 (Icewrought Sentinel)

I can chip in for the campsite as well.

Female Eladrin Warlord/10

"Well, if everyone is buying warhorses, I shall buy one too. Besides, I wouldn't want to take Selmer anywhere she might not be appreciated."

Kis is buying a war horse and a Mirrored Caparison if she can because she cares for her horses.

Spoiler:
Also buying two potions of vigour, which just about runs her out of cash except for petty cash stuff.

I'm also going to swap my level 5 daily if I may, because, with never more than one melee-based ally standing, it seems a little pointless.

Kia

Spoiler:
If you didn't retrain anything at level 7, you may do that.

Have sent a message to Reason and am awaiting response. Once he checks in, I'll get you a lovely new thread going. Just as soon as I think of a snappy title.

Female Human Wizard 11 / Master of Flame

Vel couldn't actually afford a warhorse with cash. She plans to make one soon, though . . .

** spoiler omitted **

Are you chipping in to the campsite? That would be four, bringing the cost to 250 each. I imagine Reason will want to take advantage, too, when he checks in, making it 200.

If I don't buy any potions, I can chip in for the campsite. Putting 200gp in, but can pay the extra 50 if it is required.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The group spend the next days in preparation for their venture into the wild lands of the Kargzant. Seraphiel, still grim from his discoveries in the Library, takes his leave.

"I must find out what evil I unleashed in my earlier life. That may be the purpose of my current existence. There is a pattern in these things, always."

For Gobi, the parting is a far happier one. Promising faithfully to rejoin his comrades, he is spending some time with Roswitha to her huge and evident delight. Blushing furiously, he explains a little about dwarven courtship.

"She's going to introduce me to her parents and that means I have to bring a gift showing how much I value her. I was going to give her the parts of the big ring I found. Magister Weltmann says they're priceless and that's how I feel. But then I thought that broken bits might not look quite right, so I'll have to think again. Vel had better take them and look after them for now," he burbles happily.

"I have to convince her parents that I'm serious and worthy as a suitor before they'll even think of accepting me, so you see..." His voice trails off in an unspoken apology at his desertion of his old friends.

For Whiteclaw, there is the comfort of another note from Hroaldr confirming that her dragon egg is still doing well,

..."although I think it would be a good idea for you to return for the hatching. Still a few months away, we think, but don't leave it too long. The lads and I at the Lodge will do our best, but we're not the ones chosen to raise this dragon. Give my good wishes to Pirot, if you managed to find him."

For Arianwyn, there is a bittersweet parting with Narissa.

Spoiler:

An evening spent in song and reminiscence ends on an odd note, as she breaks suddenly from his embrace.

"I hope that we shall meet again, dear love, but I sense you will be singing for my bones when the time to do so comes."

Then she laughs and pulls him close once more. "The better reason that our time should be well spent."

No, he can't. But he could buy her amulet, and she could buy a warhorse! I'm sure you understand . . .

I've heard from Reason and he'll be rejoining us in the New Year. Do any last wrapping up you feel the need for and I will formally close this chapter.

As always, thank you for staying with this. It's a pleasure to have watched these characters evolve from their beginnings back nearly 18 months ago and over about 5,000 posts. It's a privilege to play with you all. Long may it continue.

Male Eladrin Warlock (Feypact) 13 - Multiclass Bard - Hexer Paragon Path

Far be it from Vel to be in his debt. Go on then, I'll buy the Resilience Amulet. :D Will take 680gp off my profile.

Wear it and boost those defenses. Unless you've already got a neck slot item.

I'll take your word for it -- you're much more expert in these areas than I am!

Spoiler:
Well, if you're naming him after the lovelorn youth you unceremoniously deposited on the floor of the bar back in Riggarth, he was a gingertop called Viren. Bay can be bright, but always has dark points (i.e black mane and tail and often dark legs as well).
