He's responding very well to Elsbeth. A combination of her natural charisma and the fact she is obvioulsy a high born foreign lady.
His response to some of the others is likely to change when he learns more about them as well.
I've changed his personality somewhat from the way it's written in the AP. This is mostly to reflect the type of game I want to run, but also to make things a bit more interesting for the folks who are already playing/running this game.
I did something similar with the homestead as some of you would realise. It doesn't occur in the AP, but I subsituted out another encounter for it after some random encounters I rolled. Hopefully it will make things a little more interesting for you fine folk.
Cheers

When I get time for a propper post in game tonight I'll sort out timeing issues, no fear.
As for bluffing him, yes you'll need a new one, thoguh you'll have bonuses since its believeable enough and not something he's expecting you to lie about. However, depending on who's around when you make the test he may get suspicious if they can't keep it together while you're lying (since they know your real name I believe).
On that note, everyone needs to think about how much info they're going to give away about themselves in this situation. Some of you have interesting histories that may or may not bring advantage or trouble with this man.

Do you want us to give you that info as OOC or are we going to roleplay the dinner?

I think roleplaying it out may take a very long time. If you can summarise any plans for concealing things and a diplomacy/bluff role as needed I can wing through parts of it.
I'm finding the story is developing as I'm going with these guys, so it may be that as I write the scene based around your rolls and what you say we made need to play out another scene or two.
I'll post some in character stuff for all of you tonight based on what we've got so far and we can go from there.

But before then i'ld have to talk to captain, and i don't want him to know my real name.....i'ld like to avoid my true identity arrives to the ears of Asmodeus church
In that case, Elsbeth probably ought to make it a priority to talk to the rest of the party before dinner. No one knows that she's hiding her name unless she's already using a false name with the group. So far, Lev only knows that Arianna is keeping herself hidden.

Something you'll want to consider is that your names are on the charter and he's likely to want to check those, just as you want to check his (which is a good idea btw).
None of you made note that you gave false names initially, but then I also never played up to the fact that your names would be important later on. For the sake of ease of play, you can choose to have given a false name earlier if you wish.
I'm going to run things a little vague at this point, and fill in details as a kind of montage after we get some more things sorted out.

Lev has nothing to hide. He'll not try to guard his identity in any way. On the other hand, he's not going to be especially open with the Captain and he'll volunteer nothing, only answering whatever questions are directed at him as curtly as he does with anyone else.
Oops, you're right. I was thinking that the minimum pay was 3 silver a day. I'm also used to 'week's' being measured in ten-days due to homebrew campaigns. My bad.
Anyway, Lev still would have offered more than a gold a week. He's got the money and this is important to him.

Sorry about the lag in posting but I find that with a 5-year old my free time on the weekends is niether "mine" nor "free". Mondays are also bad as Monday night is my RL game and that I usually pick my daughter up right after work, meet my wife for dinner, then go right to my game with little time to read the threads I'm in let alone post.

Ok, in the morning, no matter what happens, Oleg agrees to buy all the sellable equipment from the bandit camp, all of it at half its value, as is standard merchant practice.
Total value = 764 gold
Remember that three suits of armour are ruined, Lev took one of the axes, Anya took a longbow, none of the arrows are being sold and the potion of cure light has gone to someone.
thats 127 gold, 4 silver each (rounding up the silver).
Oleg hasn't any new stock to buy from him yet, but by weeks end he's expecting a shipment to come in that people may find has things they want.
Cheers.

Apologies if I started any major bruhaha that undermines people's enjoyment of the game. I've just been trying to stick in character with Lev's low charisma and his motivations. Just in case people haven't noticed before, Lev's entire reason for going to the Greenbelt is to create a place where outcasts like himself can have a place to belong to. Bergan fits that perfectly, and if Lev can help to make Bergan a contributing member of the society that we're supposedly going to build, it'd be an extraordinary success for him.
Gandal
I didn't got offended by Lev's outburst, Elsbeth did. She is there for the same reasons as Lev, and she is used to command others. She probably thinks of herself like someone who should rule ( Charisma 19 ) and Lev's words sounded like a threat to her "you will do as i say when it comes to Bergan or i'll gut you open"
You did well in playing Lev that way no doubt.

Yeah, it was always going to be a bit of a competition for who rules with the characters we've got.
I'm going to suggest we let things play out a little more before tossing around too many ideas on who is going for which position. For starters, as a PbP we're just as likely to lose one or two players before we get that far.
Don't stress about playing your characters to character. I think as along as we all remember that's what folks are doing and make sure we don't take things to a point where it would no longer make sense for the characters to hang around each other. I don't see the Bergan thing as any worse than Mawj's love of hating humans hehe. Both of these have given me a large amount of material to use during any downtime.
In addition, there's the mercenary troupe now as well, and more folk will likely turn up as we progress to add things into the mix.
For those who want to start thinking about leadership roles etc, some things to note:
1) The swordlords are likely to favour someone who is a noble
2) They are more likley to favour someone who is a noble from Brevoy, however the common folk are less likely to do that.
3) Charisma is the most important score for a ruler in terms of how they affect rolls, but I'll be adding modifiers to that based on in game events and personal history. Things like how local nobles and businesses respond to people might be different to how the common folk respond depending on your background.
4) Every character has multiple positions of rule they could take on for a kingdom, all of which are important.
And finally, we don't have to go down the track of "One ring to rule them all", we could make it a collective rule where you all take on other leadership rolls and rule as a council (I'll average charaisma scores and modifiers to work out a group roll).
Things to consider at least.
Cheers

When i signed for the AP i didn't know what it was about. I just wanted to try an arcane spellcaster and a char that gave some roleplaying challenge. That high charisma was just to power up sorcerer's spells, i didn't want to compete over power with other pc's....but now it is getting fun :)

Posting has slowed quite a bit in this section. I'm getting the feeling its as much the fault of my scenario as it is peoples busy lives.
What can I do to make things clearer or get us back on track?
If worse comes to worse, I can always give away the secret of the area so you can progress as needed, but I'd prefer not to.
A summary of things found so far
- House belonged to a young married couple with a sickly child.
- The house is now deserted
- Happs and his men were scared to enter this part of the woods
- A spirit of some type now posesses the house, as evidenced by various parts of the house being "Haunted"
- Lev has shared with Anya that they had a vision of the husband being murdered by Happs and his men, and that the woman in the house was desperately trying to find her son before the murderers did. This impacted both Lev and Alandra enough they ran in fear trying to find the boy.
- Arianna suggested you might need some of the items from the brigand camp here, since they were once owned by the people living here.
Maybe there are other items that may be used to intereact or prevent the spirit from acting on you as well.
I have used the rules for Haunts in the DM guide to create this area, and have built in alternate ways of making your way through this and solving the problem, including the use of social skills if necessary. You just have to figure out how to use them and what things might open up the opportunity to do so.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Personally, I'm having a good time. Things slow down a bit sometimes, but this is still one of the more consistantly running PbP games I'm in, and I'm really interested in what's going on here with this old farmstead. Lev's possession was particularly interesting.
I honestly think that the biggest factor in the movement of the game is our radically different schedules. A lot of us seem to live in very different time zones and have pretty varied access to the computer. That just leads to a rather unusual posting schedule. But so far it seems to be moving pretty smoothly, all things considered.
Gandal: The whipporwill is a bird, particularly well known for it's song. They tend to sound haunting and kind of spooky.
Tanner Nielsen
I think horror and suspense are some of the more difficult moods to convey in play by post games. While some slowing has been due to real-life scheduled, previous games I have run have encountered problems in that players sometimes just do not know what to do. You see an orc? Attack it. A locked door? Pick it. A giant cliff? Climb it. A haunting spirit? ...
"Well, we're first level, so I don't really want to try to fight it. Half the party is running around barmy, so I probably don't want to get any closer. I don't have any skills or spells to help them, so I probably cannot stop whatever is driving them mad. If there is nothing to fight, no going closer, and no spells or skills to use, then I might as well just stand here and wait it out."
This has happened to me on numerous occasions. It is an artifact of play by post gaming, not the content or style of the posts. I imagine when Carrion Crown comes around, you will have a lot of parties feeling frustrated by their lack of a definable objective with a clear solution. Conversely, the vagueness of the situation magnifies the feeling of suspense, which you are doing a great job of conveying. ;)
Wander Weir
Tanner's right. It is a particularly tough scenario and a lot of the difficulty probably relates to being first level. I certainly know what to do in this situation, but I know that Lev wouldn't because he's never encountered anything like this before.
So we've just kind of got to blunder through it and do our best to work it out as we go.
Gandal
I thought the same, this isn't an encounter for our level. Let's wait and see. I was wondering when we'll go exploring other exes. This is my first time playing Kingmaker, i guess some of you already explored the whole stolen lands, so maybe there is a precise order to face the various encounter to make them easier ?

I must have given the wrong impression.
For the record, I'm not saying this is an inappropriate encounter for our level. I'm perfectly fine with us dealing with this scenario at 1st level.
I'm only saying that in a PbP, dealing with this sort of spooky situation at first level is extra challenging because sometimes the only obvious action is to express ignorance. That's more easily done at the table if Lev looks over at Alandra and says, "Can you tell us what we're dealing with?" She'd be able to respond immediately and then we can choose our options a little more clearly.
With the pbp, there's a lot of delay if Lev asks the question, Alandra makes a knowledge check, the DM provides the information and then Alandra responds to Lev. In a one post a day sort of situation, that one thing could take two days to resolve.
As a player I'm also perfectly fine with us getting in over our heads with something and then retreating because we're not ready to handle it. If that's what happens here, that's fine. We just need to realize and accept that it'll take time and slow down the resolution. It's very much in the nature of a sandbox scenario like Kingmaker.
