[5e] Master of the Fallen Fortress [Completed!] (Inactive)

Game Master mishima

Heya, never played nor GMed 5e D&D but reading it lately it seems quite appealing. Would anyone be interested in a quick Master of the Fallen Fortress run converted to 5e? I would want to avoid Unearthed Arcana stuff for this first time at least, keep it as pure to the PHB as possible.

Well, yes. I would play in such game, specially if there is a change to keep playing more adventures if everything go well.

Sure, if things go well I'm willing to commit to some adventurer's league scenarios or more pathfinder modules. The larger stuff spanning up to the teens I can't really honestly promise though.

I'm not familiar with that module, but I'm experienced in 5e. I'd he interested.

Well some more details maybe in order then, its a small module compared to other pathfinder modules. It was originally made for a game day to preview the pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide if I'm not mistaken. Maybe one of the first to be released for free? I wouldn't expect it to go on longer than a few months.

Basically, a tower which had been magically shielded for thousands of years has a section that crumbles in an earthquake, breaks the ancient shielding, and the party is tasked to investigate. Very simple and straightforward combat/exploration, but the environment and the encounters hopefully will give me a good grasp on 5e mechanics.

This thread may be of use to you.

Thanks, indeed lots of good stuff there.

Hmm, if its just you two would you be down making 2 characters each?

Well, I could but I have doubts.

What about DMPCs?, you could treat them as NPCs out of combat (so they have their goas and personalities) but you give them to us in combat.

Unless you desire to run the AP with only two players, I'd be up for it.

There isn't many chances to play 5e around here, and even with 'mostly core' the game sounds nice.

A couple, mostly obligatory, questions: Feats allowed or not? What about Variant humans? Basic stat array, point buy, rolls or which stat generation method?(I'm partial to rolling, if only because I like it that way)

Sure, I like the feats. And yes to variant humans. Stat gen method I'll leave up to player, but rolls should be recorded in the thread. Same with starting equipment, players choice with pre-gen loadouts vs spending coin (rolled).

I wish I had the experience to up front list all the variants I'm cool/not cool with, but that isn't the case. If you're wanting something else you will probably have to bring it up.

Backgrounds though can be totally player created. I could be wrong but it seems pretty hard to break/abuse those.

If we have 3 PCs I could alter the encounters a tad without any DMPC or extras. Would you guys like to set a deadline for applicants? Another day or so? Just hit it with 3?

ok, I think I will roll a fighter or a cleric. What is the method for rolling stats?

Choose one:
:::> 4d6 drop lowest, assign as you like
:::> standard array (15,14,13,12,10,8) before racials
:::> 27 pt buy (with costs on pg 13 of PHB...basically 8 starts costing 0 and cost increases by 1 for every 1 stat increase, capping out at 15 for 9 cost..skips 6 and 8 in cost progression)

4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 1) = 13 - 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 6) = 18 - 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 3) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 3) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 2) = 13 - 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 3) = 16 - 15

Wow, nice. :)

Yay to everything! I'll roll stats now and prepare a juicy character over the weekend.

Statty Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 1) - 1 = 12
Statty Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 4) - 2 = 16
Statty Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 1) - 1 = 17
Statty Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 4) - 2 = 13
Statty Stat: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 4) - 4 = 14
Statty Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 3) - 2 = 12

Holy Tiamat Mother of Dragons.

Hehe, dang, didn't realize you guys were the gods of dice rolling.

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 1) - 1 = 6
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3) - 2 = 9
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 2) - 2 = 11
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 6) - 3 = 16
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 4) - 4 = 15
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 6) - 3 = 16

That'll be an interesting character.

Reroll that 6 if you'd like, Al.

How does a Monday (GMT 12pm June 12th) deadline for applicants/creating characters sound?

Naw. I like a low score here and there.

And I'm good with that timeline.

Is there any chance of this going beyond 1st level?

Yes, unless I'm making a mistake somewhere, you should reach lvl 2 during Fallen Fortress. Give me a few and I'll nail it down, I was still on the fence with one monster that isn't an easy copy from 5e MM. I'm still getting familiar with the encounter building.

I also mentioned committing to doing some adventurer's league or other converted pathfinder modules after if everyone was still interested.

I have a copy of Volo's Guide to Monsters, it may be in there. Plus I have experience converting to 5e, if you need some help.

Confirming 2nd, I'll probably just have you level up at an appropriate moment instead of keeping track of xp rewards.

Also just wanted to say thanks for the interest to all.

BEsides the obvious powergaming, what other use there could be for high stats in 5e?. I mean, weird or difficult character concepts that are too hard or lackluster normally. I don't know, the diplomatic fighter or the melee wizard .

If there is still room, I'd love a chance to try out some 5e.

Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 5) - 1 = 16
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 4) - 3 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 5) - 2 = 11
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) - 1 = 11
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 4) - 1 = 12
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3) - 2 = 9

Welcome Slyness, for sure, you would make 4. :)

Elians, that would be my guess. You could take a more varied collection of skills. It would probably also facilitate multi-classing (no clue how good/bad multiclassing is in 5e).

Ok, I've changed my mind. I'll reroll the 6. I'm going to go with a dwarvish battlerager barbarian, and I'm not really sure where I'd put the six. I was originally thinking of a wizard or cleric with 6 strength or Charisma, but browsing through the Sword Coast Adventure Guide, I saw the battlerager and wanted to try it.

So here we go!

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 6) - 2 = 14

Hey, pretty good!

Awesome Al.

I'm going to go ahead and set up some slides and invite you guys over to the discussion thread.

Would you be interested in a 5th?

I really enjoy 5e quite a bit and would like something short after I've had a few PbPs fade out without conclusion. However, if you would prefer a party of 4, I'm cool with that. I just got into another game I'm excited about, so no hard feelings. But if a 5th player would fit your plans, I'm interested! :)

Sure, come on in.

Cool, thanks!

This is AL DM, here's my dwarven battlerager.

Just checking on Elians and Emissary, come chat it up in discussion if still interested.

I've been trying to come up with a character that I feel close to, but sadly I've hit a writer's block.

Sadly, I'll have to withdraw, but I wush y'all a great deal of fun!

Is this game still a go? If so, I'd like to take Ems place. I've ran half of the new 5E boxed set in another forum, but have yet to enjoy 5E as a player. What type of posting rate do you expect? I'm off for the summer (school system perks) and can commit through August, maybe a month or two longer if needed.
Here are stats for my character if accepted:

Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 4) - 1 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 1) - 1 = 12
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 5) - 1 = 21
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 2) - 1 = 10
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 6) - 1 = 18
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 6) - 1 = 17

Sure, welcome, we still haven't started yet and getting things together in the discussion thread.

Posting rate will be determined by you guys. I'm on vacation and refresh at least once every 30 minutes.

Hedge, looks like you accidentally subtracted 1 from each of your rolls instead of the lowest die from each of the rolls.

You still looking for players?

Ah sorry, think we have enough now. I'll let you know if anyone drops though, thanks for the interest. :)
