Quickly getting to the point.
I'm writing a novel.
I've glanced and googled the open game licence. Wasn't 100% sure if it answered my questions so i've taken it here.
So the question.
If I wrote a novel based off an adventure path (rise of rune lords, curse of crimson throne etc etc ) and then planned to publish it with the idea of making a bit of money from my effort...
Would I be violating something?
like some kind of copyright thing since the core plot from the adventure path isn't even mine?
I'm not one to plagiarize so obviously I will be changing a lot of names and even twisting the plot so it flows within my own world built universe.
I have no trouble writing my own plot but I do love the adventure paths and owning all 19 pdf adventure paths ( +1 of the most recent one but incomplete), I would like to see what it would be like if my own MC lived through it in a non tabletop fashion.
Thanks for reading.

I think you'll get a better answer from the Paizo staff, but if you're writing a novel based on someone else's intellectual property for profit, that's a problem. The open game licence has to do with the game system, going back to D&D and WotC. Stuff like their AP's, Golarion, etc are not covered by that. If you're writing something inspired by an AP that's one thing, but just taking existing material and changing the names is probably both not very creative and a violation of their intellectual property.
I'm not a lawyer, but I suggest you contact Paizo directly.

You would be violating copyright if you wrote a novel based on Rise of the Runelords and then published it to make money in the same way you would if you wrote a Star Wars or Iron Man novel and then published it on your own.
If you want to write a novel for publication, you can NOT use any of our content at all, more or less, since the only part of what we publish that's covered by the OGL is, pretty much, the rules, not the flavor text.
