I suspect that the entirety of Godbound will not be used. I think he mentioned earlier that he disliked the combat system, so we don't have to worry about that.

Question on setting more so then mechanics before I dot in interest
NOTE SPOILERS

Some of what is revealed on the setting page doesn't cover everything

Location subquestions A Are the events in Iron Gods, Wrath of the Righteous and Strange Aeons also in play? I see that the Worldwound expansion is, but that makes a difference in the Iron Gods location and at least one city in Taldor

1A Unity became a god, and the Technic League, the black Sovereign, and Numeria's local government are all toast, along with the main city since the tech guys accidently detonated a nuclear weapon on Starmount?
What would Unity's domains be? And did the Dominion of the Black become attracted to Unity's potential reactivation of the Divinity Drive?

1B)How far along is the expansion of the Worldwound? The full monty or just partial?

1C)And in Taldor, is Hastur (and by association, the other GOOs and OG pantheon) growing now that he stole the city?

Location subquestions B

1B Varisia: I remember the setting idea/thread from way back but my question is on Varisia, specifically Shattered Star.
Does Xin use Magnimar as a base and fight against Kaurzoug? And is Kazavon fully reassembled as per the revised CoCT, with Ileosa as his queen, partner, or controlling influence? Are the servants of Kon-Zuthon active fighting against Ileosa and Kazavon since he was a pain in the rear for the god's cult?

2B Stolen Lands/Brevoy: So is the nymph from Kingmaker challenging the rest of the Eldest now, and nothing exists in the Kingmaker/Pitax area but desert?

3B Kelesh: If the Fire Bleeder is out going burninating the countryside for love, did this kick up the other Rovgaug spawn?

4B Osirion: Who wan the war between the Forgotten Pharaoh and the current Pharaoh? Did the Forgotten Pharaoh implement more flying pyramids to engage against an expansionist Firebleeder and potential revolutions by other gods in the Osiriani Pantheon?

Production Suggestion: I also suggest Suzerain for a demigods/Big Heroes source as well.

Are any of the Giantslayer events in the canon of this setting, or were they pre-empted by Karzoug's and Tar-Baphon's returns?

1a and 1c) I don't think we'll be using Iron Gods and Strange Aeons. I don't own the books, and while I am considering picking up a few that I lack, I don't want to spend too much on the APs.

1b) 6 months out. There will be some slight alterations, but what's on the map is more or less what will be in game.

Varisia: Unsure, 100%. Events from all the APs that took place there are being used, just not fully positive what I'm doing there just yet.

Brevoy is under the domination of Choral the Conquerer.

As with Varisia, I'm not sure what's up with the Stolen Lands. I plan on getting book six of Kingmaker, to see what happens if the PCs fail. If all that's left is a barren wasteland, that's kinda boring, so I might change that.

Katapesh is the nation destroyed by Xonti, I believe. But, there will be some stuff with the other Spawn as well.

Mummy's Mask is one of the APs I don't own, but am considering purchasing, so unknown at the moment. Same with the events of Giantslayer.

Finally, I don't think I'll be using Suzerain. Godbound is free, and it's a pretty solid system, so that's probably all I'll use.

It's officially a barren wasteland, *but* the place has a natural connection to the First World which was just rent open in a major way, so I assume that Fey will pour through and fill it (because that's just how connections to the First World work).

Btw, do you have the Mythic Realms book? Because there's places there I wouldn't mind visiting.

Works for me. 6 to 8th level would be my preference, but any is fine as long as we're not 1st level going to save a yet another village from orcs riding axebeaks.

On Iron Gods, it does strike me that if Wrath happens first, according to the 'if you fail' epilogue the Silver Mount gets blown up, which neatly erases the issue. I mean, I suppose the minor AIs are still running about but not the big kahuna.

So if SoP is allowerd I'll probably play a Shapeshifter, but if not, then swordsman or hercules type. This setting sounds rad. Looking forward to more info.

Sitting quietly with a crazy strange Bard/Oracle/God of Music and Hope idea. :)

Will VMC be allowed?

VMC?

Scarab Sages

Variant Multiclassing. Basically you give up half of your feats for some of the class features from other classes.

Interesting concept. Can't really play at the moment (wish I could), but I'll be watching.

As of right now, the only definite parts of Godbound that we'll be using are the Words/Gifts.

For those of you who have read the rules or are familiar with them, are there any other aspects you would suggest? No guarantees, but I can at least look them over.

The Fray die. If we're going to be fighting large groups of enemies by ourselves, that will help out immensely.

Scarab Sages

I like the fray die as well. Also the Divine Surge is very thematic and I was interested in seeing that used.

Choon wrote:

Fray dice seem cool, and easy to use.

Divine surge? I can't find that looking it up in the document.

Scarab Sages

It's a little after the fray dice. P21 just under the picture with the dragon. Basically, of you go down you have a once per level chance to come back in a big way, but if you fail you are almost certainly dead.

Ah, divine fury! Ok, that also looks pretty good to me.

But I don't think we should do much more than that, there's a good amount of rules I'm having to absorb as-is ^^

Scarab Sages

No doubt.

Second the fray dice and Divine Surge - depending on exactly how powerful our enemies are going to be. Either that or something like the Mythic 'Hard to Kill' rule.

Scarab Sages

I like Divine Surge because it's just so awesome feeling. It's not just "you die slower", it's "win now or you're done".

Fury, not surge. That's the word bit that threw me ^^

Scarab Sages

Ya. My bad. :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think I'm fairly definitely going to do a kitsune sorceress, and probably go for a fairly political approach.

Couple more questions for prospective players:

1) Do any you plan/intend to gather worshipers/start a church? Or do you think that might be something you might possibly interested in eventually?

2) I haven't read it yet, but what are people's thoughts on the magic system in Godbound? If we don't use it, we either need to disallow the Sorcery word, or re-work it entirely.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

If my character gets selected for this he won't be starting any church himself, at least not intentionally - he wouldn't object to one started in his name though!... Still checking out godbound, so not really familiar with the magic system in it yet... will be able to respond to that soon.

Worshippers? No. I could see manipulating a church, but not starting one. At least not in the foreseeable.

Speaking as someone who wants to play a sorcerer, I want to stick with the pathfinder magic. It'd require learning a spelllist and yadda yadda and it'd be a lot of work.

You allowing Psionics MG? I saw some posts on it but did not take the time to fine tooth comb the whole thread thus far.

I have a PC Psion Monk I would submit with Godbound tweaks if Psionics were to be allowed.

As someone who hasn't had time to skim the Godbound pdf yet, is it akin to Exalted in which an existing deity has invested power into you, or is it more like Scion where you're "godspawn" and basically growing into your own god-state?

1) My character actively wants to mend the world so he might not set out to found a church but would get active and involved once one started forming around him. Both for the benefits it brings him and because he would consider it his duty to help support and guide those who turned to him.

2. I think we could simply lose the Sorcery word, or merge it with mythic, so that taking the sorcery word lets you cast mythic versions of spells. Those are on the SRD etc so it would be a simple way of doing it.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

ok... finished reading sorcery word, and I don't have a problem with it, it seems different enough from mundane magic that it can be wielded separately or in conjunction with mundane sorcery. just my 2 cents.

Both. It's essentially a replacement for mythic/epic/godling/D&D immortals/rule sets etc (off which there are a ton of rule sets for) Interesting how people like to be gods or serve them). Though the PDF kickstarter has potential rules for demigods in demigod mecha, so....

Grand Lodge

Not sire what to do here now. So amny options. Maybe somesort of paladin or warpriest

I like the mythic idea, I'm more familiar with the mythic spells.

Playing a sorcerer it'd feel weird if we have special sorcery stuff which I wasn't using, but I could see doing that one.

Hm, though I'm thinking I may go more social in my words...

I will probably be playing a monk who is travelling the world to make it right.

So, I had a thought that formed into a suggestion about what to do in regards to the words that grant a baseline stat (like the might word). What you could do is make it so that the stat listed is the minimum that you can have, and the stat would increase by +1/godbound level we gain after 1 (so at level 1 it would be 19, then 20 at 2, 21 at 3, and so on).

Already on that Vrog. Talking to my co-gms about how to handle them, as there are many words that just grant that, and nothing else, which is kinda lame.

I think I'd be down for forming some kind of weird orthodoxy but I haven't digested godbound enough to know how the mechanics would work out. If someone wants to go in with me on a tri-aspect goddess church we can pool our resources on building the actual orthodoxy from our 2 or 3 characters. (If there's only 2 of us we get to make up a mysterious 3rd that the church just invented wholesale, or something).

This is definitely interesting to think about - so many broken places/plots/kingdoms. Just all the things.

Color me intrigued :)
I will have a lot of reading to do for this but my first thought is to create a sort of monk swordsman with a temple sword and the wind stance feat. That one comes online at lvl 7.
Speaking of, as for starting level I would vote somewhere in the 7-9 level, or 10-12. Both ranges would create a different kind of atmosphere for the game.

Another idea, I might jack the hercules idea and build a barbarian :)

I'm game! What kind of god are you building??

I'm thinking my Kitsune may be officially deificly neutral, but can work as an envoy and diplomat for your newfound church.

I am going to make the child of Sarenrae. I will be team fire. Now I just need to figure out what Pathfinder class I'll be playing.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

Team Fire is an excellent choice.

Remember, the players will not be forced into being a party, or even working towards the same goals.

Which, reminds me.

From my OP, and with the heads up that much and many might change/be added

Is there any particular area your PCs would wanna investigate/deal with/etc?

Worldwound would be one of the biggest things for me - trying to heal the world is hard when there's a huge tear in the middle of it. Fighting demons however is not high on the priority list... tricky...

Nikolaus de'Shade wrote:

Perhaps trying to permanently close it using the a localized Aboleth Colony drop solution would be another way to go, or heal the tear by channeling enough energy into the planet so it closes.

I'm thinking druid, cleric, or sorcerer with the Riftwarden prestige class, or if 3rd party is allowed, psychoportive/nomad psion.

I'm thinking I'll likely want to go and find Xotani the fire bringer. Challenge him to a fire cage match. Also, dealing with the second darkness, cause I have this crazy idea that Sarenrae knew that there would be a 2nd starfall and give birth to a child that had the essence of the sun in it.

That child would be me.

Edit: Just how close are we to a recruitment? I'm super excited to start working on my character.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I was hoping to use my character with appropriate level changes and such that was in a rotrl game that ended early (we only got into book 2 or 3, but he'd have a grudge against Karzoug and maybe not be able to deal with Karzoug alone, but might work on fixing things he'd set in motion that were 'wrong'... and eventually confronting him...

but I'm amenable to other paths as well.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

I could probably open official recruitment soon, but I do not believe the setting is fully ready, so were I to do, the game would still likely not start for awhile. Ie, long recruitment, plus possible delay in starting the game.

We'll see however. I might be able to gear up some stuff in the next week or so while I am on vacation, depending on how busy I'll be.

This looks awesome! I skimmed through, and noticed someone's idea of a kitsune social character trying to bring people together, and my mind started going. I'll probably look over this more fully and throw in my opinions soon-ish/, but I am definitely interested.

Edit: Oh wait, that was more than a passing idea, someone seems to be using it. I'll come up with something else.

Vrog Skyreaver wrote:

Nice, I had a (failed) Wrath game where I played a Sarenrae child. Didn't make it to the reveal...

I'd be interested in hitting the Shory Sky City of Yjae at some point... but that's a long-term goal because I like the idea of having a flying city base.

Mostly I'd want to be in a place where I can interact with governments (and/or government type people, I figure there's some people on the run after their lands got smushed) and do diplomacy, which can be almost anywhere. My goal will be to direct the course of countries and forge alliances (or at least point nations towards a goal I desire). So location wise, I can work around/with others.
