Aasimar - name your top 5 classes

Advice

I'm curious, if you could only create 5 classes using the aasimar race, which ones would you choose? Base it off min/maxing, backstory, roll play or whatever criteria you like.

Depends. If you're allowing the variant ancestry, it's extremely diverse. However, I like having Aasimar Paladins and Bards for flavor.

Dark Archive

I'm playing an Aasimar Cleric with the Evangelist Archetype, and he's awesome.

Shadow Lodge

The favored class bonus for aasimar oracles is really, really good. I would definitely check those out. By level 10 you can channel like a levee 15 cleric or have a level 15 animal companion.

Too true, I should have clarified. PFS legal builds only.

The Variant Heritages are PFS legal (if you own the book).

Garuda Blooded Inquisitor, Gunslinger, or monk. (dex/wis and See invis SLA)

Musetouched Bard, Ninja, I suppose swashbuckler ACG playtest (dex/cha and Glitterdust SLA)

Angel Blooded Bard, Ninja, Oracle, Paladin (Str/Cha and Alter Self SLA)

Cleric, Druid, Barbarian, Summoner, and Sorcerer.

The Aasimar (Azata blooded) Bard Dawnflower Dervish is one of the most powerful and versatile classes 1-20 that I've seen, especially if well-built and well-played. Use the FCB to enhance Inspire courage and in later levels use Siwft actions to bounce back and forth between Inspire Courage (+8 attack/+8 damage) and Inspire Heroics (+8 AC/+8 saves) as needed.

Grand Lodge

Oracle, Bard, and then Barbarian.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

in no particular order:

- aasimar, sohei 1/empyreal sorc 1/eldritch knight

- aasimar, cleric of gorum: rage/ferocity domains, channel smite[negative]/guided hand build (especially in mythic!)

- idyllkin(scion of humanity; racial heritage-dwarf), stonelord paladin 5/sentinel

- angelkin, oath of vengeance sacred servant of Ragathiel paladin: rage domain (especially in a high level game)

- idyllkin, oracle: lunar or nature, celestial servant feat and favored class bonus to super companion

honorable mentions
- musetouched, oath of vengeance paladin 4/dawnflower dervish (with favored class bonus to inspire courage)
- lawbringer, inquisitor of Dranngvit (intimidate build)

Thanks so much for these fantastic suggestions. Its appreciated.

Angel Blooded Oracle(Purifier) Lunar Mystery, with Celestial Servant feat and the Tiger companion... basically made my non LG "paladin" of Desna this way.

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

I'd put in honorable mention for Plumekith (Garuda)
Racial trait for +2 crit confirmation with bows.
Racial +2 dex, +2 wis. See Invis SLA.
Zen Archer build.

+1 Muse-touched bards.
+1 Angel-blooded Oath of Vengeance Paladin
+1 Aasimar Life Oracle. Heavenborn trait (+1 CL light and good spells)

Note that the Aasimar favored class bonus on oracles has been nerfed with regards to Animal Companions (for Nature Mystery)

Angelkin Scion of Humanity barbarian with the racial heritage (orc) feat. An invulnerable rager that gets wings, baby.

Oracle, nearly any. The fcb is too good and with variant bloodlines you can easily fill may roles.

Anything where I can't have a dump stat.

Hey Wanderer, do you have a link to that ruling? I read it... then for the life of me cannot find it again. And it came up in a recent character creation discussion.

Thanks

I also agree with the Azata blooded Bards and Garuda blooded Zen Archer monks. Angle blooded Paladins are groovy as well.

Standard Aasimar is great for a channel based Cleric. And as mentioned, any Aasimar with a Cha bonus is great for a life Oracle.

Source?

Sovereign Court

For PFS, I am trying a Warpriest 1, Wizard 1, Eldritch Knight 6, Arcane Archer 2, Eldritch Knight 2. The Warpriest worships Shelyn, taking the Air and Protection Blessings.

So far, he has made it to level 3.

The scion of humanity stuff that people are suggesting is not pfs legal, there is a note on the AR that says you must be of the race to use it's racial options.

There are racial options, in other books, that are available though.

ARG is restricted, but there are a number of other books that are not.

Well, I see that as a PFS houserule, that completely destroys my future build.

Quote:
Scion of Humanity Some aasimars' heavenly ancestry is extremely distant. An aasimar with this racial trait counts as an outsider (native) and a humanoid (human) for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids.

They count as Human, so they can take human feats, spells or archetypes. They cannot take the alternate racial traits. The note is listed because in the ARG, it states that the race specific archetypes and abilities are generally limited to the race in question, but MAY be used by others at the GM discretion. In this case the discretion is given... no.

To clarify, its not that they can't be Scions of Humanity, but that the additional resources limits racial options in some sources to members of that race and trumps Scion of Humanity/Racial Heritage.

For the OP, I'd say that Warpriest, Cleric, Oracle, Shaman ACG, Fighter, and Bloodrager in no particular order. The first 2 are very MAD and rely on WIS and CHA, Oracle FCB is amazing, Shaman suffers a bit from MAD too IIRC, and Fighter and Bloodrager are both low-will classes, so immunity to the person line of spells[charm, hold, dominate, etc.] is amazing. Bloodrager also has Abyssal which lets you enlarge even as an Outsider.

Aasimar: Cleric, Paladin, Wizard, Sorcerer, Ranger - 5 classes I would chose. I would allow prestige classes on top of this. They are angel-humans, thus good-divine classes focusing on deities make sense (cleric/paladin). Some of their alternate racial options like emberkin favor arcane magic more (wizard/sorcerer: with a good deity). Rangers are the main divine casters that are careful, cunning when necessary, and able to put on a dissembling guise - which is almost verbatim from the aasimar description.

(I haven't seen the Shaman class yet)

It's still a great boon. By level 12 you can have a level 16 equivalent companion instead of an 18, that's not too terrible! You can pick up a few extra hps or something. I'm using it for a 2 level dip in paladin(saves are so precious) and still have my ac be better than a druids, he'll be a 15 level ac by 12.

I find it better for the lunar Oracle though, better selection of animal companions.

The Circle is now complete. I had a feeling that the nerf bat was going to wack Tieflings and Aasimars (guess my time playing WoW has made me sensitive to the tremors in the Nerf force, I feel Gunslingers and Summoners are next). Since early May, I have created the following Tieflings/Aasimars (most of them are at least level 2):

1. Aasimar Lunar Oracle
2. Tiefling Witch
3. Undecided tiefling/aasimar with 3 GM credits
4. Tiefling Paly
5. Aasimar dawnflower dervish
6. Aasimar Varisian Pilgram

I love it when a plan comes together :)

first of, nice! i love the angel wings feat for... all classes really.
aasimar can make amazing monk with wings...

a few Q's to the people here:
many mentioned barbarrian... why? what aasimar has to offer there?

i wonder what is a better build for a divine caster of gorum?
what is the most effective oracle ? (angelkin)
1) oracle of battle, maneuver master favorite class for great buff.
2) oracle of life, versatile channel and favorite class for healer and smiting.
3) oracle of nature\lunar with big animal tiger killer (favorite class)

what is the most effective cleric of gorum ? (aasimar of angel kin)
1) rage & ferocity, channel smite (negetive) for mega added bonuses for each round - never ending and spells...
2) heroism & either ferocity or tactics for knight like summoner\warrier.

Scarab Sages

Wood Oracle with the FCB to the Armor revelation means you will never have to buy armor in PFS, which saves you a huge amount of money. Combine with Wood Bond, the Shilelagh spell in low levels, and Wood Weapon in High levels and you don't need to spend money on weapons either.

-base aasimar undead-frying clerics (usually of iomedae)
-garuda-blooded ranged attackers (particularly ranger/'slinger/zen archer)
-angel-blooded dawnflower dervish bards
-angel-blooded paladins of any stripe
-(various) aasimar wiz/clr/mystic theurge (early entry SLA, no stat drawbacks, decent FCB's depending on side chosen)

I have an archon-blooded monk/warpriest of Irori that I'd like to play, and just dropped a floating PFS GMing credit onto so I could play him in the future. He's not descended from any celestial, though - he's turning himself into one in successive incarnations. He's hoping that he's only two or three incarnations away from transcending the mortal plane entirely and becoming a lantern archon. Unfortunately his dedication to self-perfection through various methods leaves him a bit antisocial, as he's critical of other people's weaknesses and tends to lecture them.

Mechanics-wise he'd play like a monk with access to swift-action buff spells, which helps them out quite a bit.

I think an aasimar bloodrager would be a lot of fun, though if I play one of those I'm more like to be from Hermea than I am to play an aasimar. (I'm waffling quite a bit between bloodrager and paladin/sorcerer for my eventual Hermean dragon disciple build).

Shadow Lodge

I've refrained from playing an Aasimar for quite a while because I saw so many players just using them to bump their stats for the mechanical bonus. Then I had an idea that fit an Aasimar and decided to jump on the bandwagon. I now have an angel-blooded Aasimir paladin (with the "sacred shield" archetype) from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. I started off thinking that I wanted to play a Valkyrie who got wrapped up somehow in the Pathfinder Society, and has to deal with foreign concepts like moral ambiguity of that neutral organization.

But for mechanical advantage, go with the angel-blooded paladins with a different archetype!

I choose tiefling for my paly and went with the lay on hands build. Basically, she is a huge damage sponge :)

Oracle - Life & Lunar are awesome, but others can be very good too. Having an in-play connection to celestial powers just makes it even more thematic.
Hunter - because a celestial lion is just pretty dam- er, darn cool.
Inquisitor - Garuda blooded, as mentioned earlier. I have a heretic inquisitor of Red Mantis I've been pondering for a bit that I think I'll have a lot of fun RP'ing assuming I get the xp on them in time before the PFS cut.
Bard - Musetouched begs for Bard :)
Cleric - cleric of Yamatsumi from Tianjing
