This is a GREAT Poster for GotG!!!
Got to say...well played, gents! If you are going to homage for laughs, that's the way to do it.
More and more, I have to say I am liking this movie in spite of the sheer potential for "stupid" of Marvel movies. Well that, and Zoe Saldana's Gamora...whew!

did I confuse my del toros AGAIN?!?!
Benicio Del Toro = actor who sounds/looks like he just got of bed with a hangover in every movie.
Guillermo Del Toro = director who looks like Peter Jackson's cousin and loves putting even-weirder Cthulu monsters in every movie.
Does that help clarify? Too mean?

It's not actually an "official" poster from them, but James Gunn repost it (and others) on twitter from a group of fans that are making a bunch of these type of parody posters... so it seems he approves!

Hmm... not that I dislike the trailer, but it's not in the same vein as previous outings. More... generic. Less... funny. Except for the obligatory "funny bit in a serious film" one-liner (2 lines in this one).
I suppose they're trying hard now (with less than 6 weeks til release date) to market this as "another one of those fab Marvel films you've all flocked to until now - very much like the Winter Soldier, which you really liked" and less of the "goofy, outer-space weirdness that will work when there are bums on seats, but is a very hard sell to the general public before then".
For me, I prefer trailer 2 (Spirit in the Sky) but horses for courses...

I still find this one funny - you have to consider they are appealing to British humor instead of American though. This is more deadpan than slapstick.
Right. I didn't notice until after I had watched it, that this is a trailer meant for UK audiences.

I'm from the UK. I laughed at the 'bomb' lines. Still think the overall tone of the trailer was wrong, but then again I'm more into comics and superhero films than your average Briton. So they probably need a more 'normal' trailer to grab them. Don't know what the average US citizen is like, but more genre-aware than us, probably.

I saw a 17 minute sneak peek of this last night in IMAX 3-D. I hadn't previously planned on seeing it in 3D (usually avoid them because they don't add anything), but this one I definitely will be. I haven't seen 3D done in such an immersive, compelling fashion since Avatar.
Aside from that revelation, it was just a whole lot of fun. It was the Kyln/Prison sequence, which is kind of what I figured they'd show. Action, comedy, cool scenery and aliens. Rocket is kind of the centerpiece of the bit, but everyone had their moments and contributed quite a bit. I was surprised by Drax's performance, which I thought would be the weakest, because I'm not sure Dave Bautista is a good actor (haven't ever seen him in anything and I don't follow wrestling), but it worked. They seem to have made some changes to the character's origins and persona from the book a little bit, but it was interesting, and played off of his perhaps less nuanced acting ability than the others, and set him up as a believable and menacing straight-man to Peter Quill and Rocket.
Groot was also pretty fun and more nuanced than I'd have thought, considering they appear to be going with the merely "I am Groot" dialogue that became a sort of running joke in the latter part of Abnett and Lanning's Guardians of the Galaxy run (he spoke more normally- if still referring to himself in the third person- in Giffen's Starlord mini-series which this movie seems largely based on, as well as in his prior appearances and even in portions of DnA's GotG).
Can't wait for this to come out!

New extended trailer is out... more Ronan, brief glimpse of Yondu, more Farscape-ish camaraderie, some new scenes, and "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways.

Alex Martin |

"Why would you want to save the galaxy?"
"'Cause I'm one of the idiots who LIVES in it!"
Looks like it's trying to frame more of the plot outside the comedic elements - and certainly agree its giving us more background. While I am loving the whole notion if this movie, I am starting to worry that it's giving up too much in these trailers.

um the Sakaarities or whatever...aren't they from the Planet Hulk series? I thought I remember hearing something like that???
That's what they renamed the Baddoon when they couldn't use the Baddoon name. The native Sakaarans from the comics are insectoid rather than reptilian, though.

So, here is a spoiler-free review of the full film.
Looking great.

I am looking forward to the movie. The feedback has generally been positive for sure.
Have noted that several reviews have mentioned a 'Star-Wars' like quality. Apparently, the novelty of the movie's sci-fi setting (using obscure Marvel characters) and a retro style (which harkens back to the original 70's series) has kind of called back to that franchise.

I'm seeing it Sunday. I was tempted to go to the advance screenings one of the local comic shops organised last weekend, but I decided for this one I wanted to see it at the premium cinema, because the last time I was there was when my ex dragged me to see the second Twilight film. Have been waiting for the perfect film to go back for, and this fits the bill nicely (honestly I'm entirely expecting this to end up as my favourite Marvel film so far).

I was thinking it was Reality, but it could be Power. The only one confirmed, I believe, is Space (the Tesseract). Aether could be Reality, I guess, or Power. (Frankly, the visuals of it seem more like Space, to me, and the visuals of the Tesseract seem more like Power, but who the heck am I to say?)
There's also whatever is in Loki's staff (presumably Mind).
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Cask of Ancient Winters (used in the first Thor) will turn out to be Time. Which leaves one more, yet to be revealed. Given that the Collector hasn't had much to do in the films yet, I am also curious if they are planning on doing the Korvac saga for a future Avengers film (in which case that might be where/when they bring in the final stone).
Guardians is estimated to pull in around $95 million this weekend (a low-ball estimate from what I've read). Pretty good.
My favorite of the movies is still Winter Soldier, which I feel was the most nuanced, paced, and well-written of them all so far, but this is up there. Avengers is probably my number 2, but this gets close to #3 for me, though I'm not yet sure. I'll take in another viewing soon to see how it holds up on repeats. Enjoyed the heck out of it, though.
