Classic Adventure Path Hardcover compilation now available for preorder!

We welcome you back to the city of old Korvosa!

Paizo will be returning to the classic Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path this fall! The Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover will compile the original 6 Adventure Path volumes into one comprehensive tome, updating them to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game ruleset, giving you everything you need to run an entire full-length campaign.

In the Varisian port city of Korvosa, the death of a monarch leads to chaos, and only the PCs can hope to save the city from its own darkest tendencies. As the rule of the young queen grows more and more draconian, it's up to a band of bold adventurers to stop the spread of tyranny before all of Korvosa is crushed beneath her iron fist.

In the Curse of the Crimson Throne, the heroes delve into the depth of urban adventure in order to stop riots, combat a plague, root out organized crime, and rescue political prisoners before escaping to the harsh badlands of the Storval Plateau, where only the friendship of the barbaric Shoanti and a weapon drawn from the heart of a gothic castle can give them the strength to return and depose the evil queen once and for all.

Along with updates to the classic Adventure Path volumes, the Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover includes:

  • Expanded adventures, including a brand new mission written by Creative Director James Jacobs, that sends heroes into a perilous dungeon run by the queen's infamous Grey Maidens
  • Updated illustrations of classic Curse of the Crimson Throne characters
  • Updated rules for monsters, magic items, and character options, some old, some new

The new Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover is available for preorder now! Though not part of the Pathfinder Adventure Path subscription, if you're a Pathfinder Adventure Path subscriber and preorder, you'll be granted a free PDF version when your subscription order containing the hardcover ships.

More details and sneak peeks of the new Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover will be revealed over the coming months on the Paizo blog.

Sweet! This will be a lot of fun to read!!

A couple observations:
The first bullet is missing a word. Perhaps the dungeon is populated by Grey Maidens?

Which of the characters will be getting Thrown in the "Updated illustrations of classic Curse of the Crimson Thrown characters?"

Definitely looking forward to this one.

Doh. Curse these robot hands! Will get that fixed in the morning. Thanks!

Okay dumb question. If I preorder now I don't actually get charged until it ships right?
Also is this going to be a paizo exclusive?

Correct, won't get charged until it ships.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

So much love for this adventure path. <3

Shouldn't it be Gray Maidens with an a?

Not a native speaker here, so I always get confused by that word anyway.

Oh, and by the way: Woooohooo!! Preordered!

Grey/Gray is a bit of contention in English speaking areas :3

So, unlike the RotRL Anniversary Edition this will be part of the AP Subscription?

Will the PDFs I own already be updated with the revised content, or will i need to re-buy the PDF of the 6-in-one new hardcover?

Yeah, good question. Kind of reads like its part of the normal sub. I expect the idea is if you order it, and you're a subscriber, then you'll get a free pdf. I'm going to hold off until it's clear.

It's the latter. It's not part of the AP subscription.

But if you do have a AP subscription and order it you'll get the free PDF as well as your subscription discount applied to the order.

I couldn't be more excited for this unless I was already holding the book in my hands. :-D

Not wishing to be the tedious grammar maven, but for those confused...

In English spoken in the British Isles (where I come from, and presumably Itchy too) grey is spelt "grey". In American English (and other versions, like Australian too, I believe) it is spelt "gray".

Anyway, interested to see this - I guess the threads on this had some effect.

Aargh! So cruel to tempt me with this...

Yes! Having adventures all across Golarion is cool but I've been wanting a return to Varisia. I hope this means that there will also be a Crimson Throne set for the Adventure Card Game some time in the future. So excited!

As someone currently running Book 1 of this, I can't wait for this to come out.

Why do you always make me wait for nice things...?
The waiting makes my frayed mind buckle.

Wtf.... I'm so upset about this.
I've been running CotCT for months now. We're at the final book. I've painstakingly converted the whole thing to Pathfinder while juggling school and work. And now they drop this. I mean yea, this is exciting but darn. I would have loved to know this was happening because I would have held off on running the campaign.

Updated the blog to fix typos and clarify the product's status a non-subscription product. Sorry for any confusion there! :)

If I've learned anything from following Wes Schneider on social media, it's that we Americans fought a war to be able to spell 'gray' with an 'a', and we should exercise that liberty at every opportunity out of a sense of patriotism. ;D

The Exchange

On the other hand, the Australians and Canadian spell it as "gray" too, and I don't recall a war with them.

And spelling is so boring when it goes phonetic (sorry - fonetic). Writing words differently to the way they are actually said is the sign of true civilisation (note - with an s, not a z).

I thought we fought to liberate the 'u' from armor and color?

Well, this is exciting, but I was hoping for Second Darkness. There has been talk by one of the developers about redoing parts of that book and re-releasing it.

No worries. Thanks for the clarification!

Amusingly, this highlights another difference between British and American English. In American English "spelt" is a grain, and the past tense of "spell" is exclusively "spelled". In British English, "spelled" and "spelt" are used interchangeably for that purpose.

And apparently, Google doesn't even recognize "spelt" as a word, since it keeps underlining it to tell me I spelled it wrong... ;-)

On the actual subject, I'm very much looking forward to a Crimson Throne hardback. It looks like a fun AP, and I've been too lazy thus far to convert it to Pathfinder rules so I can run it.

Silver Crusade

English tangent:
Huh, weird. I'm American and I've always seen it written as spelt=current conversation and spelled=past tense.

And I can tell anyone interested that Canadians will also spell the colour as "grey".

... Not to mention the Greyhound bus company ... which I believe is also active in the United States. Of course, it's been a while since I used one of their coaches. :)

Back on topic: +1 to looking forward to this hardcover updated compilation. Yessss.

Question,
If I pre-order as an AP subscriber now, will I still get the free pdf if I am no longer an AP subscriber at the date of release? I would like this book and the free pdf but I plan to cancel AP subscription after Hell's Vengeance wraps up.

No, you have to be a subscriber when the hardcover ships. I was planning on cancelling after Hell's Vengeance as well, but it looks like they hooked me through Strange Aeons, even though I have no interest in Lovecraftian stuff. ;)

Just wondering if anyone at Paizo can disclose if the mechanical side of the background traits changed at all?

I'm planning to run this for my group once it comes out and they're starting on character ideas now, however everyone is a little hesitant to make a choice on the campaign traits from the old players guide in case any big changes happened.
