Promo-Ho-Ho!

Friday, December 5, 2014

We interrupt this regularly scheduled weekly Pathfinder Battles preview to deliver on something I've been promising for a while. We've finally managed to sort a bunch of our unused promotional repaint figures from 2013 and 2014, and I wanted to share them with you as soon as I could! All six are currently available for ordering exclusively on paizo.com. Like previous promo figures, these will not last forever. I think they make great "stocking stuffer" gifts for fellow gamers, so I wanted to get them up in time for the holidays (and because people keep reminding me I've been promising to do so for ages). We'll pick up with the Iconic Heroes Set #1 in-hand photo previews next week. For now, let's look at what Santa has in store in the promo department!

The Bloodbriar Goblin Raider is a special promotional miniature designed to promote the Pathfinder Online game. As the Kickstarter for that project grew and grew, the originally planned single figure turned into a set of 10, and this figure was created all over again and included as part of the 10-figure sealed Emerald Spire Promo Set. That left us with the original run of the figure, which has since been distributed in limited quantities at regional conventions. This version of the Bloodbriar Goblin Raider is based on the same paint master as the figure in the Promo Set, but as it was produced in a different production run, there are slight differences in the paint application. The base is also different, featuring the GoblinWorks logo instead of the Emerald Spire set designation. The figure is a promotional repaint of the Goblin Commando on Mount figure from the Rise of the Runelords Pathfinder Battles set. The goblin is a Small figure on a Medium mount and base.

The Shadowfire Elemental is a promotional repaint of the Medium Fire Elemental figure from the Shattered Star set. It was originally produced in 2013 as a convention promo figure, but was incorporated into the 10-figure Emerald Spire Promo Set to support the Pathfinder Online Kickstarter effort. That left us with the original run of the figure, which has never before been distributed. This version of the Shadowfire Elemental is based on the same paint master as the figure in the Promo Set, but as it was produced in a different production run, there are slight differences in the paint application. The base is also different, featuring the Paizo logo and "2013" instead of the Emerald Spire set designation. Statistics for the Shadowfire Elemental template can be found on page 157 of the Emerald Spire Superdungeon. The Shadowfire Elemental is a Medium figure.

The Lava Lurker is a promotional repaint of the Medium Earth Elemental from the Shattered Star set. It was originally produced in 2013 as a convention promo figure, but was incorporated into the 10-figure Emerald Spire Promo Set to support the Pathfinder Online Kickstarter effort. That left us with the original run of the figure, which has never before been distributed. This version of the Lava Lurker is based on the same paint master as the figure in the Promo Set, but as it was produced in a different production run, there are slight differences in the paint application. The base is also different, featuring the Paizo logo and "2013" instead of the Emerald Spire set designation. Statistics for the Lava Lurker can be found on page 155 of the Emerald Spire Superdungeon. The Lava Lurker is a Medium figure.

The Hellfire Wisp is a variant promotional repaint of the Will-o'-Wisp figure from the Wrath of the Righteous set. It was originally given out in 2014 at the Origins Game Fair and Dragon Con, and has subsequently appeared at other regional events. It features the Paizo logo on the bottom of the base in the place of a regular set designation. The Hellfire Wisp is a Medium figure.

The Goblin Raider is a variant promotional repaint of the Goblin Pyro 2 figure from the Legends of Golarion set. It was originally given out as a sales incentive in 2014 at the Paizo Booth at Gen Con Indy. It features the Paizo logo on the bottom of the base in the place of a regular set designation. The Goblin Raider is a Small figure.

The Slaver Demon is a variant promotional repaint of the Horned Demon figure from the Wrath of the Righteous set. It was originally given out as a promotional "thank you" to participants in the Gen Con Special Pathfinder Society event at Gen Con Indy 2014. It features the Paizo logo on the bottom of its base. The Slaver Demon is a variant Kalavakus Demon, whose game statistics appear on page 78 of Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2. The figure is a Medium miniature.

And that's it for this week! I've got to go tend to some ornery reindeer up on the roof.

Cheers!

Cool!

The top 3 are listed as available. I ordered those three. The other three are listed as unavailable. Hopefully they'll become available soon.

Thanks!

Same here, first three down, rest to go. Just need the other emerald spire elementals to arrive as well. Love the slaver and hell wisp, great reprints.

When do we get an announcement on the next battles set? Want me some pathfinder gnolls...hint, hint

Well that was quick! Young Boromir is right, the last three miniatures you posted appear to be unavailable.

My miniatures discount doesn't appear to be registering for the first three in my cart. Is that because they are a promotional thing, or is it just a glitch?

The wisp goblin and slaver already sold out? Pretty disappointing! The post has been up 30 minutes and I do believe it was stated there would be a reasonable quantity for the web store.

Dark Archive

If my math is right the time between this post going up and the first person to post sold out was seven minutes. Really bummed!

Dang.

I don't think they've sold out, just haven't been put into the system for purchase yet. Same thing happened with the singles for list coast, a day or so later they all appeared available for sale. Mid wait a little bit and they should be available

Oh hey, totally forgot to release that binding spell. These miniatures are free to roam into your shopping cart now.

Yay! This is great news. I've already ordered a few. I was particularly glad to see the Kalavakus repaint; I've been seeing them show up for sale on Ebay for insane amounts, and this is a much better deal for a very cool mini.
Will the other promo minis from the Kickstarter ever get released for sale?

Dark Archive

Yay thank you Liz I just ordered mine will wait a day or two before I order a second of any to give everyone a chance at them.

Wow. I feel bad for the guy who paid $49.95 for the Slaver Demon on eBay three days ago.

Merry Christmas, buddy! :/

There is a reason my father told me to always be patient. Here is a great example of why my father was so wise. :-)

I think in Henry James' Portrait of a Lady one of his characters says something along the lines of "wealth is not required to be a collector, patience is." If you're willing to wait, just about everything rolls around eventually ;-)

When can we expect the reveal of the next battles set?

Immediately after a couple posts praising patience, this is amusing.

As soon as WizKids lets me. Quite soon, I think.

These repaints are great!!!

I understand the "Dungeons and Dragons: Icons of the Realms II" set - which is also produced by Whizkids/Neca will come out in March 2015, so i don´t think we will see another Pathfinder Battles set before june or july after the six "Iconic Heroes" sets have come out.

Therefore i understand the fact, that you have to show us the actual production run fotos (which are quite interesting) of later to pass the time.

As actual production run fotos of all 6 minis of Set 1 are already online on

http://www.pathfinderminis.com/gallery16.htm

and other sites, it would probably be best to show 2 out of the 6 minis from set 2 in addition to the in hand photos of the remaining 3. ;-)

I really am impressed with the detail of the new "Iconic Heroes" sets and will gladly buy one or two of each and i understand that some time has to pass before the title of the next set will be released.

But come early next year, i want some news regarding either HUGE minis or BOXED SETS, as the ones who came out before were mostly cool (Rise of the Runelords Huge Boosters and White Dragon Evolution) sometimes ok but not great (Red Dragon Evolution) and sometimes to obscure (Reign of Winter 2-pack)and i need more of them for my gaming table.

So i hope, that there will be another try in that direction, this time with minis who are a "must-buy" for everyone, so that wizkids sees there is a lucrative market for that.

Thank you for your engagement and happy holidays in advance! :-)

One small quality quibble; I got a Justice Ironbriar in hand today for the first time, and I was a bit disappointed with the painting on the face. I realize that as a Pathfinder elf, he's supposed to have bigger pupils than a human, but since there was no other paint at all marking out the eyes, just blobs of black, it made him look a little on the derpy side. Something to watch out for. (And it's possible I just was unlucky to get one that was painted with less skill than the average. I know from my own minis painting how hard eyes can be.)

Placed order for all but the two promo's that I currently have. Got 2 of the elementals and demon as they always travel in pairs :)

Will the gencon buttons crop up at some point?

The eyes of our elves are actually supposed to be all-black spheres. See this image for a good example.

Just got my minis in today. They look great...time to go GM something and put them to use.
